The player models are much more realistic, players show emotion, and pretty much everything has been given a facelift. The animation, framerate, textures - it’s all very impressive.
  2. The best [PS2 football game] of the bunch. With its responsive control, completely realistic graphics, and the best AI around, NFL 2K2 is the game football fans should own.
  3. I was surprised this game felt as different from 2K1 and CD's 2K2 as it did. [Jan 2002, p.80]
  4. The individual control of this game is unmatched. Player movement is lightning fast and incredibly responsive.
  5. NFL 2K2 scores a bullseye with a blazing framerate, a caffeinated pace and the dynamite control scheme NFL 2K games are famous for.

A rock-solid football simulation with more responsive and faster control...than Madden 2002...[but] while both titles are pretty equal in terms of gameplay...Madden is a much more polished product within its world.
  7. Whereas last year the controls seem looser than Madden’s, and therefore more intuitive and fun, this year they seem way too easy.
  8. The down side is that the commentary has seemed to change from endless conversation and good jokes to dry, corny play by play.
  9. The running back strength is excessive, and some of the secondary play is suspect. If these parameters were addressed, I'd probably switch allegiance yet one more time since the overall graphical and audio presentation of NFL 2K2 is the best around, and the tighter control makes for a fun play.
  10. On the PS2, 2K2 is a faster, more arcade-like experience than it was on the DC. [Jan 2002, p.216]
  11. If you’d rather play a fast and offensive football game over a slower more realistic one, NFL2K2 is for you. It’s the fastest and easiest to play of the big two. If not for the sloppy AI, it might actually be better than Madden.
  12. 80
The controls are tight, and the gameplay is on-target even if there’s a slightly frenetic, arcade, unMadden-like feel to player movement.
  13. While the options aren’t as extensive as those found in Madden, NFL 2K2 features the most complete presentation of any football game released to date.
  14. Falling short to a tighter, more polished "Madden." [Jan 2002, p.132]
  15. In terms of sheer pace, NFL 2k2 and Madden are truly apples and oranges when it comes to game speed. I frankly feel that NFL 2k2 plays too fast.

It really does not matter what difficult level you are playing on, because regardless you will find that you throw far too many interceptions and intercept too many yourself. I played several games where the total number of interceptions in the game was 10!

If Only the speed of this game could be matched with the depth and realism of Madden... Heaven!
