Imagine the visual pageantry of "Devil May Cry" populated with the characters of "Dead or Alive," applied to a Greco-Roman era action-adventure. [Dec 2002, p.58]

My brother got this for christmas a very long time ago.. The game is outstanding, absolutely great. I like the gameplay and the area's you discover, whats most fun is the puzzles you do. Some parts you will go into circles but if you watch carefully and concentrate enough then you will like it.
The game is a bit on the short side, true, but rarely does a game manage to capture the essence of the classics the way this does. The action is fast and furious, the graphics astounding, and the music incredible.
There are a variety of attacks and moves that can be mastered for the Diskarmor, but sadly you will often find yourself simply using the most straightforward attacks as they are not only the easiest to execute, but also are less likely to leave Rygar open for attack by any one for the handful of different enemies in the game.
The Rygar reboot for the PS2 is good fun. Unfortunately, it hasn't aged well. Movement is slow, combat is clunky and the fixed camera isn't too good. Also, the limited enemy types aren't very imaginative. This is an action-adventure in the tradition of Onimusha. Three years later, God of War put it to shame. Regardless, this game was terrific when it first released. I would rate it with an 8.1 out of 10.
The PS2 "Rygar" reboot is fun, but didn't age well. Combat is simple, movement is slow and the fixed camera angles hinder the action. Gameplay is like a cross between "Devil May Cry" and "God of War". Unfortunately, the enemies are limited to a few bland types. However, using the "diskarmor" is pretty cool. It's a multi-use weapon that can change form and combos on the fly. OveralI, I would rate this with a 7.7 out of 10.
Definitely a Devil May Cry sort of a clone. The diskarmor mechanics are strange and not as intuitive as I'd like, what with the combos and upgrades.
The graphics and level design are great and spooky, and they take me back to Shadow of the Colossus, but the dialogue and cut-scenes are pretty terrible. Rygar's speech is the worst.
This is the best rating I'd give for a game I don't have interest in playing for very long. Doesn't mean it won't work for the console action gamer, especially if you like DMC or similar games.
