I see the critic's have finally caught up to speed on how great this game is. When I first checked the page for reviews I think they had it scored in the low 60's still with just a piddling of reviews, mostly bad. These early-birds must have played a pre-release date version of the game without all the kinks ironed out because I tell you this: Scarface is a blast. Sick of playing some cookie-cutter thug in the GTA games, with no identity or distinguishing personality to speak of? Well, fret no more. Here's your chance to actually become Tony Montana and work towards a goal of rebuilding your own empire rather than constantly running missions for some mob boss, politician, crooked cop or any other number of people looking to take money out of your hard-earned mission winnings. In Scarface, every red dollar you make goes into your pocket and goes towards your cause of trying to revive the glory days of your ginormous drug empire. This is one of the most satisfying parts of the game because each time you risk your ass in one of these missions, you're not just doing it to merely earn the 'respect' of your peers as in GTA: SA, you're doing it to put money in your pocket, yayo up your nose and a fine honey in each fist. The game's soundtrack is very faithful to the movie, offering tons of real tracks from back in 70's and 80's but also contains many more songs from dates ranging from the 50's straight through to this day and age of the new millenium. Shooting in this game also puts GTA to shame, taking only the best elements of that game's targeting system and perfecting it by adding in the much more agreeable free aim form of the Godfather game. Not to mention being able to target various parts of your enemies bodies for extra points. Kidney shots are definitely key. All in all, this game is a definite winner. From the moment you slide the disc into your console and watch the opening movie with scenes straight from the movie classic, you will immediately be immersed in Tony Montana's world. There's nothing like running around a free-for-all Miami as Al Pacino's most notorious character, knocking down anyone that dares stand in your way and macking on the females that saturate the beach paradise environment. No more will you be a slave to running missions for the benefit of your superiors. In Scarface, the only person that matters is you and your quest to regain everything that's coming to you: the world, Chico, and everything in it. Expand

Scarface survives to come back and rebuild his empire, bit by bit, by stealing back what was stolen from him by the developers of GTA Vice City. All in all, a worthy purchase if you've never played any GTA games. If you have, however, you may be disappointed. On the positive, Scarface improves and tweaks a lot of the GTA game mechanics. Long drug runs are fun and challenging. Calling up your car is a novelty. Distributions runs mean you have to balance cash spent on security with that spend on wiping out gangs. Buying exotics is new. Managing you gang heat and cop heat is another interesting twist. Profanity laden conversations with civilians are well done, and the golf swing meter for conversations is interesting for a while. The bank is a welcome feature. Hunting down the location of gangs is also well done. The story line is incredibly open as well, as unlike GTA there is a looser narrative and more focus on sandbox play. However it falls short in other ways. There are no motorcycles, and the weird law enforcement system means no rampages or seiges with the police. There's no ability to do insane stunts ala GTA, and Scarface can't even jump or climb (although he can swim!). The lock on system is useful but a bit tricky, and the game has its fair share of glitches. Some of the missions are a bit samey after a while too. All round still a lot of fun, and quite a challenge as your empire expands. Expand

The game is better than I expected. Combat is fun, driving is a little too arcade for me but it doesn't piss me off. The character of Tony Montana is great and the dialogue is f***ing funny. I just figured out how to lip off people on the street if they disrespect me and earn some balls back. I dunno, I've been playing the game all week and I'm pretty far into it now but I still find it fun. Expand

This game is great, definately better than The Godfather, True Crime LA, and True Crime NYC -- And if I dare say, better than GTA 3 in the way that though GTA 3 revolutionised sandbox games Scarface improved upon this (I mean, it's been 5 years since GTA 3). I don't know how PSM, Play Magazine, Gamespot and some others gave it such low scores. That's pathetic. A 5/10 is a crap game, not even decent, something like Aeon Flux or Catwoman or simply a bad game. Scarface is quality. The balls meter is great and works effectively, the graphics though not the best -- Tony Montana has never looked better. Audio/Sound is top notch, Montana's voice-over sounds exactly like Pacino. People who complain about the game's vulgar language and content has probably never watched the movie. It's how it's meant to be, Tony Montana baby! And by the way, a note to Metacritic.com -- The average of all these 22 reviews is 78.36 (rounded to 78) and not 75/100. Please update it if possible, thanks ! Expand

Great game that doesn't just put you in an open world for the sake of having one. You actually have to think while playing to balance your cop, gang heat as well as many other things on your way to being #1 again and taking out Sosa. Too many cool things to say about this game. Yes it's actually a game not a crappy roam around the world game for no reason. Also it looks awesome.

I rented it at the same time as Bully, so my view my be skewed,, but I didn't play very far, as the game seemed fairly tedious with the load screens, cut scenes and general gameplay. Sure, the graphics are better than Vice City (if you wanted more detailed posteriors, for example), but Scarface is generally void of VC's cutting humor and engaging gameplay. Yes, it's violent and sure, you get to hear a lot of cursing in a cheesy Cuban accent, but in the end, I shut it off because it simply wan't that much fun. Expand

This game is awesome. everything about is screams "GTA with polish". all the mechanics in this game flow seemlessly well, the fighting, driving, shooting and even the mini-games involved when selling llello to a hippie on the corner, all work well. This game gives you that feeling of being immersed as tony montana, while you rebuild your empire and eventually OWN the whole of Miami. It39;s an experience no one who watched the movie should pass. Pick it up! Expand

Stay away from this game for now. The PC version is unplayable as it is now. The frame rate is very poor even if you have a very fast system with a good video card. You can’t redefine the keyboard to your liking, very poor game controller support… just to name a few. Wait for Vivendi Universal Game to release a patch before you buy this game. And make sure that the patch addresses these issues because the last one they released (v1.2) did not correct any one of these problems. As it is now the game should be rename ScarFARCE: The World Is Dysfunctional Expand

Scarface: The World is Yours picks right up from where the movie ended. Like The Godfather: The Game, Scarface let's you control the actions of the man you are playing (In this case, Scarface). The buildings and even Tony's mansion are exactly portrayed as they were in the movie. I recommend this game to anyone who played The Godfather!!

I found the game annoying to play. Missions were annoying especially when it tells you to do two different things at one time. "Lose the cops" "protect so and so" flee the cops fail the mission protect the person you risk getting screwed by the cops. Lost a few good lump sums of money and drugs because the game messed up. Driving and targeting is great but I rarely play the game now because the programming sucks. Expand

  1. Say hello to our little friend, great disappointment. [Oct. 2006, p.60]
  2. The game just fails in so many areas. [Nov. 2006, p.82]
  3. It's every bit as profane, violent, and over-the-top as the movie, and delivers not only the gunplay you're expecting, but as much depth as almost any other game in the genre. Like the film that inspired it, it's sometimes a bit clunky, but makes up for it in bravado and style.
