I narrowly recommend it for series die-hard, unless it keeps you from buying "Rush", in which case you should opt for your DS all the way. [Dec 2005, p.58]
This premise would still be stupid even if Shadow didn't suffer from slowdown issues, a nonexistent lock-on system, a horrible camera, and bottomless pits in which to fall. But it does, and it is stupid--just like this is a stupid way to spend 50 bucks.
Clearly none of you have taste. This is the greatest video game ever made. I wouldn't say it's the pinnacle of media as I have reserved that place for some other things, but definitely the pinnacle of gaming. Shadow the Hedgehog was already this badass character we all needed in our lives. Then Sega released this masterpiece. There is an insane amount of replayability. 100% completing this game would take forever. That's a good thing. On top of that, this game has those beautiful, shiny PS2 era graphics. Then there's the industrial inspired soundtrack including the PEAK that is I am all of me.
Also, best of all, guns. I **** love guns. Guns are so cool. I love edginess. Heh.
Combine the relatively poor visuals with monotonous level designs, and you'll find yourself in the middle of a level with no real visual cues of where you are within the level.
Regular game, much "edgyer" for a sonic game, bad camera and regular levels but its a It is quite enjoyable if you know how to enjoy it, its strongest points are probably its ost (crush 40 and all the other composers and sega bands never disappoint in this regard) and its story which bathes in the character of shadow to express his past and how his view of his past is changing, this is not counting the fact that he has many alternative endings, maybe if they had polished more things or removed a little "edgy" things it would be a much better game and thus be much more appreciated
La verdad es que el juego no era tan malo. Buen diseño de niveles y bastantes finales, según creo recordar. Posiblemente en realidad fuese una mierda, pero es una mierda que me gustó mucho.
It's not as bad as people make it out to be. But I would seriously consider smashing my monitor if I have to play through Westopolis again. Also, **** the perfect chaos in one of the hero missions and **** the computer room.
I think the large part of the problem with Shadow's character is just Sega not knowing what to do with him after Sonic Adventure 2. His whole arc is basically finished in SA2, and to make a whole game where he kinda backtracks to figure out what his life means kinda ruins the whole point of his character. Never mind the guns and heavy edgey-ness Shadow The Hedgehog presents; the whole narrative was just kinda doomed from the start.
By no means would I ever consider Shadow The Hedgehog to be a good game, as the basic core of the mechanics of the usual 3D Sonic games, which are already polarizing to began with, are muddled to hell with the new gun mechanics. Not that the idea **** mechanic is already farfetched to began with, but if you're going to do it, they should have at least make it properly function. For the most part, guns aren't even a good weapon to use compared to most melee weapons or even just Shadow using his homing attacks. While there are also a fair amount of vehicles to use too, they are often far to fragile or used far to little to leave an impact to even the likes of Sonic '06's use of them.
Then we also have the level path splits, and really it's just a mess of busy work of what is really just 9 different endings. For the most part, I just did whatever was easier as the majority of light and dark missions require you to kill/find certain items/enemies/allies that just take far too much of your time. Sonic games aren't know for their exploration for a good reason because exploring and going fast do not mix well. So why they decided that 2/3 of the missions would be exactly that is not just baffling, it's initially sinking an already sunk ship.
Really the idea of finding out Shadow's origins or purpose in life is interesting because Shadow, despite internet perception, is a complex character. I think a lot of the morality and grit that Shadow's no nonsense attitude makes would have actually provided with some really interesting takes to Sonic's universe. Not to mention, that dark and gritty stories are kinda the comic's bread and butter into making some really interesting stories. Sadly, this is just not what we got. Instead we got Shadow The Hedgehog, a mess ****, messing up one of the best characters in the Sonic series that still suffers from internet perception to this day due to the ridiculous mishandling of his character here. Really, in the end, that's why I hate Shadow The Hedgehog all the more because it robbed us of a lot of the drama that the adventure games gave us, and honestly it's just a really bad game.
