  • Summary: New fast-paced gameplay takes the classic Shining Force franchise in a bold new direction. Shining Force Neo is an Action RPG featuring a dramatic, character-driven story and a high gloss anime aesthetic. Real-time combat creates a deeper sense of personal involvement in battles, and the presence of more than 90 enemies on screen at once ratchets up the grand scale that the Shining Force games are known for. It's great fun, a fantastic example of substance and style, and provides depth at nearly every turn. What better way to combat the armies of darkness?
  2. In the end, Neo contains all of the Shining that gamers are looking for, but none of the Force.
  3. A throwback to old-school hack-and-slash games which incorporates some new elements that keeps it fresh and fun. Although the graphics, audio, and storyline certainly will not set the gaming world ablaze, the solid game mechanics should offer plenty of enjoyment for players.
  4. The key to a game like this is to make combat feel really good, which is something Shining Force Neo does a lot better than those middling Champions of Norrath games. When you swing your sword, it feels like it has impact, even if you're only hitting a barrel.
  5. If you're a fan of hack-n-slash button-mashing in your RPGs, Shining Force Neo offers a load of challenge and a long campaign.

Shining Force Neo does its job, but it’s a bit too tough considering that you pretty much have to wait for your character to get stronger rather than improving it on your own.
  7. To be presented with this utterly misguided and ill-conceived attempt to reinvent one of the best strategy-RPG series of the last two decades seems criminal and unfair. It’s a mammoth level grind, bringing together some of the action-RPG genre’s very worst conventions while leaving out some of the best.

Shining Force is not perfect in technique, but certainly brings numerous enjoyable hours of pure fun.

An excellent sequel to one of my all time series. I was skeptical about the whole real time aspect, but Sega pulled it off quite nicely. I highly recommend Neo for anyone who loved the first two, or those looking for a new Action-RPG. Expand

This game seriously dissapoints me. I was hoping that it would be like the best shining force games, 1 and 2. But it changed for the worst.

Once again, Shining Force has become one of the worst games in the genre that is the RPG. And once again, Sega has proven to me that it is the worst videogame company. If you have already picked this up and want to get rid of its horrible taste, I suggest much better action RPGs like the Dark Cloud and Kingdom Hearts series. Collapse

this game is evil and evil to its rotten core . if you have played shining force 1 , 2 , 3 , and cd you know why. it dumps the turned based stratagy for craptacular hack and slash . so its no longer a SRPG but a hack n Slash RPG that is dull on all fronts . this game was made during sega's dark years of making nothing but rancid games and i should have expected this but my love for the old shining force games made me wana believe this was gona be every bit or even some what close to as great as thoose classic games where . alas it hurt to see one of my favorite series puked all over such as this.
