  1. Though there are a number of hidden characters you can unlock, Racer Revenge is ultimately a short-lived experience that will keep you entertained, but only for the first few times you blast through its courses.
  2. It doesn’t break any new ground. I don’t care if the heads-up display tells me I’m going 600 mph, the sensation of speed isn’t any greater than in Mario Cart.
  3. Where Revenge drops the ball somewhat is in the surprising lack of stuff to do or find once all the racing circuits and characters have been unlocked.

Racer Revenge looks more like a first-generation PS2 game, complete with draw-in and bland environments. The sounds can be just as dull.

It could have been a lot better, though, if the courses were more varied and the challenge level higher. [Apr 2002]

The sense of speed – especially with a built-up racer – is amazing, but it comes at a price: boring, repetitive textures. [Apr 2002, p.139]
  7. It's still a great weekend rental, but even the Jawas wouldn't be able to do much with it when you're through.

If Rainbow would have made it competitive, I would have loved it, but without challenge, there really is no reason to continue playing. [Apr 2002, p.75]
  9. If Racer Revenge wasn't a Star Wars game, such a generic little arcade-racer wouldn't even be worth mentioning.
  10. To say you need quick reflexes to survive this would be an understatement—it’s almost like you need to use a mystical, ambivalent power to help guide you through it. Sort of like the movie.

Racer Revenge isn't a bad game in terms of action when you're out there mid-gameplay, but it does nothing to add to the fun we had with Episode I Racer.
  12. Racer Revenge's staying power is virtually nonexistent.
  13. Star Wars Racer Revenge took an excellent control scheme and a promising career mode and sucked all the life out of it.
  14. A disappointment because it feels short. The computer opponents are ultimately not up to the competition, and there is no adjustable difficulty setting to level the playfield.

This game is just so horrifically bad that I cannot recommend it to anyone without feeling guilty inside.

This sequel admittedly doesn't do too much different outside of giving gamers more content and having a new emphasis on vehicular combat (you can now K.O. you opponents by destroying their podracer), but it's hard to complain when the racing is this good.

Excellent track design and a nice selection of racers are sure to keep you coming back to tackle all of the game's challenges. Setting best times, completing tournaments with different characters, and even (locally) duking it out with a buddy are all distraction the game has to offer. While perhaps not having the most robust selection of modes, the game manages to keep you hooked thanks to just the all around solid gameplay. Plus, it's Star Wars. So that helps.

Really the biggest issue the game has is that it doesn't always offer the best challenge. Most races will fly by without giving you a fight. I found that only some of the later races in the tournament mode actually made me worry, outside of one map that was actually downright brutal.

Yet, even if it won't always test you in the traditional races, objectives like setting records are sure to give you a challenge if you need one. It's minor flaws don't detract from the fact that is an excellent racing game. One that makes great use of an exciting concept from the Star Wars universe. Any fan should check it out, be they fans of racing or the films.

Too easy, but addictive and fun. Absolutely a great racing game with many players, many tracks, and just plain great.
