Expected much more than I got. It really is unfortunate that they'd incorporate such a bad ending in an attempt to milk the series in the future. Don't expect anything groundbreaking.

I liked brotherhood and number one, but jeese this is ridiculous. Its technically horrible and honestly probably the least interesting. I am finding everything frustrating, multiplayer is good though and probably the best part of this one in opposition to brotherhood. A horrible thing is the missions baby step you until a certain point then pull of the training wheels so quickly you have no idea what you are doing. Mechanics with this series have been a terrible problem but in this game they are to heavy to ignore. Expand

Normally love the Creed... but really didn't like this game at all. It has so many bugs, online servers offline a lot. forgettable boring characters and the story means nothing to me as an international player. The game keeps talking about people like i should know who they are... game tries and fails to rip off Red Dead Redemption. Americans might get something out of this...

Hey, what is it with everyone??? This is BY FAR the best AC game and I've played all of them at least twice. I'm really having a very hard time here trying to understand why anyone would give this game a negative review... The story is magnificently compelling, the graphics and the engine, seasons and all that stuff is mind-blowing and the character is an all-new, very different and interesting and fun character. I finished the game two hours ago and I still have stuff to do enough to make an entire game out of... This is superb AC experience... Yeah, there are an unusual amount of glitches and bugs which aren't as important as some people think. Besides, it caught my eye that these bugs lessen when you progress. Anyway, this is a magnificent game which is, in my opinion, Ubisoft's geatest work. Finally, the ending still left a lot of questions and also many new ones, regarding the outcome of the game's events. I think we're definitely going to be seeing a lot of AC still and most likely connected to this ending. Expand

Assassin's creed III is both a success and disappointment in my eyes. The beautifully realised colonial America is a true highlight. The vast array of side missions gives the impression of a real and inhabited world that the player can explore. Great aspects for me were the frontier man missions, which send Connor searching for evidence to prove or dismiss the existence of myths and tall tales. The naval missions blew me away, even when i was sailing on cool calm waters. The homestead missions are great, i felt myself growing attached to the various characters moving in on my land and enjoyed helping them out. However on the other end of the scale glitches, frequent loading screens and unrefined controls can really get on your nerves. It really feels like they should have spent that little bit more polishing the game up in these aspects. It really would have made all the difference. All in all a great game, just not quite up to the standard i was expecting from a game of this calibre. Expand

    Great game, BUT.....
First of all the game have some fantastic scenarios and the fact that you can climb trees, hunt beers and what have you, is very entertaining.
The rest of the game is as you would expect from Ubi-soft, except for all the bugs and there's A LOT of bugs.
I thought AC:R was bad but this takes the ticket.
First of all the mouth of the people in the cutscenes in the beg
inning of the game wasn't even moving. The horses looks horrible compared to earlier games and they move in mysterious ways.
This might seem like small things but it's just so.....1995, and it ticks me off, hence dragging the whole experience down.
With that said, it is AC after all, and it does give me the AC feeling, the AC challenges and the AC experience, so I will go for the platinum even for this game, I just think Ubi-soft would be better off if they had held for a couple of months more.

Such a beautiful game, but it does have its flaws. The game is pretty glitchy, characters go missing while in conversation sometimes, while running the character attends to freak out, on occasions, the character attends to glide for some reason, and other minor ones. The environments is gorgeous, to the city of Boston to the deep wilderness of the Frontier. Gameplay and multiplayer is really fun. But the biggest problem of the game is the ending. Its very unsatisfying. The story is good until you reach the ending. You will probably spend about 10-12 hours on the game, if you just do main missions. Expand

I used to be one of those people who used the Metacritic site to find out whether I should consider buying a game or not. But it seems that's not reliable at all anymore, and the site's been overrun by trolls. Sure, the game has some strange bugs and glitches (like Achilles multiplying in his house, and me walking into the room finding about 30 Achilleses saying hello (or whatever he says) in union, or commands suddenly not working, making it impossible to get the kill unless you reload to the last checkpoint, or riding on horseback till your horse gets stuck forcing you to abandon it), but I still really enjoy this game. There are open areas to explore, and hunt in, there are missions at sea where you have to commandeer a ship, there's a decent amount of sidequests in comparison to the length of the main storyline, the "special" climbing Ezio did in AC2 (he had to learn it from that thief-chick) is in this game aswell, but he does it automatically now, riding through town on horseback knocking people down is now their fault being in the way of the horse, running into people doesn't make you fall over all annoyingly like it did in 2, and the game just looks as awesome as always, so all in all, fun ! If I were to name a downside.it's too bad the maps aren't a bit bigger, especially the Frontier area. Expand

The first couple of quests at the start where you play Naytham or whatever were so boring and dull I almost sold the game back right away. Then I pushed ahead to where you become rukhanheketon or whatever his name is and the game became bearable for a while longer. After about 10 or so hours I stopped all sidequests and just grinded thru the main story so I wouldn't feel bad for selling it without finishing it. Expand

This title is my Game of the Year. While a few bugs do exist, they were expected knowing that this is a brand new engine. However, none of the glitches are "game-breaking" which is definitely good news. Quite frankly, there is so much to do with this title, it's bound to keep you busy for weeks, if not months. Graphics are gorgeous. Controls work well. And running around in Revolutionary America is a whole lot of fun. You cannot go wrong with this game. Expand

Game is okay. The story is the only thing saving it at this point. Don't be surprised when glitches occur often and you are able to kill a group of 30 enemies by yourself with ease.

i really wanted to like this game. i liked the ones that came before and was hoping it would at least come close. but really, the glitches, bugs and AI are a total PITA. riding a horse on top of a house is funny the first time but it gets old fast. in fact, riding a horse in general gets old fast. you're walking around incongnito and get ambushed by 30+ guards but later on you practically jump a guard and they barely notice. wha? and what's with the screwy controls? why make 4 games the same and change the last one when your audience is most likely going to be made up of the ones that liked the first few games? and by "change" i mean "make totally sucky". the main missions are pretty linear and boring and don't leave much for the player to think about. the menus are a labyrinth to navigate, and that's not a compliment. accessing the map alone is a drag. and why are there more cutscenes than gameplay? at least that's how it feels most of the time. and how boring and pointless were the guild/trading elements? it seems to me that ubisoft just tried to cram in too much into one game, not really developing anything except for the scenery, which is the only reason it got any points at all. in a nutshell: a pretty, but boring and frustrating game. Assassins Creed III could have been great but the controls and bugs are so horrible that the game quickly becomes a trial with almost each mission. You'll find yourself yelling out loud at the developers, "WTF! Really!!?? A real controller buster.
Geez. Everything else was done so friggin well but good lord, ubisoft, invest a little more time in testing. It's a shame. If not for my horse
getting hung up on tiny rocks in the middle of chases, Conner getting hung up or simply performing WTF actions(to numerous to specify) on just about any random thing, I would have given it a 9. Damn! There's so much good stuff here but the control issues just ruin it.

This game was a MAJOR disappointment. The characters are bland in my opinion, and you can't go into the major battles like in the trailers. You have to stay on a scripted path, and if you go off the path, you die. What happened Ubisoft?

I really enjoyed the game play, it was different to other Assassin's Creed games. It was the first game to include hunting and I found myself hunting for hours. I felt like towards the end, the storyline was a little bit rushed, I also feel that at the beginning it was really slow and you had to get to sequence 6 to really find yourself enjoying the game. I feel like the combat was made too easy, all you had to do is press O and you would kill enemies, you didn't even have to face them while pressing O.
The main reason I gave this game a 6/10 rating is because of the ending, I felt like I had wasted hours upon hours playing this Assassin's creed game and the previous Assassin's creed games for nothing. I was left disappointed because you were given options and you didn't even decide which option to pick. I would NOT recommend this game to people who really like the storyline of Desmond, but if you are more about the assassins and could careless what happens to Desmond ,than I would recommend this but even if you don't like the Desmond storyline (I'm more about the assassins), you will still be left disappointed.

I really don't recommend buying this game full price, maybe buying cheaper, but for $ 60,00, it isn't worth this price. The game is unfinished, they wasted too much time on the engine and graphics, so there wasn't money and time left for adding, you know? Gameplay. The missions are linear, scripted, short, and unchallenging, even Assassins creed I is better than this game and I hated Assassins Creed I. The side activities are pointless, I got bored very quickly when I discovered that most side missions required of me to watch two or more loading screens, walk half the map to just beat a random dude or to do a simple fetch quest to some generic NPC. The game is just a big interactive movie, the story is decent, but is no way as good as assssin's creed II . I really don't understand, why Ubisoft want to turn all their games into interactive movies. Do you like interactive movies? Buy Walking dead instead (the story is way better and its cheaper too). Do you like open world games? Better games for you: Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, Read Dead Redemption. Do you really want to buy an assassins creed game? Buy assassins creed II (it's still a game an not an interactive movie, will not bore you to death with endless cutscenes, the story is way better). Really want to buy this game? Better buy used or wait for the price to drop. If you buy this game for $ 60,00, you are just wasting your money and if this game sales are good, I fear for the future of the franchise. Expand

Well I just beat AC3 and I'm here to write my review about it. Lets start off by naming some good things about this game. The Story is great! It does get a bit confusing with all the names and people that you know and sometimes it feels like I really didn't know why I was doing what it was I was doing. Overall I will give the story 8 out of 10. The graphics are the best in the Assassin's Creed series. It does have it'ts downfalls which we will get to later. Graphics get a 9 out of 10. Controls in AC3 are a bit....odd. I never got used to Triangle being the fire button for guns. It doesn't make any sense to me at all. Running is a bit clunky because when you are sprinting full speed you tend to run up something that you really don't want to run up causing you to jump around like an idiot. Controls get a 7 out of 10. Now this game as many downfalls. Lets get to the BIGGEST one I found. First I'd like to say that I don't like side missions in AC. I don't do them and never will. When I play AC I want the main story and that is it. The setting for AC3 is HUGE. That is it's biggest down fall. When I finish one main mission in Boston it sends me to New York. Doesn't sound bad right? I mean theres fast travel in this game so how long can it take? Well heres thing. To get to boston to New York you must first: Fast travel to the frontier, but this doesn't take you to the frontier. no it takes you to the beginning of Boston, then you must turn around and it will ask if you want to Fast Travel to the frontier then you say yes and it takes you to the frontier, THEN you open your map and fast travel to New York, buuuuuuut, It takes you to right before New York and then ask if u want to Fast Travel to New York. Then after about 3 minutes of doing that you must run (literally) 500m to the next main mission. THATS BULL **** why can't I just fast travel to NEW YORK!? This isn't the only time either it happens more then once. One time i had to run 1235m on horse just to get to the next mission. NO UBISOFT JUST NO. Most of the game is cut scenes. In fact this is the game in a nutshell; running, watching a cut scene, loading, watching another cut scene, run some more, kill 1 person, watch another cut scene, turn off game, sell game to GameStop, play Dishonored. Overall if you like a good story AC3 is perfect for you. Just bear in mind you will have a lot of running and load screens in between the main story. Expand

Underwhelming. My favorite AC was Brotherhood since we got a fully skilled Ezio and a group of assassins to train and command. Revelations was more of the same and it was quite fun, but not the breakthrough that I though Brotherhood was. This game was supposed to be the best of all worlds, apparently taking the longest of all of the AC games to create, but ends up less fun than all of the previous games. The main character and story were pretty boring and you only get to train 6 assassins. And you only get to use the assassins while in a city, which is only for about a third of the game. And it takes most of the game to even recruit all of the assassins, so really you only have all 6 assassins for 10 minutes of the game. And you don't even get to induct them into your secret society because the main character is pretty much a phony who doesn't even know why or if he's even really an assassin. Which kind of makes me not know why I'm even playing the game. Expand

Ouch. Another sequel to a fantastic top-shelf series that fails miserably to live up to its predecessors. The game is mindblowingly boring when it's not infuriatingly annoying. Character motivations are unclear, the story is trite, gameplay feels like taking care of chores in between drawn out cutscenes. Technically, there are quite a few bugs and glitches (I kept repeating one sequence for an hour due to getting stuck on varying bits of geometry), and the story is horribly lacking in suspense or wit compared to the other games in the series. Just like Mass Effect 3, a good game to stay away from, sadly. Also, the first time I've known Ubisoft to utterly fail. Wonder what happened there. Expand

I have to say, I was rather impressed with this game. After the inherent failure that was Revelations, Ubisoft made an ambitious but risky leap into a whole new world with Connor and the American Revolution. The story crafted around this period is a little less exciting the fighting the Pope under the Vatican, but it does present opportunities to take part in events and meet characters that no other game does. The plot itself is a little shaky, with various holes in the storytelling, however it still has the intricate Ubisoft feel and is told magnificently throughout the game, and yet again leaves us with many questions at the end of the game. The game-play itself has changed, in some ways for the worst and in some ways for the better. The game is more fluid and has a better constructed combat than before, but the linear missions take away the freedom we had in previous Assassin's Creed titles, which is disappointing. The expansive world created for the game is not only breathtaking but alive as well, which means there will always be more to do, and the side missions have gotten even better. The game is plagued by several irritating bugs, which can get in the way of game-play experience, but hopefully future patches will correct this. To conclude, both Assassin's Creed and non-Assassin's Creed fans will love this game, but it is not the 'next-gen' title Ubisoft hyped it up to be. Expand

In Assasin's Creed III, you are someone who looks lile a drug dealer with something to hide. Despite that, you seem to be in the past as everyone looks like they're in the 1700s, except for you, of course. The gameplay is ridiculously boring and I claim this as the most overrated game of 2012.

First I'd like to say that I enjoyed playing this game. But it was not quite what I had expected. The game is fun, sure, but it has the same flaw most games nowadays have: repetativity. There are some new features, building your village and hunting, but that's it. Like every AC, I really enjoyed it, but it just missed something that would make me Ooh and Aah!. Last negative point; the story doesn't interact too well with the open world. If two enemy's from the storyline walk past eachother out of a mission, the don't do anything. Also, the guys you help in the story will arrest you as quickly as your enemy out of a mission. Multiplayer is fun, but nothing new. I'd buy this game if you had a good time with other AC's, you'll enjoy playing this one. But don't expect anything overwhelming. Expand

I have revised. As the game progresses becomes increasingly good. The only hero I do not like it, but otherwise perfect. also the best of the new things in the game, the community, to become bigger and bigger. The best of the AC. If you exclude the hero and the era of the game.! As for the long haul. there are icons for fast travel. And i forget the great hunting, and epic naval battles

What an amazing game. First thing I must compliment is the open world environment. It was so big so beautiful and so believable that it puts Skyrim to shame. I love the new combat mechanics it did take a little while to get used to the new button layout but once I did the redcoats never stood a chance. First things first, I friggin' loved this game, the gameplay feels familiar but also new and fresh and also insanely fun throughout. Visually, it looks great, from trailers and stuff I thought I was looking to be disappointed but now, the world and everything looks beautiful considering that the world is pretty huge and that I played it on Ps3, I'm betting you're getting quite the eye candy when the PC version rolls along.. So, gameplay, visuals and sound, all great, but what can I say about the story without using any spoilers? Well, if the story would have finished up nicely it would have been a solid 9 or even a 10, but now I have to give this game a 8/10, barely... The story is actually not bad, but towards the end it feels pretty rushed and it doesn't offer a satisfying conclusion for Desmond IMO, one would have expected something more than a cliffhanger as the ending to Desmond's AC trilogy, but it's clear that Ubisoft intends to push this franchise forward for a long time. To say the least, I was disappointed, sure it could've been worse but it could've been a lot better. I also didn't think Connor's story was that necessary, sure they do offer a reason why we play him but for me they could've focused all their energy on Desmond. Just didn't feel that balanced with two characters with such major roles. Still, as a finishing statement I do wish to say that AC3 is one of the strongest titles to be released this year, the gameplay and the tons of content (side missions/activities) kinda do make up for a lacking conclusion, so I can easily recommend this game to everyone. Even the ones bored about when Revelations came should be able to find value in this game. Expand

I love the Assassin's Creed series. Although Brotherhood and Revelations were simply rehashes, I enjoyed playing it but AC3 was a disappointment, even when I didn't expect much. I really didn't like the idea of jumping to the 18th century but that wasn't the main problem. I spend half the game walking around pointlessly by foot or horse in a arduous journey to reach my objective. The combat system is annoying and a big let down. If anymore games AC games release that follows AC3, I will definitely not buy it. Expand

Much like The Dark Knight Rises film, I really wanted to love this game, it had the hype, the marketing and the media frenzy surrounding it to be epic on every scale. I would consider myself a hardcore AC fan, after the disappointing Revelations, I was still optimistic that Ubisoft would pull back with a superior and brilliant title to the other four entries in the franchise, brilliant?Yes, superior? No, not quite.
There was concern way back early last year when Ubisoft announced AC III, a brand new era, location, protagonist, and much larger in size to the rest, many had grown to Ezio, Italy, and the vibrant Italian cites during the Renaissance. But I for one was excited by the prospect of the Frontier, sprawling countryside, snow, trees, the lot.
Without giving away too much, our new protagonist, Native American/British Conor Kenway, doesn't fully 'suit up' until the fifth sequence in the game.
The story, while attempting to place our new Assassin into the historical events which led to the Revolution of the United States, feels rushed and sometimes empty compared to AC II, the characters are forgetful and bland, and I think Ubisoft may have tried just too hard to place Conor at the centre of EVERYTHING.
Without delving too much into Desmond's story, some may have seen his finale as quite useless, but I for one am glad that closure was finally brought to his chapter, leaving room for a new idea.
This game did simply just feel incomplete.
But the reason it still has a high score is because it still has an excellent backstory, the combat is simplfied again but equally as excellent, the vast array of miscellaneous tasks here are brilliant, whether you're going to loot a convoy, build a homestead, or just plain old assassinations, there is plenty to do here in New York, Boston and the Frontier. Connor feels very assassin like, he's hell bent on revenge and has no problem being alone throughout his story.
The graphics are good, but not great, the game just couldn't capture the beauty of Red Dead Redemptions sprawling countryside. I found the frontier particularly annoying, the distant hills looked extremely cartoon-like, the game was also, at several times, glitchy to the point of many items not appearing and sound being out of synch with the person speaking during cutscenses. It also still bothers me that there is still loading times between cities/countryside, get used to seeing Conor in a bright white loading screen, you're going to see plenty of it.
It was obviously great to see another instalment this past year, but the changes simply aren't enough to justify an annual title, the improvements are there but more needs to be done to break the mould and to put up with AC II as being a breakthrough game of the generation.

I remember when i bought Assassin's Creed, it felt so different than an average game back then was.You could climb on rooftops in cool fashion, explore the lands of the Crusades or just kill guards in in a way that made you="OHHH! EWWW! WOW!" it was not a perfect game but it was very entertaining. Then it was time for Assassin's Creed 2, and oh my it was fabulous! it fixed most of the problems in AC1 and the setting was really interesting, The Renaissance...Beautiful architecture, interesting characters and this time actually fun side missions!
Let's get to the point already, Assassins Creed 3 has been out now for months and after playing it for 51 hours and 23 minutes i can safely say my opinion about it... You all know the setting already in this game which is the American revolutionary war....Which is not that interesting.... It was the first let down for me, Boston and New York are not just really beautiful places unlike Florence and Rome were in the previous games, the buildings are not very tall and it makes climbing really boring when there's like 100 houses after another which look exactly the same.... well i wish you luck staying on rooftops because of the guards on the rooftops... i mean WHY is there so many of them???! You are destroying the element that got me interested in AC years ago! So they almost force you to stay on the ground level all the time. The story is pretty annoying, mainly because of the protagonist, Ratonhaketon AKA Connor Kenway..He is annoying, childish, naive and the list goes on... Oh and you will be hearing a lot of "What would you have me do?" Lines from Connor...and that really tells you about the level of the dialogue. Disappointment after another....The soundtrack= No more Jesper Kyd with his ambient music, now it's just movie music you hear everywhere, it just doesn't stand out! And oh the BUGS, it almost literally drove me insane especially during missions where you have to achieve perfect sync... I seriously wish i could recommend this to you AC fans, but i just can't..... this was a huge game of let downs and it is a disgrace to previous AC games, i mean it.
Oh and did i tell you about the horrible, anticlimax ending? See for yourselves...

Could have been better but this game just never would have been able to live up to the hype that was surrounding it. I personally do not think that Conner was as good as a character as Ezio was and the guy who played Conner sounded so robotic throughout the entire game. Excellent storytelling,, awesome scenario, awesome graphics, but the bugs, combat glitches, and many quest glitches plague this game endlessly, you will be forced to do the same mission 20 times as you keep getting spawned in unlucky spots, or randomly generated npc's will block you, i won't spoil much about the ending, but if you can suffer through the numerous glitches and errors that plague this game, you will enjoy it, the games centered around Ezio are still superior imo. This game is just overly long, and too boring to finish. I will be honest and say that I didn't finish the game. I beat all of the previous titles except the first one(sleep inducing). As much as Revelations really irked my soul, I had enough faith in ubisoft to redeem it, and make this franchise go out with a bang ... but they instead went out on a wimper. After 15 hours I just couldn't do it anymore. First off Conner, while being the most skilled Assassin out of Ezio and Altair, has the personality that is about as interesting as a brick. The story was not engaging what so ever, and after youtubing the ending, I can say that im glad I shipped it back early. Seriously what is with this year and endings? At least Mass Effect 3 was entertaining up until it's pathetic ending. But playing a game with a boring story, boring character, repetitive game play, and a weak ending just adds up to an epic fail. The only positive that I can give is that the game is stunning. But beautiful graphics is not a game make. Sorry Ubisoft but I no longer want to know what happens next, I am no longer intrigued, because the Assassin's Creed franchise is no longer intriguing. Expand

I wanted to love this game so bad. I really wanted to get into an Assassin's Creed game to see what all the fuss was about, and I've only played about 5 hours of AC2, so this one was definitely on my radar. Beautiful graphics, great voice acting, decent story, and decent controls, all ruined because it falls into the old gaming mechanic of trial and error. See what used to be ok with past games such as Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell, and other stealth games, is no longer considered ok, as was proven in games such as Dishonored, Deus Ex, etc. Now we want choice on how to fulfill an objective, not just told it can be handled one way, and if you don't do it correctly, we'll throw endless waves of enemies at you until you figure it out. This is unfortunately AC3, where if you don't follow the way the devs want you to accomplish a goal, they make it as difficult and as frustrating as possible, until after much trial and error, you find that path they wanted you to take. Not fun.

Naval battles are boring and don't add anything to the story, nor does it fit properly in the context of the fiction. Side quests are pointless and not worth doing. Eavesdropping mission is easily one of the worst game mechanics I have ever experienced in my years of gaming. Overall the game was not that good. Has it's moments, as the fighting is fun and taking down an leader with an aerial kill is always exhilarating, there just isn't enough moments to make me want to keep playing after 20 or so hours.

Let's be clear here:This game gets a 8.5/10.Nothing below that imo. That is why I chose to rate this 9/10.Now on to the review.
First of all this game has glitches. Not ridiculous glitches like some other mentioned here but glitches that should not exist in such a game. For example. In the cut scenes, subtitles appear and the person is actually talking, but his mouth is not moving. Also,I have e
xperienced a lot of frame rate issues.FPS is ok but only until you reach an area with a lot of people or a lot of objects. Those are the issues I have experienced thus far.Now to the pros. This game just does not feel as boring as AC Brotherhood and (possibly) AC Revelations.AC Brotherhood in my opinion was a copy of AC II,but well,a lot worse.Revelations felt, once again, generic. This game though, feels interesting, fresh.Of course, the story telling in all previous games is better and Connor is not as like able as Ezio BUT,when all other games failed(with the exception of ACII)this game succeded. If you are a lazy person then do not play game like this, where you have a lot of story telling and a lot of cut scenes. The first couple of hours in the game(make it one hour)you will spend doing things such as climbing and the game will let you familiarize yourself with the controls, before you get into the game.I haven't used the multiplayer feature yet so I cannot say anything about that. Please,PLEASE do not fully take into consideration the negative reviews, which, most of the time, are from people who expect way too much from one game.Of course,it is not as good as ACII and it does have some issues, but it deserves your 45-60 pounds because of the hundreds of games out there, this one is definitely worth it. Recruiting has been revamped to be more challenging, unfortunately it's also less fun. A bug was in my game that would say a one star level assignment was available in an area and when I opened the area to select the assignment it turned out to be a two level assignment (or three)...not game breaking but annoying to say the least. Contracts were a joke. Many could be completed by walking up behind the target, stabbing him and walking off. Homestead missions added a lot of flavor to the character development in the community although the voice acting for the main protagonist was horrible (he did much better in the main quest). The naval battles were off the chart awesome...Ubisoft should seriously consider making a pirate game. Neither the story nor the main character are as engaging as past "Ezio" games except for the sequences with Haytham (best character in game) and at times if felt a little ridiculous with Connor being the "savior" of all these huge past events. The sequences with Desmond were at times more fun than those in the animus and the game is worth the price if for nothing more than seeing the conclusion to his story. One shortcut was taken that really annoyed me. In the frontier at least 5 viewpoints are trees....I have no problem with that except for the fact it's the exact same tree every time...and when you do them one after another to open up the map, it is really aggravating. A solid game...enjoyable for the most part but not as good as AC2 or Brotherhood. Expand

The game is a disgrace to the franchise. I couldn't finish the game because of some of the flaws with the game. Returned it, got my money back. Good
    1. The game is very large. For awhile I was complaining about how ACB and ACR had small maps, well this game would surely shut any of those complaints up. 2. There are a lot of missions in this game. Plenty of things to do. Bad
    The
fact that I can't think of more than 2 good things about the game is a bad sign

    1. The combat is horrible. Basically the combat is circle to counter and square to attack. Even the first assassins creed game had more than 2 buttons used for combat. Certain enemies are nearly impossible to kill because you have no clue how to fight because it is completely counter intuitive and way too far from the other games.

    2. To make matters worse, the game doesn't have enough assassination missions. The game is basically you running around butchering people in broad daylight. There have been moments where guards will just randomly start attacking you, maybe it was because I killed too many guards, I don't know because there is no indicator for this like in the other games... 3. They took out abilities in the game for no reason at all.

    Want to jog? Nope can't do that! L1 = sprint, not L1 + X
Want to kick your enemy? Nope, remember circle and square are the only 2 actions
Want to air assassinate? Nope, never opportunities to air assassinate since the game is basically a bunch of wooden houses spread far apart.
Can I leap while climbing? NOPE

    4. Quicktime events. If you played RE6 before this game, you probably never want to see quicktime events ever again. Well bad news, they are all over the game. Random wolf attacks you, QTE, fail you pretty much die. THIS IS ALL OVER THE ENTIRE GAME. 5. You have no clue what the hell is going on. I actually found that I no longer cared, Connor is a boring character with no development at all. He is basically Jack the Ripper.

    6. I liked assassins creed 2 the most because the game offered a ton of beautiful maps. Florence and Venice are great locations. Sure they aren't as big as the maps in this game, but they are more dense and full of more life. I think it was a mistake to approach the american revolution as the setting. I want to go back to the renaissance era. Summary

The game is garbage. I gave RE6 a 4/10, the fact that this is getting a 3/10 means that the game is basically unplayable. Sure RE6 had **** quicktime events, but at least the game mechanics weren't absolute **** 50% of my score is based off of the controls, and if the controls suck ass then the game is basically worthless.

I would give this game a 8.5 if metacritic would let me.. Originally after seeing IGN gave it a 8.5 I felt offended, I've been looking forward to this game for a long time and although I feakin' loved Ezio, I was excited for the introduction of the new assassin Connor... Alas Connor ended up being the biggest dissapointment behind the many bugs of the game. After coming away from Revelations with Ezio, Connor made me realize how much personality Ezio contributed to the overall game. Connor is in a terrible situation in AC III and yet it feels like he's a push-over. But aside from this and the bugs I loved how massive the game was, although sometimes frustrating to get 100% synched... AC 3 is really the largest AC game there has ever been and it definetly is the best overall, it's just not 100% what I was hoping for. I didn't really focus on any of the side mission stuff while playing the game because they make it too easy to fast travel. I'm planning on giving liberation a shot now that i've completed III, I really hope they turn this series around and find a new exciting Assassin, hopefully one can measure up to Ezio. Expand

Like most games, This game hits it on the nail in some areas, and falls short in others. The beginning is boring. I don't just mean the first half-hour either... I mean the first 4 hours will make you feel as though you just wasted every dollar you spent on this game. Luckily, this game is long, and once you reach sequence 6 or so, the game becomes a lot more interesting. The game is at its peak at sequences 6-10, but I found the last 2 sequences disappointing. In all, the main storyline is the best we've seen in the series at times, and the worst in the series at times. One moment you're charging across a huge, epic, battlefield on your own looking to kill a Loyalist general, the next you're doing a frustrating, boring escort mission. One moment you're engaging an enemy in a gorgeous, fun, and challenging naval battle, the next you're sighing at a glitch causes 5 city criers to spawn in the exact same spot. One moment your character is in jail, scheming his escape, the next you're on a boat, with nothing to do except dreadfully boring story missions. Also, there were very few classic assassinations (something that I feel Brotherhood and Revelations lacked as well). Some of the best moments in the whole series came during assassin's creed 1 when altair was carrying out assassination missions, and I feel like this is something that could be integrated more in the modern titles. The naval battles, the hunting, the tree-climbing, and certain parts of the campaign are the best parts of the game (seriously, the naval battles are f**king awesome). The plot is good, but not great. Connor is not as likeable as past characters. He is not humble and is extremely rude to his mentor. The game builds up a great deal of doubt to whether or not the assassins are truly on the right ride of things or not, and this weighs on Connor greatly. However, Connor never truly finds the answers to the questions he is looking for. Just as I was, he seemed confused and ungrounded in his beliefs at the game's conclusion. because of this, many people like me will be unsatisfied with the resolution of Connor's story. Connor's story also comes to a rather abrupt end. Desmond's role is much more fun and engaging then before, but it is still short and sweet. The ending of the game in the modern era is.... interesting. No spoilers but Its not exactly a good ending, but I don't think it was terrible either (not like ME3 or anything). It is definitely set up for more sequels which is good (and these sequels will likely take place entirely in the modern era, which will be very interesting). I did not have problems with being chased while incognito like a lot of other reviewers, but the game is still very buggy. I could go on, but you get the point. Must have if you're a fun, strongly recommended if you're not, however, This is not the game of the year material we were all hoping for. Expand

I have been playing the assassin's creed series since the day the first installment came out and it finally comes down to the final installment. Overall, Assassin's Creed 3 is one of the best games I have played this year. It was definitely worth the wait since the cliffhanger in second installment. The story is set during the American Revolution where one will play another Assassin named Connor. The story was significantly long but enough to say that it was very well structured and well executed especially with the historic events during the 1700s. Character development was impressive especially the main protagonist in his quest for peace and freedom. I would say out of all the three ancestors you play, Connor is the one assassin that understood his main purpose in which was to achieve peace and freedom. The game play has been moved to the next level since the combat is more effective as well as skills. I am very proud to say that this game is a major achievement to a fantastic game series. I rate this game a 9/10 Expand

The graphics are the highest point for me. The storyline lacks, when compared to the other titles in this franchise. We all know the storyline of the assassins verses the Templars. But when I discovered the plot twist of the assassin and the lead Templar in this title, working together. I put my controller down, ejected the game from my ps3 console. That is exactly how disappointed I was. Not to mention the horrible control of naval vessels for naval warfare. I find it ridiculous that ubisoft didn't take enough time to develope this, and made a joke to the assassins creed series. Expand

I gave up on this I got that bored. I live this series but my heart sank when I saw that they had moved the setting from Europe to America. I have nothing against America but the trailer just made it look like you we're in trees from anywhere land. Guess what? That's what this game is like to play. You wander around, do the annoying captain first bit before moving onto the Indian second bit and then it goes all Red Dead Redemption on you. Skin this, set a trap for that, wander through lots of snow. None of which are very interesting at all tbh. The towns are non-descript, they could be from anywhere. The dialogue is crap, the story doesn't hook you at all. And will developers of games please learn that we do not want to wander for hours to do missions, it was annoying enough in Red Dead at times but this is worse. All in all this game is just another cash cow. Up to Revelations I have loved this series. The wonderful backdrops, the engaging story, the brilliant characters and the way it added a little bit more every time it came out. This feels like a massive step backwards. Expand

Well, it's a little hard to describe AC3. As soon as I saw all the content and bonus stuff it had to offer, I was just about ready to jump on here and give it 10/10. I have to admit that I'm...well, not disappointed, discouraged. The game is absolutely beautiful but that comes as no surprise. The story and character are new but everything else just seems to be the same, and it's quickly becoming outdated. Connor's voice acting is very stale and cheesy at times. The worst thing about this game is that sometimes it loses fun and feels more like a chore. However, given the sheer number of things to do, and the fact that the old Hidden Blade hasn't yet lost its thrill, I would still say that AC3 is a good game. I just hope that the next one takes a bigger step forward. Expand

AC3 is largely disappointing. There's no improvement over previous iterations in any way that matters and it, in fact, fails where prior games didn't. To start, the first six sequences are literally a drawn out and exceedingly padded tutorial. Every minute game mechanic gets its own mission. It's unforgivably stupid, particularly given that game plays exactly like previous AC games in every regard and that the mechanics are incredibly simple to begin with. I can't imagine ever wanting to play through this game again simply due to that. The game is only twelve sequences long and five of them are tutorials. It's ridiculously blatant padding. Combat is exactly the same in most regards though you're even more powerful that previous games. It's prettier but that's the most that can be said for it. There is absolutely no reason to ever buy new weapons as your base set can handle every foe in the game with ease. Like the entirety of the game economy, it's pointless and cosmetic time wasting that in no way effects the game. Equally superfluous is the Assassin mechanic taken from Brotherhood. Not once ever in the game will you need to use it expect when the game forces you to. That brings me to the biggest gripe: the missions. They are the least imaginative and most frustratingly rote main missions since the first AC. What game designer in their right mind thinks eavesdropping is a fun and interesting mechanic. Worse, there are missions that require it along with other requisites. Given that there is no real stealth mechanic and the checkpoint system is senseless you will be forced to listen to same conversation a lot. And about the stealth mechanics? Exactly the same as previous games but now you can lean around corners. "Stealth" still only involves hopping from cover to cover as opposed to, you know, being stealthy? In this day and age the mechanic is so dated it's an insult. It's incredibly jarring to be hiding then try to move to the next cover and Connor pops out and walks around like he's taking a Sunday stroll. Also, the main missions are so scripted it removes all player agency to a ridiculous degree. What's the point of a sandbox game where you can't apply creativity and the supplied tools to the task? Chasing someone? Don't bother doing anything other than what the game tells you. You'll start over. Catch up with your target prior to the subscribed time? Don't bother. He's invulnerable until the game says so. Don't bother thinking, just go from point A to point B like the game tells you to. The vast majority if the main missions are incredibly constricted like this, not to mention uncreative and dull. Many are outright misleading. Don't listen to NPCs when they tell how to order your men in the major battles. You'll get overwhelmed. Just run back and forth like a fool giving the order to fire as soon as able and your fine. That's just the game designers talking to you through an NPC trying to give the impression they put a lot more thought into they did. The naval battles on the other hand are quite fun. They are also the only reason to bother with tedium of the incredibly clunky convoy mechanics. The ship upgrades are fairly expensive and, unlike everything else in the game that you buy, they actually effect gameplay. Everything else you do to upgrade the homestead is cosmetic and you'll have to slog through incredibly bad designed menus to do it. All the menus are horrible actually. Like previous games you can instantly look at the database entry for historic tidbits. You'll quickly tire if that though as you end up in a giant nested hierarchy that requires you to back out of all of it to get back to the game. Your weapon menu? There's a minor load every time you use it. Want to use any of your many tools? Same menu and you have to wonkily scroll through and ever growing list to even switch through staple things like whistling for your horse. In other words they somehow found a way to make the controls more clunky that prior games. Not everything is bad. The world is pretty though the cities naturally lack the verticality of prior games. It's not even that everything is bad, it's just more of the same. Same dodgy stealth. Same bizarre AI that can't detect you in a two foot bush but can spot you from miles away otherwise. Same lack of meaningful economy. Same senselessly placed guards hanging out on rooftops when no guards ever historically did that. Same guards that climb as well as you. What's so special about your abilities if even lowly militia can do everything you can? Same combat rhythm with the same trope of certain guards needing certain counters to hurt them. There's no step forward here like Ubisoft claimed. The mechanics have dated for years and they just put shinier window dressing on them. So if you liked the old games you'll likely enjoy this one. For me, I too often felt like a pawn running from one cutscene to the next. Expand

Every single person who vote this below 9 is an unbelievable retard! Before trying out this one I thought... yeah... Assassins Creed again... tryied the first one, second one and the other series... they are just Assassins Creed... you ALWAYS know what the game is about, do the same thing and know that every single mission in all the past Assassins Creed series are actually all the same and the is BORING. I wanted to give this one a try and.... hhhh... I never felt this feeling before. I only had this feeling when I tried World of Warcraft Classic, Burning Crusade and Fable 1 and that's years ago!!! Those days were so GOOD addicting... Those games were sexy games and I loved them :D and you won't believe this.. Assassins Creed 3 is JUST LIKE THEM! The story is actually epic and cinematic just like Uncharted 2 and the gameplay feels facking relaxing just like World of Warcraft Classic and the RPG elements feels just as original as Fable 1: The Lost Chapters. In few words this game is insane and addicting with this relaxing feeling you probably had when you tried the first series of World of Warcraft role-playing games. Why? In Assassins Creed 3 they changed EVERYTHING from start to scratch. They even changed the way you use the buttons. They even changed the health bar and the sound effects. This is not Assassins Creed 1, 2 or the expansions... this is a brand new one which doesn't even remind about the old ones. It's a whole new project WAY different from the other ones. The graphics looks like Uncharted 2 and way more improved than the old Assassins Creed games. You don't hang around the streets everytime and searching for those Eagle Eye buildings to do sidemissions everytime. For the first time the game is actually telling the story just like they do in movies. This time it's DEFINITELY not about running on roofs and killing people. No... Maaaaaan this is a very bad review by me :D sorry about that buy I just can't explain it. It's just too much... it's wonderful! I couldn't explain how good World of Warcraft Classic was at the beginning because it's was good in every perspective you look at. It's a monster because it feels like a real roleplaying-game just like Warcraft 3, Diablo 2... maaaaan... try this out. This game can't be described in words. And no I'm not a nerd :D This is just too much perfect. Expand

AC3...is a great game. It is a bit slow but that shouldn't be a fault. The twist at the beginning and giving the character depth isn't something that should be frowned upon. That being said the gameplay is very slick. Performing multiple assassinations, while moving nonetheless, feels great. Running and jumping through the cities, and the trees, feels great. The hunting is fun and, in my opinion, better then Read Dead Redemption. The combat is actually somewhat challenging, enemies won't wait to attack and you cannot heal during a fight, Notoriety has been improved with each level being harder then the last, compared to the other AC games where if you were notorious all they would do is look then come over. Essentially what I am saying is this is a very good game and I don't understand why the score isn't in the 90's. Expand

First of all, the negative reviews on this game are sick and tiring. Everything in this game is incredible, and everything about this game is epic. Let me get all of the minor flaws out of the way first. Yes, this game does have a few hiccups, but so what? It's not like the game of the year last year (Skyrim) wasn't full of bugs, right? Wrong. Other than that, Desmond's face looks a bit like a prehistoric monkey, so I suggest him wearing the hood is much cooler, but that's about it. The technical achievements in this game is mind-blowing. The vast open-world is full of things to do, from hunting, to side missions to just exploring the living and breathing world. The weather affects in this game are magnificent, whether it's the snow glistening brightly in the sun, or the lavish leaves and tree branches, or the foggy rain pouring down, it is all beautiful. The weather takes an important toll on gameplay as well. For example, if you are trudging through snow, it will make it easier for you to decide to navigate through the trees instead. Speaking of navigation, this game is flawless. The free-running is the best the series achieved, and climbing through trees is even more flawless and free than navigating your way through the city's rooftops. The graphics in this game are outstanding. The motion capture makes it very realistic and brings you even deeper into the story. The character models as well are fantastic and are almost all very diverse. Just looking at the fantastic view of the wilderness is breath-taking... even looking at what the city has to offer (namely Boston) is incredible. The crowds are significantly updated and improved upon as well. They will take note of your action, excuse themselves when bumping in to you, and so on. Each individual person is all doing their own thing, which is cool. This time around, there are kids in the game. Some of their character models can be the same, but that's not the main problem there. They are plainly annoying. They all have the same laugh and will not stop bothering you unless you throw money at them. However, if they notice you are thieving quite well, then they will send you on missions or give you tasks to complete. The voice acting in this game is superb and brings memorable moments just as memorable as the faces you see and will come to remember. The animals in this game, such as bears, deer, elk, moose, goats, dogs, cats, rats, foxes, rabbits, hares, sheep, etc. are all very different in both the way they act and the way you act to them. For example, if you see a pig you can't kill it but you can feed it, and if you see a domestic dog you can pet it. But bears, on the other hand, let's just say you should try to kill it before they kill you... oh and I forgot to mention wolves.... yeah, they're dangerous as well. Foxes will just scatter away. Performing air assassinations on animals is just as fun and fulfilling as performing them on redcoats. New weapons, such as the rope dart, tomahawk and bow and arrow are all thrilling to use. The feeling of sitting there in a bush an knowing that at any given time you can assassinate either an animal or a person is awesome. The bow and arrow works very well, and feels very realistic. The rope dart is probably the most fun weapon to use, as you can list people up to trees or lever them closer to you for an assassination, sort of like the inverted takedown or the bat-claw in Arkham City except here you can kill. The story is also extremely exciting at certain points and jaw-dropping at others. The eye-popping visuals and top-notch voice acting and sound effects contribute to that highly. The Desmond bits in this story are very fun to do, and are always a nice break from the wilderness. Navigating through underground tunnels can be fun at times, but honestly can be a little boring too. Building up a Homestead is fun to do, and you will meet a vast array of characters, each with their own personality along the way. Your brotherhood is acquired through in-depth missions of recruitment, making it more meaningful than in the past. The naval combat in this game is outstanding. Just the feeling of commanding a vessel on the high seas with speedy winds blowing in your face is chilling... never mind destroying other ships with your cannons. Overall, this game is an excellent mix of Red Dead Redemption, Batman: Arkham City and Uncharted with it's courageous own twist on history. This game is not only the best of the series, but the best game of 2012 as well. While I haven't gotten to multiplayer yet, I am sure I will love that just as much, but the fact that I haven't even got to it yet, show you the wealth of gameplay in single-player. Expand

Assassin's Creed 3 has everything that I could want in a video game because for me a video game has to be an experience almost like a novel and a movie that you're creating as you experience it. The amount of content is staggering and welcome taking great features from the series' previous titles and other recent hit games. There have been so not so positive reviews but I will say this, if you like adventure games with a lot action and if you like to take the time to explore then you will like this game. I have played all the assassins creed games and this is by far my favorite. It does not do a whole lot different from the previous games but it does fine tune the game into a much better game. I haven't been more excited for an Assassin's Creed game since Brotherhood, and this one is no let down. In fact, it is the best in the series for many reasons, number one being the complete overhaul of the engine and controls. It is as fresh as AC2, and is also miles ahead in terms of story, character depth, and game play quality. Despite many reviews citing the glitches in this game (there are a few, but none that completely ruin the experience), I can't seem to run into any of the worst ones. I did pick this up day one, so it is possible these reviews are pre-patch, which is already an issue when trying to determine your purchase. Overall, I give it a 9.5. The graphics are fantastic, the combat (once you get used to it) is very fluid, if not sometimes frustrating when you fail to time your counters and attacks properly, and the story is very well written, down to the normal NPC citizen dialog. The only issue I really seem to have is not being to put this game down. It is not a perfect 10 as there are some glitches that I found a bit annoying when they popped up, and only one really big break on a fort attack where the entire regiment disappeared forcing me to come back later in the story to complete, but these were few and far between in my game. So given the amount of fun I have had with this, I can not honestly rate it any lower. Expand

Ok so I just finished this game and must say it's disappointing. The graphics are severely glitchy (i can make cows walk thru each other, soldiers pass thru walls, and dead men stand, etc). The game play/controls are not as user friendly as the last few games and the recruits are a joke. It is a good game but not nearly as good as the 10 out of 10 reviews given to it by some prelaunch critics. Will I replay it, definitely. However i regret spending the $60 on it new when i could have waited or it to show up in the used bin at my local game store. It was a nice idea but I hate to say Ubisoft should have spent a little more time on the details. I give it a solid 8 it's good, but could have been better. Expand

alright lets see... im going to start this out with a rating of 9/10 because i was super pumped for this game ever since it was first announced. but.... the only reason such a high score is that i found the gameplay to be interesting; i really appreciated the visually pleasing graphics that were added into this and the main story line was flawless (almost like a movie). that said, i do believe that the game was too much of "a movie". it seemed as if every 5 minutes there was another cinematic taking over my gameplay. and taking away from my experience. now i did LOVE the open world and the home front and homestead etc... i found it to be a great place to have fun and learn how to perfect your free-running skills and mess around with the entirely re-built combat system. i did like the combat system, though difficult to handle i loved the new moves that just kept coming, it seemed as if every other fight i was finding all new finisher moves for example this is one i just found, i went to ambush a platoon of redcoats on the road and i laid trip mines on front of them and when it went off i ran in with my tomahawk and cuts a mans throat and threw my rope dart into someones heart leaving him standing and bleeding out prefusley :D. it blew my mind. but back to it, i do remember hearing about 2 dozen different animals that you are to be able to hunt? i only killed about 7 or 8 of them regularly and most of the time you only see either a fox, rabbit, deer, or bear, a cougar on one occasion but that was it :/. i was disappointed with that outcome. but mainly the only reason this game is not a 10/10 is simply because there are just too many glitches. on too many occasions have i been walking and my whole upper body freezes stiff or people are stuck in trees or the cinematic s are making it so the characters mouths dont move or my personal favorite, the one where when you are in a cinematic and the voices get ahead of the characters actions according to what they are saying. it is not only confusing but also extremely aggravating. this is an amazing game but Ubisoft could've probably paid more attention to detail. you know, i honestly can't decide if i like this game or not. I'm playing it, and sinking a lot of time into it, but I have a nagging feeling that i'm not actually enjoying myself. I'm apparently 50% through the game, though i don't know if that's story completion or a GTA style overall completion. I somehow feel directionless. The story just kind of feels like, ok, we're doing this now, it doesn't feel vital. Or it doesnt feel necessary. I often feel like if I was Conner I'd be saying screw you guys, I'm going home. I'm not doing that crap. Your explanation of why i should help you is flimsy and I'm not murdering countless people on faith.

There's too much side crap that I feel like I'm doing for no good reason. Its like the first AC. they put all those flags out there, and I'm searching and collecting them, and my girlfriend comes in and asks why I'm collecting the flags, and I couldn't give her a reason. There was no benefit, nothing gained. They fixed that in AC2, i forget what you got, but you got something. But with this one, why am i telling this guy to make me barrels? Why am I collecting the damn feathers again? Why do i want to make sure I kill each of the animal types in each hunting area? I don't friggin remember. I've been running for so long that the flies on my decaying corpse finished eating the carrot that they were dangling in front of me.

And why cant i take a leap of faith off the damn synchronizing trees? I really have to climb back down this damn thing? maybe it doesn't make sense that there's a pile of hay at the base of every tree, but dammit, I'm jumping.

And there's something about our portrayal of native american's that bothers me. The way we make these characters speak and emote is lacking something. I just don't have the connection with him that I had with ezio. Even Altair did more for me. For a while i just thought he was a dick, but at least i felt SOMETHING for him.

And the other characters. Leonardo was awesome in the last one. I don't know what it is, but the portrayal of all these American Founders comes off hokey to me.

I don't know man. I'm still gonna play it, because it is still calling to me. But I'm still very ambivalent about it. It may just be that they're making too damn many of these. Releasing them before they actually have something interesting for me to play. And that's the problem. I dig Assassin's Creed. I like the premise. I like the gameplay, and the freedom. But i haven't been allowed to miss it. I haven't been left waiting and wanting. I haven't even had a chance to play Revelations yet. For example, I'm really psyched to play Bioshock because the absence has made my heart fonder.

Ubisoft, take a break. Come back to the table refreshed. Take some time in production. And bring us a game. A good game. Not a bunch of game elements that don't entirely work together cohesively as a whole. Maybe a little deeper in the game they provide a good reason for me to be making barrels. If so my bad. No, their bad for leaving me with this crap to do and no discernible reason to do it. But if they don't have a good reason, maybe another year at the design phase would've helped them come up with one.

After spending years studying the peninsular wars and American civil and revolutionary wars as a hobby I was absolutely bouncing off the walls waiting for this game. I'm British myself and couldn't wait to take on the relentless Redcoats and teach them a lesson in manners that apparently all Brits in the media are portrayed to have! This it would seem would be incredibly easy, every Redcoat in AC3 is simply obnoxious, now considering many army regulars were criminals or the lowest in social standing and many would have never seen a native american, a reaction for the worst would be expected, however considering that most 'Natives' sided with the British concerns me with regards to accuracy! You are repeatedly told the British are coming to take your lands, within hours if you actually watch the 15 cut scenes it takes to get you to collect a feather from a tree also bothers me, I'm certain it was colonial American expansion that worried the natives! Poor Charles Lee, he had a particularly bad war, he wanted Washington's job. history suggests he didn't get it, but to make him out in early scenes to be a lovable rogue and in later scenes to be a child prodding sycophant is pushing it, he died of a fever with his hunting hounds. Sadly inconsistencies are throughout this game, even the weaponry is incorrect, I know I'm being a nerd here but how long and how many people were studying the history for this game? The animation of loading is great though, I loved the (mostly) full loading procedure! Especially when it meant I got stabbed! It was realistic! The gameplay is ok, the free running thing is great but you hold a button and push forward, you sometimes have to press down, it looks pretty sweet though, however fall into combat and much hilarity ensues! Now I may be wrong, but I have not noticed a difficulty button, so it may be me making this combat system appalling. Press a button to parry when the screen slows down, then press kill, is not a challenging attack system! Sometimes they parry your parry and you might have to press x! The sheer cramp this failed to give my hand concerned me further! After single handedly taking on 40 Redcoats I should be jaded, not bopped the lot in exactly 80 very slow button presses! There were so many features in this game I wanted to be good, listening to, and solving frontiersmen challenges and filling my homestead, but making bloody barrels and nails isn't a trade system for an action game, give me something I can bury into Sir Howe's forehead and send us pesky Brits to the other 20% of the world they owned! If you want to have a game that has a pretty standard story that has some easy to digest history, albeit wrong, interest is better than nothing in my eyes! You can execute British troops all day in all manner of hilarious and buggy ways, double dagger to the face and leave them standing, check! Tomahawk to the shoulder and subclavian arteries! Watch him, he is going to parry you, and fantastically cliched cut scenes go for it!!! There's a lot here. Just everything seems to be ok, nothing makes you gawp at the screen or chuckle to yourself, or even make you think you achieved something beyond timing a button press! The naval battles though!! Do em, again and again, just please don't ruin Trafalgar for me as well with some end of world of witchcraft! Expand

The Good The story elements were great (if a little slow and protracted). While it would have nice to have some aspects more fully fleshed out (more climactic boss encounters and more insight into character motivation), we both enjoyed where the story went and are interested to see how they proceed from here. The Bad Combat was not improved at all. If anything it was simpler and more boring. Yes there were more ranged combat choices, but there was no visible way to really improve or customize your weapons. Combat has never been particularly deep tactically, but this installment was actually a step backwards. The game made it far too easy to successfully counter and there was almost no variety in opponent type Expand

As an AC fan I am really disapointed with this game. It is seriously on par with AC1 (which is awful) this game was a step back overall. The only positives in this game are the stunning online & the amazing graphics. This game is a rent at best. It was just a overhyped mess.

Great game. Love the time period and how much fun they made waxing redcoats. I don't recall another game going into the colonial period in the US like this but it's a fun departure.

Hold your breath! Assassin's Creed III is better than "Revelations" hands down! But sadly isn't quite as epic as Assassin's Creed II. It still falls prey to same glitch effects like the previous' and at times you'll get annoyed and think umm what just happened? Don't worry it's just the animus, it's just the damn animus!!!........But away from the negative for a while. The game perfectly captures the essence of the American revolution and the whole new update of graphics from the engine make the Italian Renaissance from Assassin's Creed II look like Prototype. Story is fine (Not cliched, nicely original) but Connor's character is a tad annoying, and it's development is often confusing. The game's scenes are also quite fast paced, you'll often feel like your watching a movie at times than playing a video game but aside, overall the environment and red dead redemption inspired hunting makes the replay value quite pleasing. Great game! could have been longer with more game play throughout the story. Expand

What a complete waste of time. I actually could't play this game for more than two hours at a time, fearing my heart would give in from my frustration:-)
Every aspect of this game i worse than even AC1. Let aside the battles at sea whitch was new and great.
The buttons, the story, gameplay, grafics, caracters, conversations, cutcenes, I could go on and on, they all suck!
    Do not buy this

AC III is a controversial game. It's obvious that it will be percieved through the prism of latest games in the series. The Revolutionary War feels epic but the new protagonist in the middle of it is more likely catalyst of action, rather than main revolutionist of the plot. Just like Altair, to be fair, during The Third Crusade. Connor, new assassin, is not quite dull as it seems. He is a pride Mohawk, weighing every word. At the end of the game he is 18-19. Ezio was at the 19 when he became an assassin. Altair was 24. Maybe Connor isn Expand

I have always had a love hate relationship with the Assassin's Creed series, and III just reaffirms that. The plot itself is pretentious and bland, the alternate world of Desmond is an unnecessary intrusion on an otherwise fun concept, when you're having fun in the middle of a tense part of the assassin story, the developers thought it would be a good idea to leave that then run around in a linear, boring side mission that's pointless. The combat is ridiculous, just button mash two buttons to kill 50 soldiers, it's boring, unrealistic, and tedious. The story itself is anti-climatic, nothing is tied together, side missions are time wasters, run round to a point they tell you to 50 times for some reward not worth having, press one button to assassinate someone then hide in a bush. It's the most monotonous game play ever. It's an insult to the stealth genre if you can even call it that, it skewers history while being incredibly accurate at the same time. The loyalists and patriots are somehow both enemies but you fight for the patriots, it tries so hard to develop a dramatic back story while indulging us in senseless fiction. Despite all that, the game play and controls are tight, and running around stabbing dudes is mindless fun, which is all it is, but it's nothing more. Expand

I'm sorry but I just can't give this game more than a 5, I have been a massive fan of Assassin's creed games since the very beginning owning or at least playing every one, don't get me wrong some of the smaller games were hard to get on with like on psp etc but I have played and would rate all of them at least 7-10 if not more !!! But this, this is a stupid game, what happened to the free roaming glory of the other games, building up your assassin's etc and really getting stuck into this action, it just felt to me like this game only gave you one road to follow with little animus interaction or options . Ubisoft tried to be ambitious with this new game but I felt let down really. The main protagonist is a complete bore and what frustrated me even more was the small story telling sessions that he undertakes in order just to try and fill gaps in the storyline. The gamer should be experiencing this first hand, rather that getting it painfully explained in a dreary, monotone voice. The gameplay however, was a good improvement on its predecessors, the movements were more fluid, realistic and brutal and the graphics were a noticeable improvement on previous games aswell however it is tarnished by countless glitches. AC3 is like an aging wife whose flaws get harder to ignore as she takes more than she gives. Slow pace, slow loads, slow movement. Broken and heart breakingly, simply not fun. I never cared about the inane and muddled sci fi storyline, I fell in love with AC2 and Brotherhood for tower sieging and breakneck horse rides through Italy. This game forces the cruddy story on you while stripping the fun away. After controls improving through each title, 3 inexplicably goes backwards. Your many escorts get stuck in walls, the "stealth" is shatteringly broken, enemies are dumber than ever and the only time a fight is interesting is when you can't find your character in the jumbled frenzy. You have to pause the game to access the former weapon wheel... how?! Why take a modern function to replace with a 1995 inventory?

This is inexplicably a bad game. Disgusting. I still love synching viewpoints, managing double assassinations, and petting cats & dogs. Had I not cared, then meh, but I'm sad that 3 is such a failure.

This is one of the games which i've been looking forward to for like the entire year. AC 3 came back to what made AC 2 as good as it was, the major storyline was very refreshing since it was not set in Italy but the entire indian thing did not exacly work for my. The main protagonist Connor lacks most of the epicness which Ezio had in the previous parts of AC. Where I think people might want to be Ezio, they probably were annoyed by certain things Connor does. But there were also a lot of stronger points in AC 3. I liked the graphics and the environment pretty much and the brand new animals in the game. Than there is mister Kenway who made the start of the game rather confusing for me because I expected to play Connor. It ended up that Haytham Kenway was like the character i'd wanted to play in stead of Connor, he makes the player doubt the assassins and he shows what the templars are. Even though the game wasn't as good as i expected it would be, it still was a pretty decent game. I might recommend to most of my friends who'd like AC but the epicness is mostly putten away by Connor. Expand

I have very mix feelings about this game. The combat is very similar to Batman's combat system, and it works pretty well, but it feels lazy on the developers part. You attack with one button and counter with another, you can also use human shields which is awesome. The free-running isn't very smooth. Now you only use one button to do everything like climbing and running. This one button to run makes you run up stuff you don't want to quite a bit and if you get too close to stacks of leaves, you'll jump in. Running in the frontier feels great, though. The graphics are fairly good, the textures are absolutely terrible, though. To be honest, the graphics don't push the current generation of gaming consoles at all. The hunting in this game is pretty fun. I enjoy killing the animals with my bare hands. The story is also weak, and not engaging. My main complaint is the unfinished feel this game has. There's just something about this game that gives off an unfinished/unpolished vibe. Maybe it's because the free-running isn't smooth, or the lip syncing is off, or the combat is a Batman ripoff, or the terrible textures, or the fact that the 'stealth' in this game is atrocious. The stealth in this game is so bad it's sad. You can't crouch and sometimes you don't crouch in the bushes. Obviously this game was rushed from the beginning, and I can't really recommend it. Expand

Very, Very, Very Disappointing. The game play gets very old if you are only a Single Player sort of person. Multiplayer is basically whoever has played the longest is going to win, and coop was rushed and thrown out there and should have been just left out.

I felt irritated by the fact that it took five gruelling sequences before I got to play as the main character, and for being so moral, he seems to put his tribe above everything else, easily being the weakest main character of the series (although I loved his look and combat). The single player just did not satisfy me, I can't really say more except that it just disappointed me; I expected more out of it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a great game, but its without a doubt, the worst in the series. As a stand alone game, it feels more like a GTA sandbox than an AC one, with a protagonist of grayish morality that works with many factions (Assassins, Templars, British, Patriots), without developing a significant bond with any of them, each one represented by a set of quirky or interesting NPC that give you an errand, even the "traitor figure", the one that is friendly at first, introduces you to the world, betrays you and is confronted in the end (Dimitry, Gary, etc), can be seen in Charles Lee. To this, one must add the more horizontal focus on the game and the fact that the horse is your main transportation method. ENVIROMENT and SETTING: the colonial period as a setting is a bad choice, since firearms have been introduced in previous games, the time period brings nothing new, the architecture is the same in both Boston and New York, specially when it comes to viewpoints as they are the same goddamn church, and the only variation is the mast in beacon hill. The frontier can feel claustrophobic and slow at times specially during winter, since you are surrounded by vertical elements that you cant always climb. There are places that look gorgeous, like the fields of New York, but the game doesnt encourage their exploration, they are dead space. Even as a history element, it could be argued that Desmond and company must search in america because they are pinned there, but they seem to change locations with ease.
MAP: the map has its problems, as certain mission only show up when discovered, and it is difficult to distinguish an explored place from an unexplored one. COMBAT: The main innovation is regenerative health and the different strategies for different enemies, however health only goes up outside of combat, and most enemies can only be attacked in one way, leaving no room for variation of combos. WEAPONS: Unlike previous AC games, most weapons are unlocked since the begining for you to buy, in the end you realize that the best weapons are acquired early on, and are even cheaper than most of them. Your FISTS are FREE and are EQUALLY EFFECTIVE. STEALTH: The AC franchise is known for the ability to blend in the crowd, but in this installment all the variety introduced in the last 3 games seems pointless, when your are chased by guards and decide to hide in a bench, well, or haystack, one will always stay behind and search your hiding spot, eventually finding you if you dont kill him, and if you do the others might see you, thus making it more effective to just kill them all in place. You can cross through whole buildings to evade platoons, but chances are there is another one on the other side, and such places require you to stop and look for them. You can pass near "Vigilantes" to stop them, but they are few and far in between. Only one NPC is required to blend. The detection rate has gone up so climbing rooftops can be hard withouth alerting the whole city. SHOPS: Since AC 2 there have been plenty of different shops each with its own merchandise, however in AC3, they all share the same inventory, and have to be discovered by entering them, all the shops in the world are basically one. SIDE-MISSIONS: These are the core gameplay of a free roaming game, and its where AC3 fails hard, as they interconect and the pacing of their introduction render some pointless, mainly due to relying on the crafting system which really only progresses with the story, for example Almanacs must be chased after, normally with a conga line of red arrows, collecting them unlocks RECIPES with high requirements and when you craft them they are DECORATIVE INVENTIONS, that you cant use in any way. Overall, the unlocks consist in outfits, but most of them dont carry the Assassin theme. In summary it feels that they build the game around the crafting, hunting and naval mission systems, rewarding you with the activity itself rather than a final prize. STORY: This game learned nothing from its predecesor, having instead 3 protagonists, the intro confuses more than anything and only shows how little development Desmond has, his sections are walking from one cutscene to another, where the delivery come from an obviously evil "ghost"?, they made the terrible mistake of using a character from a tie-in comic as a pivotal one, mr Cross, whose appearence is sudden and everyone seems to know him, and a lil' wiki check on him only comes up with better material for possible games. Haytham and Connor's history is disjointed and shallow in importance, the first one isn't the antagonist, an exists solely for a plot twist in the begining and to reinforce the templar/assassin dichotomy, as for the latter, he shifts both his alliance and his hatred of his situation so much that he just seems hateful for no reason.

I realy did but I failed. There is no quiet assasin style kill here, you run in the open and EVERYONE can sense your present and ready for the killing even if you are hidding behind a wall, or god forbids, ON THE ROOFS! no running on top of roofs, they are ready for you, They'll climp up for you to force you down! and then run after you some more while shooting at you and..oh god! what happened?!! This game was **** ON A DISC. I won't spoil the ending for anyone, because that's wrong, but all in all, start to finish this game was horrible. I was so excited to get this game, and once I had it, I couldn't wait to start! The beginning is already confusing as hell. The gameplay was terrible, especially the combat. The counter feature is completely shot, I've never had a harder time killing guards. There are so many glitches in this game that I don't know what to do. I've had endless guards spawn for fights, inability to complete missions because something isn't there that I need, and losing 100% synchronization because of a pebble I tripped over somewhere. I'm telling you, whoever is reading this, play at your own risk. The stealth factor in this game is horrible, there is nowhere to hide, and even if there is, guards can still detect you easily. There aren't any armor upgrades, and you have to do way too much upkeep at your "home base" in my opinion. Back in AC2 and Brotherhood, Ezio's side missions (which were a lot more inviting to play) increased the homestead. On top of that, money is scarce, unless you're willing to run through every god forsaken forest and pass every tree to find forts to conquer. Hunting is pretty pointless, and the animals are **** everywhere. I couldn't pass through the forest without having to fight several packs of wolves. In the end, I was so fed up with the hunting regions that I just fast travelled everywhere. The aspects of this game aren't satisfying, they just make you want to run through the sequences and finish (which is what I did). There is no incentive to spend time improving the lands or yourself, or trying on the missions, because you get so damn fed up with glitches, lack of combat, and the ultimately boring storyline. 3/4 of the game is all about bringing up the past, and it just seems like one big tutorial. You spend the first 1/3 of the game just figuring out who the hell Connor is, and the rest of the game, he's a rookie. After years of "supposed" training (that you don't go through, it's just a cutscene and suddenly he's an assassin) he still can't get **** straight. I didn't like his character. He was driven by revenge I guess, but his drive wasn't in the right places. He just seemed to bounce around with his thoughts too much, and not focus on being a kick ass assassin. Come on, Ezio wanted revenge, and he did whatever it took to improve himself. He didn't go blindly running after people. Connor just seems like a bitter, little boy. There was no part in the game where you got to bond with the character, like Ezio. I don't know about everyone else, but I felt like I was constantly waiting for a moment where I would feel connected to the game, like I did for AC2 and Brotherhood, AND Revelations (Even AC1 for that matter). It never happened. I'm clearly unhappy with this game, Ubisoft screwed up big time. I will say, I did enjoy the Desmond parts of the game, being in the different countries and all. I wish there was more Desmond involvement. One thing I liked about the AC franchise was the history. They go back in time, right? This game was so bad I preferred to be in the present. I could go on and on and on, but you get the idea. It was terrible. Like I said, **** on a disc. I can't believe I paid top dollar for it. Even the DLC didn't help. I won't spoil it, but that ending? Wow, takes the cake. Awful. Ubisoft, just stop. Expand

    Assassin's Creed III.
Note: I have decided to include 2 new segments to this review, because there are some things that I can't consider good, or bad.
    Good Points:
+ The Period of time, the American Revolution is a great time to explore how an assassin and templar brotherhood could have installed there. Haytham Kenway, he's an excellent character and just impossible not to like. The com
eback of more than 1 city (although you had Capadoccia in Revelations, you practically played all in Constantinople) and the different characteristics of each individual place. The Frontier and the addition of animals and hunting is amazing. The Seasons, now you can have snow and is just beautiful. Climbing trees, it is very useful when you have to scape from something or you just don't want to go on the snow (or whatever reason you find). The Length of both, the story and all side quest, which gave a lot of fun hours. Naval Battles, all (even those who rated this game with a 0) know that this is a TRULY good point. The vast inventory (including heavy, small, normal weapons and also a lot of range weapons). The American Assassin Brotherhood; This time they gave importance to how you meet them and why they decided to join the Brotherhood, giving each Assassin a different background. The Present Day gets really fun on this one, by giving you missions to retrieve power sources. Soundtrack, I always say it's amazing, but I have no word for this one IT'S BRILLIANT. (sorry for that). The Forts, it's really fun to liberate them and take away all Red Coats. Noah Watts and Adrian Hough, they make and incredible voice acting giving it emotion and a really interesting atmosphere. Benedict Arnold missions are just OK and we're lucky that they're free because I wouldn't recommend them if you had to pay for it. The Assassin Suit, is definitely the best Assassin outfit so far. The outstanding graphics, this is visually the best AC game so far. The AnvilNext Engine, it makes the game more realistic and powerful than before (it is also a bad point, check why)
    Bad Points:
    - The Game truly starts at Sequence 8 (considering you unlock New York, the final location, in this sequence), which is a shame, because you don't get full liberty until half of the game. Sequence 1, memory 3 is way to long, there was no necessity of making the ship travel so long. The pacing of the story is very slow and you'll probably get bored in some part of the story. Making board games as part of 100% synchronization, it's awful! Nobody wants board games obligatory. The game is "in parts" you have to buy 1 DLC (Hidden Secrets) to have the full game. Horse Riding, is horrible and in the frontier worst; Red Dead Redemption succeeded to make and incredible horse riding, why can't this game?. One of the most bugged games I have seen, why couldn't they delay the game to make it without any bugs or glitches or leave it with just a few?. The AnvilNext Engine, it was overwhelming for the game in some moments, like now there's a lot of people in the city, but they disappear mysteriously while they're walking (I mean, what?). Stealth, it is totally gone, you kill a guard and the whole city knows it. There's no background music while you're not currently in a mission, and you're just playing for fun, and it helps getting you bored.
    (+ New Segment) Middle Points:
Ratonhnhaké:ton (Connor), I can't say if he is either a good or bad point, because he is so complex and it is up to you to tell if he is a good or bad character. But before, I most tell you something: Ratonhnhaké:ton had the worst imaginable life and I can't say much more without spoiling you anything; before you judge him you most know that people who get that trauma turn to be really bad people. HomeStead Crafting and sending caravans, I don't know if you're going to like it, but for me it was an easier and most interactive way of winning money and trading things than previous Assassin's Creed Games. The Ending, I can't explain how is it a middle point without spoiling, just know that there's a 50 that you like it and 50 you don't. Synchronization ranks; now is more than 1 synchronization objective, so it's sometimes frustrating and sometimes a nice challenge. Simplified Gameplay, now the game has simplified the buttons and for expert AC gamers is boring at times, though if you're a newcomer you'll probably have a great time.
    (+ New Segment) Personal opinion:
I think this game was awesome, but had flaws like Ratonhnhaké:ton smiling 3 or 4 times in the game, or the game being so slow. The Ending was very shocking for me and I didn't know how to deal with it. Gameplay mechanics we're simplified and that I didn't like.
    Final Score:
Assassin's Creed III is the biggest, ambitious and inmersive AC game, telling an interesting story and adding some cool things. However, the game didn't fully completed it's ideas and somethings we're changed way too much. The Graphics, design, story are beautiful.

Well, first off making any game play this well (at times it is excruciating in close quarters) but overall balls out **** amazingly well, is so difficult at this scale it defies words. I would seriously have bought this game if it was for the sailing ship captaining portion alone. THIS IS SO VERY GOOD, THE DYNAMICS ARE FLAWLESS. Let alone everything else you get in the package. This game demands all time you have to vest in it. The only thing that left me angry was the nature of the way the ending was handled. I can't explain how ecstatic I was when we found out whom the celestial old beings were in AC2m, literally one of the best gaming moments I have ever enjoyed. Taking all of that excitement and ending the way it did was supremely disappointing. I give the dev team and the programers as well as artists an 11 for this great work, script writers responsible for the main storyline get a paltry - fukc youz. Expand

The sad truth is that one of the most hyped games of 2012 just wasn't very good by any stretch of the imagination. Assassin's Creed III is by the far the worst entry in the series to date and its greatest achievement include making the American Revolution boring, creating a boring protagonist, having one of the worst endings of 2012, and owning some hilarious bugs. I guess I will say the positive things first. Maybe I should say thing. The graphics are really great and the game actually looks beautiful. At least when you aren't slipping into holes in the geometry or clipping through walls that is. You play as Connor, or his true name Noonecares. I didn't much care for Ezio, but Connor has got to be one of the dullest personalities I have found in recent games. Despite having more character development than Ezio, he still falls short when compared to Ezio. The rest of the story somehow manages to be boring too. Many of the exciting moments take place in cutscenes and then you just walk from one cutscene to another. Sounds fun? You're right it doesn't. There's also a 6 hour tutorial. Yep! You don't even play as Connor then either! I know right?! Look just wait for this to drop to 20 dollars. If you must play you may find some enjoyment, but don't expect a godsend. A fantastic game this is not. Expand

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW--- could have been epic, but instead let down by a dull story, repetitive gameplay and sadly ( a first in the franchise) boredom! Looks fantastic and HAD SO MUCH PROMISE but in fact comes out dry, limp and really unrewarding. Bugs yes, travelling lots, terrible characterisation- indeed, but none of that makes it a bad game; it's the promise of greatness & subsequent mediocrity that is the real bummer here!! What a missed opportunity, what a shame. My last AC purchase - and if you don't agree play red dead redemption for an hour- it's superior in every way when this Ac could have been the icing on the cake. Oh for shame ubisoft, a huge drop kick given the excellent premise and buildup. By the way I had this game 2 days before the rushed reviews came ou and mine is 100 per cent complete full synch. I have played all the Assassin Creed games and was looking forward this one so much, but when reading other reviews was a little worried, so waited until the price dropped before buying! A good choice, while the game is nice to look at it, it is very frustrating and the characters are pretty dull. I have played every game through to completion and enjoyed collecting all the trophies that go with it, but for the first time I can't be bothered with all the side missions, this game has really disappointed so far(up to sequence 5), I hope the further I get it improves! Like Resident Evil 6, this game has just too many issues. Too many brick walls. Right when you're getting into it you're hit with some section which has you questioning if you even want to go on. Note: having to take out every bad guy on a boat using the exact method the developer demands, requiring endless trial and error and reloading ten times is not fun. It's a relic of the worst old stealth games. The stealth in general is just terrible and pointless. Bad guys everywhere and you always just end up in a fight anyways so you just stop trying stealth at all. Incredible world and many amazing sections make the game good overall, but forget about the polish, just as the developers did. Expand

Everything (that we've learned to love and hate) is here. Gameplay, graphics, mechanics, we all know what to expect. Does this mean A3 is more of the same? No. And this is why I'm giving it a positive review. A3 is a breath of fresh air, even though it's pretty much the same game from before. It's the small tweaks that made the difference. The environment (finally leaving old Europe) is gorgeous, with a beautiful scenery and an open world that reminded me of Red Dead Redemption. The whole concept is fantastic as well (the assassins and the templars involved with the American Revolution). The new character, Connor (it's impossible to write his Indigenous name) is an interesting one, with a charm of his own; and it's great to play with someone else then Ezio. Another great addition are the naval battles, which function as the best mini-game in the series so far. I don't know where Ubi is taking this franchise but this time, at least, they really offered something with a new taste. And, for me, gave the series some lifetime to burn. Not the best game in the world (and not the best game of 2012) but a great game nevertheless. Must not be missed. Expand

When I picked up this game I played it for quite a while. It was a great game the combat had been changed and it took a while to get used to but so far it was a good game. No normally when playing a game like this I play another game at the same time so in this case I played batman arkham city . which I personally think is one of the best games this gen and if you haven't already I would seriously suggest picking it up. Anyway I suddenly thought how similar the two games were. AC3 new counter system is identical to arkham city's only arkham city's is a lot better. The story is much better in Arkham city as well. When I cottoned on to this I noticed that the whole hunting thing was almost entirely ripped off the Red Dead Redmption. So to some up this game is really good but everything this game does has come from another game but that game did it MUCH better so instead if paying full price for this go get Arkham city or Red Dead redemption which you could probably buy both of them for less than you did for AC3 Expand

First off - Big Assassin's Creed Fan, so naturally I was waiting for this to hit the shelves since its announcement. In short - It's a game that will not disappoint however in my opinion, hasn't got enough to blow it out of the park. The character development was all too quick (even though the intro was quite long), I just thought Connor went from being a boy to a 'man on a mission' all to quickly. For example, one second Achilles is going to train him and BAM 6 months later: Master Assassin. Connor himself is a great character but he lacks the charm and likeablilty the Ezio has. He reminds me a little bit of Altair, and to be honest, the game resembles AC-I quite a lot (Long travels in between cities and horse rides that have become not all that fun anymore). The combat however is really good (however it does take some getting used to), new weapons are great, naval missions are superb and hunting is also well executed. This game is by no means a bad game, however I think if it had more elements of Ezio's installments mixed in with these new features, it would of made for a masterpiece. Still a must have in your AC Collection. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I came into this with much baggage, thinking the team had gone too far in implementing an era that didn't really suit the previous chapters. How wrong I was! This period in time was sublime, fitting and engaging for almost all of the game. It does take a while to warm up, but once it does, the characters, environments, story and voice acting swallow you in for one amazing open world ride. Although the engine is aging, AC3 looks stunning almost all of the time, especially during the naval missions. My only gripes revolve around it's lacklustre protagonist, it's occasionally sketchy combat mechanics and...it's bland, bland ending. If you think Mass Effect 3's was a letdown, wait till you see this brain fart! But at the end of the day, you're still left with one of the best titles of the year, and one that will be a thrill for anyone who appreciates a game that isn't riddled with the ADD swamped fury that our consoles have been plagued with a la FPS. First impressions of Assassin's Creed III is that it's amazing. It's beautiful. The intro although a bit too long lays the foundation for something epic. But that's about it story wise. And for a series that depends so heavily on a story, this is devastating for AC3. I spend the entire game waiting for that extra gear to kick in, for something to happen that takes this game to a new level. But it never happens. Instead we are served this rather bland and predictable story that doesn't really grabs a hold of you. There are no interesting plot twists. It's such a shame. What AC3 is missing is an overlook, something or someone to tie all the knots togheter. You have this beautiful setting but they could have made better use of it. The now famous naval missions are great but irrelevant for the story. There's a protagonist who's rather boring when he could have been so great if the writers would have just tried harder to mediate the feeling of "whatever I do I'm doomed" or something like that. A lot of elements in AC3 reminds me too much of the pointless collecting from AC1. A lot of stuff is utterly pointless in AC3. Collect various trinkets for no really useful reason. And the ending is horrible, a cliche unworthy the AC universe. Was this the best they could come up with? Expand

It is definitely a different AC. There are things that are so different that takes away the fun from it, but some of the differences also add to it as well. Whilst recruiting assassins is a little bit more tedious, they make made up for this fact by actually having a back-story. They do feel like real characters. Especially also the characters in the homestead and others that you interact with. There is definitely a lot more focus on making a more realistic feel to the story. The game-play is good as usual though the combat still repetitive. Expand

Assassin's Creed III, well I will start saying this is the most epic and most fun game in the hole franchise, I have them all and this has been the best. I'm really sad that Desmond is dead but I understood that they needed that in the story after 5 epic games they finished his story. There we're problems and some little things not very nice but people who gave a 0 rating on this game are stupid or ignorant, they can dislike the game but, have you seen all the work that ubisoft spent in this game? 3 years, 3 **** years and they made for this game the greatest thing. The animals, the fire weapons, the hidden blade as a knife, the bow (which I think it should been from the first game), climbing trees, getting into battlefield, 1,000 characters on screen, climatic changes (snow, breeze, rain, sunny days, etc), whole new combat system better than the others, enemies atack all at the same time, hunting, naval battles, and lots and lots more, even though it has it defects and I didn't like very much the ending for all the work I give it a ten and a recommendation for all to buy it. Finally, Assassin's Creed gets some renovation. After 2 COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY half-sequels, half-add-ons a full-scale part of the franchise is out. But does it live up to the expectations of the grand ending of the trilogy? Not quite. Firstly, the story. AC3 introduces a new era - American Revolution, and with it, a new character - Connor Kenway (who also has some long unpronounceable Indian name) The main plot is quite alright, with Ubisoft actually fulfilling the promise not to make the game pro-american. It's not, you have to fight against the patriots as well as the redcoats and the Founding Fathers aren't idealised at all, with George Washington himself being shown as a weak leader and a poor tactician. I personally don't have problems with the main character (and I certainly don't find him worse than the overrated Ezio Auditore), but one thing can't be denied - when compared to his own father (who serves as a secondary protagonist for like, 4 hours of gameplay), he lacks his charm and charisma. If Ubisoft decides to make another annual half-baked "sequel" (and they will, everyone loves money), they should definitely devote it to Haytham's backstory. However, as for the modern-age plot with Desmond struggling to save the world, things are not as bright. Desmond's missions are stupid and boring, and the ending is totally underwhelming, it's not an ending in fact, just an open gate for a sequel of some kind. I was hugely disappointed by that, since I liked Desmond's story before. Now to the technical part of the game. It looks just beautiful - AnvilNext provides some beautiful scenery, especially the Frontier. The protagonist's animations have been remade, and now just watching Connor climb the trees and jump over fences is a joy. The game suffered from some glitches in its 1.0 version, but that didn't ruin the game for me. Anyway, to the gameplay. It's still the AC gameplay you're all used to, no revolution here, sadly, just a few tweaks. Same lame "stealth", ending with you forced to go into an open fight 9 out of 10 times, basically the same combat system (with one change - you don't need going into the blocking stance to counter, so it's a bit faster and smoother) One welcome addition is the sea battles. Connor takes the role of the Captain of the Aquila, the Assassins' fleet flagship, and crosses the seas, fighting other vessels, while boarding some of them. One thing that I'd like to mention, is the soundtrack. Ubisoft somewhy didn't hire Jesper Kyd for it, so Lorne Balfe took his place. While the main theme is memorable, most other tunes are not, and that is a shame, since Jesper Kyd's music helped a lot to dive into the atmosphere of a particular age. To sum up, it's a good game, neither much better nor worse than AC2 in my opinion, mostly improving over its predecessor. One thing that it shows is that the franchise doesn't need to go Call-of-Duty-like annual. It's the first game in the franchise since AC2 that I actually enjoyed. Expand

Sadly, this is a game that just doesn't feel fresh. There isn't enough new or exciting in terms of gameplay to distinguish this from AC2 part 4. After playing all the Ezio games I was not only beginning to tire of the same old stuff gameplay wise, but also very disappointed in how unlikable Connor is, especially when compared to Ezio or even Haytham. I wish I could have played as Haytham for the entire game instead. I did play the game through to the end, which is saying something I guess, but I really have no desire to go back and try to complete more side missions or unlock or explore anything else. The ending also felt like a real let down. I remember almost crying at the end of Metal Gear 3 because of how beautiful it was. The ending of this game left me feeling empty and thinking "That's it?" Easily the game of the year, "Assassin's Creed 3" is a exciting, emotional roller-coaster of a game. The setting and storyline are compelling and the new main character, Conner, has a character arc that equals that of his predecessor in this series, the much-beloved Ezio. The gameplay is top-notch as well, with streamlined combat and free-running. Also, the naval combat (which was the element of I was most skeptical when reading about the game) is amazingly fun. Seriously, they could do an entire DLC of just naval mission and I would be happy.

The only things that stop this amazing game from receiving a 9 or 10 from me is the side games, economy, and rewards. In many of the places you go there is the option to play a board game with someone. These games are obscure, boring, and ultimately pointless as they don't really add much to the overall experience. The crafting and selling of goods is terribly cumbersome and takes far too long to get even one trading caravan on the road (a menu redesign for this element is all it would take for the next AC - the idea behind it is solid). The big problem I have with this game, however, is the fact that you have to subscribe to Uplay in order to get the extras that are promised in-game. I don't have a problem with wanting to make some extra money and all, but if you have a slot for Conner to have a new outfit in the $60 package I've paid for, shouldn't the outfit or weapon that goes there be unlockable in that package? I found that aspect to be the most troublesome of all.

These quibbles detract only slightly from the game, however. Assassin's Creed 3 is the game I hoped it would be and I look forward to seeing Conner take part in other events in American history. The war of 1812, perhaps?

Here is my review of the game, first the graphics, the graphics in this game are really detailed and beautiful, the character models and the environments are great and when you reach a highpoint, you will not want to go down just because you want to apprecciate the scenery, especially in the frontier, now the gameplay, this is your typical ac gameplay but with some cool tweaks, the controls have changed, now you counter with o or b in ps3 or xbox, you knwo have double counters and combos which feel great , it is also dual wielding , the combat if done right you can teke out large groups of enemies like a boss because of the dual wielding you can now kill cleanly and quickly, it also has a greater stelath feature with some new itmes like the bow or the rope dart, and some other new functions that meake the steakth easier and cooler, you also have hunting, where you can hunt animals and sell their pelts at a certain cost based on the way you killed the animal, which is really cool and interesting, you also have club challenges which are also fun to complete, the naval warfare is good, ot is fun and keeps the game fresh, and you can also upgrade your ship, all of the gameplay is a ton of fun, the only minor problem I had though was the crafting interface, at the beggining it was confusing as **** characters: the characters in this game are really likeable and well done, i almost cried when achilles and haytham died, connor for me is in par with ezio as a character and all of the characters are really deep and they make you care about them, at least for me, i wanted every memeber of the templar order to die , and at the same time i was worried of what would happen to connor and his companions throughout the story.
story, it is a direct sequel to assassins creed revelations you start the game as desmond where he and his friends find a crypt but then desmond starts to have allucinations and he eventually faints, i'm not going to say anymore to don't spil anything more than i did, but the story is so well done that i never wanted to stop playing, and i LITERALLY dodn't want too, if i had to pee i would say to myself **** IT!! i want to know what happens next.
Overall in MY opinion it is a 10 out of 10, it has some minor issues and bugs but i think it raises the bar so high that it doesn't deserved any pints of. Peace

Assassins meet Red Dead Redemption, Batman Arkham Asylum, Uncharted, and Skyrim. EXCELLENT game with some forgivable glitches. I was not a fan of the previous titles in this series. I played AC II and while I enjoyed it, I couldn't get into it. ACIII has me hooked however.

The open world format is incredible, and seeing Boston brought to life is absolutely amazing. I love the fact
that I can climb on buildings that are still standing today. The crafting is handled in one of the best ways I've seen yet. No more of this 'my character does it all' (fight/explore/blacksmith/leatherman, etc.), but rather, these things are managed by you but w/ a quite an explicable backdrop whereby you are recruiting others to do the work for you, while you're off saving the world. The free running through the forests and trees is phenomenal but this is where some of the glitches come to light. As I said, this is forgivable as one takes in how much the dev's accomplished with transferring the style to the forests, as if the cities weren't cool enough. Well done! The horseback riding is similar to Red Dead Redemption but doesn't flow quite as well especially over and around some of the rocky terrain.

But those are minor things for a game that has added some pretty phenomenal stuff to the mix. When I played Uncharted 2 and 3, I envisioned how cool a game like that would be with a Ninja or Assassin; now I have it. Excellent game world to lose yourself in for hours upon hours.

This game is... quite honestly this game is rather bad... this is coming from a guy who has quite a high tolerance level for glitches and just general bad gamedesign. I can stomach a glitch here and there, I can take unresponsive control, in Assassin's creed 2 and Brotherhood these existed as well and those are my favourite titles in the franchise by far... but this game just takes it to a whole new level, begging me to question wether Ubisoft really finished this game, and this is coming from someone who's played the game nearly half a year after it was released, and hearing the game was even buggier back when it hit the storeshelves! The story is a complete boring on-rails experience, woven into a mission system that almost seems afraid to let go of your hand out of fear of you getting hopelessly lost. This is coming out of personal preference but the colonial times are just not as appealing to me as renaisance Italy was, probably because I am european and I'm not too educated on american history I don't know but the setting, aside from the graphically amazing frontier, felt incredibly bland and most buildings seemed more like a copy paste job than anything else. The combat, while definitely fun on its own, is a case of don't fix what isn't broken, what was wrong with ACII's combat? The music, wherever it is present, is still amazing, Jesper Kyd's feel for making this series sound awsome is still very apparent in this title. But none of these things come even close to how utterly broken this game feels. free running is a disaster, i can't count how many times I have pressed forward on my controller and Connor ACTUALLY went backward! the mission constraint don't feel like bonus objectives at all, they take the fun out of the game for any completionist out there and in some missions they actually punish players for being thorough, such as some of the naval missions where having a fully upgraded ship actually makes achieving bonus objectives a complete and utter excercise in frustration. I have loved this franchise since day one, the pseudo-sci-fi backstory of Desmond aside, I adore the historical feel of these games, but the way I see it this game was a nail in the franchise's coffin. One final word of advice to Ubisoft, give us an ASSASSIN's creed! If I wanted to play an action adventure game I would go play God of war. Expand

Since Assassin's Creed 3 is the most ambitious AC, It is a disappointing title. However, It has some great additions, thankfully. Parkour is improved, allowing you to climb trees and, obviously, you can still climb building. The combat, love it or hate it, is fast and fun. It is changed, but It's still great. Playing stealthy It's faster here. Hunting is a good addition, too. The naval battles are fantastic in this game. But what Assassin's Creed 3 succeeds for, is the non-linear gameplay. Exploring is highly entertaining. The multiplayer is fun, with some unique modes. However, what's the problem that I gave it a 7. While the story is good, the main character, Connor, is dull. He is humorless and speakless, and he isn't that well-acted. The voice acting, is fine, but sometimes there's dialogue confusions. The Desmond's ending is downright terrible. Improved visuals, combat, and multiplayer are all a plus. But AC3 fails to deliver satisfying characters, or coherent story telling, and goes the way of another trilogy in delivering a horrendously contrived ending, that for some reason tossed to the side plot points of the past, leaving little more than unsatisfying ambiguity. As far as improved controls go (told via in game email that I wont run up random walls again) there are none, and get ready to love some random walls. I hope others are more satisfied with this game than I, as each person is suited to different aspects, but I like a good story, and the poor delivery killed it for me. Expand

The Assassin’s Creed formula of fighting and parkour is starting to get old, even with the ability to climb trees now. Maybe it’s the repetitiveness of the series, or maybe it’s just less interesting to toss crates of tea into the harbour than to hunt and kill corrupt bishops.
