I'm not usually a fan of video games that are very linear, but Dead Space 2 is the exception. If anyone were to get the full experience from this game they would need to play at night with very little lighting (apart from the television) and no company. The asthetics aren't the best, but they suit the game very well. Like most video games it doesn't have a very deep or expansive story, however it is definitely enough to keep you playing. This game will keep you engaged, adrenaline-pumping and on the edge of your seat. If you were ever considering playing it, do yourself a favour and buy it.… Expand

When i saw and played Dead Space 2, i noticed that it lost ( in not a big way but it did ) the fear factor. It focused more in the action and not in the genius way or creative to frightening my spine. The sequel is awesome, there is a lot of big improvement in the gameplay,graphics and the cool story. Extremely linear, extremely shallow, and extremely repetitive. You just walk down hallways and shoot things that run at you, and then wait for the door to open for the next area (and there are a ton of slow-opening doors in this game), then repeat. And despite what you may have heard, this game isn't challenging. Yes, you will die a lot, but only because it's so cheap. Most of my deaths were because I didn't know what was coming at me, or from where, and by the time I figured it out it was too late.... die and restart at checkpoint, and do it again... it's just trial and error. There is no strategy, no depth, and it's just the same thing over and over, and it's not scary in the least. After about 6 chapters of walking, shooting and waiting for doors to open, I turned it off from extreme boredom. This isn't a game; it's a ridiculously long tech demo with a story, like most of today's "video games". Rent it or forget it.… Expand

The only thing about this game that I wish could have been better now that I have beaten it, is the fact that most of the weapons are useless. Why offer so many weapons that serve no purpose. Plus you never get the chance to upgrade them all. The Contact Beam is nice, but it takes 10 seconds to charge it up. The Javelin Gun and the Ripper are by far the most useful.

Just finished the game on normal, in just over 12.5 hours. I loved the original, though not perfect it was a incredible experience that i had not had before apart from other linear shooters with jumpy bits like resident evil or silent hill, though it was in space, a most memorable experience. So...number two...was the story better, no, were the characters better or deeper, no. Were the floaty bits in space epic, no, in fact they were tedious parts where you carry out engineer activities, avoid flame and enemy fire. what they have essentially done is take all the best bits of the original that happened every now and then and just flooded the game with it. You need to stomp every enemy you come across, after a while it goes from cool to boring, 90% of enemy's are waiting for you, so you are very rarely unprepared so it is less jumpy. The game designers have death scenes for every enemy and due to their hard work they want you too see them all, and you will with instant death always around the corner. Most of the enemys you have seen before, but now they are placed in certain situations to be the most annoying for example you try to run away from a fast enemy hunting you but you can't as issac is very slow so you manage to evade only to be set upon by very small crawling enemys with slow you down upon contact and as you turn the corner you bump into an enemy who explodes upon contact killing you instantly, never did i seem to enjoy myself each corrior was a arse-ache experience, by chapter 5 i was bored, annoyed and wishing the story would pick up, ever did, all in all it was the same game as number one only the best bits were abundant so they became the norm and were not replaced by any decent surprises, its worth checking out but in truth the first was better, if u have not played the first get it as its cheaper and more enjoyable… Expand

coming from EA you never know what you are gona get . well EA did it again the first dead space game was a great game and the second is every bit as good if not better . the game is now more challenging (the first one even on impossable wasnt to hard) the game retains its creepy atmosphere and also improves on it very nicely . any one worried this game wasnt gona be scarry like the last one dont have to worry its even more so id say . the game feels as about as long as the first one now with zero load times in game . the graphics have been improved you have abunch of new and cool wepons . the final rig looks major bad ass. 1 small gripe is the story all be it intense doesnt really add much of any new info i was hoping to learn more about the marker as to why it was built and what its true purpose really is . the final boss battle is much more challanging then the first ones . in the first dead space the final boss was laughably easy even on impossable you could beat him with out being touched (he did look cool though) . the voice acting is well done ,though the guy who does isac just doesnt sound like the person to play him not that he's a bad voice actor or any thing just sounds too young and i think isac is suppose to be in his 40s. the online isnt any thing special but who cares i doubt any one got this or cared for a online ... well maybe a online co op would have been nice . there is a new varity of some cool enimys the children necro's being the most creepy . honestly having 15 necro kiddys jumping all over you as tearing you apart is some creepy **** . dead space 2 if you liked the first is a must buy .… Expand

I don't even know where to Start! The Lighting and Sound in Dead Space 2 are incredible. The graphics are great! the Story flows nicely and the game-play is intense! Playing on the Hardest Difficulty is not anywhere near impossible, but it adds a nice challenge and some strategic elements to conserving ammo and using health wisely. the replay value is pretty good too if you want to upgrade a different weapon. The multiplayer doesn't keep me interested ut single player does a good enough job of that. MUST PLAY!… Expand

Great sequal and, yes a GOTY contender already. The Metascore is a good one but this particular game deservs higher! Ther's definitely something strange going on with some the lower reviews. The Onion AV especially are a disgrace for giving it that mark especially when you consider they gave the first DS 83%, wtf. As for the user reviews? Well ther's always some strange people who just want to bring the average score down. Even if you don't like this type of genre to give such a polished game scores such as 0 is just moronic (yes you Deathsmiles ya clown). At least these people are in the minority but it annoys me 1 or 2 idiots can effect the overall score.
Ok rant over her's the review! Firstly, it's important to remember that DS1 was and still is a great game. It got so much right; the pitch perfect scares, ace controlls and especially the use of sound and graphics to create a nerve shredding atmosphere was as good as i've ever seen in a game. EA would be crazy to change the core mechanics too much and thankfully they havn't but they have added to it - The tense survival horror now blends seamlessly with action set pieces so well done they wouldn't look out of place in a Hollywood blockbuster. Games just don't come any more intense or exciting then this! The end result is something truly exceptional and fully cements Dead Space's position as this generations survival horror king. Here's a bold statement: Dead Space is the new King of the Survival Horror genre. After Resident Evil 5 turned out just so-so, and the last Silent Hill games failed, and after playing and then replaying Dead Space 2, I believe this bold statement to be true. Dead Space 2 continues the story of part 1's main protagonist, Isaac Clarke, who gets, unwittingly and amid confusion, thrown into the events which unfold in this 2nd episode of the series. The game gives you a vast array of weapons to dismember and decapitate the ruthless, bloodthirsty necromorph army. My best advice is to play this game on a large HD screen with the lights turned off, and your PS3 connected to a digital surround sound system or if you don't want to wake up your wife and kids and give them nightmares, then a high quality set of surround earphones. If you don't get even slightly scared with the above set-up, then I'm afraid you are possibly a freak who has become desensitised to violence and horror, and you probably need to have your head checked out by a shrink! lol. The games oozes with tense atmosphere and is complimented by great sound effects. The story takes twists and there are a few "shyte in the pants" moments, depending on how strong your rectal muscles are! Be warned, don't play this game in front of children or the squeamish. I also dabbled into the online multiplayer part of this game but found it underwhelming. I wouldn't recommend it as an alternative to other much more polished online shooting experiences such as Killzone 3 for example. All in all the single player game gets a huge, bloody and quivering thumbs up. the multiplayer needs a lot more work to hold my interest. I'll be getting DS3 when it arrives, for sure.… Expand

If the first was about horror and atmosphere, this one is more focused on action and set pieces which is not a bad thing at all considering how the bar was set by DS1. Plus, it comes with Extraction which makes it a really darn good deal.

Dead Space 2 is dark and sinister, and it doesn't care who it offends. this sequel has the hardcore in mind and the horror fan in mind. the first game is good. and if you missed it its ok, ds2 has you covered, they run through the story of the first one, just in case you never played it. the graphics are jaw dropping, and the suspense is perfect, while it may not be as scary as the first one, it surpasses it in every other way. the gameplay is tight the guns are great, and have alot of variety, and the enemies will not faulter, they will tear you apart, this game is difficult, its harder then ds1, and if your looking for a challenge give this game a whirl on zealot, its intense through and through. multiplayer is a treat too. you HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER i cant stress this enough there is no singular bad ass in ds2s multiplayer. if you dont work together you dont win. alot of people think the necromorphs are under powered, but there made to be that way. in order to stop the humans you have to be willing to throw endless lives at them to stop them. kill to death ratios mean nothing winning is everything. multiplayer for this is one of the best, and will keep you playing for weeks to come. buy this game, you wont be dissapointed.… Expand

Made it a through to Chapter 7 and the environments have improved, through the "church" areas especially, but then got a little repetitive with the "dorm" hallways. But getting disappointed that there still seems to be no sense of mission or purpose for progressing... ok I can accept Isaac whacking Necro's just for vengeance to a degree. But, where is Isaac going? What does he need to do? and most importantly, why? All of which were very evident in the DS1. Dianna, who is she? She was there, then suddenly.... This was a fun sequel. It definitely made me jump out of my seat a few times from certain surprises. An improvement in graphics, character development, and smoother user interface was a very good move. I really like the new creature "Stalkers". They have a very nifty way of attacking. I enjoy blasting windows out on the station and have space suck the necromorphs out. I love using impalement physic object.s I'm not to fond of multi-player (but then again I'm more of solo player). I don't know why the majority of surviving humans in the Dead Space are from the United Kingdom. Tiedemann(DS2) sounded just like Hammond(DS1) and Daina(DS2) sounded just like Daniels (DS1). Original Soundtrack was spectacular. This game was worth buying in my opinion for it's replay value.… Expand

Basically same game from the first one with some new features. Graphics are nice like the original. Sounds keep you on edge a bit. Longer you play this one less interesting it gets. No innovating ideas. But still has a cool game play menu. Enemies are unintelligent but I think that's EA's plan. The story is the ultimate downfall for this one because it feels like the same old story and Clark is getting nowhere fast. Bottom line is Dead Space 2 didn't live up to expectations which were set at a high standard. EA needs to break out something crazy or innovative if they want the 3rd installment to succeed. Dead Space 2 is as intense as the first yet it lacks the scare factor it had in Dead Space 1. What's new in DS2 is the multiplayer. The multiplayer in DS2 isn't much since it has only 1 game type (Objective type gameplay) and less then 10 maps but it still lasts as long as people return to play the multiplayer. The first Dead Space was scary, Dead Space 2 is even scarier. I was not aware of survivor horror games so DS was new to me. I will just say this; DS2 is the scariest game I have ever played and if you play the game at night with a 7.1 AVR system, you will soil yourself! The visual quality is awesome, the ambiences throughout each level is stunning and really makes it feel you are there. The game is hard as heck, especially on Zealot mode. I was actually trembling during chapter 14, it is that intense. The final boss is a pain and will strain your sanity if you do not have enough ammo or the right gun set up. Buy the game. It is great. Oh, the MP is fun but takes a while to get use to. Need a squad of buddies and it will be fun. Keep in mind, many do not play MP so you will have to sit and wait to get a game going.… Expand

I have to say that I was a fan of the first Dead Space. While the story was a bit generic, the game played beautifully. What Dead Space 2 brings is more great gameplay and a highly developed world in which the story takes place. I never thought the Dead Space games were so much scary as they were startling. It's not the type of horror game that makes you afraid to open a door because of what might be on the other side, rather it shoves disturbing and gory imagery in your face. Its more Hostel than Paranormal Activity, but I honestly don't mind. I love this game because of the fun gameplay and immersive atmosphere. It also does a good job a creating tense moments, which I find good for horror games. I don't really care about the multiplayer aspect of the game, plus I can't even find a match for some reason. Plus, the PS3 version comes with Dead Space: Extraction, which is pretty fun although a bit awkward using a regular controller. I recommend this game to anyone who played Dead Space or anyone into action games who doesn't mind the gore.… Expand

I actually had some trouble getting into Dead Space 2, but once I got into it I was hooked straight. Areas look nice and story is pretty good. Only real problem I have is during my hardcore play. Which is the absolutely worst time for any of these to happen. I've ran into glitches and bugs where it could potentially ruin your save. I've also fallen through the map a few times as well. It's been over a year since this game was released, and I got this on midnight launch. I am a hardcore fan of the Dead Space series so I wanted to nostalgia of playing Dead Space 2 die down before i wrote a review. When i first played it, i couldn't stop raving about it. It seemed perfect, but now i look at it again and i do see some faults to it. EA listened to the community after the first Dead Space and tried to fix some of the problems of the first game. Isaac now has a voice, he is disturbed by the thoughts of what happened on the Ishimura, but mostly of his deceased girlfriend, Nicole. Hearing him talk makes Isaac a more likable character, you now know why he is doing what he is doing and hearing what he is feeling. Combat is much improved, but more badass weapons in taking out necromorphs and Isaac can now "fly" around in space with thrusters on his boots. The game takes place on a space colony called Sprawl, meaning the badies can now take the form of children and more complex types of enemies. All of that makes the game feel more complex and the addition of Isaacs voice makes for a better story and more emotional connection to things, but after it all the scare factor is almost game. Dead Space was scary, which made it so much fun, but its sequel tries to ake the player feel more powerful with more weapons and Isaac feel like a badass, meaning less time feeling scared and more time feeling powerful enough to take the whole Sprawl on. That is why i can't give this game a 10 even though i love it so much and it honestly takes everything I had a problem with in the first game and fixes it, i didn't get scared and it didn't feel like the same game. It's a great game, and as a Dead Space title i love it and other fans of the series should too, but it just isnt as scary so that might be a downer for some. There is also multiplayer, but getting on today is near impossible on PS3 and even then it feels like an afterthought. Playing as a necromorph is cool, but it can get repeditive fast and sometimes the human side can get too overpowered and playing as a necromorph then is just no fun. As an entire package, just the single player alone is amazing but not as scary, the multiplayer is fun but is hard to find and if you do those playing it will be overpowering. I love Dead Space 2, I just hope they can make the next one more frightening.… Expand

While the campaign was well polished, challenging, and still fun; it's still just an elaboration on Dead Space 1. Really nothing new and creative from a game play standpoint here, so if you played the first one to death, you might find the campaign a bit been there done that. If you still enjoy the first one though, the new Necromorphs, weapons, and environments add some new flavors to the mix.

My hat is off to the developers and producers. Dead space 2 goes above and beyond the original game in every way. Its atmosphere, scope, storytelling, and user interaction are all flawless. Visceral Games is on fire with this title and i especially give a nod to the team developing the multiplayer experience. great work all around. my only complaint is the difficulty in the game. any gamer capable of keeping a cool head and fire accurately is going to find the default difficulty WAY too easy. The first game suffered from this as well. While its not a major gripe, i feel the lower difficulty takes away from the horror at times. Thankfully the harder settings are ready to go from the start. On a positive note, Visceral did a great job in giving the player a reason to use the collection of weapons they made. In the first Dead Space, the plasma cutter is by far the most powerful weapon and competitive players disregarded the other weapons, selling off other ammo in favor of power nodes and plasma rounds. However, by diversifying enemy types and weaknesses they have given the player viable alternatives which diversifies gameplay and lets the player have a reason to use the otherwise ignored weapons. (which are all very flavorful and very well designed.) great job. definitely a must have. 9/10… Expand

Dead Space 2 has been with us for a week or so now and in that time I've now managed to play-through twice. We continue Isaac's story three years after the original game, This time instead of being set on a spaceship DS2 is set in a huge space colony / city called Sprawl on one of Saturn's moons, It's here where we catch up with Isaac as he wakes from a daydream to find himself bound in a straitjacket and suffering from nightmarish hallucinations of his dead girlfriend. The Original Dead Space wasn't hyped as much as this sequel, and as a result it almost slipped under the radar for a lot of gamers, but for those of us who played the first game it became a game to remember for many reasons but mainly because it was full of edge of the seat action and suspense that would scare the pants of you, even when you had that knowing feeling that something was going to happen you'd still jump when it did, and the impressive highly detailed Zero-G sections that were unlike anything scene before and the unforgiving enemies, Dead Space 2 has all of this and more by the bucket load, with more zero g sections, a bigger necromorph invasion force, this time with added necromorph types that include hideous featureless childlike creatures with pointed limbs who attack you in packs, crawling baby like necromorphs who explode when they are near you, then there's the Puker's, who are similar to Left 4 Dead's Boomers (albeit a lot trimmer), but instead of spewing bile at you the Puker's spew acid from a distance accompanied with a blood-curdling scream. Isaac does have a bit more help this time round though in the form of new weapons which include a detonator gun that fires a tri-beamed laser which explodes when touched, and a Javelin Gun, a high-powered spear-gun like weapon that lets you fire bolts at enemies and impale them onto nearby crates or walls, and of course there's the old favorites from the original game such as the line-cutter, the ripper and the flamethrower, all of which can be upgraded along with your rig and stasis modules at workbenches throughout the game by using power nodes collected on your travels. There's no HUD as such in Dead Space 2, the screen is left quite clear while in combat, this is partly to allow you to have a clear view of your surroundings and partly so that anything remotely scary still has the full impact of scaring the crap out of you, add to this one of the best in-game atmospheres there is with its outstanding graphics that this time round see more of those superbly crafted zero-gravity sections where Isaac is free to float around with the aid of little rockets and the almost perfect sound effects that have you wondering if that was a bit of trash moving behind you or a necromorph creeping up on you, this all makes for a truly immersive experience and that keeps you on your toes at all times, so much so that you'll be grateful of those save points after a while so that you can take a breather (and turn the lights on if it's getting dark outside) Dead Space made great use of the Kinesis ability in Isaac's suit which allowed him to pick up objects and either move them out of the way or fire them at enemies and objects, this system has now been greatly improved and made more responsive, so much so that it will now become part of your combat technique, and as with the original game ammo is in short supply so you may find yourself having to use Kinesis to pick up a severed limb and fire it at an approaching enemy, you'll also use Kinesis and Stasis to manipulate objects to solve puzzles in order to progress through the game. Unlike it's predecessor Dead Space 2 has an eight player multiplayer mode in which 2 teams of four try to complete their objective, namely four human engineers try to achieve their goal while four necromorphs try to stop them (think of L4D but in space and you've got the idea), As with most online games if you're in a party or lobby with a good bunch of players then the multiplayer can be a lot of fun. In Summary Dead Space 2 has been vastly improved over the original game, with everything from the environments and sounds being tweaked so that the game pulls you in and completely immerses you, almost every aspect of game play has improved, and when you combine that with an engrossing storyline then you're in for a good time, Well, unless you suffer from a nervous disposition, in which case I'd recommend you don't play through while on your own… Expand

For PS3 this is one of the best game values since "The Orange Box" I found the game for $40, and for that I get 2 full fledged single player games, (Also including Extraction) and a rather fun multiplayer to play with my friends! My only negative responses to this game is that it's not nearly as scary as the first one, and the multiplayer unlocks are rather flat in comparison to other like BFBC2 and Call of Duty. But the game is focused around the single player experience which is phenomenal, *SPOILER*it gets really creepy when you return to the Ishumura *SPOILER* and the story is a lot stronger this time around. It gets a personal 9.5/10 but since you only can score the game with whole numbers it's a 9/10, I recommend that you pick up your copy right this instant!… Expand

Ottimo lavoro fatto quello dei visceral che si confermano software house di riferimento.
Il gameplay la grafica ed il sonoro ben fatti vi terranno compagnia e con il fiato sospeso per circa 11 ore di gioco nella modalità più difficile se giocate con calma e vi fermerete ad osservare gli scorci di paesaggi spaziali a gravità zero (davvero suggestivi).
La storia è ben fatta ed accompagna bene gli eventi narrati con qualche piccolo effetto scriptato che non risulta mai eccessivo Si tratta di un discorso personale ma preferivo nel primo episodio dove il personaggio principale non parlava proprio. Se ci fossero stati eventi o bivi dove poter decidere qualcosa o cambiare parzialmente la vicenda sarebbe stato sicuramente un capolavoro.

Deep mind game with great control and awesome gameplay. This game just doesn't let up on the scare and creepy factor...has you on edge. Multiplayer is also a blast! Control and gameplay very easy to get used too.

I have never been so utterly disappointed in a game that I have felt the compulsion to tell people about it. Its not like its a bad game, but it is a massive let down. it's just not a great game and I seriously disagree with the ludicrously high rating that it has received, I would humbly suggest to anyone thinking about buying this game, to rent or pirate. As I said, not a bad game at all, the graphics are very good, despite a rather unimaginative array of cookie cutter enemies, but there has to be more to a game than that?! I feel as though, after the first game, with its intriguing narrative and voiceless, faceless protagonist, that dead space 2 throws away a massive opportunity to explore what has become a rich gaming world. the story in the second game is just boring, there is no other way of putting it. by about a quarter of the way through the game I completely gave up caring what was happening and ground through to the end hoping to find some redemption. Alas, none came, what could have been a sophisticated and well thought out survival horror game, what we have is gears of war with less homo-eroticism and wall hugging. BLAH! - don't buy… Expand

Overall, Dead Space 2 is a very good game. I found it more enjoyable than the first game, which I felt got repetitive. DS2 offers more varied environments and is just more fun to play than the first. Some parts are a bit tough, especially towards the end of the game. I wouldn't call it scary, although it is full of gore. The story keeps you interested enough to keep going. Definitely recommend picking it up if you had any interest in the first one. Also, if you can still find the PS3 version with Dead Space Extraction, that's a great pack-in and a good prequel to the Dead Space series.… Expand

I am really sad that this wasn't a better experience for me. I loved the first Dead Space and this new one is story- and audio-wise excellent, a very good game BUT as I reached the last half of the game, bad things started happening. I don't consider this a spoiler as it mostly concerns gameplay, because there are points in the game where the player is not given a way to acquire new ammo for the next room, which in the end of the game will pack huge numbers of necromorphs. I encountered numerous episodes where I had to retry the same room more than 20 times because I had no ammo and no way to get more of it (same goes for health). I had to make strategies for how to hit the single enemy and use its limbs to kill the others and they attack from all around you so that you have no chance of adapting to the situation, it is simply pure stress and not in the scary way of the first game, you just get angry and want to throw something at the Tv! I haven't seen a lot of other people complain about the level design the way I'm doing here, but I really hope that I'm not the only one, because I've been playing on Survivalist (medium-hard) and in the end of the game I had to go down to Normal mode in order to defeat the final encounter. I have been using stasis, kinesis and conserved my ammo (and bought lots of it at the store) and still I did not have a chance most of the time. So the first part of the game was really great but I think Visceral Games should consider patching the game with some additions to the levels the way studios do with MMORPG's because I can't see how I would ever be able to complete the game on Hardcore if this happens again. I like the game and the way it is designed most of the time, but from chapter 10 and to the end it simply feels like they skipped polishing it and sent out the alpha-code of the game. I will still say that it is a good game that deserves to be played but unless I'm just extremely unlucky when no ammo drops and I get attacked simultaneously by 15 zombies with razor-sharp arms, exploding bodies and gooey stuff in the mouths, I would advice people to play on Normal the first time, just to resist getting too angry. I'm going to start a New game+ and see if it gets easier for me this time around with all the weapons and suits upgraded from the beginning.… Expand

Atmospheric is the word I use to describe this game.A worthy sequel really.The audio is particulary excellent,as well as the graphics.The gameplay and story are pretty average,but the world draws you in so you won't care at all.Buy it,be scared for a week,then trade it.

Smoother graphics and animations than the first one, so go to Sprawl to kill, to earn and to find some money to upgrade your suit's and weapons' rig as the first one. With your powerful suit and weapons your next surviving in the next dead space "station" (not in dead space) will be easier. But still real fun come's if you will challenge yourself through playing game night time with lights off and Dolby sound...(Also, stock up with the drugs for dysentery and in advance make appointment with a psychologist. )… Expand

This game is amazing on the PS 3. First of all nobody really mention the load times. The only time there are load times is when you die. In between each chapters that are none and it's an free flowing action just like God of War 3. Second the original gameplay is back expect there are a few times you gotta think smart or else you won't survive. As far as Hardcore mode it's the best thing out there for consoles right now (Even the PC too). I am saying is if you beaten it you get a nifty reward. Again it makes it worth while playing it again and again. As far as Multiplayer it's icing on the cake. I'd say get the game, get the DLC and if you have the Limited edition your ready for the full experience.… Expand

Best horror game of the year and the current generation of gaming. A very satisfying story packed with terrifying monsters and scares. Gameplay is tip-top and solid. Online play is addictive, creative and lots of fun. Worth every penny.

Dead Space 2 is a fantastic game. It takes all that was done so well in Dead Space and evolves it to perfection. This game was a lot harder than Dead Space. There were more attacks from different directions instead of all in front of you. The set pieces for many of the magnificent action scenes were perfect. The graphics are very detailed and a lot better than the first game. The sound was phenomenal and alone peaked the tension. The controls are more refined and makes controlling Isaac a joy. I was very happy with the story and how they added to the overall story. Isaac's inner-fighting was done very well, probably the best in any game. I truly felt bad for him. The weapons were great and it was nice to see the weapons from DS1 since it immerses you in the universe. The weapons shouldn't change but have additions that the Ishimura didn't have. I was very happy with the ending and very proud to have beat this game. The ending sequence was a mad dash and probably the hardest part of the game rightfully so. I am highly anticipating the DLC Severed and looking forward to Dead Space 3. I haven't played the multiplayer so I cannot comment on that. An excellent game that shouldn't be missed.… Expand

I really enjoyed playing through Dead Space 2. If you were a fan of the first, I see no reason why you wouldn't like the sequel. The difficulty is ramped up a bit, but it's challenging, not cheap so it's quite satisfying. The only thing I would say that is a bit on the cheap side is when some enemies spawn, they spawn from the front and behind you, so you're kinda forced to take a hit from one direction. Luckily one hit isn't going to kill you unless your health is low. The multiplayer is quite fun as well, especially when you're on the necromorph side. All in all it's a great second outing for a great new franchise. I hope Dead Space 3 is on the horizon.… Expand

Rarely does a sequel live up to the hype it is surrounded by, and they barely ever surpass the original. Whether DS2 does the latter is debatable, but it easily lives up to the hype, and matches the original in many key areas. The story first then, is beautifully pitched, giving a perfect mix of action, and pure terror, as you think you have cleared a room, only to turn around to collect the contents of a crate you saw before dispatching of a good number of necromorphs, only too see a raging mutant screaming towards you, arms flailing, looking you rip you a new one, before dismembering it, and stamping on its twitching corpse to a wholly satisfying crunch/gush, as the bones shatter and the blood flows freely onto the floor all around. The Sound is truly noteworthy, whilst we are on that subject, whether it be silence, or the screech of a necromorph bursting out of an air vent, one extreme to the other, it can really have you cursing yourself for the stain now gracing the inside of your underwear. The atmosphere that the music and the lighting can throw up is just so immersive, it draws you right in, then throws a colossal boss at you, that you will surely fail to kill at the first attempt, not because it is hard to kill, because most of the bosses in the game are fairly easy, buy because you will have recoiled so much from the shock that the boss has caused you, that you simply wont be able to get back to the game in time. The single player has the addition of the mini-game style zero gravity, and the return of the hacking of control terminals, which can sometimes provide a very welcome break from the terror of the main gameplay. I loved Dead Space. Dead Space 2 takes it to another level. Isaac Clarkes Journey through The Sprawl is Thrilling and captivating. The lighting, music, story, and pacing of the game could not have been better, and to give the game less than 9 is simply blasphemy. What i missed in this game is puzzles. To stop, calm down, and use your brain a little would have given the player a moment to think about what the past level has revealed in terms of the story, and what upgrades would be best to choose to really give those necromorphs a hard time. Bought this game at release, and just replayed it and thought I would review it. I don't understand the people that do not like this game, this game is the best survival horror along with Dead Space 1 for this generation of gaming. It's funny how I read a guys review on here he gave it a bad review saying that it's the same game as the 1st one, but I went into his profile and he rates CoD Modern Warfare 3 a 10? Call of Duty sucks balls and people are manipulated by the micheal bay syle campaign.It sucks and is for casuals anyway.... Dead Space deserves a good score, you can tell they worked their asses off on this game. I do not like EA but this game is an exception. This IS a unique game because you can't just shoot an enemy normally, you have to shoot off it's limbs so they die. I don't care what anyone says because this game is scary, don't tell me that you never jumped or twitched at all in this game, unless you had the sound off. Play this game alone with the lights off. If you jumped then that means you were scared, don't give me any B.S.... The game has a lot of replay value so it's an automatic success considering most games these days are a play once then forget about it. Yes the were more action oriented in this game,but the game stuck to it's roots and still felt like more of a horror game. You still got to play alone and fight things alone,You do end up meeting up with people but only for like 2 secs. The death animations were awesome and monters are pretty cool. One thing I didn't like about this game was when you got close to the end of the game from chapter 10 and up, the game started getting cheap, the first 10 chapters enemies wouldn't appear behind you, but in the last 3 or 4 chapters you would be walking along and an enemy would spawn right behind you and it's hard to figure out where the enemy is comming from, plus I never play my games on easy or normal I play always on hard. Well I played on Zealot and these parts were the only parts I constantly died at. The last boss wasn't as fun as the last boss in Dead Space 1, but the way the story was in the second game made it to be the perfect way to end the game. The game has no loading and has short ingame cutscenes which is amazing, you never get distracted. The graphics are nice and the controls are pretty good. The weapons are cool, but on Zealot I just used a fully upgraded plasma cutter and no other weapons were nessessary, although other weapons are fun to use. Yes the game is linear but this type of game was meant to be linear, it's like a 3rd person corridor shooter. Frankly if this game wasn't linear it probably wouldn't be as good because the game wouldn't be pacing properly. People have to realize that linear doesn't really mean bad, it's just that some devs make horrible linear games. Visceral (Dead Space) did it right. The story is also unique and fun,you never quite no what's going on until things become revealed to you. The people who voted negative on this game need to put down Call of Duty and appreciate a work of art such as this, because this franchise is the last hope for the horror genre, because Resident Evil is not horror anymore and never really was because it never made me jump and I played all of them. Silent Hill feels outdated but still has really creepy elements to it atleast, Silent Hill was always more scary than Resident Evil.But Dead Space just feels good..Good story,Good Controls,Good Scares,Good third person shooter,Good detail, Good game. I hope Dead Space 3 continues to WOW it's real fans, and I sure as hell hope they do not go the Route of Resident Evil. Dead Space was one of my favorite games of this generation - horror action/adventure with great atmosphere and fantastic level design. Although there wasn't much of a story, the characters were quite good and I happily played it over and over until I'd platinumed it.

Dead Space 2 was quite a disappointment. It's a linear shooter - go down the hallway, get to the room, shoot the necromorphs, repeat a couple hundred times. The level design couldn't hold a candle to the first game, and the story was nothing but back-story which was slowly revealed to you over the course of the game. None of it had any effect whatsoever on the actual gameplay. It seems that they abandoned the whole action/adventure genre in favor of trying to copy Call of Duty's shooting gallery gameplay. I found it uninteresting, uninvolved, and a very disappointing follow up to one of my favorite games of all time.… Expand

I wasn't a big survival horror fan, but when I heard of Dead Space I gave it a shot. Absolutely feel in love with the first game.

What Dead Space 2 offers is a much more fast paced, action based game. Yes, there still are those scary moments that let you know that it's still a survival horror game, but there is a lot more action sequences in this one. The control scheme is very much improved from the first game, and just when you think zero gravity couldn't get better, it does.

Please do not shout at me for not giving it a perfect score. I don't throw 10s at games just because I like it. Did I enjoy play dead space 2? Definitely! I never get scared when watching a horror movie, but horror games always scare the **** out of me. (weird huh?) Needless to say, this game made me jump up from the chair at least 5 times! It is both scary and addicting. The graphics are decent enough to make you believe and the story is standard-but-interesting, it serves well to create that dread atmosphere. Music/Sound is the most important aspect of a horror movie/game to me, and DS2 did not disappoint here. Loved everything about it from start to finish each time I played through it. The story was just as interesting as the first (especially if you read/listen to all the logs). If you buy it for the multiplayer, you bought it for the wrong reason.

I love good scripts. I am the kind of person that loves a well written story, however Dead Space 2 does not qualify as one. The game makes up for its strong action and sudden often expected scares, and a mediocre online feature that feels the same every time. The game is great, yes it is! (Trust me) I am a Dead Space fan and the game is amazing and most definitely has its "wow " moments, (especially in HD). The story is what killed it for me a bit, but otherwise it is a good refreshing game, that literally makes you run if you don't have bullets or any health regens. I give the game a solid 7, although I want to give that 8, but it just isn't there yet. Something was missed. The game features a great soundtrack, mediocre story (falls short, I clocked 8 hours - Zealot), good action and scares make up for it. A truly satisfying game. Terrifying, frantic, gory - just spectacular. To be honest, I don't think that people with an existing heart condition should play it - I know my heart stopped on more than one occasion. Apart from it's fear factor, Dead Space 2 has characters you really care about. Issac is humble, brave and loyal and he felt real to me - well as real as any movie hero has felt to me. Dead Space 2, on the surface, appears to be more of the same. After the hard slog through Dead Space one that was more a shoot-em-up to the extreme of ammo conservation, it seems Dead Space 2 will be the same. But instead... Dead Space 2 features a number of sequences that are less shoot 'em up and more a little different. Now, there's plenty of shoot 'em up and the new design structure seems about less spawns, most of the time, less ammo, and more intense fights with less enemies. Those enemies that are more swarmy are fully intended to be so; easily killed by the pulse rifle in a few hits. Overall, the game is more intense and better pace than the original, with a smaller body count but a much more fulfilling one. Story is better told and paced, along with thank the lords, the protagonist gaining a personality and soul. Silent Protagonist is a boring, out of place thing on a character with a defined look and name; you can't place yourself in the role anyways, so why make them silent? It's an old throwback. Beyond the digression, some of the new guns are fun editions, and nearly all the new enemies are worthwhile additions. The Rams definitely make for some unique and frightening sequences. I loved the game, enough to give it a twice over. Kinda wish it had a harder difficulty than Zealot you could take your pimped out game completion character onto to keep progressing!… Expand

The first Dead Space game left me hungry for more action, Dead Space 2 is a fantastic sequel, although there is no real creativity as most of what Dead Space had this has too, the excellent environments you battle through and the intense action and adrenaline pumping scenes create a new experience. Graphics have received a clean up too, for me the audio is 100% excellent, some points of the game left me having to break for a while, in fear of it coming true! Online Dead Space 2 needs a bit of a tidy up, having said that it's really fun playing as the humans just a little too hard being the monsters. 10/10 Can't wait for 3!… Expand

A highly worthy successor to Dead Space, but (this should go without saying) if you did not enjoy the original, the sequel probably won't win you over. Movement is much smoother, scene transition is more fluid, and the overall story arc progresses at a consistent pace. The only aspect that remains irritatingly clunky is performing a 180-degree turn, which unwittingly enhances frustration at the same pace it tries to increase panic. I'd have liked to see more new monsters, but as the overall antagonist of the game is largely the same force, I don't hold too much of a grudge. Minor complaints aside, every single thing about the original has been improved (aside from the Marker's monster repertoire, which has inexplicably decreased) and I had a great time playing it. If you enjoyed Dead Space, this installment is a must have.… Expand

Loved the entire game. However the multiplayer started great and then came the frustrating rape teams that couldn't even let you breathe for two seconds before tearing you apart. Still I have to admit it was a great start for a multiplayer design from Dead Space.

The game is just like the first with not much new, the worst thing is the hack change, it's just so buggy, makes it from a 7 to a 1, how do they let this crap get in games, there's nothing fun about it.

Fantastic game with top notch production values. Everything about this game is amazing, just like the original. A little bit linear at times, and no back tracking, but a very good game none the less. Multplayer is not for me, hope they skip multiplayer completely and focus their resources on the story mode for the sequel. A must buy for any fan of survival horror.

ever since i first stepped onboard the usg Ishimura i knew that dead space was a great game filled with lots of thrills and intense atmosphere along with a great game. Then dead space 2 was announced and I flipped and what seemed like an eternity the, game was finally released and then i played it and here is my review. Dead space 2 puts you back in the boots of isaac clarke but this game there is something worse going on the necromorphs are back and wont go down with out a fight. the gameplay is fairly similar than last time its till the stragetic dismemberment that was in the first game which made dead space2 so compelling. The story will have you on the edge of your feet as you try to hold your sanity together and try to get your ex(nicole) out of your head that appears in hallucinations. now that ive given you a little bit of the story without spoiling too much. Now to the multiplayer. lets just put it this way its good its nothing perfect but it gets the job done. if you like the left 4 deads multiplayer then youll like this one .so if your a big fan of the original then i strongly agree you pick this up. dead space2 recieves a 9/10… Expand

Both games were tense and innovative, but neither was scary in the slightest. Oh, and the multiplayer isn't interesting. Now that we have my biggest concerns with the game out of the way, let's get on to the good things, shall we? Dead Space 2 is phenomenal. It's an experience that's even grander than the first Dead Space game. Why? Shooting mechanics have improved, sound design has improved (Isaac talks now), the objectives aren't as linear and repetitive, and punching and stomping are generally much easier. I noticed in this installment (perhaps it's just me) that money and ammo come around much easier, ruining some of the survival horror atmosphere. Indeed, the only genuinely hard part of this game was the final chapter. Killing necromorphs is still just as satisfying, and the chapter where you return to the Ishimura is the closest the Dead Space series has come to terrifying me. The storyline flows nicely as well, and it has a much needed and satisfying conclusion. If you buy this game, you are doing yourself a good deed. It's downright good.… Expand

This game is a lot of fun! Lots of scary bits, great gameplay, gadgets and weapons to play with, so many ways to fights those terrifying monsters in space, excellent stuff.

And if you enjoyed the story of the first game, this one is much better still and expands well on it, with some interesting characters and a good atmosphere. I simply can't fault this, it never gets boring and is very addictive. And the trophies are are a great challenge as well, but not impossible. This is definitely one for EA to be proud of. I hope to see another sequel. One of this years best games easily.… Expand

I give it a 9.0 out of 10 because the multiplayer is not so good.
The single player though is fantastic.The level design is pretty good,bringing in something new in every single level you play.The monsters attack you when you don't expect them to,which makes the whole mood of the game even more creepy and scary.The dark halls also act the same.Ammo and credits are not hard to find if you search the environment.The story in my opinion is good and deep,makes you feel sorry for Isaac when something bad happens.
The multiplayer on the other hand is an afterthought,not even going to talk about it.
I am not very keen on 3rd person horror-shooters but this one is a must-buy.… Expand

One of the best games this gen... Truly underrated, the story is amazing and the gameplay is top notch, i dont get why som people hate it, its just an amazing game.

Dead Space 2 has big shoes to fill to be a better game than the first, but it definately filled them and more! This game looked better sounded better and even played better than the first with bigger and more exciting levels and set pieces. The first game is great but this one is even better! The game is still just as scary as the first and I woudl recommend to any horror fan!

Wow! Let me start off by saying this is an amazing game. great set pieces, I love the science atmosphere, I don't believe there is enough of this in games. Loved the attention to detail like seeing water particles in zero-g's. Im a fan of body dismemberment, which i also dont think there is enough of in games, and I love horror, which this one did a lot better job at than the first. This game can be somewhat difficult at times, but that wasn't an issue for me. The designs could become somewhat repetitive. I dont know, It kinda of reminded me of uncharted with some of the set pieces, but in space. I loved this game from beginning to the very end. Lighting was amazing, so was sound, and story started really good, but became distracted into something else which was decent.… Expand

Dead Space 2 is a big improvement over the first one, which is saying a lot because the original Dead Space was amazing. Most people are saying that in #2 they lost the "horror" and went more action, that is not the case at all. Do not compare this game to Resident Evil 5 who did just that, this game very well keeps its roots in the "horror" aspect the controls are smooth and graphics are sharp the scares are tense, and combat is fluid and works well. I recommend playing this game with all lights off and some good headphones, lots of tense moments in this game… Expand

Dead Space 2 doesn't bring with it the same sense of experiencing something utterly new and innovative that its predecessor did. But it's nonetheless a terrific game, with a campaign that simultaneously leaves you satisfied and eager for more. This is survival horror game but this is not so scary. There are only few good scares and few places with scary and dark atmosphere. But this is still a very good game.… Expand

Predictable, repetitive, boring. I couldn't play it for more than about 30 minutes at a time. Seems very rushed toward the end with nothing but the same 4 or 5 generic enemies only thrown at you in greater number. Stay away from this one. Nothing innovative or exciting here. The story is the only slightly redeeming factor, but in the end, the repetitive gameplay and lackluster enemies drove me away from even finishing the story.… Expand

My first platinum trophy. Dead Space 2 is my second favorite survival horror game this gen, has my favorite male character of all time: Space Engineer Isaac Clarke. And the most badass weapon this gen...a foam finger that blows s@*# up. DS2 nails the atmosphere flawlessly with great sound effects, audio logs, text logs and beautiful environments and throws you in hell much more worse than in the first one. DS2 doesn't have big improvements over the first, but lots of small ones. There are a handful amount of characters and all their performances all top notch. Clarke be praised. The story itself is one depressive yet epic trip through the head of Isaac. This game had lot: ''Is this game scary?'' questions. On easier difficulties. No it's not. But if you play it on Survivalist or Zealot on your first or second run (Zealot without new game+). Oohhh you'll get brutalized, you'll feel the intensity and sometimes you'll feel hopeless. And there is a Hard Core mode. 3 Saves, No new game+, Survivalist/Zeolot mix, low ammo and med packs. And if you die, you'll go back to your last save.
DS2 it's single player has a high replay value like old school Resident Evil. With that I mean: Speedruns, X weapon only, No med packs, etc.. This game is just awesome. It has action and horror and survival on the higher difficulties And DS2 pulls off the combination perfectly. It had me in a chokehold from start to finish, and I watend more. And a game like that deserves a good score. Oh, multiplayer is fun with friends for a bit. But yeah... in DS2 the single player matters the most.
Love it with every cel of my body. A great update of the first one. Isaac really needs a shot to redeem himself from DS3, for real.

I bought this game wanting a horror experience, I wanted to be scared, to be thrilled. Surprisingly the game lacked in both. I was bored through the majority of the game, at first I was slightly nervous at what kind of scares they would throw at me, but there just aren't any good ones. The only times I felt scared... or thrilled I should say, is during some boss battles, but even then, if I died the game would just reload to an autosave 30 seconds earlier. It was a dull experience throughout, it was probably more frustrating than scary, due to the fact that some areas are so dark, that you can't even see the enemies attacking you, it didn't scare me it just pissed me off.… Expand

Dead Space 2 stays true to it’s roots in this sequel, building on some solid foundations and adding a few nice touches. However the awe and wonder which it’s predecessor struck in the heart of the player has gone. Whereby you knew your ship inside out and how it was all interconnected in “Dead Space”, powering on the Engines, restoring oxygen in Hydroponics, powering back on the communicatmmunications array… You now traverse from room to room on The Sprawl and feel like the developer is trying to show you cool and interesting things rather than them existing naturally. You go from an amazingly built Church of Unitology to a kindergarden to a life support generator which makes you wonder… “Who would build these next to eachother?”

Because of this seemingly poor level design structure you get off the Sprawl without any sense of real achievement. You didn’t really power back on anything, the developer did. Going from epic scene to bossfight is great if you can also believe the world you are in. Ultimately, “Dead Space 2″ is overshadowed by it’s predacessor and has lost the immersion that it once had. The best part of “Dead Space 2″ wasn’t flying through space or shooting 100 monster-children in the Church, it was when you returned briefly for 1 of the 15 chapters to the location of the first game and you remembered how amazing it was to be once onboard the famous USG Ishimura.
