Disgaea 4 is a noteworthy edition to the popular strategy RPG series because it adds so much new content without destroying the familiar gameplay that fans have grown to love.
If you feel like the best games are those that involve combing though menus, analyzing stats, and carefully plotting out hour-long battles, then Disgaea 4 is quite simply a can't-miss title.
This was my first game in the Disgaea franchise and is my favorite. The enjoyable crazy story, dark humor, quirky characters and excellent gameplay won me over. To give you an overview over the Disgaea franchise: The Disgaea series are strategy RPGs with unique characters, dark humor and endless possibilities to improve your characters. While other RPGs cap at level 99 here you can reach level 9999 (no typo) and even reincarnate to increase you stats further. You can improve your skills and items also. There is an item world where you can improve all items to ridiculous levels. You can also throw teammates (do this carefully with Prinnies) and later games use fusions and other interesting mechanics. Then there is the humor and characters. It is well interwoven and there are so much good jokes, side-blows and sarcasm. The story is always a good mixture of awesomeness, seriousness, humor and enjoyable character quirks. All games shine in this regard and so far there is no weak entry. The story evolves around a new cast of characters. The main character Valvatorez is a vampire who has not drunk blood in ages because of a promise which weakened him (He was ultimate secret boss level strong back then and a legend). He is a man of his word, non-corruptible and knows well about Sardines. The werewolf Fenrich has chosen him as his master and is his right hand man, absolute loyal but with own ideas. For the rest I avoid spoilers a bit. There is a girl who thinks everything is a dream, a final boss in training, a grim-reaper and a greedy person. Those have great chemistry and work well. Each game has a fantastic cast but those won me over the most. The story starts simple but escalates into a wild and enjoyable ride. So much dark humor, crazy ideas and twist. I fully admit you must like this kind of craziness but if you do not why even play a Disgaea game? In the story and character regard this game fully delivers. The gameplay is great too. It is a turn based strategy RPG. You know the drill here. Move your characters on the map. Attack use your abilities and defeat your enemies. However the Disgaea games have more than most other games. You have colored Geo panels with pyramids given effects. Destroying them can cause chain reactions that damage all characters on them. You can throw characters, build towers with characters, fuse monsters or equip monster characters as weapons, improve items in the item world or characters, gain items with a bonus gouge and much more. The game has a lot of depth and you can easily get 100 hours of playtime out of it in a single playthrough. There are a lot of things you can unlock later on too so probably more than 200 hours. The graphics and soundtrack look great. The franchise has its own unique style. Soundtrack is amazing too. Here a bit of advice: For power leveling: Level 99 enemies give far more experience then they should by comparison. If you get skills that can vanquish a group of those you are fast in the several hundred levels. Stage 5.2 with increased difficulty to 8 is the best level up area for a while. You can link characters together in a way that 10% experience are gained which power level weaker characters in a few minutes. Evilities and skills are very useful and you should look out for them. Fused and monster character weapons are powerful if chosen correctly. Finally there are a lot of useful tricks to find and explore. Overall this is my favorite game in an already excellent franchise. An easy recommendation if you can enjoy the craziness.
the best disgaea ever made the graphics have improved and the development too.. of course we will have that idot things of the serie but it's this things that makes disgaea what it is
Disgaea 4 is everything a Disgaea fan could want, which is both a blessing and a curse. A blessing in that it's an enjoyable game, a curse in that you probably won't finish it until after the holiday season.
Disgaea's bizarre story and ridiculous characters are difficult to tolerate, but it's the grueling challenge that'll ultimately make many cower away. However, underneath all the style and flash is an intricate RPG that forces you to dig in deep and puts your brains to the test.
The many layers of mechanics are simply too obscure if you haven't played the predecessors to death. Possibly the most complex game in the tactical RPG genre to date, but we just wish the developers had spent as much energy on introducing and explaining the mechanics as they did tailoring the game to existing fans.
A ten? yes a ten.. but not an undeserved one. This is definitely the best entry in the series and the dev team has pulled out all the stops. I have played the entire series and know its faults and strengths and they really outdid themselves. The music is top notch, extremely memorable with a lot of new tracks as well as the inclusion of many beloved classics from earlier titles. The game has a new crisp sprite as well as the ability to change the graphics back to the old style so you can get the classic disgaea visual experience if you want. The balance has been worked on and you can now expect some challenge from the base game instead of special combo blitzing your enemies. The dialogue has real heart and the humor is top notch, expect to be grinning like an idiot at the very least as you play! If not laughing out loud at some of the better jokes. The English voice acting is the best I can say I have heard from any game! And I said that about disgaea 3 also. The disgaea series is one of the few I can safely say has better voice acting than the Japanese originals, and that's coming from a Japanese anime fan!
This game is just perfect.. its got a simple learning curve for newcomers, a great tutorial and I could not recommend it any more to old fans and newcomers to the genre alike, as well as anime fans! (you will find lots of in jokes and references from anime and video games in there too, flawlessly delivered.)
I am a Disgaea fanatic, and thus I'm incredibly picky when it comes to each game. That said, I can safely say this one is the BEST of the series. I've played it for 130 hours now, and I'm not even close to done with all the excellent bonus content, new characters, absurd weapons, or giant prinnies. The graphics are HD now and look fantastic, the special moves are ridiculous and fun to watch, and the music is top notch. And if you've never played a Disgaea game before, no worries! You can jump right into this game and not have to know a thing about how to play or previous storylines. The tutorials were informative without being annoying, and the new plot is by far my favorite. Valvatorez is hilarious! So if you want an SRPG to scratch that itch, Disgaea 4 is an investment that will pay off.
This is by far my favorite game series of all time. I've invested so many hundreds of hours into it it's ridiculous. Disgaea 4 is a fantastic entry. I feel it's much stronger than Disgaea 3 story wise and gameply is also better. Being able to make your own maps is just plain awesome. The graphic improvement is great. The battle animations are absurdly over the top and completely awesome (though you'll end up turning them off while grinding). The only downside IMO is that there are so many different ways to make your character completely OP that it can be overwhelming trying to figure out the best way to max everything. I sometimes wish for the relative simplicity of Disgaea 1. However, this is a very minor quibble as there is certainly no mandate that everything be maxed to complete everything there is in the game.
Also, don't waste your time with the official Brady guide. It's nearly worthless and doesn't do anything to explain any of the more complex aspects of the game (isn't that the point of buying a game guide?)
i have played disgaea 3 and didn't like it too much so i played this game not expecting to much. but i'm happy to say the game is much better. the gameplay is great, the graphics are are awesome, as well as the story. the best part is the length i've played for about fifty hours already and i haven't gotten tired of playing yet.
Je sais que c'est sensé être bon, mais je n'y ait jamais jouer alors je confirme que ce n'est pas bon et comme on dit en anglais c'est très 'overrraté'. Ça reste un jeu avec des **** bonhommes, Je suis pas un bébé.
SummaryDisgaea 4 is a sequel to Disgaea, a hardcore, turn-based, strategy RPG. In Disgaea, character units have a limit to their movement and attack ranges, based on level and weapons equipped. There are other special game factors that let you take advantage of the 3D battle map, many of which are unique to Disgaea. As the 4th installment in th...
