I read the reviews, and was a bit disappointed about how the game rated. Saddened, I bought it anyway and braced for a letdown, but … I loved it! All that nitpicking and garbage that people were saying meant a hill of beans to me. Ya, it could have been done better here and polished more there, but as a fan of the movies… they did an awesome job! It really feels like you’re playing a movie! Even my wife, who could care less about video games, found herself watching me play and was laughing at the dialogue and side conversations the other Ghostbusters were having. Great job Atari!! And thank you. Expand

A fun game overall, although gets a bit repetitive after finishing the career mode and just playing it on network with others. But trying to get all the trophies will keep me going for a while.

OK, where do we start. Using your proton pack is exactly how I imagined it should be after watching these movies for 20 years. It's reckless and destructive, and it catches ghosts real good. This game rocks. It has great voice work from the original cast, a cool story written by Aykroyd and Ramis, and some pretty solid gameplay. It has some online multiplayer ghost busting mayhem too. If you're a fan of the movies at all, I can hardly recommend this game enough. Expand

This is hands-down the best Ghostbusters game in existence, and quite possibly one of the best film based game translations ever made.

It's not perfect, but the story is great and the hunting and trapping is very well done. If there was just a little more of that, I'd have given the game a 10. As it stands, it gets a 9 because, depsite its flaws, it's still a very fun game and the story is great.

Well, this really does a great job of capturing the look, feel and wit of the movies. From the superb script and voice acting done by the original cast, the Ghostbusters equipment, the famous theme tune. This is as authentic as you could possibly hope for and as Brad M below said it really does feel like they wrote a 3rd movie and you're part of it! All this would fall as flat as a pancake if the gameplay sucked though but thankfully this is also great fun to play. The controlls are well thought out, the weapons are imaginative and ther's enough surprises, scares, and epic set pieces to keep it fun through to the end. Ther's a few little irritations - the suddern deaths, linier level design and short time to complete (6-8 hrs). Nothing that's going to ruin your enjoyment too much mind but enough to stop this being a bona fide classic. This gets a hell of a lot more right then wrong though. In short this does justice to the original movies and is a cracking game in it's own right. What more do you want?! Expand

Another case of a game being released before its finished. Full of bugs and glitches. The ghostbusters AI is dumb as a brick and will constantly get themselves killed, forcing you to play babysitter. Casual mode remedies this, however it makes the game devoid of any challenge. The load times are horrendous and the frame rate drops in almost every major fire-fight. The gameplay itself is great regardless and the story is a blast for those who grew up with the ghostbusters like myself. This game is definitely a fan service. The online mode is an excellent edition however several of the trophies are glitched, making the platinum impossible to obtain at this time. There are rumors that a patch is on it's way but it is inexcusable to release a game that's impossible to complete. Would have been rated much higher if the developers didn't rush this out the door in order to meet a deadline. Expand

"Holy crap I'm playing the 3rd movie" was my 1st thought when playing this. It has some of the best writing in a video game in ages. Voice acting is spot on (apart from Alyssa Milano IMO). Gameplay is tight considering the weapons you have at your disposal. Can't comment on the online play as I haven't tryed it yet.

finnaly a ghostbusters game thats good and captures the feel of the movie pretty well. you deffinitly feel like you are waching the third movie as you play. the ghostbusters humor is there all the original voice cast minus weaver and morranis . the controls are pretty good will take you alittle bit to get the hang of but when you do busting ghosts is a fun adventure . a nice varity of ghostbusting gear to use that can be upgraded . the voice acting is pretty solid except for bill murray who at times feels like he is just half asleep and just phoning it in . the rest of the cast do a great job . the graphics are decent and do there job the sound and music is spot on . the game has a few bugs and glitches but nothing i felt made the game near unplayable . your ghostbuster allies how ever have some fairly dumb AI and in some cases i felt i spent more time reviving them them any thing els . there is no 4 player co-op in the story mode eather which to me was the worst thing they coulda left out . you play as a no name no speaking bland looking 5th ghostbuster . which if they where gona do that why not give you a create a charicter option atleast. there is a 4 player co-op online in kind of a horde mode style play which is kinda fun but woulda been better having that co-op in the story mode. all in all im very happy with this game especially since i got it off ebay for just $7 with shipping . which i so feel i came out ahead on . I was really surprised by this game, i got is a present from a friend who got it cheep. Not to be the bad guy, i played it and found myself enjoying the experience a person would want from being a ghostbuster. The team is great with all the original voices and the story is actually really well done. If you have watched any of the movies, you will point at the screen going 'hey, i remember that' many times before the game is done. All your favorites are back, Slimer, Stay Puft, the Librarian, and of course there is the dancing toaster. The controls were surprisingly good, the game handles pretty well. There are several different beams/slime you can shoot, which adds well needed variety, but you can pretty much beat the game with nothing but the normal stream. One thing i found odd is that the game tried to pull a Dead Space by putting the majority of your hub on your pack, overheat, health, cooling, its all there on the pack. This would have been fine if not for the fact that sometimes the screens aren't visible and are too small. Most the time i just cooled off after every ghost i captured. What is a really nice thing to see is the verity in enemies, from possessed object to the super natural ghosts, there is quite a large verity. I did find this game to repetitive, it even repeats a few levels. One really big shocker was just how good the multiplayer is. Instead of having people beat each other up, they help each other by capturing ghosts and the more you get the higher you level up. This is a nice breather after all the shooters such as Mw2 or Red Dead, but i don't like how the it is set up. The leveling up system is confusing, and the community for it is failing fast, so soon it will be another lost server. The final work i have for this game is that it is the perfect game for those who love the movies or just want a good si-fy thriller. Expand

well written, follows the storyline of the movies, however it was very short for a 50 dollar game, the multi-player is fun as well, however i believe there are much better titles out there for the same amount of money, but if you are a ghost busters fan it enhance the fun.

I will qualify this by stating that, although I'm well old enough to remember the Ghostbusters heyday back in the early 1980's, I've always been rather lukewarm to the whole thing. The movies were okay, but nothing I wanted to see more than once. Still, I read good reviews and thought "a good game is a good game." Wow, was this awful. The graphics are very nice, and the story is okay, so there's no problem. It has a sense of humor and *does* play like a sequel to the previous films, so if you're an absolute Ghostbusters fan, this may be for you. The problem is with the gameplay. Catching those things is an absolute chore. I read one professional review where the critic said he "couldn't tell me how much fun it was" to catch and trap the ghosts, and I can only presume he's never played a game that wasn't made for the Atari 2600 prior to this. The actual mechanics of catching and trapping the ghosts is like trying to catch flies with a fishing rod and is about as much fun. Which, is to say, not at all. And that's the main point of the game. I suppose it *does* give you the feeling of what it would be like to be a Ghostbuster. Sadly, it turns out that being a Ghostbuster isn't fun at all. Expand

It is generally a pretty fun game with many flaws hidden in it. Figuring out how to save has been a problem. There is great voice acting and its cool visually. It will bring back some memories of Ghostbuster movies from years ago. They actually made good use of this game.

  1. There are some things I loved about the game and equally the same amount of things I found irritating. It's hard to recommend to fans of third person shooters in general. But, fans of the movies and story driven games will definitely find the game more appealing.
  2. Ghostbusters is the perfect example of how to treat a cherished license right. The game plays great, looks great, and really captures the essence of what makes the series so beloved.
  3. If this hadn't been a Ghostbusters game, then we would likely be praising it for its successes and sweeping its deficiencies under the rug. The fact of the matter, though, is that Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a hugely anticipated game and unfortunately, it ultimately let us down.
