Resistance 3 should not be overshadowed by any other game this holiday season as it gives a unique and action-packed adventure from beginning to end.
  2. Sep 28, 2011
It is definitely a more personal experience than Killzone 3 or even past Resistance games, with a more focused story and linear mission path featuring higher stakes - fighting for family, friends, and the entire world.
  3. Sep 19, 2011
With only a few minor issues, Insomniac has produced not only the best Resistance game to date, but one of the best FPS games I have ever experienced.
  4. Sep 6, 2011
It hits you right between the eyes from the start and never lets up. The control is tight, the variety (fueled by different enemies, upgradeable weapons, and gigantic bosses) is absolutely essential, the atmosphere has a large impact, the story and characters are compelling, and the pacing and technical style is second-to-none.
  5. Sep 6, 2011
Resistance 3 is far superior to its two predecessors and it's one of the most powerful and beautifully crafted shooters on the market for PlayStation 3.
  6. Sep 9, 2011
Resistance 3 treads a line between homage and original work, loads the player up with amazing guns to play with, packs in a passably stocked multiplayer mode, and offers an amazing single-player campaign.
  7. Dec 19, 2011
Resistance 3 does plenty. It's beautiful, thrilling, and-quite unexpectedly-contains one of the most memorable campaigns this side of Halo and Half-Life. In a year full of Sony-branded disappointments, Insomniac has produced an absolute gem.
  8. Nov 29, 2011
This is not only a must for Resistance fans, but any PS3 owner looking for a solid first-person shooter.

A confident and surprising change of direction makes this the best Resistance yet. Varied, thrilling and technically impressive, with only a few notable flaws. [Nov 2011, p.92]
  10. Sep 18, 2011
Resistance 3 is one of those well rounded games that players will be clamouring at their mates to buy. In fact, I guess this review is clamouring for you to buy it too. I loved it and frankly could not find fault with it. From the single player to multiplayer experience, this title is so immersive that gamers could find themselves getting lost within this game world for months to come.
  11. Sep 13, 2011
It may have taken 3 attempts, but Resistance 3 is the FPS the PS3 has been waiting for.
  12. Sep 11, 2011
Fighting the Chimera has never been this much fun. Resistance 3 delivers with a strong atmosphere, expertly designed weapons and an engaging story. By far the best entry in the series yet.
  13. 90
Resistance 3 is without question the best game in the series so far, and a real showcase of what we all knew Insomniac could achieve.
  14. Sep 8, 2011
There is a lot to do in R3 and most of it is enjoyable. Sure, there are parts that could have used some work, but you'll probably have too much fun to take notice of them most of the time.
  15. Sep 7, 2011
One of the biggest surprises of the year. Played alone or with a friend the campaign here is of the highest order, providing an experience that feels different to the competition while managing to finally build on what the series has always had going for it.
  16. 90
All in all, Resistance 3 delivers a very enjoyable campaign with some incredible action sequences. Competitive multiplayer is quite well done, and adds quite a bit of replayability to this package. If you're a PS3 owner who loves first-person shooters, Resistance 3 simply shouldn't be missed.
  17. Sep 6, 2011
Fixes the stumbles of its predecessor, reinvigorates the excitement factor, and has exemplary pacing in its single-player (and co-op) campaign. The Chimera are the most terrifying they've ever been, while you control the most empowering arsenal yet. The multiplayer is as tight as ever, rounding out a complete package of polish, mood, and adrenaline.
  18. Sep 6, 2011
It's a tough battle: which shooter will be the best? The year isn't over yet, but Resistance 3 is a good candidate. There are 12 different weapons, a singleplayer that offers you 12 hours of fun and then there is the multiplayer. Buy this game and you can play this for months. It's definitely a good shooter.
  19. Sep 6, 2011
The game wisely fights the urge to simply build upon the thick feature set of its predecessor, and by focusing on striking a fresh tone and delivering some of the most intensely memorable encounters in recent memory, it's transformed a pretty great system exclusive into an essential genre experience.
  20. 90
The single-player (and co-op) make for a game that can proudly stand next to Uncharted 2 as some of the best the PlayStation 3 has to offer.
  21. Sep 6, 2011
Resistance 3 isn't just a great game full of marked, inspired improvements over its predecessor -- it's a declaration of intent to become the new heir apparent to the sci-fi shooter throne.
  22. Sep 6, 2011
With great visuals and intense heart-pounding gameplay, completed with a replayable Campaign mode and a solid Multiplayer offering that fans of the saga (and gamers who look for a great FPS experience) will love, Resistance 3 turns into the best game in the series so far, making it an epic conclusion to Insomniac's and PlayStation 3's exclusive trilogy.
  23. Sep 5, 2011
Offers the same polished experience as the last two games in the series, only this time the action is more focused and tightly structured. Insomniac clearly wanted to make this game a more harrowing and personal experience, and by focusing its attention on a smaller, more personal story within the invasion, it has succeeded without question.
  24. Sep 28, 2011
A considerable step up for the series and results in a game that should suit every gamers tastes.

The third installment is the best yet. [Issue#210, p.74]
  26. Sep 19, 2011
The character development, pacing and narrative crafting make Resistance 3 a game that shooter fans, even those that weren't in love with Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, should check out.
  27. Sep 12, 2011
With solid graphics, great sound, and some very addictive gameplay, including the multiplayer component, Resistance 3 is a great way for the PS3 to start the fall/winter season of gaming
  28. Sep 8, 2011
Resistance 3 honors its predecessors with a great symbiosis of tough action and thrilling story.
  29. Sep 6, 2011
We have liked Resistance 3 a lot and consider it the best entry in the series. Although the campaign doesn't mantain the same level of engagement through the whole story, it is very enjoyable, varied and full of intense moments. The game makes a great use of sci-fy weapons to create interesting situations, and its online multiplayer has a lot of options. One of the best shooters of the year.
  30. Sep 6, 2011
The increased emphasis on weapons is clearly the right move for Resistance 3. Trying out different guns and upgrading each is a blast, and there are some fun surprises as the game goes on. Despite some neat boosters and abilities, the multiplayer doesn't do too much to stand out, but the variety and pacing of the campaign makes it the best in the series so far.
  31. Games Master UK
    Sep 25, 2011
A more polished, playable and engaging game than Resistance 2. [Nov 2011, p.88]
  32. Sep 14, 2011
Resistance 3 has an enjoyable single player that lasts the right amount of hours. The plot is good but it starts to lose appeal from the middle of the game. Good words for the multiplayer too with a complete redesign from the second chapter that boosts the fun factor and the gameplay mechanics.
  33. Sep 5, 2011
The above-average graphics do an adamant job of carrying you through what really matters in Resistance 3 - the gripping and harrowing story. Think of it as an interactive blend of Cormac McCarthy's The Road meets District 9. It's a must play for fans of the previous games, but a solid sci-fi shooter for those new to the Resistance franchise as well.
  34. 87
There's a greater feeling of depth, life and narrative to the tale and the gunplay is satisfying even if we do have to reserve some criticism for the AI, which still shows itself to be rough around the edges at times.
  35. Sep 8, 2011
It's great when it comes to shooting techniques and weapons, it's bestowed with a desperate and truly well crafted atmosphere, yet it falls short on delivering a great finale to the saga, at least naratively speaking. The good multiplayer side adds even more value to it as an FPS, making it a great choice for every fan of the brand.
  36. 86
Delivers a solid story, dense atmosphere and lots of fancy weapons to play with. It's also kind of retro in design and gameplay – in a positive way. But: The singleplayer-campaign is shorter, the boss-battles are less demanding and exciting than those of Resistance 2. Being a first person shooter with a sci-fi-background, Resistance 3 also has to be compared to Killzone 3. And that's a battle Resistance 3 clearly loses.
  37. Sep 30, 2011
This may not quite be the pièce de résistance finale that franchise fans desired. But a good-not-great single-player campaign story for the trilogy conclusion with a less interesting protagonist is easily overcome with a fantastic variety of alien-eliminating weaponry, solid FPS controls that restore gameplay functionality to fan-favorite quality with the reintroduction of the weapon wheel and health bar, and good-not-great multiplayer.
  38. CD-Action
    Sep 29, 2011
Resistance 3 failed to outmatch its main competitor – the Killzone series – but still is a great game. It's got a tangible atmosphere of threat, a personal story that does not drip with cheap pomposity, a set of 12 fantastic upgradeable weapons that are fun to use and very good visuals (if you don't look at textures up-close). Boss battles are somewhat disappointing though and enemy AI leaves much to be desired. There's also nothing groundbreaking here but good old FPS standards were put together brilliantly. [October, p.44]
  39. Sep 23, 2011
If Resistance 3 turns out to be the last game in the series, Insomniac can look back without any shame. The series hasn't gone out like a candle, but like fireworks. Sometimes the game is a little rough around the edges, but at the end of the ride you have enjoyed yourself, screamed and laughed. That's more than we expected from a developer who had little experience in the genre at the start of this trilogy.
  40. Sep 19, 2011
Sure, the multiplayer might not set your loins on fire but PS3 owners will find the game's single player to be one of the best times they'll have shooting stuff in the face.
  41. Sep 15, 2011
The multiplayer might please some, but it is clearly not the attraction of the package. It goes out with just the right amount of emotions to satisfy both a gamer and a fan.
  42. Sep 12, 2011
Not even a wobbly second act can derail Insomniac's achievement with Resistance 3, a lean and engaging shooter which hums on a current of renewed creative energy and artistic focus. The franchise has finally founds its voice, and we look forward to what it has to say next.
  43. Sep 9, 2011
A worthy addition to the franchise that will certainly please the fans. The journey of Joseph Capelli is effectively emotional, offering -finally- radically improved shooting mechanics along with a vast variety of atmospheric environments. Unfortunately, the sudden ending doesn't offer any answers or a conclusion to the Chimera saga.
  44. Sep 8, 2011
We had lots of fun with Resistance 3, though it doesn't revolutionize the shooter genre.
  45. Sep 7, 2011
Resistance is a solid PS3 Exclusive. The plot is muddled and messy, but the old-school gameplay and the reintroduction of the weapon wheel save the day. The COD-Like multiplayer is, though derivative, rewarding and funny.
  46. Sep 6, 2011
Tightly balanced action and a superb array of guns make Resistance 3 a blast.
  47. Sep 12, 2011
Resistance 3 delivers the goods, make no mistake. They just happen to be the goods that gamers already had, dolled up in a shiny new package.
  48. Sep 6, 2011
It's easy to say that this is the best Resistance title, but it's also easy to say that it's not Insomniac's best game.
  49. Oct 18, 2011
Improved over the previous editions, Resistance 3's showcase of the human condition vs. adversity pulls together with the right mix of drama, action and game mechanics to be one of the marquee shooters of the year.
  50. Nov 14, 2011
If you are looking for a decent and lengthy romp through an alternate 1950's featuring some of the most enjoyable weapons found in any shooter on the market today, this should be the game at the top of your list.
  51. Dec 16, 2011
As a conclusion to the franchise (no doubt pending an awkwardly justified fourth game and spin-offs), Resistance 3 manages to send it off as gracefully as possible.

When the dust settles and the credits have rolled, Resistance 3 stands as a very solid shooter, even though it is a slightly disappointing conclusion to the series. Resistance 3's single-player may be at a slightly lower point in the franchise, the multiplayer offerings have never been this much fun. Either way, this is an apocalypse trip that every sci-fi fan out to saddle up for. [November 2011 p68]
  57. Oct 3, 2011
From the single-player campaign to co-op and competitive multiplayer, Resistance 3 is a considerably more intimate experience. It's arguably the best installment to date, but I still think Insomniac Games can do even better.
  58. Sep 30, 2011
A campaign that starts out promising loses the focus after a while. The online modes and a nice coop mode makes it worth your time and cash.
  59. Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)
    Sep 28, 2011
Does everything we expect, and it does it all very, very well. It's sky-high production values and focused design create a to-the-point experience that's predictable, but also massive, exciting, and predictably, a whole lot of fun. [Nov 2011, p.78]
  60. Sep 23, 2011
It's hard to see where, if anywhere, the series can go from here but Insomniac deserves credit for rounding off Resistance with a final instalment that offers a smart, well-paced and compelling FPS experience.
  61. Sep 23, 2011
Resistance 3 steps up to become the best game in the series, featuring a number of exciting weapons and beautifully designed levels. The horror elements mixed with the toned down story of one mans mission to make the world a better place for his family is thrilling and very enjoyable.
  62. Sep 22, 2011
Its campaign is a thrill ride of rollercoaster-like set-pieces, huge boss battles, and consistently fast-paced action, and its multiplayer is a solid, enjoyable, anarchic complement. If you own a PS3 and you love first-person shooters, you would do well to add this one to your collection.
  63. Sep 21, 2011
Connection issues aside, Resistance 3 really is one of the most enjoyable, memorable action games in years, on any platform. It has giant arachnids, constant action, and an awesome shotgun. It's visually stunning, artistically evocative. And most importantly, it's definitely got soul. And soldiers too, which is nice.
  64. Sep 20, 2011
Resistance 3 has its better and worse sides. Single player campaign can absorb but not thanks to the story - the plot is fairly standard and doesn't stand out. The ending is disappointing - don't count on a strong accent to finish the trilogy. The gameplay itself is attractive and keeps you entertained for several hours and by a second playthrough you can choose a highest dificulty level and look for hidden diaries. Multiplayer, on the other hand, is uneven and won't satisfy everyone's tastes.
  65. 80
Resistance 3 isn't perfect, but there's little to fault with the gameplay, and we'll certainly recommend it to any PS3-owning shooter fan. While not particularly original in many aspects, it's still refreshingly different compared to Call of Duty and its ilk. Resistance 3 isn't exceptional, but it still has plenty to offer.
  66. Sep 9, 2011
Doesn't exactly rewrite the book on first-person shooters, but it offers thoroughly enjoyable gameplay, with a low learning curve, set against a strong narrative. Fans of the previous games will find much to love here, and even newcomers will find it a good jumping on point thanks to the intuitive controls.
  67. Sep 9, 2011
For quite a while into the campaign, Resistance 3 was destined to be a near-perfect shooter for me. I'm doubly disappointed the first half's stellar gameplay and quality narrative elements couldn't last the whole way through. In the end, this is a good game, but it's definitely several steps away from a great game. Value is reasonably a top consideration in game design. It's commendable to produce a 10-hour game, but Resistance 3 is not a 10-hour game. It's a seven- or eight-hour game stretched on the rack, and that kind of torture hurts.
  68. Sep 8, 2011
Resistance 3 is fast, furious and entertaining throughout but lacks the uniqueness that would boost it to the very top of the FPS ladder.
  69. 80
Resistancve 3 ends in a good way, without risking too much and staying true to the original formula. For those who follow Resistance from the beginning, it should be a mandatory acquisition.
  70. Sep 7, 2011
Though being a well-crafted game that will surely please fans of the series and genre, Resistance 3 fails to reach pure excellence due to some unattended promises and a far too classical concept that lacks any sort of innovation. It will guarantee hours in fun in both single player and multiplayer, but Insomniac could have surely done something more if its aim was to reach the top.
  71. Sep 6, 2011
Insomniac makes the same, face-palming mistake from Resistance 2 of placing important story details in notes hidden in the environment, notes tied to unlocking trophies. Added narrative through optional exploration is fine, but please, please don't hide crucial bits of insight within things you may never come across.
  72. Sep 6, 2011
Fast-paced gaming popcorn that will find its place in this chuck-full autumn season. Combinations of the better parts from both previous games of this series may resonate like a motto: "Don't fix it unless it's broken". For those fans of "not so complicated shooters" with high production values, this one is superb. For long-run fans of the series, this one is like an assurance that Insomniac holds the series firmly in their hands.
  73. Sep 6, 2011
Resistance 3 isn't revolutionary, but it's better than Resistance 2 and, even though it's a much more singular, human tale, it feels enough like the first Resistance that hopefully fans that didn't like the second outing will give Insomniac another chance.
  74. Sep 6, 2011
There's no argument there: Resistance 3 is the best episode of the series. More enticing, more polished, and more fun. Some shortcomings prevent it from reaching the top of the genre, though, but it still comes out as one of the best FPS exclusives on the PS3.
  75. Sep 6, 2011
Resistance 3 is the peak point in the franchise Insomniac's been working those latest years. It may or may not be too late, but it's a great game nonetheless.
  76. 80
Wasting aliens done right. In Resistance 3 you've got a great and varied arsenal at your disposal, and you get to play with it in Insomniac's great levels.
  77. Sep 6, 2011
First-person shooter design has reached an evolutionary ceiling and desperately needs some mutant DNA to push it onwards and upwards. Resistance 3 could have provided that genetic jolt; but Insomniac has chosen to look back to how we used to play rather than grapple with how we could play in the future. As understandable as it is, that cautious approach results in a game that is extremely enjoyable, but never as imaginative as you want it to be.
  78. Oct 17, 2011
Even if its multiplayer is a bit generic and bland, Resistance 3 is hands down the best game in the trilogy.
  79. Sep 6, 2011
Resistance 3 gets a whole lot right with a handful of inspired design choices that help it to stand out in the largely predictable first-person shooter market. Even so, some of that first-person shooter unoriginality remains meaning Resistance 3 never quite reaches its true potential.
  80. Mar 12, 2012
They say the show must go on and in the Resistance world there are still questions to be answered, but the disappointing nature of this third instalment and its failure to deliver at retail most likely means this is the last release in the series. Perhaps such an end is the best option all round.
  81. Oct 3, 2011
Overall Resistance 3 is a notable step up in the series and has a lot of offer; it is highly polished and c some enjoyable set-pieces and encounters.
  82. 70
A little more spit and polish could have significantly elevated the title to the ranks of the FPS elite. The old school gameplay was a winner in my book; just don't expect to be wowed by the plot or anything else.
  83. Sep 7, 2011
It lacks the connective tissue to join its bite-size skirmishes into a seamless epic, but as a lightweight pick-up-and-play romp, Resistance 3 is hard to resist.
  84. Sep 7, 2011
It's just a shame that Insomniac Games seemed so hell bent on pushing the dramatic angle that got in the way of a great example of a solid first-person shooter.
  85. 70
Although this is a considerably more interesting and accomplished game than any of its predecessors it's still nowhere near the cutting edge of the first person shooter genre. And we say that not just because of its abandonment of all that Halo introduced to the concept a decade ago.
  86. Sep 6, 2011
    Quotation forthcoming.
  87. Sep 6, 2011
With no reason to connect with these characters and little in the way of action to separate itself from the packed FPS crowd, Resistance 3 makes it clear that the series doesn't belong amongst the triple-A competition in the genre.
  88. Sep 5, 2011
If it wasn't for that second act, Resistance 3 would be looking at a higher score. However, given its duration and the disappointment it heaps upon you, it's that middle third that prevent it from living up to the potential it clearly possesses. It's certainly worth playing but, equally, it's certainly not a classic.
  89. Sep 5, 2011
Despite trying to act as a gritty tale of survival, Resistance 3 is in essence just a regular shooter, with far more action filled firefights than lurking tales of humanity. Thankfully it's a well made game and has an impressive arsenal of excellent weapons, and the multiplayer - including a much-missed co-op mode - is a lot of fun.
  90. Sep 16, 2011
If you're a fan of mindless violence and are willing to be satisfied just pulling a trigger on some very neat technology, Resistance 3 could tickle your fancy. With stunning visuals that once again push the Playstation 3 to its edge, there's plenty to be satisfied if you're looking for a Bruckheimer-esque production. Walk in looking for anything else though and you'll find a six to seven hour campaign that fails to spark anything more than basal satisfaction throughout.
  91. Sep 30, 2011
Resistance 3 stands as a whimpering end to a franchise that never quite found its stride. With a little more risk and less reliance on the successes of its peers Resistance 3 could have become the jewel in Sony's crown.

To fans of the series, you will be very happy about what Insomniac hasJust finished the campaign mode after my midnight pickup from Gamestop. To fans of the series, you will be very happy about what Insomniac has done to the game. It does feel a bit more arcadey as far the feel of the guns but I feel like it is definitely for the better. The upgrade system is fantastic and is a great addition. The story is everything you have come to expect from the Resistance series which is a definitely a plus and the dire situation injected into the story is perfectly conveyed throughout the entire game. I am going to play through again in co-op and finish upgrading my weapons and I haven't touched the multiplayer yet on the retail copy. Everything I experienced from the beta from the last month leads me to believe I am going to spend quite a bit of time with multiplayer from here on out. The multiplayer in my opinion is just as polished as COD, Halo & Battlefield but you are just dealing with a more basic concept in R3 and not as intricate. The single player competes with any of those games as well and is very immersive so I would suggest this game to newcomers to the series as well. I could not have asked for any more in my Resistance experience. Full Review »
