I'm only about 3 hours into the campaign right now, but so far, all I can say is that this is the most fun I've ever had with an FPS. It all comes down to one thing: The Guns. They never get old either, because you are constantly being introduced to new guns, and your old ones get upgraded as you use them. The graphics are "different" but not bad, kinda artsy in a way. The environments are pretty cool, and the levels are well designed. The story is also quite compelling. This is definitely the best of the series, and like I said before, this is my new favorite FPS. Bottom line: BUY THIS GAME.

Update: I am much farther in the campaign now, and it's still pretty good. Another bonus is that the campaign is quite long, longer than I expected. The plot has gotten even better and I feel real attachment to the characters and their situation. It's really quite good,

The upgrade system is fantastic and is a great addition. The story is everything you have come to expect from the Resistance series which is a definitely a plus and the dire situation injected into the story is perfectly conveyed throughout the entire game. I am going to play through again in co-op and finish upgrading my weapons and I haven't touched the multiplayer yet on the retail copy. Everything I experienced from the beta from the last month leads me to believe I am going to spend quite a bit of time with multiplayer from here on out. The multiplayer in my opinion is just as polished as COD, Halo & Battlefield but you are just dealing with a more basic concept in R3 and not as intricate. The single player competes with any of those games as well and is very immersive so I would suggest this game to newcomers to the series as well. I could not have asked for any more in my Resistance experience. Expand

Nothing to write home about. The only unique bit from r2 has been removed. Fails to break the mold and doesn't differentiate from anything else in the sci fi fps genre.

The unique multi-player part from R2, has been removed. The PVE part was the greatest thing ever seen, and now they totally destroy it with just an abnormal FPS. Multi-player part: PVP only. This is just a Half-Life, U-Torrent, Quake look a like.... Have never ever been so desapointet, was so looking forward for this game. Dead Island will be my thing instead.

I don't care what anyone says. This is the best Resistance so far. The online is not a cluster **** like the previous games and they took out over powered weapons like the Wraith from R2. I'll admit, I do miss the co-op, but I still Love this game.

Just to point out, Resistance 3 is the first Resistance game I have played but the game did a good job of briefing me the story from what happened in the first two game so I pretty much have no need of playing them really. From what I can tell, some alien virus has landed on earth and turned humans into alien mecha things. From my playthrough, on how the game tells the story seriously, it feels like a B movie of some sort. Moving on to the gameplay, it's like a throw back to Serious Sam and Doom with crazy weapons at your disposal and over the top gun fights with monsters and It has been a while since I had fun with a shooter. I really enjoyed this game and the multiplayer is fun too, with all those weapons I always assume that it would be. Expand

Resistance 3 is one of the finest shooters I have ever played, after experiencing resistance 2, which was one of my biggest let downs of a game ever due to its shoddy graphics. The graphics are also much improved, and environments are finely detailed, and atmospheric, accompanied by the music giving a great overall cinematic feel.

The gameplay is sweet also, as you advance through the game, a great arsenal of weapons become available, that you can level up, the more you use them, the more powerfull they become. Theirs some great moments here, nothing that hasn't been done before, but it's all done so well, with great attention. If you have any doubts that I had when I bought this then you should bite the bullet and give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have to admit im a fan of the series, loved the first 1. 2nd one was okay, but this was Great!!!. They nailed it on the spot with this one. Im glad the Weapon Wheel was brought back. even though the game was kinda short i still got a good experience from it. also at the After Capelli closed the wormhole from stopping the world from freezing and from keeping the Pure Chimera form entering through the wormhole. After capelli closed it there were still many chimera left on the planet. The chimera were dealt a blow but was not beaten. this leads speculation to a resistance 4 maybe?? but overall all great game. Expand

I'd have to say based on my own experience this game is not as boring as some would say. This game offers the creeps with detailed intel reports and creepy audio messages. Moreover, the cutscenes and flashbacks in this game gives off the good old "MGS" theatrical vibe, which is of course, one of the best games to integrate movie like elements into a game. The new multiplayer is a vast improvement from No.2 and is just downright fun. Yes, FUN, the one and only thing important in online gaming. Overall, this game is worth your money and time, offers a brilliant and well crafted story along with all those exciting quirks and what not that will make you game out of your mind. If you do decide to pick this game up, just get ready for the "awesomeness" as many of my peers would say. Expand

Flaming shotguns, laser guns that lock on and bend around corners, and kill streaks that dont totally unbalance the game and have great weapons like the Augur to use for a few seconds.

Overall I think this is the FPS of the year on the PS3 and probably on all consoles.

Resistance 3 is a wonderful game. The story is amazing, and the controls are fluid that even my friend who's used to playing pc games can play it. Campaign: The story is well thought out but can seem lazy at times. The campaign is like a roller coaster when it comes to difficulty, from being a cakewalk to it just ramming you with snipers and nearly impossible hoards of enemies. What i dislike about the campaign is 1. Sometimes it just gets too impossible that you need to just put it down for a minute; and 2. That if one person dies when you're co-oping with someone, then it's basically a game over. Not as in "oh no, i can't do this alone" but as in "wtf, the game ended and now we need to start back here?." So the campaign does have some flaws, but those flaws can make it or break it for the players. Moving on to Multiplayer: Ah multiplayer, a large portion of the game that decides whether it's a buy or a rent to the player. The multiplayer is somewhat disappointing. with only few weapons but many perks, it does get boring after a little. There is no team balance, and you unlock weapons and perks based on level, together you get unbalanced games where the team that almost always wins are the ones with wildfires (the rocket launchers of this game), which are unlock only at a high level! And the killing sprees are just ridiculous. Not ridiculous as in "HOLY **** but ridiculous as in "Was that it?" Though don't get me wrong, the multiplayer can get a little wild and is worth playing. Overall Resistance 3 is just an amazing game with flaws that can shy a player away from buying it, but if you can overlook these flaws then you'll find yourself addicted to this game. Expand

I tried adjusting the settings and just could not figure out the life of me how to make it not terrible. I've had the same problem with some of the wii fps and they are nearly unplayable for me, thank god for the dual shock, but anyways this is not a wii review, this is a resistance 3 review. I love the resistance series probably one of my favorite fps series ever, Insomniac did not fail to disappoint with R3. The story isn't that long it may have taken me a little over 10 hours which is around the standard time it takes to complete a FPS these days. The only sad thing is I am still left wanting more knowing that this is the final resistance game. Sounds were great, voice acting also top notch. Graphics don't seem very colorful but they are good. Guns look snazzy and just as creative as the other resistance games, the mutator gun became my favorite instantly for its hilarious effects. Watching enemies vomit was amusing. I don't think there are as many guns as in resistance 1 but theres still a lot. I was a little disappointed that the ending didn't show much more. Regardless still another solid PS3 exclusive fps to add to the collection. I didn't play the MP wasn't much interested so I can't really say anything of it. Alone the game is worth playing for the single player, worth giving a rental unless you can find a cheap copy or get it for free. Expand

They really came full circle with this iteration and did a great job of combining what I felt to be the pro's of both the first and second game (fleeting as they were). What you have here is a unique shooter with interesting weaponry that delivers an often times extremely stressfully exciting play atmosphere. I truly miss the days when if you lost health, you lost health. All regenerating health does is promote hiding, whereas with a non-regenerating health mechanic, when you drop down to almost no life, your options are die or go cowboy and hope it works out. Frankly, I enjoy being a cowboy way more than a hiding thumb sucker. Pick the game up, it is pretty fun. The Move functionality is entertaining as well. My biggest drop in score comes from the one time use codes; I will never agree with this system. It is a tedious chore thrust upon gamers because corporatized gaming wants to see their bottom line fatter. Expand

The story of this game is good. Nothing more, nothin less. Can't get into too much detail without using spoilers, but you have one simple goal to achieve and the way to it is interesting with nice ideas, tense moments and diversity, albeit avoiding to feel forced. What I mean is it never feels like "now is the vehicle level, now is the creepy level, now the sneak&snipe section ..." Yes, you will be on a vehicle, yes, you will have to sneak and so on, but it always feels fresh and natural to the story and events. There are a few really neat twists and surprises, but nothing too exaggerated or "so mindblowing, I saw it coming"y.

Some of the characters could've used more screentime and development, for instance Dr. Malikov is mostly just meaningful because you know him from the previous game. Even though he accompanies you for a big part of the story, you rarely get to know him better than you already do from R2. Capelli himself could've used more characterisation, just a few sentimental moments were not enough, though some scenes with him were really sweet and when he gets his exposition, it's usually well done and believable.

Personally, I didn't like the strong "military shooter" tone of the prequel, so I'm glad this one is more of a "survival & desperate attempts" and "roadmovie" story, sorry if I cannot express it better. Now most people seem to not play FPS for the melodram, what about the gameplay? Most importantly, the weapon wheel is back and regenerating health has been ditched, both of which I gladly welcome and like a lot. The weapons are interesting, have their use and can be upgraded to have even more functions, but I'm sad the ripper isn't there any longer. However, the Grim suck this time. While they were creepy and the sections wih them kind of scary in R2, this time, they're just annoying and appear much too often. Other than that, it's pretty good, a lot of variation both in landscapes and situations. I also liked how you must use your weapons wisely, especially on higher difficulties, but I thought they overdid it with the sniper enemies towards the end. It's not that those sections are bad, but at one point I just was like: "What, ANOTHER area with snipers?!"

Content is good, too, it doesn't get lengthy and is still no short game by any means, I'd say it's pretty much perfect in that regard, especially when you consider how short FPS games tend to be nowadays.

There's one thing I must point out which I considered very disappointing and that's the bosses. There are only a few to begin with, they're not THAT interesting and still get repeated, that's just lame. Sounds worse than it is, maybe, but I had hoped for more.

Graphics/Sound/Music/: Nothing much to say, I found the presentation of this game to be great in all aspects.

Again, keep in mind I'm not saying anything about the MP. Overall, I'm giving this 9/10 because I seriously enjoyed it a lot and the few gripes I had do not weigh that heavily for me.

Even if characters aren't very interesting, the battles are great, the cutscenes looks good, and the weapons are very unique. Other than the pretty good and well paced campaign, the multiplayer can be very fun once you start unlocking guns and more equipment. Recommended if you love FPS games.

This game is truly something unique nowadays, because of its old school nature. This is obvious because of two reasons. First, health packs are present, with not even a hint of regenerative health. I love that. Second, almost the entire game, the player is alone. Sure, there are some NPCs accompanying him sometimes, but the one man army feel of the old shooters is back. There will never be a squad with you, annoying you with their bad AI. I love that even more.
To summarize, this game is incredible in every way.

The variety and originality of the weapons, a well known trace of the series, is back and improved. Enemy AI is very impressive and atmosphere, one of this title strong points, is truly remarkable. The combination of the stylized, expressive, melancholic and gritty art-style with interesting, emotional and dark music produce a very immersive gaming experience.

The only negative aspects of this game are the initial installation and patching, but these two points are not direct related to the great and unique gaming experience this game offer.

Fanboys are raging about the game not doing anything outside the box but what about the weapon wheel and health system? Resistance 3 is probably the only FPS of this generation where you can carry more than 3 guns and it doesn't has the auto-regeneration health that Halo made so popular back in the day. The truth is that Resistance 3 packs a great story even thought the ending was a disappointment. The gameplay is oldchool (I bet most of you started playing the genre with Halo so I don't think you'll know what I mean by "oldschool") but feels new and it's responsive. Graphics are pretty good but the animations are a bit stiff. The multiplayer is no Call of Duty but can be enjoyable for quite a while.

Fantastic game. Easily the best in the series and the most under-rated game of 2011 in my opinion. The single player may not be suited to brainless 'hoorah!' COD boys, but it's a great thinking man's shooter with a strong story, great survival elements and characters you can actually care about. The online is now working virtually perfectly and the co-op is a blast too. Highly recommended.

The first thing that will stand out in Resistance 3 is how remarkably short the game is compared to other games in the FPS genre. Personally I think concise campaigns do a better job than longer campaigns overall. Furthermore, I feel the length of the campaign fitted well within the structure and style of the gameplay. It's a decent FPS experience. It has no innovation or creativity but it keeps up to the par with all the standards of a normal FPS experience. It's not a blockbuster ,but still competent enough to warrant a buy. The multiplayer mimics alot of Call of Duty gameplay, but maintains just enough difference to keep you interested. Whether the multiplayer will sustain players like COW is yet to be determined. Like I said its a decent shooter without any innovation. Expand

Like its predecessors, R3 paints an absorbing and beautifully horrific world.

I admit to being disappointed in the online component, after R2's delightful 8x coop and chaotic pvp. Not every game should be MAG with its 128v128, but R2 hit a good note in its medium-large matches.

Now when is an FPS going to offer matchmaking with a serious effort at match balance?

Amazing game, amazing ambiance, decent 3D, great Move controls, and gameplay that follows and improves upon the essence of the first Resistance game. The game is not one to miss, anyone who argues is highly bias.

Resistance 3 is a thrill ride from start to finish and doesnt require you to play the first 2 games to understand it (because I didn't play them like I had stated before.) On top of that all of the weapons are interesting, the story is dark and gritty (just how I like my shooters,) and the characters (while they don't go into a lot of detail about them) we're interesting and likable. The reasonably long campaign didnt feel like a burdon as my friend and I played for several hours and lost track of time. The only downside is that there are about 7 parts in the game where they toss you in pitch black with a very dim flashlight which makes it hard to find your way around even with the brightness turned all the way up. I have not tried the multiplayer but I do know the cool mode is gone but who knows, maybe they will release it as dlc with even more than before. All in all a good, fun ride. Expand

Bullseye now has a super cool holographic iron sight. Now from Resistance FOM and R2 I had the Carbine as my rifle but in R3 bullseye is my new rifle. The sound of it just keeps makes me using it again and again! The cut scene in R3 is amazing with the flare lens effect it gives a good feeling of 1950s now games like BF3 also have it. It gives us a feel of the camera. Now its a new game trend I guess. The story progression is great. So far the reviews by other people is just not acceptable. They give it a low score just because of 1 coop mission taken off. Thats insane! Just because of 1 small thing they give it like 3 or 2 out of 10. Hmmm.... Looks like they buy the game just because of Multi player. Resistance 3 is best in Campaign the multiplayer is just an add-on please think of the campagin. Same like BF3 it has a solid multiplayer but bad Campagin. So now go play that game if you want multiplayer do not complain that this does not have a good one and give it score like 3/10 2/10. The new Boss fight is introduced which is very good they have weak points so making it more interesting to play. Final ending of the game is new in all games. With solid gameplay! Guns! Explosions! Chimeras! AND Capelli is a good new hero for Resistance series. Why I said R2 was not that great was cause they finished Hale too early! There should have been 1 more Resistance before he was done!

So because of the solid campagin and great story telling! If you like campagin games you should check Resistance 3 out! The best in the series and more Resistance would be nice. Resistance world is a solid platform for games. It could be easily developed! And Insomniac Games is very good in doing it! Hopefully Resistance 4 comes out!

Finally! Resistance 3 is a must play game! So I am giving it 10/10

That's gone. Wiped out. Dead. The Multiplayer is now just a slightly aberrant experience, nothing exciting and nothing that would make you say 'whoa, that was pretty epic!' like in R2. Secondly, the Campaign didn't strike me as anything special either. Sure, we saw a lot of big, badass looking Chimera, but didn't get to fight many at all- mostly just grunts. I just wish Insomniac would figure out where they wanted to series to go and just stick to that formula. Insomniac reminds me of Linkin Park- if anyone knows who they are you'll probably get it. However, I did still enjoy it. Sure, there are parts that really annoy you and the plot is a bit shallow (just my opinion) but at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is fun. The way they implement the different effects such as zooming in when running and the blur effects and lighting are spectacular as well are the textures in the distance. The con would be the textures when your up close to them because they look blurry and just not all that pretty. That's my only gripe or this would've gotten a 10/10 score. really? well im sorry but i question if you played this or half life. half life in its time was one of the best games and had a very compelling story w/ characters to match. this is resistance 3. and it did not bring the same , it brought new. and i welcomed and enjoyed it.game of the year? no.game worth playing and owning if you are a fan of resistance or a fan of having a good gaming exp, yes. with a ton of generic f.p.s its refreshing to play one which doesnt follow suit. if you look to compare then you will rate the game w/ another in mind. the way i rate, and so do others on here, is to place the game in console and press start with the thoughts of, i hope this is good..and then tell others what this game offered and lacked. half life is one of those games that dont come very often, and if one were to compare this with half life, base the review on such and then rate it poorly, then you are saying half life is a 3 thats when confusion sets in and the rating system is useless. everyone has an opinion, but it seems some also have an agenda. i say this from what i read and see, not by what i think. game is good, it is better than average and has nice visuals along w/ gameplay. 8.5-8.7. and if i were to compare this to games which were down right bad, then this would be a 10. but thats not how it works. simple, play the game and review it honestly and non-biased and if in fact you have good or bad opinions then present material which supports it, and base it on this game. if you are confused to the ratings then try/rent b4 you buy. now go ahead and spam that no button under my review.lol. been gaming forever. mgs4,halo,uncharted,c.o.d. waw,bbc2,mario cart, ultima online, half life, starcraft, diablo 2,max payne, crysis, dues ex,fable 2,kings quest, zelda ocarina,rsv2.few fav's Expand

Amazing game play! Just finished playing SP and I must say I was astounded by how well they're adapted the story from one character to another, along with that the Multi-Player is a blast! I'm only level 10 at the moment but I really am enjoying the game so far, it's a sure fire 10 from me!

Best FPS CAMPAIGN I've played in a while. It reminded me of Half Life. Definitely my favorite FPS on the PS3. I already want to dive back in and play on CO OP. I like the COMPETITIVE multiplayer but wish they would have stuck to the shorter match times of the beta.

A very good FPS. The campaign part of the game is an involving story that plays like a cool sci-fi movie. The end of the campaign mode is a little anti-climactic, imho, but not fatally so. Part of the challenge is figuring out which weapons work better with which foes. The co-op campaign mode is fun too, though there are many more online players who just want to jump around and kill everything, rather than actually play together in a co-operative story mode. There are numerous multiplayer modes, just like in every FPS nowadays. I played the beta version of the multiplayer mode a bunch before the game came out, but now that I have it the campaign and co-op modes are much more entertaining for me. The multiplayer mode for R2 tried to force people to play together and take on different roles to work together. But that has been largely abandoned, as most of the multiplayer world does not care about strategy or teamwork, just amassing points, to no end. The campaign has replay value and is not something you can blow through all that quickly, which is great for me. A solid game. Expand

I was incredibly disappointed when I played through R2's campaign - silly art style, loss of the environment created by R:FoM, no weapon wheel, scripted bosses, and so on. My purchase of R2 was warranted by only one thing: the 8-player online coop mode. This is the first game to ever get me into online gaming, and only 2 other games have done so since. I was hooked to this. It could've used some improvements for sure, especially support of further downloadable content - namely more levels and missions - but overall it was fantastic. Insomniac had something incredible here. When I heard they weren't including the 8-player coop in R3 I was blown away and confused. The only reason I see for this is laziness. I think Insomniac was ready to be done making exclusives instead of making more money by going multiplat. I think they just wanted to put a sufficient - rather than excellent - effort into this game just to get done with it and move on. Wanting to make more money is somewhat understandable though.

Anyways, I tried to stay positive toward the game during the pre-release phase despite the exclusion of the 8-player coop, and it worked bc I was pumped for this game. Campaigns are what I live for usually anyways. I missed the campaign quality from R:FoM, and from the sound of it R3 was gonna deliver the campaign R2 failed to do. I just played R3 last night, and I must say I'm pretty darn disappointed. The story was fairly boring for the most part; was unbelievable often (spoiler alert - A little tugboat can take 20 rockets from a goliath? Really??); the enemy AI was terrible and scripted; the human AI was just terrible (spoiler-the part where you meet up with the resistance group that has the chopper, and you run into one of the ape enemies...as I ran around for 10 minutes evading ape guy, my "allies" stood in the corner, failing to fire a single bullet, let alone actually move. At one point when I was forced in their direction, I couldn't help but notice that they were all facing the wall. Apparently facing a wall makes you invisible to ape enemies, bc he certainly paid zero attention to anyone but me. Should've tried the wall approach); running feels like a brisk walk; melee is neither fluid nor fast to give you that great feeling of a spray-with-bullets-then-finish-off-with-sweet-melee-to-the-face combination; animations are awful at times (spoiler-the arena when you have the hammer to defend yourself...great example of terrible enemy AI, but also bad animations. Each time you hit an enemy with your hammer it's like some sort of joke how their bodies react. Pinball anyone?); grenade throwing is odd and it seems slow-motion is turned on each time you toss one; and the last thing I can think of is the sound - sound either didn't occur or was delayed many, many times when it was supposed to (example: major explosion without the occurrence of explosion sounds), making for majorly anticlimactic moments (maybe it was my ps3 though?). The only thing I found myself truly enjoying about R3 was the shooting and the ability to upgrade your weapons. I liked this added feature a lot, and it was the only thing that kept me playing.

Anyways, my goal isn't to bash R3 or Insomniac. Im incredibly disappointed though bc I wanted so badly to have the excellence of R:FoM's campaign (and R2's 8-player coop) continued and expanded upon. It killed me when I saw how poor R3 was selling (preorders), but after playing it I don't blame ps3 owners for not lining up at the door to purchase it. There's just not really much to tempt anyone to buy R3 over any other game. I love you Insomniac, so please redeem yourself by going 110% on all of your games in the future. And if you want sales, load your game with content rather than cutting back on it.

As a standalone game I would give R3 a 7.5. When comparing it to my expectations due to my love for the series, I would give it between a 5-6.5. I'll be nice and give it a 7.

The graphics are pretty good and color schemes are used successfully in portraying the mood of the game; however, they aren't as good as Uncharted's, Killzone's or God of War's graphics when they probably should be on that level by now (it is the third game in the series after all). The game is a little too easy on the easier difficulties and there are some bugs but if that is a problem, then turn up the difficulty. The bugs aren't a big deal and I haven't encountered them too much. A cooperative campaign mode returns from Resistance: Fall of Man but I didn't find it as fun as R:FOM when playing with another person. There were also a few issues in the gameplay in coop but I believe that they have been fixed through updates. I wish that the extremely fun coop mode from Resistance 2 would return but I understand that Insomniac wanted to really focus the game to make the best experience they could.

In my opinion, the multiplayer in Resistance 3 is top notch. It is completely customizable to your play style through perks and weapons upgrades. R:FOM had fantastic multiplayer and Resistance 2's was alright as well but I love the small matches in Resistance 3. Especially after the updates have gotten rid of all the lag and framerate issues as well as improved balance in weapons and perks/abilities. While not perfect, Resistance 3 is a great game, even to those who don't follow the series, and in my opinion is worth at least one play through. It is a shame that this great game has been overlooked by the other juggernauts that have been released this year.

The campaign gives you a sense of urgency as you travel about the map trying to end the Chimera invasion. Actually, the people have given up and you just want to survive at this point. The game is great. It's not COD, or Battlefield, nor does it want to be. It's original on its own rite. No hide and heal here. It's more of kill some baddies and hope there is a health canister near by(in easier modes they are plentiful) I like this because it keeps you fighting without having to take a break and wait 5secs. to heal up. Just keep gunning and hope you run over one and then keep gunning and fighting. The weapons are far out, and the enemy death animations rival Gears of War. Over the top blood and limbs a flying everywhere. I have yet to dabble alot in multiplayer and will be doing so for the coming months. I recommend this game to all PS3 owners that want action and to FPS lovers. For the life of me I can't understand why they would go from such a fun, smooth and accessible experience in Resistance 2, to a mess like this in Resistance 3. I'm incredibly disappointed with this game. Now since i really liked the single player campaign I gave this game a 6/10, but what they did to the multiplayer aspect of the game is inexcusable. I've seen some user reviews of people saying that Metacritic is being trolled by 360 fans, but the truth of the matter is that if you are a true fan of this series, then you should not be afraid to tell Insomniac about what your true feelings are towards this game. I was a massive fan of all Socom games on PS2, and this year Zipper released Socom 4 which was an abomination to the Socom series, and yet there were people trying to defend the game even though Zipper took everything out of the game that makes Socom unique to everything else out there. First gripe is that the cinematics don't look very good in stereo 3d. Either they are conversions . . . or the convergence is set so low that everything is just flat. Also the frame-rate is really low with 3d enabled. It doesn't feel like it ever really hits 30fps, and it's usually more like 15. The resolution is also extremely low, 500 lines at the most. Resistance also suffers from some pretty terrible ghosting, which I don't think is due to my monitor (it plays pc 3d games with no ghosting whatsoever). It may be due to the low frame-rate not quite lining up with the 3d glasses. Finally, most of the iron-site cursors are not in 3d, making it difficult to aim while zoomed.

There are some good things to say about the 3d as well :) There are no rendering errors (aside from the ghosting) and the cursor floats out in front of you as it should. Also, the 3d effect is nice and strong once you max it out in the menu. Resistance also sports a really nice convergence trick. As you walk toward objects in a 3dVision game, you often get really horrific errors like objects that are attempting to render themselves inside your head or behind you. Also, you get objects that will render on top of or inside of one another. This really hurts the eyes. Resistance solves this issue by subtly altering the convergence of the 3d effect, so as you walk toward something it never actually pops out of the screen or touches your gun. This may sound like kind of a bummer, but in practice it really reduces eye strain.

As a shooter, Resistance is above average, but only just. The guns are the real shinning star of the game, but the low framerates leave the encounters feeling a little squishy for my tastes. Pacing is excellent, very reminiscent of Half-Life 2. Art and design are both fantastic; however, the story and acting fall flat. It has my recommendation, provided you don't expect too much out of it.

The graphics are nice although the colours are stupidly dark and the texture contrast makes the game hard to read, the designs are neat and tidy and the feeling of fighnting in a lost war is still overwhelming. Now one last remark, as far as I rember from various interviews most of these changes have been made to accomodate R1 fans who didn't like R2, but I don't see too many of those anymore. Goes to show devs should focus on designing not on listening to whinging kids on the internet. As a huge fan of Resistance 1 and 2 I would like to offer a word of advice to those on the fence--this is a crippled sequel lacking many of the unique and innovative qualities that help Resistance stand at (or near) the front of the line of console shooters!

    Story--
I would like to say, "What story?" and leave it at that--but it probably wouldn't help anyone. The first 2 Resistance games are more about the alien invasion than the main character Hale--kind of like Predator and Alien. Each game took us deeper into the Chimeran world and way of thinking. Not R3. You gain little to no new information about the Chimeran race. If anything, you gain more questions and they're not provoking enough to warrant answers.

They attempt a more "personal" story about a man conflicted between being with his family and saving the human race from inevitable destruction. I mean, I think that's what they're going for. Really, it's just a bunch of melodramatic "We have to find the power cell to get to New York" junk that couldn't keep a five year-old entertained. Half the dialog is, "Open that door."

The ending is horribly anti-climatic. I think something "big" happened, but since the game felt so small the entire time I hardly noticed. As a matter of fact--I'm not so sure we accomplished what we set out to do. If Resistance 1 and 2 are to be considered Books in the epic saga that is Resistance, than R3 is a 32 page comic book subplot that we'd all be better off not reading.

    Graphics--
There's definitely some interesting effects going on here but the camera is too "zoomed" in to make your environment manageable. I often got lost in small rooms because I couldn't get a wide enough view to grasp my surroundings. It's not a big problem unless you play two player--where the screen is already cropped. Ultimately, this game isn't the prettiest nor the ugliest. Gameplay--
The game is practically glitch free. I say that because it's not really impressive. It's a shooter and that's it. You run to this room--shoot everything there. Run to the next room--shoot everything there. This would be fine if each room offered unique and interesting gunfights like Resistance 2 but most the time it's pretty standard. Also, half the game is just walking in areas void of enemies or objectives. I think these were supposed to be moments for us to take in the post-apocalyptic, 1950s USA--but it really just reminded me how little this game has to offer. The first two levels of Resistance 2 had more interesting fights and situations than R3's entire campaign mode.

And what about bosses? Sure, they weren't wildly innovative in R2 but they were interesting enough to warrant inclusion. If I remember correctly, there's only 2 real boss fights in R3 and they're against the same creature.

    Multiplayer--
Honestly, I only played for about five minutes. Seeing as I'm a huge fan of Battlefield I'm not sure how simple 8-on-8 is going to keep my attention. But my complaint is not what this online multiplayer is like--it's what it's lacking. Notably the 8-player co-op mode from Resistance 2. Maybe you didn't like it but I loved it. If you're fan of Left 4 Dead or Borderlands--like myself--than surely you can appreciate the added value of having such a mode with this game. I was quite shocked they excluded it as it was the primary feature I was looking forward to. Then I saw Insomniac's teaser trailer for their multiplatform game. It happens to be a class-based, co-op shooter very much inspired by what they did in R2. That's not very nice Insomniac.

Ultimately I feel cheated. This is one of the few sequels I've seen that so heavily scrapped features that were popular and successful in previous iterations. It appears Insomniac trusted dedicated fans to blindly purchase this game--almost like Guitar Hero sequel--while resources were focused on their new IP. If you're not convinced by me at least rent before you buy. Don't worry about the online pass as it's hardly worth the free code that comes with a new copy.

This is the last Insomniac game I'll buy. Maybe Sony will give the franchise to Ready at Dawn??

It's not often that I feel the need to write a review about a game but I did this time because my expectations were so high for Insomniac on the handling of this and it ended up falling FAR below my expectations. The campaign side of the game is solid but not particularly innovating. If the game were that alone I would rate this a solid 7 and maybe even an 8... but throw in the complete mess of multiplayer and I can't help but rate that portion as a 1 or even a big fat ZERO. As sad as it may be in the FPS world today multiplayer is the big determining factor for replayability but this just seemed like 2 steps back from R2. If you feel like you can just jump right in and play the multiplayer you are in for a shock. Get ready to see beautiful scenery and bright flashes of light, color, and skills that can blow your mind and probably confuse you until you can create your custom load out with the video demos of what each thing does. Insomniac couldn't be bothered to print the descriptions of each skill in the manual so for the first few levels you'll be completely lost on what each thing does unless you research it online or watch the demos. Unfortunately, the pretty scenery doesnt get you anywhere when the gameplay is so lacking. The main issue I find is that the lag is insane. To make this worse it's not network lag, it's graphical lag. The PS3 just simply cannot handle all the flashes and effects when 3 or more players are congregated in close proximity. You can forget about getting a bead on someone's head while aiming down the sights with anything but the sniper rifle due to the jerky movements and lost frames when your PS3 is chugging along trying to put everything in it's proper place. You think that person you've unloaded your entire carbine clip into is standing in front of you but really they've already one shotted you from the side by an atomizer or shotgun.

That brings up the second major issue. There is VERY little skill involved with the gameplay and has more to do with the dedication of time getting past that low level grind so you can get weapons that will utterly demolish people. I can't even count the number of times I have died without understanding how it happened. I will see and hear no gunfire, receive no warning, and be immediately dead due to either a glitch or a skill/weapon that gives an enormous advantage over lower level players. Can you imagine sitting there with a weapon that can take up to 30 shots to kill someone versus another player that is invisible, undetectable by radar, shielded, and is carrying multiple one shot kill weapons or can see you and fire through walls? All this said the game has potential to be fixed through updates. Its impressive to look at and with a little tweak in balancing my review could be seriously re-evaluated. In doing research online a lot of the people that played the beta and other pre-finalized versions stated the frame rate issues were not nearly as bad but still present.

Pros - Beautiful to look at.
    Creative weaponry and skills.
    Good, Solid story.

Cons - Graphical lag via lost frames.
No explanation of multiplayer skills from the beginning.
    Unbalanced weaponry and skills.

I have played through this entire game and played five hours of multiplayer and i can honestly say this is best game that i have ever played. bringing back the weapon wheel was a very good move on insomniac's part. the plot of the game is possibly the best in the series apart from what i consider a pretty weak ending. the addition of upgrading weapons is also a welcome change and at timesI have played through this entire game and played five hours of multiplayer and i can honestly say this is best game that i have ever played. bringing back the weapon wheel was a very good move on insomniac's part. the plot of the game is possibly the best in the series apart from what i consider a pretty weak ending. the addition of upgrading weapons is also a welcome change and at times in the game i ignored what would be a smart weapon to use in the situation so i could level up a weapon i really liked. the pacing of the story was great and it was nice to see the remnants of humanity still fighting the chimera. the graphics aren't the best ever seen on the playstation 3 but are the best i have seen in the series multiplayer was also a lot of fun, all of the weapons had advantages and disadvantages and none felt over or underpowered. the perks and kill streaks that are included don't fell like call of duty rip offs but are unique. Brings nothing new to the table. The single player campaign kept reminding me of other shooters. Too often i had the feeling: "this feels like Gears of War." However, it is a bit broken, and you will run into a handful of amusing glitches. No game breaking moments for me, but you may need to reload if the glitch is bad enough.

The story is sub par, unfortunately. The characters are whiny and uninteresting. The plot is cut and paste alien invasion sci-fi. On the plus side, the fact that the protagonist is married with a son is interesting. You don't often see a family man in games.

Do you need a somewhat entertaining diversion this weekend? Rent or borrow it. I'm glad I did.

A mediocre FPS that desperately wants to be Half-Life 2.This game fails to inspire on all counts.Graphics, sound and story are all dull.Enemies are among the most forgettable I've ever seen.Played Blacksite or Quake? Then you've seen these baddies before. The weapons are average at best.A good length campaign and fairly tight controls can't save this disappoinment from being binned.

Despite showing off a good atmosphere and a decent story. Resistance 3 fails to innovate or make the player interested in something not unlike any other shooter.
The multiplayer still feels unbalanced and awkward and the SvE is gone completely, something that was a gamemaker for many people.

The multiplayer, yea if you can even call it that is unpolished and boring. You can't find anyone playing either. I imagine this is going to get worse with the release of Gears of War 3 followed by three other real shooters coming out soon. Insomniac is supposed to be coming out with a patch soon to fix the crippling bugs, but I won't be around to see it, this train wreck of a game is getting returned today. I think I'm done with Insomniac games, if this piece of garbage is the best they can come with. Expand

The biggest disappointment from the single player is the ending, which takes a mere minute and follows a cookie-cutter happy ending formula. The multiplayer abandons anything unique it had and adds a bunch of gimmicks like loadouts, killstreaks, and perks. Gone are the days of Resistance: Fall of Man when the multiplayer was something unique and incredibly fun. Resistance 3 even loses the one saving grace from Resistance 2's multiplayer component, the 8 player co-op. Overall just a disappointing experience, even though I went into it with already low expectations. Expand

Resistance 3 reeks of mediocrity. I beat part 1 and 2 and enjoyed them at the time of release. Maybe I was expecting too much, but usually PS3 exclusives are high-quality games. It was average in every way. Average graphics, sound, and average enemy AI. If you're a hardcore Resistance fan then pick it up, if not, wait til it's in the bargain bin.

Underwhelming for a franchise. Outdated in this day of filmic FPS games. Not the worst game of the year, but a fairly limp way to end the Trilogy. Graphics left much to the imagination.

Wow..this game just could not live up to modern shooters. From a single player perspective...it was OUTDATED! The only good thing about this game, is the promo commercial Kevin Butler did for it.

I really enjoyed the first game fall of man,the story was good you knew what to do and where to go,it looked nice was atmospheric and played really well, then the sequel came and everything that was good about the original went out the window to be replaced with a tedious trial and error game where you died every 10 seconds because enemies would just spawn out of nowhere all around you, andI really enjoyed the first game fall of man,the story was good you knew what to do and where to go,it looked nice was atmospheric and played really well, then the sequel came and everything that was good about the original went out the window to be replaced with a tedious trial and error game where you died every 10 seconds because enemies would just spawn out of nowhere all around you, and you'd be lost as to what do do and where to go,but you did occasionally get allies and hints but it was still very confusing at times, then number 3 games along which the reviews said brought back most of what was good about the original, well they were lying because the only thing bought back is the weapons wheel and everything else about it is more of the second game but even worse, this is one incredibly tedious game riddled with trial and error game-play,they do attempt to tell the story a bit,but it's lame and makes little sense as it doesn't tie in with the other games,it seams the developer unlike people in general hasn't learned from it's mistakes, but they probably don't care once they have your money,so more fool me for buying this P.O.S of a game,I'd say it's not even worth a rent,I am not sure about the multi-player,but the campaign is very bad in deed. They say the show must go on and in the Resistance world there are still questions to be answered, but the disappointing nature of this third instalment and its failure to deliver at retail most likely means this is the last release in the series. Perhaps such an end is the best option all round.

Resistance 3 does plenty. It's beautiful, thrilling, and-quite unexpectedly-contains one of the most memorable campaigns this side of Halo and Half-Life. In a year full of Sony-branded disappointments, Insomniac has produced an absolute gem.

As a conclusion to the franchise (no doubt pending an awkwardly justified fourth game and spin-offs), Resistance 3 manages to send it off as gracefully as possible.
