  • Summary: Rise of the Argonauts immerses gamers in a gladiatorial adventure, set in wondrously imagined vision of ancient Greece. With deep exploration and epic quests, players live a life of brutal combat as they lead a team of iconic warriors - including Jason, Hercules and Atalanta - through a world ruled by mythological gods. 1. In conclusion, Rise of the Argonauts is a strong RPG title that contains a different perspective on this genre with a classic story, realistic graphics and a truly majestic sound track with a Hollywood style of voice acting.
  2. 72
The combat is competent if not a bit repetitive and the story is entertaining from start to finish.
  3. With an adventure at only 10 hours long with no redeeming co-op component, your first run-through should be enough to get what you want out of the game, which is a shame cause Rise of the Argonauts, could have been so much better.
  4. Jason spends too much time talking and not nearly enough time fighting in this Greek mythology-inspired action-RPG.
  5. There isn't enough actual gaming here, so like a TV host facing the "stretch" signal, Argonauts tries to fill the void with talk.
  6. It’s simply too painful. At one point they might have had something special, but the entertaining combat and interesting leveling mechanics aren't good enough to prevent the constant, boring, grinding questing.
  7. 25
Absolutely nothing about Rise of the Argonauts stands out as special, and just when you think the game's about to take a turn for the better (at least in terms of reworking the Jason and the Argonauts story), its fundamental and technical problems -- including some annoying loading times in the Xbox 360 version -- bring it way back down.

The art style of Rise of the Argonauts is unique, characters have depth and personality, lore, narrative, dialogues and story are far from all the cliches we find in most games. The way they used the source material and mythology is interesting and original, the mix between RPG and Action/Adventure can be surprisingly fun and pleasant for players who like both styles, unfortunately the Action/Adventure moments are not on par with huge productions like God of War series and the RPG elements are not the most deep or complex on the market, but this game still has a lot of merit with the mix of both styles and the presentation of an epic, interesting, deep and unique mythological journey. The game has not the polish of bigger productions with bigger budges on their back, but with a pretty nice and deep story, interesting and charismatic characters, expressive atmosphere and pleasant gameplay, Rise of the Argonauts is for sure a game with a lot of "heart and soul" . Not so bad at all. It's not a beautiful game but the world design is good. It's not really an rpg, it's an action game. The battles are fun and there's a lot of story and dialogue. The story and dialogue are... decent. Expand
