Debuting at $40, Tekken Hybrid isn't a bad deal considering you are getting a feature film, an HD remake of a complete game, and a fantastic preview of a new one. Still, you have to be a pretty major Tekken fan to invest in this unique bundle that smacks of marketing hype – not that that's necessarily bad.
Even though the visual aren't all that impressive, this is a great HD version of a superb fighting game, backed up by a demo that definitely raises expectations for the upcoming Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Tekken: Blood Vengeance is a spectacular movie, but it doesn't stay as interesting in between fight scenes.
Tekken Hybrid costs forty dollars, which is a reasonable price considering you're getting a full game, a full movie, and a demo for Tekken Tag Tournament 2. If you're a Tekken fan, this is probably worth checking out. If not, there's a small chance Tekken Prologue might convert you.
Tekken Hybrid offers all that a Tekken fan could desire: a 3D film, a revamped classic and a slice of the future of the series. Tekken: Blood Vengeance delivers great action scenes, but as a movie the story is not as interesting as it should. On the other hand, the HD version of Tekken Tag Tournament allow us to recover a great classic of the fighting genre, although it's clearly lacking an online mode. Finally, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Prologue is just a demo of what's comming next year, but we're sure fans will want to put their hands on as soon as possible. In the end, a good package that could be much better.
Those who absolutely must have a slice of Tekken action this year will no doubt find something to enjoy in Tekken Hybrid. The game is a rather thin package that won't appeal to anyone unaccustomed to the series, and indeed, this would be a terrible place for them to start.
Although fans may be happy with the contents offered by Tekken Hybrid, an HD remake and an awful CG movie surely won't be enough for the majority of PS3 owners.
I honestly don't know why anyone would buy Tekken Hybrid. If you love Tekken Tag Tournament, there's no reason to drop $40 on this head scratcher when there's a likely superior, current sequel in the cards that will offer the online play and other mod cons that this remaster doesn't. The "prologue" should have been a free download.
SummaryTekken Hybrid contains the remake of Tekken Tag Tournament joined with the the 3D feature film Tekken Blood Vengeance 3D exclusively on the PlayStation 3.
