Would have had everything necessary to become a great game, but it seems there was to little time for production. The game got some serious graphical and synchronization issues and lacks any passion in storytelling. It is just boring. There are only two good things about his game: the fighting system is really great with a lot of weapons and combos and the coop-mode is really fun to play. But that's it. Really poor what the studio has made out of so much potential.
At best, The Cursed Crusade is mediocre. The plot is bland, but the cut scenes try to shove the story down your throat at every opportunity, causing an adverse reaction
This game is extremely underrated. It was great fun.
Story: Nothing special, but it is decent enough to want to know what happens next. The character Esteban Noviembre is pretty much a stereotype... But he's funny, and you don't mind.
Gameplay: A very nice swordfighting game, with many kinds of weapons (long sword, short sword and shield, double sword, axe, maze, etc.) and combos (many combos for each style of fighting). It has a very nice split-screen coop, one of the most fun of the generation, in my opinion.
Sound: Quite decent soundtrack, it even includes a link to download the music of the game online. That's a very nice detail! Sound effects are nice, the voice acting is credible (english voices only).
Length: Around 7-8 hours, with three different difficulties. It also has collectables, and you improve your character with combos and other features, which enables customization and tricks you to keep playing to improve your character to the 100%.
The only negative point I found was that it ends in a cliffhanger, since a sequel was probably going to be developed but it never came out. So it makes the player wonder what would happen next (e.g. Shenmue II...)
A boring and repetitive combat system and and a subpar technical production make The Cursed Crusade an avoidable game; a wasted opportunity to represent a great and charismatic historical period.
It's too bad, because Cursed Crusade has fleetingly interesting ideas, like forcing you to push a very slow-moving mantlet towards an enemy's defensive line, or the way the timing of tapping out combo strings actually encourages thoughtful player response. Co-op can actually be fun in short bursts with a friend, and even the detailed aesthetic is surprisingly competent.
A lethargic combat experience marred further by grotesque bugs, The Cursed Crusade is a game that truly does feel cursed, like no amount of hard work would put it right.
On paper, the ideas that went into this its creation must have come from a place of passion and excitement for a rich period in history. But then I remember that I actually played this unlikable, unfair, and unfinished game for many, many miserable hours, and the only person I feel bad for is me. Don't go near this thing, or else you'll be cursed with damnation, too.
Tenho me divertido com ele.
The game has an interesting concept, that of a Co-Op enabled third person action fighting story based game set during the Crusades. It also has the foundations for an interesting combat mechanic, but unfortunately the application doesn't realise the concept well enough. While it plays quite well, there's an odd mechanic where when you block an opponents attack, you both go into some weird frozen pose with them while the game waits for you to press a button prompt. This might have been okay if it was occaasional, but it happens ALL the time during combat and gets old fast, and is certainly not the better for it as it destroys any flow of the fight. While its great that there's so many weapon and shield varations and combos, such as single handed, single handed with shield, duel wielding, two handed weapons, crossbow etc, the method of selecting weapons using the D-pad, including the diagonals, isn't ideal and ultimately a bit hit and miss, that can have you literally floundering to get the weapons you want equipped in the heat of battle..
There's a couple of other apects to the game that let it down a bit, such as the dreadful music and buges that were never fixed, such as everytime you load the game, you have to turn all the music and sound effects up, because they always revert to zero when you turn the game off, it never saves your preferences or even has them turned up by default, which was very poor.
There is some enjoymant to be had from the game. I like the fact that in Co-Op it's split screen(Online Co-Op is also available),and there's some nice/satisfying touches, such as when you and your partner perform a joint finish move, the screen goes full screen while you perform them.
There will be people who enjoy this game, and i can see why they would, but the game could have benefitted more time in development and a bigger budget to see the concept polished and properly realised, but as it is, despite its ability to give some degree of entertainment, for its faults and imperfections it gets a 5.
Aside from some interesting concepts and interesting character progression, this game is a mess. Laughable dialogue, absolutely ridiculous and incoherent story, stupid characters, totally broken combat, abominable effects...This game is just in shambles. It has some interesting ideas, but the execution is **** man...terrible.
A totally bland and buggy game, Cursed Crusade demonstrates that trying to be like the big boys without a really unique IP will **** you over every time. There just inst anything here that you cant get a lot better somewhere else. Its no some much bad as ****
unplayable game in every way the graphics are not good the camera and game play are so terrible i don't know what were the developers thinking when they were making this game
