  1. During a somewhat dismal summer release schedule, Transformers: War for Cybertron is a bright spot and, like I said before, truly deserves a look.
  2. Transformers: War for Cybertron is not only the best Transformers game next-gen gamers can play, it is also one of the most fulfilling and challenging action-shooters I've played in years and a definite purchase, especially if you have any love of the Transformers franchise.
  3. High Moon managed to recreate a classic formula in a different medium and make an extremely large amount of fans very happy. This is a great big step in the right direction for the franchise and brand-owner Hasbro knows it.

This is a surprise, dark horse contender for best way to spend your time online this summer.

Transformers: The War for Cybertron is definitely a love-letter to fans of the G1 cartoon series. All of your favorite characters are here and somehow mixed in with a genuinely fun and competent shooter.

High Moon studios has delivered a good third-person shooter that uses a lot of recognisable elements from the original 80's cartoon. The game is suitable for everyone, so people that are new to the franchise will have just as much fun as hardcore transformers fans.

Finally Transformers have a game with great quality, and to achieve that they had to flee from the movie adaptations.
  8. Ultimately, Transformers: War for Cybertron is a game for Transformers fans made by Transformers fans.
  9. Transformers: War For Cybertron is damn near everything I would have asked for from a Transformers video game. High Moon Studios managed to create a living & breathing world – I know, kind of ironic for a game about robots, isn't it – that did justice to the source material.

This Transformers game is really great. It's got many details, a great multiplayer, two different stories and fine gameplay. Fans of the movies and the whole franchise can buy this game without any problem. This is probably the Transformers game everyone was waiting for!
  11. War for Cybertron isn't a perfect game, but it fulfills my youthful fantasies in a way that has me believing the developers had a window into my boyhood imagination.
  12. Yes, fanboys, it's okay to pick this one up. Transformers, Roll Out!

Everything from the bickering banter between Starscream and Megatron, the cold calculated communiques from Soundwave, or the heavy-handed speeches from Optimus to rally his Autobots, it's all here. War for Cybertron is an entertaining game that's just as enjoyable as it is playable.
  14. At this point, I'd say that any game made by High Moon Studios should probably be given your due attention; this is the second time they've managed to crush our skepticism and come through in fine shape.
  15. Tranformers: War for Cybertron is a great first episode of a new saga. The game is quite enjoyable, even if it lacks some big moment. It also has a nice multiplayer mode, surprisingly complete and well built.
  16. Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)
With a pretty lean summer of releases, Cybertron is among the best we're going to see for a while. [Sept 2010, p.78]
  17. It's the first game I've played that nails the personality of the bots and it genuinely delivers a solid gaming experience alongside the nostalgia.
  18. Fortunately, this is not one of those failed adaptations and the fans have plenty to enjoy.
  19. If there's any one thing that can be stated about Transformers: War for Cybertron, it's that you should buy this game. The single player campaign is good, and the multiplayer portion is a surprise hit.
  20. So is the game worth buying? If you are a Transformers fan, skip to Option A, if you are not, Option B is for you.
  21. Don't expect anything mind-blowing here, but War for Cybertron isn't just good for a licensed game, it's a good shooter first with Transformers icing on top.

Benefits from breathless pacing and an impressive wealth of stuff going on. [Issue#194, p.90]
  23. Transformers: War for Cybertron focuses on intense shooting action and sets the example for the Transformers-license. The story isn't really interesting, but gives you more fun and variation than you would expect. Add an excellent multiplayer mode tot the whole and you got a game that will drag you through these summer days.

On the whole, War for Cybertron is a solid, in-your-face shooter that goes out of its way to appeal to longtime fans of the franchise.
  25. A great action game that borrows elements from all sorts of different titles, without losing that unique Transformers feeling.
  26. Transformers War for Cybertron isn't a bad game, nor is it something exceptional. It's another third person shooter that fans might enjoy, given the satisfactory storyline and some excellent voice talent. If you're a Transformers fanboy and would love to fight alongside your fellow Autobots, then this is the game for you.
  27. Now this doesn't mean 'Transformers: War for Cybertron' is a perfect game. Far from it, as it suffers from glitchy A.I. behaviour, claustrophobic environments, and some constant online lag, but as it stands, it is still one of the best "Transformers" games ever made, and joy to play for any long time fan.
  28. Transformers: War for Cybertron was set to be a great game. However, with the massive amounts of dropped matches and game crashes I experienced in multiplayer, it makes it a difficult game to really rely on and return to regularly.
  29. A well made homage to the Transformers IP that fails to innovate but succeeds, nonetheless. True Transformers fans should really consider this title, as it tells the origin story of their favorite sentient mechas.

It's not bad, exactly, and a lot of people are going to have fun with it just by virtue of the fact that they get to play as an awesome Transformer. It's just not as good as it could be.
  31. Even with the game's various problems I kept finding myself excited to play and looking forward to the next chapter to see which characters would be along for the ride.
  32. The best game to ever don the Transformers logo.
  33. A nice online experience but a trivial main adventure, dull and repetitious. If you are not scared by creepy graphics, and you like multiplayer madness, you should give Transformers a chance.
  34. What goes around, comes around: It wasn't the best idea to implement an outstanding intro just in front of the mediocre game graphics. Camera, handling and repetitive gameplay are weak points, but nevertheless it seems to be the best Transformers game in ages.
  35. The game is not without its growing pains as the graphics suffer at times, offline co-op is absent and the Multiplayer can become a lag fest. However when the dust settles and you step past these issues, you are left with one of the most enjoyable games featuring transforming robots in recent memory.
  36. Playstation Official Magazine UK
Never destined for greatness, but hugely likeable despite the flaws. [Aug 2010, p.110]
  37. Playstation Official Magazine Australia
Far from mindless but further from brilliance, War for Cyberton is fun without being engaging, ideal for an undemanding audience. [September 2010 p.76]
  38. As a shooter, Transformers is purely about running and gunning, and the lack of strategy causes problems with difficulty-balancing.
  39. There's a lot here for fans of the Transformers to admire, but strip away the pop culture veneer and War for Cybertron is a slightly above par entry in the annals of gaming.
  40. The well-realized license in this third-person shooter can hide the myriad problems for only so long.
  41. PSM3 Magazine UK
It gets the job done. [Sept 2010, p.94]
  42. Transformers : War for Cybertron is a solid TPS, although a quite straightforward one if you play it alone. Going multiplayer gives it added depth, since using and mixing powers in teamplay make it more interesting to play. Alas, its lack of inspiration in terms of level design, its annoying frame rate issues, improvable story and french voice acting, as well as its average production values and too few multiplayer maps are a disappointment. However, for absolute fans of the franchise, it remains one of if not the best adaptation of the show, giving back their pride to Autobots and Decepticons!
  43. Its campaign is only worth seeing through if you're extremely curious to see how it ties into some of the other Transformers lore out there, and the multiplayer is solid, if perhaps a bit uninspired. It's a good diversion that'll keep you engaged for a few days, but don't go in expecting long-term excitement.
  44. Overall the game feels a little half baked to me, and not something I'd suggest to anyone outside of the hardcore Transformer fan base.
  45. Though one could claim that the campaign and online rewards/achievements and the mediocre level of character customization online make the game worth looking into, in truth, this is a title that doesn't warrant your attention unless you're starved for a taste of Transformers flavour and the most basic gaming experience.

It can be suprisingly hard sometimes, and does retain some re-playability to unlock everything. Multiplayer is very well done, so more people should head out and go play this! Full Review »

Isn't it surprising that Transformers, of all things, has a solid video game? The singleplayer has great gameplay but the environments feelIsn't it surprising that Transformers, of all things, has a solid video game? The singleplayer has great gameplay but the environments feel repetitive. But this is Cybertron, a technical planet so give it a break. The story is too OK but darker. However, I find the Decepticon campaign humorous because of how the Decepticons act, especially Starscream. The story has co-op, but online only (why?). Horde mode is also fun. And another thing I like about online is that you can create (to an extent) your own Transformer. This may sound nerdy, but I always wanted my dream Transformers come to life. War for Cybertron is a great game. Roll out! Full Review »
