Turok is one of those games where as soon as you spot an enemy (even if they have their back turned to you) the enemy picks up their weapon and shoots you and doesn't miss. This, I think, is the most frustrating part of the game. That and the look sensitivity. Totally strange. Dunno what it is. You will die ALOT. Yup Yup. And it has the stupidest pre-final battle i've ever seen. Has a very old school feel to the game, the weapons are boring and the enemies are drab and can seemingly withstand 3 shots with a shotgun at close range. If this was a launch title for one of the new consoles I might have scored it higher, but after the recent crop of shooters (CoD4, Orange Box, Crysis) the bar has been raise well beyond the reach of this generally poor effort. Bo-ring. THIS is the best idea you could come up with given such a great franchise? A bad rip-off of Aliens + Jurassic Park? Laa-aame.

Out in the great sea of first-person-shooters, Turok is a very, very weak effort. The graphics are bog standard, the difficulty is unpredictable and prone to sudden spikes, the human enemy AI is unbelievably bad, the controls feel clunky and the look sensitivity feels like a wet fish slipping through your fingers. NO!NO!NO! I really looked forward to play this game but it came down as a biiiiiiiiiig disappointment! Controls are just terrible! I play the first 3 Levels and then quit. I would not let this game destroy my good memories about the Turok games of the 90s and 2000 years!

No, it's not going to go head-to-head with the onslaught of great FPSes we saw at the end of last year (though its slick, well-designed, robust multiplayer should give it some legs). But the unusual premise, solid writing, and nicely varied play make it worth a look for shooter fans looking for that next fix.
  2. It doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, but working within its accepted elements it does a great job of dumping you in the jungle and making you feel like you’re fighting for your life.

Even playing on the easiest setting, the difficulty regularly spikes to bowel-clenching impossibility. This wouldn't be so bad if the checkpoints flowed a little more freely, as most of the difficulty spikes tend to arrive after a protracted battle has already left you tattered and bleeding.
