In a disorganized and ghostly city, those foolish, desperate, or unlucky enough to walk the streets lay prey to Britain’s most elusive predators: the vampires. Emerging from the chaos, a tormented figure awakens. You are Jonathan E. Reid, a high-ranking military surgeon transformed into a vampire upon his return home from the frontline. Explore the darkly atmospheric streets of early 20th century London, and interact with a multitude of characters with their own identities and importance. Accept and fulfill the missions they give you, but don’t forget: sooner or later, you will have to feed, and make a difficult choice... who will be your prey? Absolutely all characters in the game are potential victims of your vampiric lust. Carefully study the habits of your next victim, his or her relationships with other characters, and set up your strategy to feed, unnoticed: seduce them, change their daily habits, or make sure they end up alone in a dark street… Be careful who you choose to hunt, as they will be gone forever, and their death will impact in a meaningful way the world that surrounds you. Feeding on human blood will not just keep you 'alive;' it will also unlock new vampiric powers to use. [Focus Home]… Expand

Vampyr - Official Launch Trailer
Autoplay On Off
Jun 18, 2018Vampyr is the vampire story that I’ve waited for many, many years for. As a fan of Anne Rice and the deeper tales around vampires – and as a fan of stories that are focused on moral conflict and consequence, Dontnod have crafted something that feels custom-designed for me.
Jun 5, 2018Vampyr is a captivating title with a fluid mix of narrative and game mechanics that, although not always successful, impresses with its boldness and dedication. With a fun combat system, simple but effective role mechanics and a difficulty system that enters into direct symbiosis with the temptation for blood of the vampire myth.
Jun 7, 2018After the touching emotional drama of Dontnod’s previous game – the coming-of-age adventure Life Is Strange – Vampyr’s ambitious but awkward chin-stroking is disappointingly inert, while its failure to reconcile its ethical hand-wringing with its gratuitous combat leaves it as conflicted as its undead protagonist.
Jun 5, 2018I would have honestly put a 8-9 to this masterpiece, but after reading some of the non-sense 0 and 1 reviews I really got pissed by the factI would have honestly put a 8-9 to this masterpiece, but after reading some of the non-sense 0 and 1 reviews I really got pissed by the fact the User Score is so low due to the people who never bought and played the game, but still review it with 0 'cause LiS apparently is now "weak" for them or the price of the game "should" be 25$ (even lower than the newest indies). If you want to buy it cheaper you can wait and do it later, no need to rant here.
Now let me tell you that Vampyr is totally worth it for 45-50€, which is the price for an AA (like Kingdom Come: Deliverance for example). This is another masterpiece made by Dontnod. Intriguing story with choices and consequences, wonderful level design and awesome soulslike combat. It may be underrated at first just like Prey was for Bethesda, but you know you're missing something if you don't play it.… Expand

Vampyr has great atmosphereVampyr is one of those games that is actually quite decent and entertaining, but could have been so much more.
Vampyr has great atmosphere (rarely has a game been this dark and exuding despair), a very well written and interesting story with really believable characters, and the "consequences system" (it does matter quite a lot whom you kill or spare, and if you play more as a doctor or a vampire) is a novel and nice twist in the RPG genre.
This game being an "action RPG" though, the combat is frustratingly lackluster. Enemy hit tracking is ridiculous, there is no "stagger mechanic" (you can stun enemies with specific weapons, but you cannot interrupt enemy attacks with your own at all; well, at least the enemies can stagger you, which they will do all the time, but you as the player have no option to do so), and overall animations / effects in combat are rather underwhelming (not bad at all, just "meh"). Then there are boss fights, which just add insult to injury. Boss fights emphasize all the shortcomings the combat system has: 90% of boss fights you will frantically hammer the dodge button to get away from the ridiculous hit tracking of the bosses, while not even getting two or three hits in yourself in succession, because all bosses have instant, non-telegraphed push-back attacks.
All in all, Vampyr is an entertaining game with an amazing atmosphere and story, that is unfortunately counteracted by the games horrible combat system. As much as I want to give the game a higher score for what it does right, the negatives are weighting Vampyr down too much to justify more than a 7/10.… Expand
Jun 12, 2018This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Excellent Story, bad delivery.
I won't bore you with all the mundane details that my surrounding colleagues have laid out for you. I will assume by the time you read this little blurb that you already know the premise of the game.
set in 1918 -
Jonathan Reid --
Vampire / Doctor --
Got it... good. Let's continue.
I will simply explain what happened to me.
I bought the game with high expectations of a good bit of entertainment coming my way.
I started to play, and found my self perplexed and puzzled. The main character has just realized he cannot die and is trying to wrap his head around what he possibly is, but somehow, without any instruction, explanation, or assistance he is able to evolve his vampiric abilities. As I went a little further in the game to the first of many stiff and horrible combat situations, I found that this was not the game for me.
So like some other colleagues, I tried to take the game back. i soon found that gamestop's return policy was lacking, and sorely I was stuck with a game that did not have the polish i needed in most of the games I have played. This is not something I would have wanted to pay full price for.
So now I am stuck with a game that no longer want. Someone has to pay!
I made up in my mind that would play the game, but I would give 'no quarter' to any and all NPC's in my path. I was on a mission to kill and suck dry all humans and vampires alike, and I held true to that statement.
But something started to happen. I found that I was actually being drawn into the story and wanted to see how it unfolded. However, the game play was the factor that kept taking me out of the immersion I sought.
Here were some of the issues:
-Stiff; repetitive combat.
-Collision detection issues.
-Repetitive NPC use (gets pretty bad when you have chaos level districts ) - Same Monster in 1 new skin, and possibly a slightly higher level, but no real difference in the end.
-Poor Game mechanics - FINGER POINTING -The game seemed to continually remind you when you did something bad, like kill a human character, and it got pretty annoying to see the message every time you made the choice to suck someone dry, But there was NEVER a message to specify letting them live, or helping them out would better help the surrounding area. They give you a choice, but point the finger at you telling you that you have done something bad (and that there would be consequences for what you did), without saying your a bad guy!
-Poor Item crafting mechanics - Make 3rd to 4th level weapons and never worry - The powers and RPG elements are pretty cut and dry. Since I went on a killing spree, I eventually made it to level 48, and I was pretty powerful with a limited set of powers selected. The item customization was pretty broken. Like the old game RAGE..level up that one weapon (Shotgun w/ explosive rounds in Rage, or the CLUB in Vampyr) and you pretty much WRECK the enemies for the rest of the game. I did not have to rely on my powers, and enemy levels were not a factor as I was pretty OP.
This, in turn, took away from the story. I was breezing through situations, not giving a care in the world to my very existence. I was the master and didn't care. When you find a loop hole like this in games you tend to not fear death, and thus further disconnect yourself from the true purpose of the game.
Story wise, I was hooked. The characters in game are nice and complex. They have depth, and that is what the developers hoped you would see and feel. Thus, it would have made it hard for you to suck them dry. I, on the other hand, harbored ill will at both the game, and gamestop, so it was easy to kill every last one of them, though you will need a little strategy to do that task as you could put yourself in a bind if you kill a whole district too fast and you do not have the correct level weapons or powers.
The ending was confusing, the last boss, was easy to read, and sadly a few more levels than myself, but I had no idea why they were the end boss, and there was no real mention of them until literally at the very end in a cryptic conversation with your maker.
These questions come out, but are not answered. It seemed severely rushed and left me scratching my head.
So we just add a random new boss at the very end with no context? Fine.....
The epilogue was a kind change. This really intrigued me as I was not ready for a detailed ending such as that.
I am happy for the story, and sad at the effort it took for me to learn of it. I would have had a better time watching the whole thing play out on someone Youtube channel and saved my $60.00.
The game is a bargin if you get it used after waiting a month... trust me, that would be the adequate price for it. I have completed my mission and I encourage all to try and kill all the people, you will find some cool twist and turns.… Expand
