A long and fun game, albeit one with a lack of properly executed back touch features and filled with graphical mediocrity. Skipping this will not make your heart skip a beat – we promise.
Why so much hate on this game? I found this game to be an enjoyable and an overall good experience. This game deserves much more credit than the critics and a lot of the reviews gave it.
I think that people downvoiting this game made a big mistake. I put 10 just to correct a little bit a score. My general score is 7/10 because of the fps drop. But game mostly runs smoothly. Every hackslash person who likes diablo, fable, torchlight and other arpgs would love this. It's a mix between torchlight and d2(3). A lot of loot, nice system, enemies are abundant. It's excellent on the go to kill few monsters. I haven't tested MP, because i don't like to play that way. Items are various and useful in some build or order. Drops are abundant, which makes you look into your inventory fairly often (which i like despite other reviews). Everything has it's category and it's easy to compare items with one equiped. For me, this is perfect, a must have for vita system. One more thing: PRICE!!! I payed 15€ for the game, and im happy with that. Do not play something weird, because over 15€ it is really a waste of money. Game value is not more than that. It is what it is.
Clearly not one of the best launch games for PS Vita, Dungeon Hunter: Alliance is just a poor dungeon crawler with lots of glitches and technical problems.
Despite lengthy loading times, problematic multiplayer and a dull story, there's definitely some fun and a decent amount of gameplay hidden deep inside the depths of Dungeon Hunter: Alliance for serious fans of the dungeon crawler genre. For the rest, it would be wise to sheath that sword and wait for a discount or significant patch, because even with the additional elements added to the game, the lack of overall improvement just doesn't justify the nearly quadrupled cost from the previous versions, and new functions feel added on for the sake of adding rather than improvement.
Compared to some of the games that it has decided to price itself against, Dungeon Hunter: Alliance looks absolutely pitiful. Sitting this next to Uncharted, Army Corps of Hell or even Ubisoft's own Lumines, exposes Alliance for the cheap, nasty, outdated and outclassed little con job that it is. Expensive at a quarter of the price, this embarrassing waste of space has no business pretending to be a full retail game.
Definitely not the best game for PS Vita but one of the good ones. Can be repetitive sometimes and you use same mechanics to defeat most of your opponents... but on the other hand this is the only dungeon crawler on PSV, and somehow can be very addictive. This game is one of the few I have spent most of the time playing on the vita (also Gravity Rush, Lumines, Super ****). Very decent graphics and sound. Worth playing especially with the price where it is now. Deserves very strong 7.5 or 8 (marked 10 to pull up its score)
I don't know why people hate this game so much. It's got some sort of diablo like, and on today's vita, there's no other choices. The graphic's quite good and the skill mechanic allow you to build up for different style. Good game for me, way better than the ios version.
Despite the lack of character customisation, this title is fairly good for a simple and quite basic dungeon crawler.A standard, and therefore forgettable, fantasy story aside,DH:A is almost a trip down memory lane except on a **** it's a far cry from todays Diablos and Torchlights.
Visually it's acceptable for a PSP release, but I don't think it's good enough to be a Vita game. Nothing stood out, which I think for the RPG genre it really needs to be something special. On a personal note, I found it very disappointing that it's a port of the same **** it's more expensive for the Vita.
I've spend about 5 hours on this game. At first it looks fine, action rpg on the go. but flaws soon became apparent. What bugs me the most is that at least half of them could be addressed with an update, but I guess Ubisoft doesn't care, he got our money after all, end of story for them.
I started with mage class, and this is where part of the problem comes from, the game is not made for ranged class. First rule of ranged class is to keep enemies at the distance. Well, here it's going to bite you in the posterior. Enemies have range where they'll follow you, rather short one. If you go beyond it, while trying to keep beyond their reach because you're ranged, they'll stop and go back where they came from. What's bad about it is, they heal up when they "loose" interest. So if you have higher class of enemy in front of you that's not funny. Now, you could run around them to keep, but unlike let's say Diablo, that has open spaces, here 90% of levels are actually paths that you must follow, there is no terrain to be explored, just go straight. That also makes it difficult to maneuver, and in some cases impossible. When I gave up I was in a cavern that's so narrow that only one character can pass, I have two of those higher class enemies in front of me. If I shoot and backpedal a bit they'll reset and I have done nothing. If I don't backpedal they'll block me from moving at all and kill me in few hits (already happened 5-6 times, then I gave up).
Oh, they also have some attack that stuns you, when that happens you get picture of vita on the screen and text "shake". Shake how? Left - right? Up - down? Forward - backward? Don't know, nothing seemed to work, it lasts the same if I don't do anything at all. And they can repeat it for as long as they want, or their random number generator tells them to. I got killed because that was the only move they used, it stuns you and takes about 1/6 - 1/5 of your health. I wish I had some move that could stop them like that, without cooldown... I guess some of these issues wouldn't be an issue if I chose warrior class, he needs to be next to enemy to hit it after all. But I think that range reset thing could be fixed by simply extending it few times, or at least disable their healing.
There are more things, like zoom reset. You can zoom and unzoom with pinch gesture (like on cell phone), of course, when you play it's better to see further away so you un zoom (but even like this ranged enemies can shoot at you from beyond your sight range). Then you come on some plot part that something like cinematic and when you get control back your zoom is reset and you have to repeat it. To make it better I have to try it few times before it actually figures I want to change zoom.
Then there's level imbalance... I was following story, killing everything along the way and doing quests but still, I came to part of the game where enemies were level 9 and I was level 7... Was I supposed to grind few levels? I don't know, there wasn't any kind of hint about it...
Also, every so often game starts to loose frames, it happens randomly, even without any enemy on screen.
All in all, if you get it for free great, it's OK, but after paying for this game... I feel like an idiot...
SummaryThe world of Gothicus is in the suffocating grip of a queen bent on hellish destruction. In Dungeon Hunter: Alliance on PlayStation 3, your destiny and this tormented land depend on your ability to forge a fighting unit strong enough to withstand anything the forces of the netherworld can throw at it.
