As Switch Galaxy Ultra shows, that may not be the perfect formula, but it's enough to make an alright game.

There is certainly a good game in Switch Galaxy Ultra, it is rather addictive and fantastic on a visual level, but it's likely that you won't want to spend much time with it as it is a fairly repetitive game with not much variety on offer. Perhaps use your reflexes and scoop this up when it's at a cheaper price point.

Switch Galaxy Ultra is a revamp of the PS Mobile title Switch Galaxy, which itself was a follow-up to the iOS/Android game called Switch. This successor offers more impressive visuals and more levels, but the flawed structure, controls, and general repetitiveness result in a wreck on the track.

With the visual aesthetic of Wipeout and the promise of a more story driven approach and a leveling system for your ships I was very excited only to succumb to total disappointment. This simple game boils down to a mere 4 controls. Left right brake and boost. The gameplay is extremely bland, dodging barriers and enemies, and then to enter a "wormhole" mode that leaves you frustrated as its lack of visual depth and dimension make the all to precious items you pick up there wildly difficult to hit, as you can't tell where they actually are. This coupled with the overly wordy comic scenes and the constant reminder that you are not on the PSN (between every race it prompts you to log in....no matter what network functions can not be disabled) when you are away from home, or the network is down. STAY AWAY. PERIOD. Full Review »

In space, nobody can hear you speed...

Ok, like many of you,the first thought That crossed my mind was the "Wipeout" series.
In space, nobody can hear you speed...

Ok, like many of you,the first thought That crossed my mind was the "Wipeout" series. Futuristic,gravity-defying hovercraft never gets old.So I was pleasantly surprised to find out that a couple of folks who worked on this game had actually worked on Wipeout previously! In paticular, individuals who designed the cars and worked on the music, which were two of the main hook points of the game. But there is so much more to this speed game than just flying cars. The guys at Atomicom chose well and did a great job of putting it all together.
Now,don't get me wrong, there was an actual story told here, but to be honest,I was so eager to "get to the action" that I went from reading every one of the comic book styled, storyboards, to skipping pages, then I found myself abandoning my efforts to keep up with the story all together.what I've been able to gather is that your character is a man named Vince,he has been racing since a very young age,and though he is something of a moral ambiguity,he knows what he is doing.

"Switch Galaxy Ultra" runs at 60FPS and 1080p,which is rare for a handheld game to utilize both, let alone one. So in this case the promise of "PS3 Quality Graphics" was more than delivered. This game is absolutely beautiful!, Outer space actually looks like it,as well as the tracks and especially the vehicles. I've seen PS3 games that didn't have this much detail. The light reflections, sharpness of colors. It's the attention to detail that only an HD image can produce.
Aside from all of the bells and whistles, "switch" provides one of the easiest control schemes in Vitas history. All you have to do basically is switch lanes from left/right or vise-versa,to avoid crashing into barriers which will end your game.As for the bells & whistles part there are keys which when matched with the color of the barrier will allow you to pass through safely, Turbo pads (a'la Wipeout) will grant you that extra boost in speed, as well as the games currency, which you can use to purchase upgrades such as speed and buy new ships as well.

Good: beautiful graphics, great attention to detail.
Bad: storyline is hard to get into, and it drags on a bit...

Overall: "Switch Galaxy Ultra", is a fast-paced game which requires quick reflexes. If you enjoyed the Wipeout series you will love the visuals.Story drags on a bit but just skip right to the action. Any racing fan, speed freak,or displaced "Wipeout" fan will feel right at home.
