This is my first retail game for my new Vita and I'm pretty happy with both the game and the handheld. The twin sticks are going to allow gamers to play our favorite action and FPS games in a way that was never possible on previous mobile platforms. Unit 13 is a great first effort for the genre and I can't wait to see what's next.
Unit 13 is actually a pretty awesome game. What I like about the game is how challenging it is, and the leveling system. Your stats (maybe one bar of sometime like stealth, but only one little bar for different characters) don't increase general stats, but just give you different skills, streaks, weapons, and weapon accessories, but it's better than nothing. There is a nice class system that offers different operatives to play as, to play missions in their style and gameplay, and some missions are easier with a specific operative. There isn't a story in the game, but there are plenty of missions to try. There are several normal missions, each of them vary, small, large, or medium in length, difficulty as well. They get harder and harder. There's also different things to do, playing co-op missions, (public and with friends online) high value targets, tough missions with no checkpoints and to kill a certain target, and daily missions that are challenging missions that change everyday. I have to say, this game is pretty cool, I really recommend you get this game if you have a PS Vita.
Especially since the game is only 17 bucks on the psn store!
The first look at Unit 13 might have been daunting, but now I don´t
want to miss the game on my memory card. The elegance that's missing
in the presentation can be found in the puristic, unpretentious flow
of the game's design.
The problem is the level design in the game is absurdly old hat. While there are a handful of mission types, like Direct Action, Covert, and High Value Target, the levels they take place in and the related objectives are painfully bland. "Move to this point and activate this switch. Now go down the stairs and activate this other switch." Blah, blah, blah… [April 2012, p73]
Incredibly fantastic game. What a great game to get with the Vita. Plenty of missions and upgradeable characters and weaponry. Tight cover based fire fights with above average ai. A must get for new Vita owners.
This game is not bad, but not special either. The story is non-existent as you just go through levels completing small tasks without any overarching story. The gameplay is solid with an option to go loud or quiet. The visuals are also pretty solid, not the best. This game is fun when playing the 2-player co-op multiplayer levels. Overall, it's a solid game that is great in short bursts.
A fast pace third person shooter which relies on you to make the correct decision now and then. Despite repeatedly using the same maps over and over you can still enjoy killing, assassinating, blowing someone up and even busting your moves on the dance floor with your enemies. Overall the game play is great, the controls are nice using a little of the touch screen just to remind us it is on the PS VITA.
Honestly it's pretty rubbish. Very few maps, repetitive objectives, terrible checkpoint system, abysmal story and terrible Ai. On the other hand it has mostly good controls, fun gunplay (for about 5 minutes) and pretty good graphics for the Vita. The Cons outweigh the pros making it feel frustrating and a chore to play. First few missions are ok but the rest of the game quickly gets boring.
I seldom give poor score and I have to give this game a poor score. First of all, this game plays like those games on your phone, but only with way better control and better graphics. Expect no story from this game, there are just individual missions with objectives that keep repeating. You will see the same stages over and over again. There are no development of characters and there are no personality in them, you can actually ignore what all the characters say and the game would be the same. I am not impressed with this PS Vita exclusive and and I expect more from a Vita exclusive. Huge disappointment.
