  • Summary: With four people joining in, the number of onscreen explosions, pig-speech comments, and all-around nuttiness nearly lifts the game into the same sphere of quality as Worms or Bomberman.

  1. It's not one of those blockbuster games that everyone must have but it is a somewhat original take on a genre that continues to provide fun and entertainment.
  2. The magical animal that provides us with pork, ham, bacon and sausage now gives us a goodly bit of amusement.
  3. The graphics are however, pretty good, the sounds are great and the gameplay is also pretty good.
  4. Although Hogs is far from state-of-the-art, it's definitely fun and worth a look if you want something different and smart.
  5. With four people joining in, the number of onscreen explosions, pig-speech comments, and all-around nuttiness nearly lifts the game into the same sphere of quality as "Worms" or "Bomberman."
  6. Pork is generally one of my favorite foods, but it doesn't seem to translate to much of a game.
  7. The pig jokes get old quick and the gameplay isn't better than most other strategy games. What's left is an average playing game that winds up making you feel like a complete ham.

Hogs of War is amazing, funny and enjoyable! I love the pig speech and comments especially while the team is losing. The single player is about taking over islands to control the "swill" which is beneath the islands, you pick a team, and then fight against other nation to take control of the islands, the pig nations include green, which is the British Empire, blue which is France, light blue is the US with southern accents, yellow is Japan, grey is Imperial Germany and red is Russia, and I have been playing the campaign with my Soviet Hogs. I wish there were structures on the levels though, to make more sense, but believe me, the single player is so much fun to play. You should use an engineer, 2 snipers, 1 medic and the other is up to you (which I use the heavy weapons class for that one), but don't have 2 medics. Your pigs will rank up and get better weapons as you play and get medals. 1 thing they did not check while making this game is that the pig character will appear green in the ending scene regardless of your team colour. As for the multiplayer portion of the game, let me get some negatives out of the way: you cannot pick what weapons your pigs start with, there are few boxes across the map and they don't drop off again once they are taken which is extremely irritating, but, I generally use map generator since there would be vehicles and lots of boxes which should be picked up as the game progresses. Second issue: only 3 pigs with 4 teams. Okay, done, now, the multiplayer side is also extremely fun, seriously, playing multiplayer with CPU players is extremely funny, as they do stupid things a lot, and they do in general is funny, I don't really try hard, and the music theme for the teams while watching CPU play is excellent, the pig speech and dialogue is so entertaining especially while the team the pig is on is losing, the comment the pig makes after a turn is extremely funny! I wish I could discuss all the funny moments I've been through here, you would have to play the game overtime to start understanding what I mean. Hogs of War is a very unique game, so much fun and simply the best turn based tactic game ever. The voice overs are fantastic as well as the way the nations are represented (good job, Rik Mayall), the gameplay is absolutely entertaining and the CPU makes me laugh throughout the game. Expand

A great game that I play through it again every few years or so. I'm a little baffled by the negative reviews, OK it looks dated and maybe the Rik Mayall voice-over isn't for everyone but the core game play is great. The single player campaign is a lot of fun and is a decent length, and the multi-player is great too. Expand

This game is a childhood game for me. A 3D-Styled Worms game with it's own twist of Hog, where inventory is not shared between the whole team, but each Hog has their own arsenal. Fantastic script and voice acting, but does get repetitive after a while. The game can randomly freeze on loading screens which is a bit upsetting.

Graphics for the time of it's release were very solid and the OST is fantastic.

On a first play-through, expect this game will give at least 5 hours for the single player campaign mode and endless hours of fun with friends in the multitude of Multi-player maps.
