  1. Although it's marred by a host of glitches, Prince of Persia: Rival Swords is still a mostly stellar port of the console original...Add in a ton of extras and new content, and Rival Swords is worth playing even if you've finished "The Two Thrones."
  2. A great example of modern platforming, coupled with a terrible example of a fighting game. Still, much more to love than hate.
  3. The graphics look very good on the PSP, particularly with the enormous level layouts and smooth animations of the Prince and his dark side. However, the game has bugs, the most notable being flickering and poor looking textures. The audio has its problems as well.
  4. Rival Swords, then, is a great translation of "Two Thrones," and no doubt through some time-altering voodoo, Ubisoft has padded out the PSP package with some worthwhile additions, making this the most content-laden version of them all.
  5. I was anticipating control issues due to the lack of a second analog stick but they weren’t as bad as I had imagined. In all, this is a fairly solid handheld port of the console version.

For those who want a title like this on the PSP, there's a game to love hidden down deep in here. You just have to dig through a bunch of technical obstacles to get to it.

Prince of Persia Rival Swords has gameplay that has been well translated for the PSP but is awfully dragged down by technical problems.

Offers a great slice of stylish platforming and combat for those new to the title, while adding some fresh content to keep "Two Thrones" fans happy enough to get it again from some portable Prince action. [Jan 2007, p.66]

At times sublime, but sadly it's the frantic and frustrating Dark Prince sections that linger longest in the memory. [Jan 2007, p.78]

A top platformer and classy send off for the prince, even if he is hamstrung by the PSP. [Jan 2007, p.77]

If it weren't for the host of visual and audio glitches that scream "rush job," this would rank as one of the best PS2-to-PSP ports ever. [July 2007, p.83]

The Two Thrones on PSP. It is quite good, but not the best version of the game. So what is the point? [Sept 2007]

The controls are excellent and instinctive and the graphics are really rather stunning, although they're just too dark to enjoy fully. [Jan 2007, p.85]
  14. Regrettably, Rival Swords offers nothing to players that have already experienced Two Thrones. Aside the fact that this is a handheld version, there really is no reason to even pick this up unless you like your Prince to go.
  15. The addition of a few extra areas does not make up for the massive amount of flaws, both gameplay and graphical, that turns a fun game into a chore.
  16. 70
The key syllable is port. Prince of Persia: Rival Swords sits alongside games like "Star Wars Battlefront 2" and "Tony Hawk's Project 8" as ambitious versions of great console games that still come up short.
