Shattered Memories gives you something to think about, even if you don't feel like you have direct control over how events transpire -- a result of the game's non-binary, open-ended decisions, both in how you play the game and in the "psychological profiles" you undergo.
  2. This is not an instant classic like the first or second entries in the Silent Hill franchise, but it's clearly one of the best games in this genre for a portable console.
  3. An excellent Silent Hill adaption for the format.
  4. In a game like Silent Hill: Shattered Memories the immersion is crucial to giving the player the full experience and unfortunately, that experience doesn't come along with the game's other high points to the PSP.
  5. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is frankly, one of the better PSP games I've played. It's certainly not the best on the system, but it's certainly pretty and the sound design is through the roof with proper headphones.
  6. An atmospheric masterpiece with many endings and a big amount of goose bumps all over your neck! But be warned, the game lasts for eight hours at maximum – and you‘re going to hate the creepers really soon.

These issues noted, Shattered Memories remains a competent PSP action thriller, particularly for those with no other choices.
  8. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is a decent PSP-title, with some scary moments. The only problem with the game is the length of the adventure, which is very short.
  9. New chapter to the horror series returns to its roots and brings a slight change in visual style. Next time we ask for less ice and more rot and fear please. [Feb 2010]

    Boring. [Issue#190, p.80]

Silent Hill Shattered Memories will probably feel like a shallow version of the series to veteran players. But as a standalone title it represents a niche that is intelligent, thoughtful and meaningful.
  12. A little more focus on creating bigger scares instead could have easily let it flourish. [Apr 2010, p.109]
  13. Meaty horror turns vegan in a smart, visually-impressive but scare-free PSP rebirth. [Mar 2010, p.78]
  14. If you’re interested in a solid, nerve-shredding jaunt through familiar territory with a few curve-balls thrown in to make the experience somewhat novel, however, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories delivers all the chills and uneasiness the series is renown for.

I wonder how they managed to port it to psp, because it looks sooooooo good. These casting shadows are magnificent. I like the fact that you don't have to use guns just running away from freaks. I had first played it truthfully, second was half and half and the third time I went opposite all times played was intense. Best advice to some who have not played go completely true in the beginning. you will not be sorry, and this is a game you want to finish and play again Full Review »

The game doesn't have combat, when monsters appear you have to run, and it makes the game much more frightening, though the fact they're always foreshadowed by ice is disappointing as it eliminates tension and makes the game not very scary. Also the game basically punishes you for exploring when it comes to it's multiple endings. But aside from these caveats the game is great, there's a big world to explore that's not entirely linear a great changeable story (the game watches what you do and changes the game based on it) and fun simple puzzles. It's short but has a lot of replayability. Definitely worth playing Full Review »
