A great game, and more importantly it knows what kind of game it wants to be; it's not trying to be every game for every player - it's a mission-based, moderately-paced, thinly-plotted and multiplayer-focused shooter. And it hits that goal so well that it makes the shooter landscape for the PSP clear.
  3. Not only a major improvement over the first portable SOCOM game but it is also the best game the series has produced thus far. With a wealth of juicy multiplayer options, a solid single-player mode and some surprising extras, this is a PSP game you will not want to miss if you love military action games or your PSP.
  4. SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 2 may not be the easiest name to remember, but as a game it's impossible to forget.
  5. In terms of pacing, community, and great gunplay, this is the closest you'll get to a handheld "Counter-Strike." And as far as handheld shooters go, this is as good as it gets.
  6. The real question is whether the game can rise above the hardware constraints, and the answer is yes. As a result, Fireteam Bravo 2 may be the premier shooter in the PSP’s library.
  7. SOCOM hasn’t changed much since we saw it last year, but who cares when Fireteam Bravo 2 is so much fun? With its satisfying single-player experience and addictive online modes this is one game that is extremely easy to recommend, no matter what type of gamer you are.

    Taken as a whole -- online included -- Fireteam Bravo 2 is a notable, laudable step above its predecessor. But for those of you with no interest in playing in infrastructure mode, don't expect too much more of a good thing. It's a step up, to be sure - just not a very big one.

    The sometimes simplistic graphics could still use another boost, and enemy taunts and anguished cries can grate on the ears in their repetition, but Fireteam Bravo 2 is too much fun for such irritations to scrub the mission. SOCOM may be stumbling on its console home, but it's standing tall at its portable post.

  13. Like a real-time strategy on a console or a platformer on the PC, Fireteam Bravo 2 bears the burden of being a great game in the wrong medium. Still, as far as first person shooters go, it’s one of the best we’ve seen on the PSP so far and offers an excellent single player campaign with solid multiplayer action to boot.

  17. Fireteam Bravo showed that the PSP was able of delivering a full-fledged online experience. Fireteam Bravo 2 doesn’t have the same novelty but it does deliver a really strong multiplayer component and a great singleplayer game.
  18. Visually it does the job, albeit with a few minor quips here and there - but it does have a good frame rate to be thankful for, and that's imperative.

    Not only did it need to live up to the standards put forth in the first game, but also the standards of the U.S. Navy. Thankfully, it's safe to say that the frogmen of Fireteam Bravo have excelled in this, creating a new must-have for Sony's handheld.
  23. But the real shocker is how stacked the single player experience is. Players can acquire assistance from not only their own sources, but from the locals as well, depending on their in-game performance.
  24. FTB’s saving grace is its multiplayer, the only real reason to play this game. A lot of the single player problems evaporate when you go online and sample any of the eight multiplayer modes FTB 2 has to offer.
  25. Fire Team Bravo 2 is a perfectly serviceable third person shooter with some tactical qualities, but it’s not the gem of a tactical shooter players have come to love since it’s inception on the PS2.

    Wow, where to begin? This is easily one of the best titles on the PSP. It's a little rough around some edges, but the multiplayer is near perfect, and this game was definitely built for multiplayer. Unfortunately, as is the case for all games that put their effort into multiplayer, once people stop playing, the game effectively dies, and with the server shutdown, this game will definitely have fewer people playing. For this reason, despite the high score, I can't recommend this game to anyone but the most hardcore of fans. All the same, just about everything is a step up from FTB1, with only a few nit picky things a possible step backward. More weapons and equipment, more customization, more maps and the best maps of FTB1 carried along and improved to this title, on top of this FTB2 looks more like a PS2 game than its prequil who resembled more the PS1 generation. Singleplayer is not very fun. Among other obvious problems like boring story/missions and bad AI is the most unforgivable of offenses; you die once and you have to start the entire mission again! For this reason, even though the higher difficulties were more challenging and fun to test my skills, I found myself running through everything on easy because I was tired of wasting time replaying missions unnecessarily. Overall, this is one of the best multiplayer shooters on the PSP, so if you have a group of friends willing to come together and squeeze the last bit of fun out of Socom after the server shutdown, you can't go wrong with FTB2.
