  1. Games Master UK
Feels like a lean street fighter compared to the flabby console game. [Dec 2006, p.100]
  2. A rather tough sell. The Mob Wars portion of the game is well implemented, if a bit shallow, but it isn’t enough to make this an easily recommendable purchase. The story mode carries its own set of problems, as well.
  3. Looks aside, The Godfather: Mob Wars is simply an enjoyable extension of the console version that appropriately adds new content to the mix. While it isn't a ground-breaking experience, it is fun while it lasts.
  4. In spite of its issues The Godfather: Mob Wars can be an enjoyable game although it would certainly benefit from better integration between the story and mob war modes.
  5. PSM Magazine
As is often the case with PSP games, the game has some control issues and suffers from low framerates and blurring. [Nov. 2006, p.80]
  6. Personally, I would have liked to see either stronger turn based elements or a better balance between that and the action elements.
  7. The game is pretty good graphically, but the music and great voice acting is where it really shines most.
  8. The story side captures the feel of the console game, with the same story, characters, voices, and whatnot, but with that lack of freedom comes a stripped down take that doesn't take very long to complete, especially if you're experienced with the game already.
  9. The Godfather never feels like it has any real consequence to it, and interspersed with missions as it is, it commits the sin of slowing an action game down.
  10. The mixture of the strategy genre and the third person action gameplay makes for a simple yet enjoyable experience. It’s sad, though, because the Godfather franchise almost works against a serviceable game for the barren PSP landscape.
  11. While the console versions offer an open world, the PSP version just takes you through the missions as well as the Mob War segment of the game with nothing much to do when you’re done with them. Sorry but this is an offer you should definitely refuse.
  12. The things that Godfather: Mob Wars does, it does well. There just should have been more similarity to the console version.
  13. Despite The Godfather: Mob Wars' impressive visuals, voice acting and decent attempt to offer a dynamically different experience from other console versions, awkwardly mapped controls, an uninspired mini-game, recurring bugs and an overall lack of depth keep it from being a truly unique handheld experience.
  14. What players have left is basically shooting mission after shooting mission, which they could get with better controls in a number of games elsewhere.
  15. 62
The action segments are really simplistic in nature and don’t allow for the exploring and flexibility of the console game, while the Mob Wars strategy mode doesn’t really contain all that much strategy.
  16. The absolutely awful camera control that all but ruins the game. But despite these very apparent flaws in the action portion of the game, the turn-based strategy portion is somewhat enjoyable while it lasts.
  17. 60
The action portions of the game can be fairly called a stripped-down version of the console game, and the strategic Mob Wars mode feels poorly balanced and hinges more on its problematic action sequences than on real strategy.
  18. 60
The best thing you can say about The Godfather is at least the developers didn't just slap the console version into a handheld and call it day.
  19. Stripped down from a car-crime game into a bizarre action-strategy hybrid, The Godfather: Mob Wars actually works pretty well, provided you're not expecting much exploration or any driving. If you've already played through any of the console versions, though, the repeated missions and cutscenes are guaranteed to get tedious.
  20. Official U.S. Playstation Magazine
I couldn't get over the tiresome switch from the adrenaline-pumping action of shooting rival families to suddenly having to play a game of Risk. [Nov. 2006, p.122]
  21. Official Playstation 2 Magazine UK
Much more frustrating than the PS2 version, and not quite as varied to play, but more cinematic than we'd have thought possible on the PSP. [Dec 2006, p.81]
  22. Godfather: Mob Wars is the game Francis Ford Coppala should have been complaining about.
  23. I can say with complete and total confidence that Godfather: Mob Wars is not going to keep you interested for long with its lackluster combat and controls.
  24. PSM3 Magazine UK
It's The Godfather, but smaller, more linear and bogged down by a wafer-thin strategy element. Forget it. [Nov 2006, p.80]
  25. Play UK
    Horrible linearity. [Issue#146, p.90]
  26. In trying to make a game based on the movie, they've ended up making a movie based on the movie. It's not as good as the real thing.
  27. 50
The Godfather on the PSP is too scaled down to be an enjoyable game, and simply has too many flaws which stops the game from being a worthwhile recommendation.
  28. 50
A series of random mini-missions pushing you further away from feeling like you're a Corleone.
  29. The only downside is it would have been perfect Wi-Fi fare, only there are no online features at all. The lack of vehicles is also a shame, but at least the PS2 version's decent fighting system remains.
  30. It seems odd that Electronic Arts decided to take out most of the fun elements of the game and replace them with additions that are barely worth talking about.
  31. Game Informer
This sad excuse for a port doesn't even deserve a body bag. Just toss it in the river. [Nov. 2006, p.146]
  32. 40
What the game has for you in presentation, it can't make up for in lackluster gameplay and big problems.
  33. Without the free roaming play, the game is a limited and once you have accomplished all of your goals, there’s nothing to keep you amused. Why settle for the edited-for-television version when you can have the director's cut? Stick with the console version, capeesh?
  34. The Godfather is not a total failure, but when the main impetus to play through its missions is to watch the bonus film material, you have to ask what the point is.
