  1. With the deep and strategic gameplay, a great tutorial and a variety of modes including a two-player ad hoc wireless mode, there's no reason not to purchase UBP.
  2. The new rotation mechanic takes some getting used to, but Koloomn proves complex, satisfying and horribly addictive. Good stuff. [Apr 2006, p.113]
  3. The tutorials do their best to bring you up to speed on all the gameplay concepts, but you'll need to invest a fair amount of time to get the hang of it all. Played competitively there are few games as intense as this, making the lack of unique game modes more than bearable.

If you're good at it but never get great, it might not impress you all that much. Once you start putting together huge Chains, however, and earning those bunker-buster Magic Blocks, the game gets nuts.
  5. Ultimate Block Party is easy to pick up and play, and once you do, the quick, chaotic puzzle battles will have you hooked.
  6. Addictive enough to grasp hours (or weeks) of your time. [Apr 2006, p.85]
  7. It's nothing fancy, but for puzzle freaks, this is a nice edition to the PSP library. [Jun 2006, p.118]
  8. Six months on, we're still playing "Lumines." This is only a mildly amusing diversion. [May 2006, p.74]
  9. If you’re looking for an extremely cutthroat head-to-head mode then you should certainly take a look.
  10. It's plenty challenging, but it lacks that "Tetris" feeling where you have to force yourself to turn it off. [Aug 2006, p.84]
  11. If you can be bothered to go looking for it, Koloomn might be a good investment. Otherwise, particularly for those of us already mesmerised by Lumines or quite happy with our range of DS puzzlers, perhaps, it's almost too simple, and I can think of at least a handful of block puzzle games I'd rather play instead.

Some good ideas on offer here, but with an incomplete multiplayer offering the games potential is severely hindered. Recommended only for die-hard puzzle enthusiasts.

This game is fun as hell. If you like Lumines, etc., this is a friendly alternative for shorter bursts. (Darn that Lumines for lasting like 2 hours...) Full Review »
