A delight. There’s nothing else like its gentle combination of exploration, strategy and discovery, and it made me feel both empathy and responsibility for virtual creatures that most games would treat as disposable fodder.
  2. Jul 31, 2013
There's nothing quite like Pikmin out there, and its delightful combination of survival strategy and unflinching cuteness should entertain you throughout this lengthy adventure.

A major improvement over its predecessors--of which I wasn't the biggest fan. If it could win over a skeptic like me, I imagine that people who loved the first two games will be thrilled by the way this game keeps the series' heart intact but improves on the level design and gameplay.

Pikmin 3’s control issues are buoyed by solid improvements to the series and easily accessible alternative inputs. It’s adorable, and if you’re a Wii U owner, consider this an essential game.
  5. Jul 22, 2013
What's most striking, though, is that Pikmin still feels like strategy seen with fresh eyes - strategy, perhaps, by designers who were unconcerned with labelling, and just let their ideas lead them where they wanted to go.

Pikmin 3 is a solid sequel. It improves on the mechanics of the previous games and includes a good amount of enjoyable content.

While Miyamoto and company certainly made us wait quite a bit, I think you’ll agree it was worth it for Pikmin 3. It’s easily one of the best titles on the Wii U, and something that every Nintendo fan should certainly plan to pick up.

With Wii U gamers hungry for software, Pikmin 3 offers an interstellar feast.
  9. Jul 22, 2013
Pikmin 3 is a great refinement of the original formula and is still a joy to play. But after nine years we expected some more content, and the final stage is really disappointing.

A brilliant HD adventure that stops short of delivering a truly definitive Wii U experience. [Oct 2013, p.66]

Pikmin 3 is a game about nature, just as it always has been. But on Wii U it’s so believable it often feels like you’re sitting in a real garden, playing with ants and beetles in dappled sunlight. Despite the macabre undertones of the cruelty of nature, the game is charming, funny, and utterly captivating. It is without doubt yet another Miyamoto masterpiece, and one that the Wii U desperately needs.

We miss some kind of multiplayer, co-op mode, but apart from that there are no big issues we can complain about. It keeps evolving, and it's as good, addictive and fun as we remember it.

Pikmin 3 is a fantastic game that oozes with charm. The levels are short enough that they scream “just one more day”. It also helps that game play is so tight, and the design feels so good. While it may not be my most anticipated franchise from the Nintendo stables, I cannot help but fall in love with the quirky Koppites and their quest for food. Pikmin 3 is one of the best reasons to own a Wii U so far.

Familiarity is both the worst and best thing about Pikmin 3. Twelve years after the original and nine after the sequel, little has changed – but little really needed to. It may not sell systems on its own, but it’s a fine addition to a sparse software library that brings one of Nintendo’s most vibrantly characterful series into the HD era and, critically, makes convincing use of the GamePad.
  15. Jul 23, 2013
These additional modes are a lot of fun, providing as they do bite-size portions of Pikmin action that you can enjoy with a friend, and definitely give you a reason to keep coming back to the game. But honestly, the campaign has so many nooks and crannies to explore and hidden fruit and data files to find that once you’ve reached the end of the story you’ll want to jump back in straight away.

A great new entry in one of the most unique franchises ever created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo. A must-have Wii U game.
  17. Jul 22, 2013
Perhaps only a tighter control scheme could improve Pikmin 3 (although you can switch to Wiimote for more precision) as the infrequent boss battles can prove trickier than they need to, especially when your army is under duress. Nevertheless, this is a sumptuous, intelligent, witty and oddly cruel piece of work from a company that has no equal.
  18. Jul 23, 2013
Nintendo shows the meaning of the so called "Nintendo Difference" in this colourful, lovely and charming experience. Pikmin 3 won't probably be enough to save Wii U, but it's surely a huge leap in the right direction.
  19. Jul 31, 2013
Pikmin 3 doesn’t mess with what worked in the previous two games, it just polishes and refines the formula into something that stands alongside other modern titles.
  20. Jul 31, 2013
The Pikmin series does things that no other games do, and Pikmin 3 does those things better than ever before.
  21. Jul 31, 2013
It’s a bit disappointing that Pikmin 3 is so similar to its predecessors — especially since it’s been almost a decade since the last time we’ve had a chance to explore this world with our tiny plant friends. The limited innovation, the dissonance between control inputs, and the lack of any online functionality hold Pikmin 3 back from true greatness. Instead, Pikmin 3 will have to settle for being good — and good is just fine.
  22. Jul 30, 2013
Pikmin 3 is the game that all Wii U owners have been waiting for.
  23. Oct 7, 2013
Pikmin 3 combines RTS elements, direct action and light puzzles. The result is a quite endearing scifi-adventure despite some control issues and bland splitscreen multiplayer. There's also no real need to develop special tactics for bosses. [Aug 2013]

Pikmin 3 would be something of a rare gem in any console’s library, never mind the fledgling Wii U’s.
  25. Jul 22, 2013
The first high-definition Pikmin may not be the Wii U savior Nintendo had hoped for, but is nevertheless a funny and entertaining piece of software.

Call them your slaves, minions, little kids or whatever. Pikmin are there to help you. Together you will explore a beautiful game. The best Wii U title to get, its got a huge x-factor.
  27. Jul 22, 2013
Beautifully crafted and filled to the brim with exciting gameplay features, Pikmin 3 is a worthy new instalment in Nintendo's quirky strategy series. The core gameplay mechanics remain true to the GameCube originals, but are further enhanced by the unique features of the Wii U GamePad.
  28. Jul 25, 2013
Pikmin 3 feels like the next step in the franchise: a perfectly balanced game that’ll easily keep you occupied for fifteen hours with a very satisfying learning curve. Everything is also nicely polished with graphics that’ll suddenly have you produce copious amounts of saliva. Still, a cooperative mode would’ve been nice. Pikmin also don’t follow you as well as they should all the time. These are tiny stains on one of the best Wii U games to date.
  29. Jul 22, 2013
It feels more like a restatement of the original game than a full-blown sequel, but while its effect on the Wii U’s fortunes may be limited the fact remains there’s nothing quite like Pikmin.
  30. Jul 31, 2013
Beautiful environments, persuasively appetizing fruits, and a quirky personality are matched by thoughtful and challenging game design. Nearly a decade since the previous game, there's still nothing quite like Pikmin, and it's fantastic to see new growth finally take root.

All of a sudden, you begin to notice all the layers to the game which provide an in-depth experience that is very unique and satisfying. One needs to experience Pikmin3 first hand to really understand. I've been unsatisfied with many new game purchases over the last 5 years, not with this one. Well worth the purchase! Oh, and it has great graphics. Thanks Nintendo. Full Review »

Ok so the controls in this game aren't a problem but it is starting to look like even Nintendo themselves are struggling to think of any funOk so the controls in this game aren't a problem but it is starting to look like even Nintendo themselves are struggling to think of any fun or practical uses for the Wii U gamepad. With this being a RTS I opted for old Wii remote and nun-chuck controls as they basically act like a mouse. The gamepad sat in it's cradle being used only as a map (and not a very useful one). Nintendo have created a needlessly convoluted control scheme which turns your T.V. and gamepad into a giant DS. The problem with that is it's not compact like a handheld console and actually takes quite a bit of getting used to looking at one screen then another when your trying to get immersed in a game.

Like I say though the controls aren't really a problem, what is a problem is the mission structure and lack of depth to the campaign mode. Levels are small, Nintendo's solution is to impose short time limits by dividing your exploration up into days. Before you've had a chance to really do anything the day ends and your forced to watch the same cut scene and read the same dialogue at the end of every day. Very soon a feeling of repetition ensues. That feeling of repetition soon ended though with the game being just 11 hours long and having no real replay-ability.

That's just the story mode though. Thankfully Pikmin 3 also has a challenge mode that is much more engaging. Trying to beat your high score on a challenge or boss fight feels more rewarding and satisfying. Uploading your score also means you can see how well your doing compared to other players. Graphics, music and presentation are all excellent as you'd expect. Pikmin 3 is a good game, not great not essential. Even on a console with no games.
