Don't let the game's kid-friendly approach fool you; Kirby's Epic Yarn will appeal to all ages. Beyond the striking visuals is a fantastic 2D platformer, making it one of the best titles available for the Wii.

One of those games that you'll play simply because it makes you feel so good. It's also challenging and clever, with well done co-operative play and even a great soundtrack. There's no downside to this game.
  5. Kirby's Epic Yarn is absolutely filled to the brim with whimsical charm and light-hearted humour, but it's the unique gameplay elements that make it truly shine.
  6. Kirby's Epic Yarn is one of the prettiest games on Wii, and it's also one of the best. The joyous platformer might not be difficult, but it's fun, inventive, and outrageously imaginative.
  7. That Kirby's Epic Yarn left me a smiling, cooing, mushy-brained mess of happy by the end of it says an awful lot about how well-constructed and almost painfully pleasing this game is to play.

In conclusion, the word I would use to sum up Kirby's Epic Yarn is "delightful." It's only aim is to make you smile, and it does so with panache.

It goes beyond making you smile to that level of cuteness where your cheek muscles feel sore from the big smile which won't leave your face and you feel a rush of energy like you just had a shot of hard liquor. If you have any interest in platforming games at all, get Kirby's Epic Yarn.
  10. Honestly, the only crowd that I can imagine not enjoying Kirby is jaded gamers who are too cool for something so whimsical. Whatever the case, they're missing out on a colorful, unique game that reminds me of why I fell in love with gaming back on my NES: imagination, challenge, and fun.
  11. Kirby's Epic Yarn is an absolute delight. Oozing cuteness at every turn, from the wonderful animation to the gorgeous music, this is a game that should have pride of place in any game collection.
  12. One of the easiest, yet greatest, games ever. Cope with the cuteness and you're in for a treat. [Feb 2011, p.79]

Overall, I cannot stress enough that if you own a Wii, you need to own this game. It is one of the most fun, unique and charming platforming games.

Kirby's Epic Yarn is an absolutely fantastic game that offers so much enjoyment thanks to the large number of unlockables, stunning graphics and incredible stages. Fans of Kirby and those who enjoy a good side-scrolling platformer should not hesitate to give this a try.

At its heart, this is a rock-solid, gorgeously drawn platformer with enough new tricks up its sleeve to recommend to anyone needing an excuse to play their Wii.
  16. 91
Even with the deviations from what you might expect from the plucky pink puff, Epic Yarn most assuredly feels like a Kirby game; you have solid platforming, off-the-charts cuteness, and even throwbacks to familiar Dream Land characters and settings.

More than just a visual masterpiece, Kirby Epic Yarn is a solid and cute platform game that is perfect be experienced in co-op with a casual player. With some great hardcore similar games like Super Mario Bros. Wii and Donkey Kong Country Returns on the Wii, this alternative choice is all but superfluous.

Overall I can only recommend Kirby's Epic Yarn. The gameplay is challenging, funny and gripping, the graphical and sound effects are great and the co-op mode is very entertaining. It's one of the best Nintendo Wii games I've ever played.

Kirby's Epic Yarn has a wonderful, charming tale to tell with a friend, a boyfriend or girlfriend, or a son or daughter. Whether it's your first game or your hundredth, there'll be something in its world of patterned yarn to plant a big silly smile on your face.

The perfect game for all audiences: easy enough for people that never play videogames, but with enough rewards and incentives for those who have lots of experience. This is the cutest game we've seen in years... and an excellent one, too.

Kirby's Epic Yarn starts off slow and may even lead to fans of traditional Kirby adventures giving it the cold shoulder. However, the sheer amount of thought, creativity and extra little touches poured into the adventure help to make this one journey that grows on the player considerably the further into proceedings they get.

Kirby strikes again with his best adventure so far, probably also one of the best stories that we've discovered on Wii's catalog. This is a trully epic adventure in which Kirby discovers a new way of developing his abilites, meeting new friends and so on. It's fun and entertaining, and without any doubt the best game for this console on the beginning of 2011. Yet another must-have for Nintendo's Wii.

Kirby's Epic Yarn is one of the most enjoyable platformers out there. While some may balk at its ease, it does offer more of a challenge for those who come into it with an open mind.

Kirby's Epic Yarn is one game that should be on any gamers wish list, as long as you own a Wii. With great visuals, solid sound, and gameplay that is geared for any level of gamer in the family (thank you), Nintendo has once again proven that they publish great games, it is as simple as that.
  30. Make no mistake - this is straightforward, walk-right-to-win platforming. It's not re-writing the book on anything and it's probably not game of the year material, but it's just plain fun, and acts as a charming antidote to the M-rated avalanche we can't seem to pull ourselves out of.
  31. 90
Kirby's Epic Yarn is a fantastic game that might skew a little younger than experienced gamers might be comfortable with, but the subtle level challenges and the incredibly creative art direction is well worth the experience.
  32. Kirby's Epic Yarn is a slightly deviatory franchise installment featuring a brilliant new fabric-oriented concept which takes this platforming game beyond the realm of the ordinary.
  33. 90
Kirby's Epic Yarn is, at its quilted heart, an enjoyable 2D platformer that anyone who understands the language of fun can pick up and play, and it has an aesthetic that you can marvel at -- stress-free -- from beginning to end.

I spent around 10 lovely hours exploring the intricately detailed, painfully cute Patch Land in co-op, and came away feeling, well, lovely. Kirby's Epic Yarn makes a convincing case for the idea that we don't have to be challenged every single time we play a video game. Occasionally, it's enough to be happy.

This is one of the most attractive and original visual designs of the last years, and also a great game, although many will find it too easy.

Kirby's Epic Yarn is a wonderful surprise. Brilliantly crafted to take the player on a fantastic voyage into a world of patchwork, you will easily fall in love with Kirby's attitude and yarn-inspired aesthetics.
  37. Kirby's Epic Yarn is definitely up there with Super Mario Galaxy 2 as a must-have Nintendo game this year. However, what separates Kirby from everyone's red-capped plumber is that there were some serious risks taken with Kirby, and the result is something totally awesome.

A lack of challenge has led to the demise of many platformers in the past. Oddly, that's not the case with Kirby's Epic Yarn. It is easy to play and requires no real skill to master, but it's a load of fun regardless.

Polished, offers great platforming, and looks amazing. [Dec 2010, p.84]
  43. Enticing visuals and varied gameplay make Kirby's latest adventure an absolute joy.
  44. It's rare for a visual direction to have such a profound impact on gameplay, but the two are seamlessly interwoven in Kirby's Epic Yarn. It's certainly not one of the more challenging platformers out there, but it's a breathtaking experience nonetheless.

Drawbacks aside, adults should consult their doctors about a prescription of Epic Yarn instead of Prozac.
  46. Kirby's Epic Yarn delivers fun, solid platforming with incredible style. The presentation and lack of difficulty may be a turn-off, but any platforming fan would do well to get wrapped up in this ball of yarn.

Kirby's Epic Yarn makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. You'll literally be amazed all the time and the game treats you with all sorts of funny jokes consisting out of fabric and yarn. Kirby's Epic Yarn is a well made platforming adventure that delivers exactly what we expected from all the trailers and previews. It's a fun experience for one or two players and is especially suitable for children. The Wii may lack a large amount of quality games, but as long as Nintendo keep providing solid platforming experiences like this one we'll keep the complaints to a minimum.

It's surely a testament of how Nintendo can take a simple concept and turn it into a robust experience. It may lack the challenge other Nintendo games have, but offers some truly relaxing moments in a wonderfully designed world...if you can handle the cuteness.

Almost disgustingly cute about a yarn-made Kirby in a colourful world full of cuteness. Under the surface there's a really great platforming game with lots of good ideas and a nice co-op mode.

Sure, Kirby is extremely easy, and not really innovative, but it still is a quite refreshing experience. With high production values and an enchanting atmosphere, its a delicious journey through Dreamland's kingdom. If the youngest of gamers can dive in with closed eyes, platformers aficionados will have trouble looking the other way with its lack of challenge. If you are able to enjoy its naive world, you will discover a peace-inducing title, with a solid gameplay. Touching, warm, and reassuring like a sweater weaved by Grandma.

Nintendo has all too often repeated its wish to put smiles on as many faces as possible, and Kirby's Epic Yarn is arguably the most successful exponent of that mantra. [Issue#104, p.114]

Not since Yoshi's Island's designers broke out the crayons has a Nintendo platformer looked so much like a work of craft, but it's a pity that, for the most part, the levels don't feel as fresh as they look - a platform made of butterfly stitching is still just a platform. Epic Yarn is an entertaining if undemanding jaunt, but it lacks the scope of Epic Mickey and the hardcore thrills of Donkey Kong Country Returns - both of which are out this month and far more worthy of your time and cash.

Kirby's latest adventure is an unabashedly adorable and addictive affair, even when suffering from a limited reward system and lacking difficulty.

Truth be told, Kirby's Epic Yarn was the highlight of my Giftmas morning. It's not a marvel of motion control engineering, but it was fun, colourful and great to relax with on a Saturday morning.

While you wouldn't call it epic, Kirby's Epic Yarn is a welcome addition in the current, and possibly continuing, dearth of quality Wii titles.
  67. 70
A cute and charming platformer that is much more forgiving than its Nintendo-comrade New Super Mario Bros. The unique setting provides plenty of surprises and new takes on classic platforming elements, especially in the first couple of hours, and the game is certainly fun. However, there's not a lot of challenge here, and not a lot of discovery or secrets to keep the longevity after you reach the finish line.

Teenage boys will absolutely hate it. But when viewed as a platform game for kids, it's pretty impressive. Kirby first emerged in 1992; only now has his existence been justified.

Perfectly sized for young children and the parties with all the family, Kirby's Epic Yarn is undeniably one of the titles that everyone can conclude without real effort, especially with two players, but still keeps some surprises in store for those who want to unlock everything.

Kirby's Epic Yarn is a breath of fresh air in a time filled with generic FPS's that in some cases are unplayable(MW2), It's like smelling horse manure in an enclosed and small area that you are locked into but you find a crowbar to break the lock keeping you in. Kirby's Epic Yarn is the crowbar of justice against horse **** filled barns. It's also a very good and deep game for EVERYONE and it is not easy if you want to get a good bead streak, Anyone who says they are too mature for this are insecure idiots who cant grow up and see that this game is damn adorable and for all ages. I haven't had so much fun and excitement in a VERY long time for a videogame. Kirby Epic Yarn in your first five minutes may look like a simple platformer for the kids, but the minute Kirby suddenly transforms into a tank in the first or second stage, the experience changes forever. It features some really awesome platforming that gives me memories to Kirby 64 but also gives an even more unique and varied touch with it's graphical point of view and different transformations that all of them are effective and exciting. Kirby is definitely back in awesomeness on consoles, with this brand new game, and like the title suggests, it's epic! Full Review »
