There are no nasty surprises, no ill-considered gameplay changes and no sense that Sonic Team is ever confused about what the game is supposed to be. It’s a game that is totally comfortable with itself. And it has every right to be. [Apr 2009, p.106]
Undoubtedly, this will be one of the most talked about games of the Sonic franchise. Its story and presentation are good. However, the many errors in control completely diminish the experience and could make many to lose their patience.
NOTE : This review has been made, by a person who has never beaten black knights before. Also, spoiler free!
Sonic and the black knights, aka the last sonic game of the dark age might be one of the best sonic games utilizing hardware capabilities to the max. What Is even sonic and the black knights? It's an autorunner (kinda) like secret rings, it's predecessor. This game uses motion controls to swing your blade in the tales of the round table! Sonic and the black knights, like secret rings Is one of the best sonic games that I have personally played. To whoever Is reading this, give black knights a chance!
On the one hand it looks and sounds fantastic, features plenty of nods to previous Sonic games, and is even fun on occasion. On the other hand, however, it's hindered by flaky controls, level design that is excruciatingly irritating at worst and insipid at best, and a sword mechanic that simply doesn't meld well with the rest of the action.
Even though it might sound odd that the central premise of the plot is a big sword it actually works in this game. The main issues we have with Sonic and the Black Knight is the controls and overall gameplay. It's just not that fun to flail about with your arms in the long run. This is sadly yet another mediocre Sonic game without redeeming features.
As a package Black Knight is competent: the frame rate is consistent while the visuals, taking their cue from Secret Rings, suggest that Sonic Team’s capability with squeezing results from the modest hardware is more successful than their understanding of how Sonic should feel as a game.
very good
a new vision of sonic the hedgehog
this game is fast and hard and it can help you get your eyes used to fast fights
this game really help me at beating vergil in Devil may cry 3 on very hard mode and beat vergil in DMC no damage
I think overall, Sonic and the Black Knight is a pretty good and enjoyable Sonic Game, and the story is alright.
I believe Sonic and the Black Knight has the best portrayal of Sonic the Hedgehog to date, and Jason Griffith nailed it... it's a shame this was his last game before he was let go.
The sword gameplay backed by your typical "Run to the Finish" is alright, but it can slow you down at certain times until you get later down the line, especially if you use Soul Surge. It's better reserved for Bigger Enemies or Bosses.
The side quests are ok but sometimes they can serve as annoyance every once and a while, especially some of the absurdity of the challenge missions.
Getting to play as the Knights of the Round Table for the 2nd half is a nice touch, but the way they play can be notorious, Blaze / Percival being the WORST of the bunch sadly.
The items that are collected aren't really any useful until you get to the 2nd half of the game where you can change the Knights of the Round Table's weapons outside of the Sacred Swords.
The Multiplayer is alright, but it doesn't quite mesh all that well.
If you want to play Sonic the Hedgehog and play the inspiring Hero? This is a good game for that, and you'll get some enjoyment out of it.
This is an example **** that does everything right except for gameplay. Cutscenes, music, visuals and story are mostly better than anything the series has seen before it. Unfortunately, the gameplay has a functionality issue. Sonic may control more comfortably than he did in Secret Rings but the combat completely undermines that improvement. It's exhausting, relentless and a even annoying. The quick time events are the worst part of it. You're not only supposed to swing the Wii remote when the game displays the icon but you also need to pay attention to how fast the icon is shaking. The faster it shakes, the sooner you need to swing. Eventually you start having to swing a split second before it even appears. These QTEs ruin most of the bosses this game offers.
Sonic and the black knight may have an actually alright story. Alright grafix and very good characters. Great music and next to unleashed the best sonic characterisation. But it has attrocies gameplay with very delayed motion controles. Shadow and Knuckles boss fights where patheticly easy blaze was a bit difficult and then therevis arthur boss fight wich is terableonly because if delayed conttols. The final boss is also very easy for some reason
SummarySonic and the Black Knight is a Wii-exclusive adventure. Part of the storybook series of games that began with Sonic and the Secret Rings, this title brings Sonic into the world of Arthurian legend and offers the world's most famous blue hedgehog the chance to become a knight. Using the unique Wii control system, this game takes advantag...
