The main problem here is that it feels like Legends should have been a side mode in a proper Soulcalibur rather than its own game. There are some good ideas, but it doesn't feel like a complete game.
  2. At last, Namco Bandai tells the legend behind Soul Calibur with a long and funny game which has also a bad approach due to an unlucky linear gameplay, very simple visuals and a dangerous lack of variety. Soulcalibur Legends isn't as good as its predecessors but it's still an enjoyable and interesting "beat 'em up" fighting game.
  3. This is essentially just a side quest in the series, and it feels like it cannot stand on its own. There needs to be much more polish on a game than developers put in.
  4. Electronic Gaming Monthly
Controls aside, almost every aspect of Legends feels dated. [Jan 2008, p.82]
  5. Occasional boss fights and tacked-on multiplayer/co-op modes do very little to liven things up. It's worth a rental, but it's hardly the stuff of Legends.
  6. I'm really f'ing sick of developers throwing Wii gamers crappy titles with familiar logos slapped on the front of the box. Yeah, it sells games, but it also demeans their entire franchise that they built from the ground up.
  7. Games Master UK
A disappointingly ordinary action adventure from an otherwise superb series. [Feb 2008, p.60]

Legends isn't a horror of a game. It's just a game that wouldn't have been greenlighted on the PS2 trying to cash in on the Wii's popularity and gullible gift-buyers.
  9. Soulcalibur Legends does offer some solid hack-'n-slash gaming that'll also make for a nice Wii tech demo to show your non-gaming friends and family over the holidays. But in the end, the title's appeal will likely expire before that half-drunk carton of egg nog sitting in your fridge.
  10. 50
Re-tuning Soulcalibur’s weapons combat for hack-and-slash duty is a great idea, but Legends just doesn’t have the chops to hold the attention of hardcore adventurers for long. Moreover, fighting gamers are just left out in the cold, although Soulcalibur fans may be driven to sate their curiosity.
  11. Soul Calibur Legends isn’t a particularly bad game, but it does absolutely nothing to separate itself from the piles of generic action games on the market.
  12. The controls are well done; it’s just this novelty can’t keep an otherwise horrible game afloat.
  13. It's a shame the length, boring presentation, and sub par visuals won't convince anyone but the hardcore audience to even give this sword a swipe.
  14. 60
It's Soulcalibur if it were a repetitive hack-and-slash endeavor without many of the fighters that fans adore. Die-hards may be compelled to play for the unlockables, but if you've never played Soulcalibur before, don't start now.
  15. 55
Soulcalibur: Legends offers some unique ideas and could have been a great step for the Soul Calibur franchise, but as it stands now, the game doesn't feel complete.
  16. Nintendo Power
It's too bad, though, that the game feels like it would have worked better as a side mode than as a full game (think Devil Within from Tekken 5). [Holiday 2007, p.86]
  17. Siegfried, the game's first playable character, ends battles by stating: "Damn, you're wasting my time!" Most players will feel the same way about this one.
  18. Play Magazine
There's certainly potential here, albeit squandered (in my opinion) on the Wii where like so many of its games, the hook--waving the Wiimote--is more curse than cool. [Dec 2007, p.81]
  19. Here’s a better idea, though: Find a cheap used copy of Soulcalibur II for the Gamecube and play that on the Wii. It’s the fighting game that you expect Soulcalibur to be, it’s a deeper game, and hey… it’s got Link.
  20. It's got little to offer for SoulCalibur fans, little to offer for hack-and-slash fans, and little to offer in the realm of gameplay substance.
  21. Interesting motion controls can not save this action title from its poor graphics and presentation to its even worse gameplay. A total disappointment from a development team that is capable of so much more.
  22. 70
While it doesn’t do anything criminal it also fails to do more than coast by on its laurels. The motion controls work better than any other game of this type and the visuals, while not stunning, are technically proficient and impressive.

I love this game. I recently got a secondhand Wii. It has 40 odd games and some classics like Mario Galaxy etc.. But which game do I like toI love this game. I recently got a secondhand Wii. It has 40 odd games and some classics like Mario Galaxy etc.. But which game do I like to play most? This one. Soul Calibur has easy to pick up and responsive controls- the onscreen sword responds very well to the wii remote and num chuck.

The graphics are good, I found the story quite lightweight but entertaining. It is a good workout to play- I finish after a 20 minute session with a light sweat from swinging the remote about so much.

As a 32 year old gamer I have played a lot of serious PC games and have lately come to appreciate the casual fun that a fun sword swinging game like this offers.

I would give it 8 but seeing as how this game has so many miserable ratings I am upping it to 10 to push the meta up a bit. Enjoy!

Good game let down by only a coupe of flaws, it's still good solid fun.
