  • Summary: [WiiWare] Here's a shocking series finale that's sure to shiver your timbers. With the Monkey Island world in tatters at the conclusion of the fourth Tales of Monkey Island chapter, we were left to wonder: Who can save the Caribbean?! LeChuck is revealing surprising new characteristics yet again, Guybrush has met a shocking fate and Elaine must confront the ultimate evil with everything at stake. This adventure takes you far beyond the stormy isles as you experience the Rise of the Pirate God. [Nintendo] Expand

  1. Even with a few hiccups along the way, most of them technical ones in the Wiiware version of the game, the story and characters more than make up for any of that.
  2. The chapter's final thrilling moments ratchet up to a ridiculous crescendo in one massive action-packed confrontation between the reanimated hero, his re-reanimated nemesis, and a whole bunch of other bony folks.

After wowing the crowds with the first four episodes in the Tales of Monkey Island, Telltale Games has rounded off the series with a hugely enjoyable adventure in Rise of the Pirate God. A fitting climax to a gripping five-chapter story arc.

I think this is the best episode of the entire season. The writing is great, the conflicts are interesting, the jokes are funny and the payoff lives up to the promise.
  5. A very enjoyable conclusion to the Tales of Monkey Island story, and it won't disappoint anyone who's played through the rest of it.
  6. A decent conclusion to a fantastic series. [Apr 2010, p.92]
  7. Tales goes out with a wang. [Feb 2010, p.72]
