  1. If you haven't played the PC, PS2 or Xbox 360 versions, do. They're brilliant. This isn't.
  2. It’s not a perfect port, however, but much like my breakfast this morning it’s still good enough to keep you planted on the sofa for a few hours and bask in its goodness.
  3. Now that it has moved to the Wii, however, Tomb Raider: Anniversary's magic has been lost due to crappy waggle controls. Although some of the Wii exclusive puzzles are mildly enjoyable, aiming and shaking the nunchuck leads to imprecise movements and lots of headaches.
  4. The Wii version of Tomb Raider Anniversary won’t pull in those who have already played the game on PS2 or Xbox 360. Everyone else, however, will be pleasantly surprised by the Wii remote implementation. This is one tomb that should be explored thoroughly.
  5. Tomb Raider: Anniversary is the perfect way to revisit Lara Croft. Instead of a remake, we've been given a remade version of her original adventure, bringing with it all the improvements that have been made to her character over the years, yet retaining the qualities that made us fall in love with her games in the first place.
  6. And even though the controls and camera provide ongoing problems through the entire game, you’ll eventually learn to adapt, or at least deal with them.
  7. With improved graphics, solid sound and pretty good gameplay, the new control and re-imagined levels make for a game that is much more superior from the original.

The Wii control additions really do add to the experience and the game looks pretty good, too. The end product is not exemplary, but it is a step in the right direction and it's also entertaining, particularly when you're jumping from ledge to ledge or swinging across chasms to the beat of moody music.
  9. Lara Croft's transition to the Wii is not an entirely smooth one.

The real lesson here is that if you can take out one of her twin sisters for this Anniversary date on another platform, then that's the route to go. Otherwise, while it remains a grand adventure, traveling by Wii makes it a bumpier ride.
  11. Tomb Raider: Anniversary is the video game equivalent of giving your old car a new paint job and a spoiler and claiming it's as good as new. The combination of the dated Tomb Raider areas, mixed with the uninspiring and boring Tomb Raider: Anniversary alone, feels like a patch job, and the addition of the Wii elements to the original versions of Tomb Raider: Anniversary only serves to increase the feeling that most of this game is just new elements stapled haphazardly onto a prettier version of a 10-year-old game.
  12. Tomb Raider Anniversary is still a great game. However, the Wii version is by far the worst version of that great game

In many ways, the controls are dead-on, but the awkward shooting controls hamstring the action.

It makes the most of modern technology to bring a classic game world up to date, throws in simple but intuitive controls and doesn't rely on constant fire-fights to bring excitement.

Anniversary is the best game in the series by far. [Christmas 2007, p.72]

This really is a special game for the truest fans. [Dec 2007, p.84]

If you don't have access to the other console versions, this is well worth getting. [Jan 2007, p.61]

Reworked, modernised but still definitely a retro experience, the original Tomb Raider proves there was substance behind all the hype. [Jan 2008, p.41]
  19. n-Revolution Magazine UK
    80
It massively improves the original's gameplay. [Issue#17, p.80]
  20. Those expecting a more action heavy experience will feel a little let down, but as a puzzle heavy action game, Lara can more than hold her own.
  21. The game still provides a compelling adventure, albeit a frustrating one. The camera and aiming are deplorable, but after some time it is manageable.
  22. Nintendo Power

There are also framerate and hit-detection issues (both in catching ledges and in targeting enemies) that just shouldn't exist. [Holiday 2007, p.82]

Great story line, the graphics are pretty good. The puzzles are fun and engaging and not too repetitive. The story is a decent length, but not so long that you can't make good headway in an afternoon. There are a few issues with the camera angles which get a little frustrating but overall it's just a fun and enjoyable game. It's a definite must have title for every decent Wii collection. 7/10 Full Review »

    It's great!

The graphics are amazing for the Wii. The only problem is the game isn't very good with SOME motion controls if you have a Wii
