  1. Play Magazine
A superb first shot at what a serious boxing game could be like on Wii, utterly blwing Wii Sports' interpretation of the sport out of the water. [JPN Import; Oct 2007, p.101]
  2. Nintendo Gamer
Great characters, great value, an addictive story and loads of furious fighting fun. [June 2008, p.51]
  3. On Ippo's road to glory he stumbles upon a few pebbles, but overall his path to the top is a good one!
  4. While the meat of the game lies in the extensive story mode, some fun can be had with the multiplayer.

Victorious Boxers: Revolution is just the kind of game the Wii was made for. Just don't expect it to the be the definitively boxing game for the Wii, but rather think of it as a solid game to hold you over until that game comes out.
  6. 70
True to its manga roots, there's plenty of goofy dialogue and eye-popping artwork alongside a surprisingly robust boxing engine.
  7. Overall Victorious Boxers: Revolution is a good game, worth a rental for sure, but more than that might not be the best choice.
  8. Victorious Boxers: Revolution isn't quite a revolutionary title, but it's a fun one nonetheless, save for some Story Mode missteps.
  9. Sure, the PSone-like crowds look terrible, but Wii Boxing fans finally have a meatier boxer to obsess about than Wii Sports.
  10. Victorious Boxers: Revolution does a lot of things right. The main drawback is the lack of options it gives you. There just is not much to do, and because of that what little is offered wears thin.
  11. If you’re looking for the next big title for the Wii, Victorious Boxers Revolution isn’t the game. If you’re looking for a solid title that offers some great control options, especially for the Wii, then this is your game.
  12. At its core, Victorious Boxers: Revolution is only a minor improvement over the physical gameplay of Wii Sports Boxing. It offers some advanced features and strategies as well as a full complement of boxers and venues, but it lacks the polish of a AAA title like Fight Night.
  13. Games Master UK
A not very convincing attempt to snatch the reigning champion Wii Boxing's crown. [June 2008, p.72]
  14. Victorious Boxers isn't awful, but it's hampered by a lousy control scheme. Sure, you can play it with a standard controller to make the action a little smoother, but even then it's just an average experience.
  15. 60
In the end, the wacky storyline is deflated by the difficult controls in Victorious Boxers Revolution. If Cavia could have nailed at least one of the control schemes, then this game would have had much more appeal.
  16. Official Nintendo Magazine UK
Alas, you really are better off sticking with "Wii Sports." [May 2008, p.93]
  17. A good idea that’s hampered either by poor programming, or perhaps expecting too much of the Wii’s controller. It’s hard to tell which. And really, at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter which is to blame. The sad fact is that it just isn’t much fun to play, and if you try to use the motion control setup, it becomes a real struggle.
  18. n-Revolution Magazine UK
At least we got a good workout out of it. [Issue#22, p.76]
  19. An otherwise serviceable boxing game on the Wii that doesn't work with the motion controls, which is the whole appeal of playing a boxing game on the Wii.
  20. Victorious Boxers Revolution should have been great. Hajime no Ippo is about the closest you can get to an animated version of Punchout, and the Wii is almost custom-made for boxing titles. Yet the poor Wii controls, short length and lack of extras make it hard to recommend this game for anything but the most die-hard fans of the Hajime no Ippo manga.
  21. Sorry, Victorious Boxers veterans. This game is a step back from the titles you know and love. This was the series’ chance to shine, and it’s been doomed to obscurity yet again.

Whether or not you like boxing or anime is irrelevant, as Victorious Boxers: Revolution fails to deliver motion controls that top even Wii Sports Boxing, offers very little as far as anime games go (even the simplistic Eyeshield 21 has this beat), and is a total mess of wonky control schemes, weak presentation, and broken gameplay.
  23. It's kind of sad that Victorious Boxers Revolution was botched so badly. Given that the series was a somewhat obscure anime contemporary to Fight Night, and the source material being one of the better cartoons I've seen, seeing the Wii title being so bad is a shame.
  24. AceGamez
A game with plenty of potential that's just devastatingly disappointing in every sense of the word.
  25. This game looks like it's got moves, but it can't handle itself in the ring. Stick with Wii Sports boxing - it's not great, but it's better than this, and if you have a Wii, you already own it.
  26. 35
While the multiplayer may be passable, the rest of VBR is so flawed that it tests your patience more than your boxing skills. If you've been waiting for a Wii boxing game, you should just keep waiting and go back to Wii Sports for now -- at least that was free with your Wii.

The fact of the matter is, this game is awful. The controls are completely and utterly stupid. In other words, they don't work at all. I tried to punch my friend numerous times, and I fell over. Also, you can't win if your not the largest character available. I literally walked away, ate pizza, came back and my friend had not knocked over my character just standing there. I think he actually hurt himself trying to knock my character over. So please, if you read this, don't even look, play or even have anything to do with this game. When I tried to play the game again, my Wii stabbed me in the face. Please, make the pain stop. Full Review »

Utterly useless motion controls make this almost unplayable.

This is a very solid boxing game. Love the characters, controls and overall presentation. Feels like your in the ring more than any other game.
