  1. As long as you aren't interested in motion controls, it's the best tennis game on Wii. [June 2011, p.100]

Virtua Tennis 4 might very well be the deepest and most complete tennis experience on Wii.
  3. May 6, 2011
Still, what makes Virtua Tennis 4 great is the multiplayer. [May 2011, p.88]
  4. May 26, 2011
Tennis fans who are looking for fun gameplay rather than pure realism will find this one quite satisfying.
  5. May 16, 2011
Those who are not looking for a Wiiesque experience, just a tennis game with traditional controls, will enjoy Virtua Tennis 4, which is a good tennis arcade although with not many new features.
  6. May 11, 2011
Virtua Tennis 4 is a fun tennis game, after you dig through all the fluff: Mini-games and a needlessly complex career mode.
  7. Aug 18, 2011
In the end, it's a game that would hardly beat a Grand Slam Tennis, for example, and will make you have fun or will provide moments where you wonder "why am I not playing Wii Sports tennis?"
  8. May 13, 2011
It would be great if all the buttons were accessible and you didn't have to use a D-pad. [May 2011, p.59]
  9. May 21, 2011
A disappointing effort from the series veterans and creators - it feels as if the Wii version was considered last, with faulty controls and a blatant lack of planning when it came to motion control. There are plenty of features to dig your teeth into, but the lack of care makes it difficult to tackle without many compromises. Worth trying if you're a fan of the sport or Virtua Tennis, but only worth buying if you can become accustomed to the controls.

By partially abandoning the arcade style SEGA has made a bad choice. Virtua Tennis 4 is flawed in many ways, from its unresponsive control scheme to the poor use of the motion controls. Not the best way to enjoy tennis on Wii.
  11. May 7, 2011
Virtua Tennis 4 for Wii is a disappointing game: it almost doesn't use motion controls, and without motion controls, on Wii, it is just a little better than the first Virtua Tennis, published over ten years ago.
  12. May 5, 2011
A funny title as usual, but the choice to use Wii Remote for Motion Play only is unexplainable.
  13. May 4, 2011
    Quotation forthcoming.
  14. Dec 28, 2011
Virtua Tennis 4 isn't a terrible game, but given that there is a better option on Wii, system owners looking for their tennis fix probably want to look elsewhere.
  15. May 16, 2011
Virtua Tennis 4, however, seems to take about a dozen steps backward, with few redeeming features able to keep your interest. Hopefully, they take a long hard look at their flaws and serve up a better product the next time around. Until then, where's my Wii Sports?

When the player needs to refer to the manual just to get to the main menu, there's something wrong with your game.

    "You will mostly be
holding the Wii remote sideways to play this game."

Seriously? For a tennis game that features a "Compatible with Motion Plus™" logo on the front of the case?

There is a "Motion Play" option in the main menu (which you navigate to using the controller NES-style) which lets you play "Exhibition" or "Party" mode, but for the "World Tour" or "Arcade" modes (that is, about 99% of the game) it's 4-way d-pad and 2 action buttons all the way. Welcome to 1985!

I played the first mini-game in World Tour and then quit; I put about as much effort into playing the game as Sega did porting it to the Wii. I give it a 1 because it did technically work, and caused no physical harm to me or my belongings.
