Once you’re in a groove, you can spend hours chasing the perfect playthrough, combining items and spells and tackling the dungeons. Handily, the game keeps track of how many runs you’ve attempted, which, when you reach triple digits, is a lovely metric for how addictive the game can be.
Wizard of Legend is a welcome addition to the library of procedurally generated roguelikes, offering players a challenging arena-based dungeon crawler with unforgiving combat and a vast number of abilities to choose from. Occasional performance niggles can ruin the experience, but they are few and far between.

I've been searching for a couch coop dungeon crawler for some time and I have bought anything worth mentioning and the only thing that comes close to this title is hades. Hades is a piece of art in its own right but it is confined to single player only. This game feels much like Hades but it has two player mode and a versus mode. So it's kind of like Hades and smash Brothers mixed together
Wizard of Legend is one of those rare titles where it's easy to come back to it at any time. The game, for having so few bosses and levels, never begins to feel dull or repetitive. There's tons of variety in equipment and spell loadouts, and the dungeon changes enough each time that it never really starts to feel stale. It would be nice if there was a little more variety in the stages offered, but there are enough unique combinations that each adventure is always fresh and exciting.
Wizard of Legend is simply great fun, with an awesome couch co-op mode, and loads of replay value. Its difficulty can spike at odd times, and some spells seem utterly useless. But beyond that, there's just a lot of fireball hurling mayhem to be had as you try to pass the trials.
At the end of the day, Wizard of Legend is a totally fine arcade-style dungeon crawling roguelite. It’s not near the top of the genre, or even near the top of the genre’s Switch representation, but with the fun two-player experience, it’s a respectable addition. If you’d rather sling spells then shoot guns, dance among the dead, or jump around, Wizard of Legend is a good game to pick up.
I want to love Wizard of Legend. It's a fun, fastpaced beat-em-up with lots of replay value, gorgeous pixel art, and an incredibly deep combat system. But the frame skipping I encountered made playing it an exercise in frustration. If the issue is ever sorted out, I'll give it a more enthusiastic recommendation. For now, I just wish it played more smoothly.
Nice graphics, beautiful animations, great spell design, fast paced fluid combat, amazing soundtrack and clicky gameplay make this title one of the best roguelikes currently on the Nintendo Switch. The only thing missing is some kind of online functionality and maybe some QOL changes to the hub. Overall I’d rate this game just the same as other popular roguelikes like Enter the Gungeon or The Binding of Isaac (although the lore is not nearly as interesting).
This game has protentials. The ability design is interesting and looks fancy. All skills and item design requires a lot of skill and reflex to utilize, but game is quite user unfriendly, making it hard to enjoy the difficulty. For example, the retro pixel art style and camera angle makes it very hard to tell if an attack will hit or not, thus making it hard to dodge or hit. Merchants never tell you what skill/item does what, you have to guess at the risk of wasting your money on something useless while your survival depends on it. If these two designs are intentional, the developer must be either too stupid or too arrogant to achknowledge that those are bad designs.
Frankly, it's astonishing this game has such high regard. I rarely take the time to review games, but it seems WoL fans need to desperately wake up.
Cons: It's extremely challenging... (Okay let me finish--) It's not challenging in the way that it's something you'll eventually master and have FUN mastering, but rather it in the way that you'll take damage for literally no reason. The hit-box for the player seems completely arbitrary, and the rooms are often cramped with traps, pits, and more enemies than suit the capacity. Some of the bosses' attacks are so absolutely unavoidable that I can't even tell if the devs have played their own game. I've yet to stumble upon one noticeable synergy between relics, and most of the relics seem to fall flat in actually aiding the player. The only "balance" I can think of is how enemies can be pushed into pits, but that feels exploitative! If you have only close-range arcana, you WILL NOT escape being hit.
The gameplay is horribly programmed, but what about the rest of the game? Well, I've beaten it twice so far, and can say I haven't felt the slightest bit rewarded. (spoiler) Really? You give me a relic that makes the game harder? As if it really needs that? (/spoiler) The devs handled the rewards in the worst way possible; when you beat a boss, you will receive a modicum of health, but a MILLION chaos gems, allowing you to unlock everything in the game almost instantly. I don't get any sense of accomplishment, none at all. Very rarely, the game will drop free relics or arcana, but half of the relic drops are cursed (which is great because cursed relics are almost always useless). Sometimes, the game will even be so gracious as to give you either a chest brimming with yet more chaos gems or a chest that requires arcana that you will 90% of the time NOT HAVE.
Finally, if you couldn't have guessed from other reviews, there isn't much to this game. The arcana are bountiful and actually really FUN and CREATIVE (basically the only pros, btw), but the levels, rooms, and enemies are hugely limited, making this feel like more of a 5 dollar game from the app store. I truly hope they improve the game, but until then, no matter how much I play it, I'm never going to feel like I've got my 15 dollar's worth.
