Even if you don't normally play strategy games l encourage you to at least try the demo for Anomaly Warzone Earth. It might look like another Command& Conquer or random tower defense game on the surface but there is something truly original, highly challenging, and compulsively addicting with this game. And even if you already own this game on PC or iOS, I daresay the Tactical Trials is worth a double-dip. At only 800 MS points, this is the best $10 you'll spend in the Xbox Arcade this month.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth is an exciting strategy game that enthusiasts and casual fans should play. The role reversal does wonders in making tower defense feel fresh again; route and formation planning are excellent replacements for guiding enemies in other games. The ability to control an on-screen commander who has to worry about a myriad of things certainly adds a new wrinkle to the proceedings and ensures no lulls in game activity. The great controls and graphics make up for the sound issues, and the length and difficulty of the game feel spot-on. With the game available on more than one platform, that's one more chance for people to try it out.

Tower defence games have been done to death, yet here Anomaly adds an excellent twist to the genre. If you have the PC or mobile version, then this may not be an instant purchase, but if not, then you just need to pick it up.

In case you don't have a computer to play games on, this XBLA version of Anomaly Warzone Earth is just as good the original, and one less reason to avoid putting off playing this game.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth is one of those games that features a small set of simple rules and controls that give way to a surprisingly deep strategy game.

If you enjoy tower offense style games, or want to experience the new city, the harder challenges, and other content, then the answer is unquestionably yes.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth does something different with the tower defense genre and does it well. You're dropped in the middle of the action and always have something to do. The Tactical Trials are a great addition to this XBLA version of the game. They are fun and make you try something else. A great game, for only 800 Microsoft Points.

The unique tower defense hybrid Anomaly: Warzone Earth makes a smooth transition to the Xbox 360.
  9. Apr 11, 2012
As a whole, it's a pretty great experience on XBLA, and one that I feel you should certainly check out. Even if you're pretty tired of anything remotely labeled as a Tower Defense game nowadays, as I certainly am, you'll find Anomaly's approach to the genre refreshing.

Take the tower defense genre, fold it back onto itself, slap it with Command & Conquer and you'll get Anomaly: Warzone Earth. What you get with Anomaly: Warzone Earth is a solid, if unspectacular, tower offense game that's maybe just a hair too thin and unbalanced to truly be something special

If this if your first contact with this unique take on a beloved genre, you'll find several hours' worth of fast-paced strategy waiting for you in Anomaly's agreeable warzone.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth is probably one of the best experiences you can find in any digital service in these first four months of 2012.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth was a welcome breath of fresh air for the popular tower defense genre when it released last year, and none of the clever mechanics, gorgeous visuals, and addictive fun were lost during its move to XBLA.

Anomaly Warzone Earth was a fun game when it came out last year for the PC and the development team has done an exceptional job bringing it over to the Xbox 360.

The layout design and storyline certainly does not short Anomaly Warzone Earth's satisfying gameplay. It is a strategy game through and through regardless of what kind of tower game it should be. Introduced initially on PC/Mac and touchscreen devices, Anomaly Warzone Earth does just fine on console and won't disappoint newcomers to the title or tower defense fanatics.

After playing countless of me-too Tower Defense off-shots, it's incredibly refreshing to see a game that effortlessly manages to spice up the formula with great mechanics, pin-point controls, exhilarating strategic depth, hectic action and a terrific audiovisual presentation. Toss in the lengthy campaign and enjoyable extras, and the kooky plot and lack of multiplayer are the only missteps in this otherwise incredibly solid and thoroughly entertaining strategy/action title.

The constant shuffle between real-time mobile defense and time-pausing tactical route planning is both seamless and nerve-wracking. Even after you know every crisply rendered map back to front, you may find you just want to keep playing.

While it's hard to control, Anomaly is still playable and enjoyable as long as you take the time to really master the interface first.

Even though the game has been adapted from several platforms, it still feels immediately comfortable on an Xbox 360 controller. Additionally, the game's refreshing take on tower defense and strategy as a whole makes for a pretty unique experience.

Porting over to a console had no adverse affect - short of the lower res visuals - making this one of those 'must own' games for any console tower defense fan.

11 Bit Studios sent us over the code to check out the Xbox Live Arcade version of this interesting game. Anomaly: Warzone Earth is a bit of a twist on tower defense gaming. Rather than being the one defending against incoming forces, the player is the one defending their column of military vehicles going in to take down the defenses.
  24. Apr 17, 2012
The title developed by 11 Bit Studios is certainly a curious representative of its kind. All lovers of Tower Defense and tactical games in general should definitely buy Anomaly: Warzone Earth and test its ability to push the player to think quickly and act. For lesser experts, our advice is to wait for a bid before the purchase.

I'm not sure if Anomaly: Warzone Earth is the first game to flip the tower defense genre on its head, but for me it's the first game I've experienced that does and on the whole I enjoyed it.

The story is centered on an alien spaceship that falls to Earth, as its pieces fall into cities as Baghdad and Tokyo, that create energy domes (called anomalies), which obscure the view from the outside world. Your mission as a Commander mechanized unit, is to investigate this phenomenon, leading a unity of military vehicles. In the gameplay, which can be defined as a mix of RTS gameplay and Tower Defense, in essence, you have the role only of the commander of the units, and can perform multiple functions (and new emerge later in the game), serving as the units repair, "factory" and upgrade of you team military units (each one with its advantages and disadvantages), and issue areas of concealment, through a defined map with multiple routes, and you decide the route to the units follow, while collecting repair credits (dropped by stealth bombers), and alien minerals along the way, as they engage the enemy defense towers (there are several types), to finally reach the goal of the stage. The game has graphics viewed from above, in a 3/4 perspective, that are good, but nothing that stands out - the sounds and music are good to (better than the graphics), and fit the game well, but the highlight is in the gameplay, as a reversed Tower Defense game, with dynamic actions, and which goes through areas of the cities, as the story unfolds... destroyng enemies and collecting the minerals you gather more credits, which are used to purchase new units and to upgrade the existing ones. Because of the different approach to the genre, I recommended this game for fans of Tower Defense games - with a fast gameplay, and the adequate price, it's an addictive XBLA, despite the overall simplicity being a great option for those people. My score: 7.5 / 10.0. Full Review »

Pretty original twist on a tower defense. The game utilizes ideas from Tower Defense by flipping the concept upside down, plus there are RTSPretty original twist on a tower defense. The game utilizes ideas from Tower Defense by flipping the concept upside down, plus there are RTS elements like resources gaining / spending, plus there's a bunch of action elements represented by controlling a commander who's equipped with power-ups to shift enemies. The story will take you approx. 6 hours to complete but if you're hungry for more, there's a set of survival modes to unlock and some kind of virtual missions challenging you with puzzle-like goals to achieve. Enough for a 800 points game. Plus it's localized to German and several other languages, like Japanese (!). Full Review »
