Charlie Murder is an absolute must for many gamers, especially if you’re looking for a new beat ‘m up or a fun co-op game. By combining simple action with loot and extensive character classes, Charlie Murder offers more depth than you might expect. It pays to think about how to level your character and selecting the right items. With a lot of content and diversity, the cool style and great humour Charlie Murder adds up to a great XBLA title.

There are elements to Charlie Murder that are certainly less unique than others, but as a whole this is one of the better RPG/brawler hybrids that I’ve ever played.

At only 10 bucks, Charlie Murder is both a killer game and a solid value for solo artists; for anyone with a few friends willing to join the slaughter, it’s damn near mandatory.

Charlie Murder is an extraordinary beat'em up that will offer you endless hours of action filled and fun gameplay. Its extraordinary soundtrack will submerge you in an apocalyptic punk world ravaged by the forces of evil and your mission is to send them back to the Netherlands. Ska Studios outdid themselves and created some of the most memorable characters in this genre's history.

A sizeable package perfectly suited for bustling, loot distributing, sofa-based party play. [Nov 2013, p.69]

Charlie Murder is a hard-rocking good time on its own merits, not the least of which are the multiplayer and RPG facets that combine with satisfying classic Ska Studios brawling gameplay.

Still, the fighting is fun whether you go solo or with allies, the minigames help break up any potential monotony, and the loot system will entice people into going for another round. Wrap that up in the top-notch stylized presentation, and it's easy to see why Charlie Murder is highly recommended.

With its cartoon punk press aesthetic, excellent soundtrack and lengthy-but-unpadded campaign, there's little reason not to enthusiastically recommend Charlie Murder.

There's no getting around the fact that Charlie Murder is a blast to play, alone or with friends, and that it's well worth your $10 if you love beating the crap out of zombies and laughing at bloody, disturbing, slapstick antics.

With its wild punk rock vibe, Charlie Murder is a solid game offering up more then the average Xbox Live arcade title. The lengthy campaign is a lot of fun to tear through with friends, and the great soundtrack makes for a fun atmosphere.

The dark and humorously grim atmosphere help make Charlie Murder a unique brawler that knows how to throw a punch and stands out from others in the genre.

So this is what happens if you mix Dishwasher with Castle Crashers and add some punk rock.

If you like this kind of old school beat 'em ups and you have 800 MSP, it's one of the games you should seriously consider buying.

Crappy punk music, breweries, tattoos, and exploding heads - can’t get much more party than that.

If you enjoy a fun beat ‘em up and have a few friends that don’t mind a ton of gore, Charlie Murder is a pretty good bet.

Charlie Murder is a much more complex game than fans of Ska Studios’ previous works will be expecting. It’s still a rebel, but this time there’s a cause to be found. RPG-lite elements, inviting co-op play, and zaniness combine to create a likeable, refreshing take on the brawler.

Charlie Murder is one of the best beat'em ups we've seen recently on any system. Is not perfect and has some flaws, but his RPG elements and the funny mechanics are pretty good. Also, it has a cool co-op mode. If you like Castle Crashers, you'll love this one.

Charlie Murder is full of amazing moments you'll want to tell your friends about. Unfortunately, the repetitive gameplay and overlong story works against the otherwise fun package. The good news is that the amazing music and presentation makes up for a lot of its shortcomings.

Unfortunately, Charlie Murder isn’t quite able to live up to its potential. When I first saw the trailer, Charlie Murder seemed like the shot in the arm brawlers needed. Visually, it is, but the sometimes-clunky gameplay hurts it quite a bit. Still, at a mere $10, it’s hard not to recommend Charlie Murder even with its flaws.

A more than satisfying beat´em up multiplayer experience with minor RPG touches and weird minigames. A blast to play with friends.

Beer and blood spray punctuate the fun punk rock brawler Charlie Murder.

Charlie Murder mixes so many elements so well that it's worth the effort to make it work — assuming you've got the friends, and the communication skills.

The disruptive menu-tinkering and poor checkpoints cause plenty of frustration, but Charlie Murder can be a blast if you’re playing with three friends who understand the game. Ska Studios has created an entertaining 2D brawler, even if it doesn’t stand alongside the elite entries in the genre.

Charlie Murder is an uneven, yet decidedly fun hybrid of brawler and RPG with a kick-ass punk rock soundtrack.

Despite the uneven feel, there's a solid foundation underneath Charlie Murder, and fans of beat 'em ups will find plenty to enjoy as they bash their way through hordes of the undead while listening to a pretty kickass soundtrack.
  26. Silva has got a razor-keen eye for what makes a satisfying brawler, and fans of The Dishwasher will be relieved to find his art and musical direction intact. [Oct 2013, p.89]

The newest game from the creators of Vampire Smile is a "punk-rock" action brawler that has a lot of interesting ideas, but soon becomes quite repetitive due to its weak fighting system.

This is a nice beat 'em up title with four player co-op support, but it isn't really special. Most frustrating is the bad save system, like it was 20 years ago.

All told though, once you get past the initial baptism of fire Charlie Murder still has lots to recommend it. With the addition of two further playthroughs of increasing difficulty available once you complete it, there’s plenty of longevity in the game. Whether you’ll want to do it solo is another matter though. Grab some friends and turn the dial up to eleven - it will make for a far better experience.

A punk-apocalyptical action game with an intense rock&roll atmosphere. Charlie Murder is a real treat for fans of old school "beat 'em up" games, although the gameplay suffers from stacking too many underdeveloped ideas into the same package.

Charlie Murder relives the good old days when games like Double Dragon and Streets of Rage reigned supreme. As fun as that may be, Charlie Murder also forgets to get with its time. This beat ‘m up offers a sizable amount of fun, with some antique concepts.

Dull minigames don’t do the Charlie crew any favors, but the RPG elements give us something to fight for.

With all of the positives, then, its just a shame that infuriating checkpoints and shoddy bosses hold back what is otherwise a really enjoyable trip down memory lane. Charlie Murder never breaks new ground in terms of gameplay, but with a couple of fellow safety-pin pariahs by your side, there’s no doubting that this can be a hell of a ride.

It's hard to tell where the punk lifestyle ends in Charlie Murder, whether in the game or with Ska Studios itself, and the game's insane, patchwork gameplay is a thrill.

Unless you’re really, really into brawler games and have a few like-minded friends on hand, you can safely take a pass on this year’s second Summer of Arcade title. Despite novel graphics and a silly story, it feels kinda bland.

Charlie Murder represents a studio heading in the right direction, but it still feels like painting by numbers.

I got this game for free on Xbox Live Gold, and instantly regretted it! This is one of those games that try to act cool to appeal to big audiences, and uses that as an excuse. The game just makes no sense. The plot is all over the place. In fact, there barely is a plot. Most of the time you're just mindlessly punching enemies, and even that is painfully boring. I will say that the RPG elements are alright, but that doesn't excuse it of anything. Don't buy this game, even if it's free. Full Review »

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. This is not a game that anyone should pay money for, it truly does deserve to be free with gold and thats how i obtained the game.

Its problems begin with non voice acting and a confusing story that makes you guess what is going on through the entire game. If you want to play this game with friends over xbox live, be prepared for serious game lag and glitches. It seems like any time there are a large amount of characters on screen, the game lags out and cant handle itself, special moves dont connect and frustration sets in.on more than one occasion the game has frozen or wont let us out of the pause menu. The characters are not matched for their abilities so you actually have to choose wisely, and the instrumental sections are impossible unless you choose the female who plays the tambourine so she only clicks A a few times. i imagine this is a sexist jab of some sort

Positives: It was free, it is multiplayer co-op which is hard to find in 2014. some free achievements
