The underlying game has aged brilliantly. [Issue#67, p.103]

In spite of dated graphics and other technical whizbangery, Crazy Taxi will remind you why you love driving games - and who started that fire. It's a game that's fun to play in short bursts that will become longer and longer the more of them you devote to it.

Despite its flaws, for $10 (or $8 for PS+ members), this isn't a bad deal since the core game is still a blast to play and replay thanks to its addictive nature. The loss in licensing doesn't hurt as much as one might think, and despite over a decade passing since the game's initial release, its gameplay has stood the test of time.
  4. Nov 23, 2010
The game play is simple if not addictive and will provide hours upon hours of game play fun, even if each game will last you anywhere from 5 to 10 min a piece.
  5. Jan 2, 2011
Crazy Taxi isn't just a nostalgic trip, but also a wondrous stress reliever and an all-around entertaining game.
  6. Dec 21, 2010
In conclusion, Crazy Taxi may not hold the attention of most gamers but for those wishing to walk down memory lane, it's definitely a great investment to play this classic game.
  7. Nov 28, 2010
Crazy Taxi has a great design and lots of challenges, but Sega should have put some extra work into the driving physics.
  8. Nov 19, 2010
At the low price of $10, I have no qualms about recommending it. Bumps and all, it's still a hell of a fun ride.

For nostalgic fans who can hang in there--or first-time players--earning "crazzzzy money" still has its mome4nts. [Feb 2011, p.81]
  10. Dec 21, 2010
Crazy Taxi could last you a while, but most of the game's longevity will come from maximizing your scores, trying to climb the leaderboards, and trying to collect all of the achievements for each of the three game modes.

The trouble is, after half an hour you'd be wondering why you got so excited in the first place, switching shuffle back on swiftly.
  12. Nov 23, 2010
The game may not have aged well in some areas, but given its fair price, newcomers looking for a fun and unique arcade experience should check out this port of Crazy Taxi.
  13. A piss-poor port. [Feb 2011, p.121]

    A re-release that's only just worth the fare. [Feb 2011, p.103]

It's Crazy Taxi as you already know it: if you've already played it, there's no reason at all to spend more money for the same deal.
  16. Dec 20, 2010
Crazy Taxi keeps all the good things that made it so fun ten years ago. It is a good arcade driving game, but Sega has missed the chance to offer improvements, new features or just a little enhancement to foster it.
  17. Nov 29, 2010
The controls and graphics have not aged well, but underneath it all, it is still fun to earn some crazy money.
  18. Nov 29, 2010
But the goal of a port whose appeal is laden in nostalgia is to bring that nostalgia on board, and unfortunately it's very apparent what is missing in this game.
  19. Nov 19, 2010
The essence of Crazy Taxi is still here and, at its core, this is still an enjoyable game. It just isn't going to satisfy anyone who cared at all for SEGA's final gaming console.
  20. Nov 17, 2010
Gameplay is pure repetition; fun in short bursts but little lasting attraction.

If anything, Crazy Taxi is a nice history lesson in gaming and shows a new generation where a mechanic that has been used in several games the past few years originated from. It's furious fun in small doses, but only leaderboard nuts will still be playing it after a few weeks.
  22. Dec 17, 2010
Nostalgia alone is all there is to drive this lackluster game port, and it's not enough.
  23. Jan 1, 2011
Crazy Taxi is a nice bit of fun but can't really hold up as a straight port after all these years.
  24. Feb 18, 2011
    This just can't compete. [Feb 2011, p.91]
  25. Dec 1, 2010
There's no way anyone should spend any kind of money, or even waste bandwidth to download the demo, for this absolute load of disappointment.
  26. Jan 5, 2011
Crazy Taxi is not just a port that doesn't hold up well in the high definition era; it's a sloppy port that's missing the awesome soundtrack of the original game.
  27. Nov 29, 2010
This isn't how nostalgia is supposed to feel.
  28. Nov 29, 2010
Reviving Dreamcast games for the HD generation should involve a little more effort than putting out a slapdash port of the original.

This game is still a lot of fun, even after 10 years. If you have played Crazy Taxi before, then you know it's worth the $10. If not, just imagine doing some GTA-type "drive to the checkpoint" missions in a cartoon-ish city, and old-school arcade driving physics. (You basically can't turn without drifting). I can't say that I've even found a handful of driving games on XBLA worth buying. Crazy Taxi may not be perfect, and obviously isn't as deep as most disc-based driving games, BUT if it weren't for Hydro Thunder, this would be the best driving game under $20 available on XBLA in my opinion. Also, some people may prefer this game over Hydro Thunder, whether you prefer closed-in racetracks (on water) or an open city. If you ask me, a second place finish isn't too bad in this case. this game is basically the same as the original, which is okay because I enjoyed the original brings the insane ideas and gameplay of the original to the consoles, also adds new challenge missions Full Review »

With limited time unable to be disabled, only 2 cities and and a lack of extra content put into this re-release does not justify 800 MS Points, it is exactly the same as before - no improvements such as more cities, more fare destination variety and still the time limit cannot be taken off. I do want to race against the clock sometimes but I also want to have fun and do what I want and I'm sure you would at some point when playing this as well and the next issue is as I mentioned - no extra cities put into this re-release Full Review »
