"This'll be interesting." was my first thought when putting the disc into the drive of my Xbox. This proved to be very true, although not in the way I had expected it to be. Duke Nukem Forever is a game that captures very much the essence of Duke Nukem 3D, it is indeed the same Duke we're about to meet. You really don't need more than a few minutes into the intro to realize this. Paying homage to the original is however nothing you can build an entire game on, and being true to the earlier games is the only thing that is done properly within Duke Nukem Forever. Everything else pretty much sucks. Animations are poorly made and implemented with characters displaying snapping and odd movement patterns. You play in first person view yet there is a ton of bugs related to this. Notice especially how the player seems to hover about a feet above the floor and how it's possible to trigger strafing movement without triggering the strafing animation. Facial animations are so poorly implemented that they seem to have no correlation at all with the content of their audio files. The sound is poor as well, with no considerable variations implemented at all. This makes the game sound repetitive and uninteresting. Just try to jump a few times in a row and listen to the grunting Duke lets out as he lands and you'll understand what I mean. The whole game sounds pretty much like this, apart from the few areas that have for some reason been left totally without any ambience tracks making them feel even more out of place and breaking immersion totally. Considering the competing titles Duke Nukem Forever has nothing to show when it comes to visuals either, it simply looks worse than the titles it's supposed to outrun. I've always thought that the most important thing to pull off when doing a game is the gameplay and since this game doesn't even manage that it's not worth anyones time really. There are huge sections with non-existing gameplay and nothing for the player to do while waiting for some pointless movie (with sucky facials and poor sound) to finish. If you want something that feels like the old Duke Nukem 3D but is a bit new and has boobs that you haven't seen before just replay the old game with some downloaded porno in the background, it's pretty much the same thing. And whatever you do, don't buy this game first hand, there's bound to be a huge second hand market for it within short.… Expand

Jumping into DNF, I was hoping for a 10 out of 10 experience, but after playing the First Access Demo, I knew I was going to have to settle for a 7 out of 10 game. However, only halfway through the game, I had to lower the difficulty, otherwise I would never give this game the fair review it deserved, because I was stuck and with the crappy controls, and useless, un-dismountable MG turret, I was screwed. So after lowering the difficulty, I realized how impossible the game was and unnecessarily difficult it was so early in the game and decided to give it a 5. However, another problem arose, I died a lot, thus, I had to start over a lot, which meant settling through 1 minute load times, and has made me struggle to understand whether this game is actually a good length, or just a 'quicky' (see Duke, I can be sexual and funny too). Then finally I encountered yet another problem, I was constantly being lost. I understand First Person shooters have a higher chance of confusing, or having players lose track of where their supposed to be going, especially with games that have a highly interactive environment like DNF. However, even in Half-Life 2, where the whole environment was practically interactive, the longest I had been confused, or stuck on a puzzle was 4 minutes TOPS. And this game, may I add, takes a lot of notes/example, from Half-Life. This is just a poorly made, Half-Life wanna be. Then I encountered a boss later in the game, that I had to battle under water, and as if underwater moments in games weren't out of style about 4 years ago, DNF has successfully ruined it. They ditched the scuba gear, and made Duke somehow inhale air bubbles. And what's even more depressing was actually making it to the boss, which would be the prime example of my point as to why this game is confusing, and how easily a player can get lost. It took me approximately 5 tries, to realize I had to place a bomb, which had a glowing icon to indicate where the bomb went, but it blended in so well with the environment, that I didn't realize it till around my 10th try... which means about 10 minutes were pissed away for me trying to solve the puzzle. Another, yes, ANOTHER fatal flaw of the game is it's repitition. With all honesty, if you just barrow this game somehow, and play it up to the Alien Queen with the 3 **** (which is only 3/8 of the way through the game), you've experienced the whole game. After that, everything the game has to offer (driving, puzzles, combat, you name it) has been experienced... except for swimming, which could gladly be avoided. At this point, I knew me, trolling this game, was inevitable. There's even a frame rate issue (meaning the game can't even keep up with itself... or at least the system). It seems to be a usual thing now in the community though, because DNF has it, BRINK has it... hell the only game that's trying to not have a FR issue is COD... more games should follow THAT example (not COD). The multiplayer is very bland, nothing exciting, yes even the "Capture the Babe" mode is just capture the flag at heart, nothing new, nothing special. The Digs is pretty neat and gives you something to work for. However, all in all, I can't stress enough, how bad this game is. It was NOT an enjoyable experience, as much as I tried to make it...… Expand

This has to be one of the worse games I have played in a LONG time. The jokes in the games are not even funny. You start off the game Pissing... RT to piss.... wow.... very clever. The first gun you get has 69 bullets and after that there is 69 floors in the elevator. It feels like a 13 year old wrote this game with the stupid humor. You can actually get an achievement for picking up poop in the toilet "Turd burglar" yeah... this game is crap. The multilayer is garbage, maps are small as hell, targeting system is bad, spawning points are sh*te.… Expand

Played the original and loved it. Hoped this one would be worthwhile. It isn't. It's dated, clunky and it just isn't fun. The graphics and the humor are 10 years outdated, the game play is uninspired and it just plain sucks. There are a million games out there that are better than this. It will be in the bargain bin in no time, save yourself some money and wait if you really want to play it.

Not worth 60 dollars. Absolute worse game this generation. I really hated this game demo, but people who got the game early in Europe said the game was decent. Then the reviews dropped saying this game was garbage, but still I wanted to try it out for myself. Don't listen to anyone who gives this game above a 4. They are in denial that they just wasted 60 dollars on this game. It's not funny. It's got horrible graphical problems. Extremely long loading times throughout the levels. Archaic gameplay designs. If this wasn't called Duke Nukem it would just be another mediocre first person shooter that would be put in the bargain bin a week after release, its really that poor.

Bad graphics, bad jokes, horrible game-play, long load times=a complete disaster. I have no idea why people are defending this game. It represents everything bad about the games industry. Gearbox should be ashamed. This has tarnished their rep.

Sorry but in a cut-throat recession hit community, to release slop like this is a crying shame. I appreciate after 13 years, it's a huge achievement to get a game published, but what exactly were the developers thinking? This is people's hard earned money and poor games means store seller's such as myself take a lot of heat when people find excuses to return under-par games. Then there are the graphics which could have been from a Commodore. Hey C4Eva, you seen better right? I hate to slate a highly anticipated game, and I didn't for other's but if I let this slide, I wouldn't be a true critic. I am sure the game will bear well with the die hard 40 somethings but I am not there yet and neither is this game. Now, I used to play all of these types of games on floppy disks. Duke Nuke, Hexen, Wolfenstein, Doom, Heretic and others, but this piece of garbage does nothng to honor these games. The game play is horrible, the load times are close to a minute and the mini movies are way too long. I was hopng for so much more. If I bought this back in the 90's, this would have been cutting edge, but come on man, this is horrible. I can't think of anything (except for throwing feces) that has even been remotely fun about this. It is almost painful trying to play this. The original Duke is so much better than this junk. I oft read other user reviews who say the game is good for nostalgia or fans of the old Duke Nukem and I really don't understand such comments. To put it in perspective, I grew up during the 3D gaming revolution: I remember buying and playing Wolfenstine 3D, Doom, Quake, Heretic, Duke Nukem, and Unreal when they were new. According to some reviewers, I should be THRILLED for Duke Nukem Forever.. But after 6 hours of playing it, I was completely disgusted by it and simply could NOT play anymore. Yes, the game looks, feels and plays dated. Yes, the voice overs are atrocious. Yes, Duke still references crappy movies of the 80s and 90s (with some more modern ones, like a line or two from "300"). But the gameplay is just boring, linear and horrendous. It feels like Gearbox took a turd - a running joke of game production gone awry - and polished it, trying to incorporate modern game designs into it, before pushing it out to say they actually brought out the game. The end result is a game that has the worst of old shooter design and the worst of new shooter design. All in all, this game was better left as a running joke and should have never seen the light of day. As for nostalgia, $60 is a steep price for a game that everyone admits still looks, feels and plays like a 1999 title. This title will be in the bargain bin soon, and thankfully so. I tried to give this game a chance but it was uninspiring and tried to be funny and failed. I wish it were better and I could learn to like it butit has frustrated me to the point that I will be trying to sell this game asap. I may trade it in and get back some of my money.

I wanted this game to be fun. I wasn't expecting a miracle, but this is actually painful to play. The load times are terrible. Given the shoddy and simplistic graphics, clunky and inaccurate animations, as well as the smallness of the levels, such long loading times can only be blamed on poor programming, which is evident throughout the game. Gameplay is straight out of a 90's shooter, which doesn't cut it whatsoever in 2011. Platforming/puzzle segments are terribly implemented, and make an already bad game even worse. I loved Duke Nukem 3D, in its day, but this is barely an improvement. Its decade and a half of development have obviously not been well-spent. Nostalgia evoked by this game wears off after about 10 minutes, and is replaced by the sinking realization that this experience - alternating between boredom and frustration - is a miserable way to spend time and money. Astonishing: This was the most fun shooter-experience since Half-Life 2 but the reviewers smashed this game into the ground. Do not get me wrong: I also enjoyed the Call of Duty games as well as Bad Company or Crysis 2, but those games were more or less similar in some way. Meh Graphics, jokes so bad they'll make you want to bang you head agiesnt the wall and poor enemy ai that is worse than Alpha Protocal's. This game simply does not do the Nukem Series justice. I'm having more fun with this game than I ever had with Call of Duty: Black Ops. Sure this game doesn't advance on any front but it's simply fun. This is everything that should be expected in a sequel to Duke Nukem 3D. If you appreciate run and gun shooters of the past and don't need your hand held through scripted moment FPSes of the current day that are only made to look good on a trailer long enough to trick someone into buying it then pick it up. Just an unmitigated disaster of bad taste layered on poor game design. The jokes likely play best for gamers too young for it's M rating. I played the previous games and they we're fun for their time but that was an era when there was a lot less choice and game ratings were in their infancy. Simply putting boobs in a game to nab a user base seems sad. Like Dad showing up at a frat party.

Ahhh nostalgia. If this game was released 5>10 years ago it would've been great. However it wasn't. Duke Nukem Forever should've really stayed gone forever or the guys who made it should've passed it on to someone who has released a decent game in the last 12 years. Yes it is violent, yes there are **** and strippers and beer and....Oh wait a minute, it's the same game they released 12 years ago. This game is merely a HD remake of Duke Nukem 3D it brings NOTHING new to the table. The graphics are APPALLING (the air hockey table looks like it was taken straight from the beta of Duken Nukem 3D in 1996) the story is the same, the aliens are the same, Duke's comments are, you guessed it the same. Yeah it's funny, the turd burglar achievement had me laughing out loud but the majority of it is cringe-worthy. The only word that really describes this game is sad. Sad because of what it could've and should've been. When you compare it to shooters out these days, hell shooters that came out in the past 5 years this game is utter rubbish. With the likes of Battlefield and Modern Warfare getting sequels later this year Duke simply cannot compare. I'd still say it was junk even if it was an XBLA title which is where it really should be. No doubt in 4 months it'll be on the bargain table at your local games shop where it belongs. Yikes, yikes, yikes. You missed this one Pritchard. What a bad game with horrible graphics and 15 year old game play. It's so bad you almost feel guilty just playing the game for a bit. Then you remember it's Duke and how awesome it once was... and you realize how you've grown up and the entire world has moved on. This game should have never materialized.

For what it is Duke Nukem Forever is an alright game. That's not to say that it's really the game that it really should have been after all this time but still a fun game overall. The multi-player again not quit the best of the best but fun in its own right simply because of the novel twist on the classic modes. They definitely could have put a little more time into this game to polish it a bit.

Its not a bad game by any means just not great or what it should have been Its good in the respect that it has good old duke back and all his quotes and all the original enemy's and weapons but that's where parts of the game fall flat most of the enemy's are the same and are animated very stiffly and really no new weapons beside dukes fists and a two weapon limit? Why? If Prey, DOOM 3 and Quake 4 can have unlimited weapons why cant duke? And another disappointment no mighty foot from Duke 3d just the generic weapon butt attack every fps uses now and days. This is a better game than people are making it out to be. It had such high expectations, but the game did not meet those expectations. However, people had TOO high of expectations from this, and are underrating this game very much.

Duke Nukem Forever was everything it promised it would be. Nostalgic, hilarious, edgy and above all, fun. When did graphics and ingenuity become a pre-requisite to a good game? If you aren't a fan of Duke, you should probably wait for the bargain bin release, if you are a fan have at it. If you are neither of these and you found the game horrible then at least try to see the direction the game takes. It is SUPPOSED to be immature and dated, that's what made 3D so great. If a community can love it then, why not now? Lower your standards a little people, don't let a great gaming icon go down in flames, speak up for DUKE! I'm not even considering purchasing this game. I don't think it is worth it. I mean the game was supposed to be released in 1998. Look it up if you don't believe me. Why would someone of this gaming generation buy a game that has been delayed from being released for 13 years.

this game i efing great but its not flawless in fact it has 3 1. the graphics the graphics arent that bad and at first youll notice them but later youll haveing too mutch fun be blowing the alien bastards) plus i still play snes-n64-ps1-gc-psp-gba-ps3 so it dosent bother me 2.the begining stage (the begining is so long and the action is scarce) after you turn off the game of dissipointment and play again in 2 or three hours you start to see the gem shine) 3.there is no third flaw(the duke cant fail ever) its a great game and after you pick it up again after your 2-3 hour dissipointment break go in expecting nothing and the game will show you how great it realy is i havent finished it yet but i hope its long and cant wait for duke nukem 5 and if it helps i wasnt a hard core duke fan untill this game mostly besause i found out about duke when i was 4 and im currently 15 ps executions are satisfying as hell… Expand

Duke Nukem Forever is an absolutely horrible experience. Let's just get that out of the way. Let me just say that I played Duke Nukem 3D and I loved it, one of my favorite shooters of all time. Back then the game was revolutionary and fun, the humor was risqué but remaining funny and non offensive. Now before I go on I know that many Duke fans, that you have to be a Duke fan or you have to be able to understand Forevr to understand it. See, I could understand this but Duke Nukem Forever is such an atrocity, such an abominatio , so far away from what made the original so grand, and so unbelievably immature, immoral, and sexist, finding no mercy for the poor women surrounded in the evil circumstances. Top that with incredibly tired and dated shooting, visuals, sound design, driving sections, and puzzles all who poke fun at games that Forever has no right to make foul of such as, Half-Life and Halo. In the end Forever comes across as a worthless, tired, and offensive documentation of a game that spent too long in development hell and was truly overshadowed in techinal terms and fun terms by everything else on the market. It is an utterly horrible "game" that will be "forever" remembered as an lackluster and disaster of a game that no chance of success.… Expand

This game is terrible. Honestly, I'm sick people defend this game as being good, when it is far inferior to most games on the market right now. This game would have been great a decade ago, but now it's just garbage. You can get a better shooter than this almost anywhere you look.

I've been waiting 12 years for this game, and I have to weigh in. I found the game to pull on my Nostalgia goggles in a good and new way, I was not comparing it to current titles, nor was I comparing it to it's past. I took it for what it is, and always will be a mystical game rising from the vapors to become real. Plenty of negative reviews on it do bum me out, but I had a blast with the game. laughing at the clunky animations and sounds and textures that harken back to a time when games were made in small dimly lit offices by a tiny team of coders trying to make a living off cheap ramen and cheaper coffee..The feelings I felt whilst playing this game were that of wide-eyed wonder that my 12 year old self had when playing the original. Gritty, edgy, stupid humor and other such tiny oddities make me feel that this game was made to the standards of the past which is, exactly what I wanted to spend my money on. The things I do not like: The halo style weapon system, as well as the lack of my mighty boot. That is all, I loved this game and got full use out of my money, and will continue to in multi-player as well as single-player on a harder difficulty. This game isn't for CoD or Halo babies, its for people who played Duke when it originally came out way back when Windows 3.11 and 95 were around. It brings you back to the 90's. Greatest part ever is picking up a turd out the toilet throwing it against the wall and unlocking the Turd Burglar achievement. I think most the critics had way to high expectation for this game its meant to be the way it is! That being said they could have made it a lot more eye catching in the graphics department and it could have used a bit more polishing overall, but still its Duke Nukem ffs!… Expand

To everyone who blast this game to less than 5 out of 10, you didnt understand anything about it. Its nostalgia and the end of a terrible terrible project of 12 years, and just for that, it should be celebrated. Game is alright by 2001 standards and is very playable. This is not a 0 or 1 game, it's a 5 to 7 game, ugly but effective. Duke is Duke and that's all we wanted.

I've got to admit first that I followed this game for it's entire 14 years of development. However I'd like to point out that I'm also aware that this Build of the game didn't take 14 years to make, it took 5. Remember that DNF was scrapped several times until it's final attempt to make it. That said, I went on to play the game for the first time with really high expectations, the highest possible. And yes, the game didn't meet them, of course. Nothing can meet such hype and expectation built for over a decade. Still the game managed to keep me entertained throughout it's entirety and even had me rolling on the floor laughing. The game IS fun. You only need to know that this isn't supposed to be the second coming of Christ. It's a funny enjoyable game. It has it's flaws, yes. Like the linearity, sometimes empty rooms, and so on. Still, for me, the good out weighed the bad. I'm one of the lucky people that had fun with the game and didn't finish it in disappointment. I'd like to say thank you to everyone that made this game possible. I sure had a blast playing it and I know I'll keep on trying to find more secrets and references. Remember if you're on the 360 install the game to lessen the loading times! Get the game! Don't let the bad reviews discourage you. Everything you could want from a Duke Nukem game! The game solid is good the game itself is fun and there is a lot of humor in the game to make you chuckle every now and again. The graphics aren't the best iv'e seen but their not bad enough for me to complain. The only thing that lets the game down is the loading times in between levels and when you die. After 12 years Duke Nukem Forever could never live up the hype, what Gearbox delivers is most definatly a Duke Nukem game, with all the raunchy humor and outdated one liners you've come to expect from a "Duke" game. Past the Duke Nukem panache it is a fairly mediocre shooter that doesn't do anything to evolve the FPS genre. The graphics are sufficent but outdated and would have been much more impressive 4 years ago. Gameplay wise it is your standard shooter. Overall Duke Nukem Forever is a nostolgic experiance but playing it is more a cathartic culmination of 12 years failed relaunches. So now that Duke Nukem has finally arrived I hope Gearbox leaves this franchise alone and get back to production on Borderlands 2.… Expand

Duke Nukem Forever is another sad case to prove the sorry state of gaming; unrealistic expectations, a non existant sense of 'fun' in favor of ranting about qaulity or design, and completely missing the point of games such as this. Duke Nukem Forever is one of the most fun games I ever played in awhile. I'm serious. Something is wrong with most critics or reviewers. I am not saying they are wrong in their reviews or criticisms, but if they can't have fun with a game like this, then they need to re-check their own human emotions and brain for problems. If I play a GOOD game like Bad Company 2 or Crysis 2, I don't have THAT much fun, but this FUN I should be feeling is what I feel when I play DNF. Tell me, if good games like Mass Effect 2 are supposed to be good, why are they not that fun at all for me? It's because they are stereotypical settings that take themselves too seriously, settings I've seen in the 500 plus games I've must of played in my lifetime so far. Duke Nukem Forever's fun factor lies in how over the top it is; it is literally a world of parodies and over the top action movie cliche's. The shooting itself is fun, and I don't see why anyone would say it is boring or tedious, they would need to get their brain checked because this is honestly some of the most fun killing I ever did in any videogame. Everything oozes Duke Nukem nostalgia at many points, and it helps to elevate the fun shooting. Yeah, the levels seem linear, but they are some of the most varied and diverse levels I've seen in awhile. In how many games do you fight through a fast food joint? In how many games do you shrink and drive an RC car? How many games do you drive a monster truck through a desert? Very little these days, that's what. I realize that the problem with most games is that they try TOO HARD to be AAA productions and 'qaulity' products at the expense of fun factor. Hence why I don't have much fun with many of my other shooters anymore; it's just the same shooting at random military style characters. Crysis 2 may of been a good game, but many gamers complained and complained despite it being a AAA production; which proves that you can NEVER make a truly non linear shooter and that there is no reason to make it non linear. It's a shooter, it relies on your objective being in front of you these days with an easy to understand path and goal. Is there some strange hatred going around towards linear games, or is it just me? I am not going to go so far as to say the game doesn't have any flaws. Because it does. The PC version is superior, as that is the demo I played; but I got it on console instead to make a friend happy because he says I buy too many PC games. Now, on to the flaws: The graphics are ropey as many say, and completely uneven. Many times there are nice texture details, but it is ruined by the blobby, undetailed, strangely animated dynamic shadows and some textures that always stay in low resolution. The levels, as many say, are linear; but because something is linear doesn't mean it's a flaw, it just means it's linear. Also, it is tedious... nope, this game is not tedious, it's a good alien blasting time! I also find that the health regeneration is important to ENCOURAGE run and gun gameplay, a quick trigger finger, and classic Duke Nukem reflexes. This is actually why it is there, it isn't a FLAW. It's just a minor nuisance that mildly hampers the overall fun factor. Some moments of the game are repetitive, but it is only minor moments of repetition. Most of the people who hate this game have unrealistic expectations, and expect something so grand that it would change the face of gaming. For one thing, Duke Nukem 3D didn't change the face of gaming THAT much awhile ago. But that reminds me: How can people enjoy these out dated, classic games; yet constantly bash games like Duke Nukem Forever that have 'out dated' gameplay designs or ideas. I am sure that if Half Life 3 comes out, people will hate it; because it would be SIMILIAR to Duke Nukem Forever in terms of gameplay style and linear levels... really, what do most gamers and critics expect these days? A golden masterpiece of a game? Now now, before I end this, I will have to say that there is nothing wrong with qaulity or polish in videogames. But if it means ruining a game's fun in favor of sitting there being frustrated at flaws YOU YOURSELF are adding to the game then fine; if no one is willing to peel away that the flaws in the game and find a perfectly compentant game underneath, then they should go chill out with a good babe and a good beer. Because Duke is back, even if it is a step backwards, he is still back. At least this game has a 8 hour or longer campaign, it is more 'complete' than Call of Duty any day, and I would rather play it over Call of Duty's short boring singleplayer any day!… Expand

Everything about this game is dated and they never promised us graphics and gameplay that made Crysis or Halo look like crap. Duke Nukem Forever was such a fun game, I really don't get why many reviewers decided to hate on it. There are a few problems, make no mistake - mainly the 2007-2008 level graphics, the fact that Duke can, for some reason, carry only 2 guns, regenerating health instead of health packs. Everything else, though, is excellent, ESPECIALLY if you enjoy Duke Nukem humour. If you do, this game is a true feast. The jokes are second to none, the game just keeps a smile on your face for extended periods of time. There's a LOT of attention to detail (pretty entertaining Duke Nukem burger cartons in one of the stages, for instance). The game offers great variety, it's not all shooting, there are puzzles, there's some first-person platforming (nothing too difficult), a lot of things are covered. The stages are quite varied, both in terms of design and in terms of what you have to do - there are driving stages, water stages, stages where you are small and have to fight your ways through rats or even big aliens, a stage set like a Western movie, etc. There are plenty of entertaining mini-games like pool, weight lifting, pinball, etc. The boss battles are quite epic and intense. I guess the game is a bit on the easy side on Normal difficulty, but then again, you're Duke Nukem, it's natural that you kick epic amounts of ass. The story is nothing special, of course, but the game is all about the humour. Duke Nukem is better than ever, I'd say Jon St. John's voice is even more badass 15 years later!… Expand

First of all I have to start by saying that if you are looking for a run of the mill FPS like Call of Duty or Halo just stop reading now and look elsewhere. However, if you are looking for the nostalgic experience you had in the 1990s (or heard about if you were too young) with the Duke Nukem franchise, then rest assured, Take-Two Interactive and Gearbox Software did this franchise justice. Does the game have state of the art graphics, animations and cinematics that will make you "ooh" and "ahh" at the game designer's wizardry? Nope. This was never what made Duke, Duke. What made him, him was a kickass arsenal of weapons and being a total badass. He gets the girls, he takes steroids, pumps iron, and does whatever the hell he (you) wants to do. As far as the actual gameplay goes the AI is intelligent making combat somewhat challenging for an experienced FPS player. The multiplayer modes work well too. The boss battles don't let you down either constantly barraging with you minions to distract you or gigantic RPG hurtling rockets at you. And of course Duke is funny in the whole process. Must-buy for diehard Duke fans. For those easily offended or looking for another Call of Duty game get Battlefield 3 in November.… Expand

I just want to quickly explain why I bought this game. But first, why I didn't buy it. I did not buy this game because I wanted a fun FPS experience, because I knew it wouldn't deliver. Look at the cover. It screams game not to be taken seriously. Did I buy this game because I thought it would bring a great multi-player into this world. Of course not. Why on earth would anyone think this. Let me summarize what Duke Nukem Forever is: A project that wasn't finished. If you know something about the creation of Duke Nukem Forever, then you wouldn't have been writing all these bad reviews. Everyone here who wrote a "red" review knows nothing about how this game was made. Have you ever spent way too long on something because you wanted it to be as good as possible. That's what they did. Except every time they were close to finishing the game a new physics engine or graphics engine was revealed. so they kept redoing it. And in the end they just said: **** it, lets just release this and get it over with!" Bad graphics? Yes, they were never meant to be as good as Crysis. Bad animation? Yes, because it is supposed to be like an arcade game. Oh and this game wasn't made in 2010. It was made in 1997. You can only adapt so much. I agree, it is not perfect in any way. THE DUKE IS BACK! :D I have no regrets in buying this game. Every second of its gameplay can only be quantified as pure and utter enjoyment. I'm pretty sure that anyone who has rated this game below an 8 has NOT played the game yet!

I'm only posting this because of all the bad reviews. For your information, this game is PERFECT. Don't listen to the haters. Just because older games are making a come back isn't a reason to get down on yourself and your bad taste in games, obsessing over the nuances of a now-old style of "modern" gaming. The game is fun and very duke nukem. Stop comparing games to call of duty and you might find they are actually better then you expected. This is just a fun cult classic. Play it and enjoy.

This game is purely about fun and nostalgia. It amazes me that this is generally not considered the most important criteria to judge a game by. In any case this game is by no means "crap" as some people are saying. Many are complaining that the game play is dated, but duh, that's intentional. We don't need Duke does COD. Well done Gearbox :)

It's not horrible, and considering the history behind the making of it kind of makes the experience a little bit more enjoyable. The controls are a bit over sensitive and don't ease to a stop at all - when you move around everything sort of snaps to place instead of moving with a natural feel to it. The characters are absolutely atrocious, but I think that was the point. Duke Nukem himself is a full of himself **** and he lives in a world centered around him. The game is also very sexist, but this is intentional and I don't think it's meant to be taken as offensively as it's portrayed. There are probably more sex jokes in the game than for its own good and some of the humor is a little lame AND A LOT of the things Duke Nukem says was borrowed from other badass male figures - most of which are from Bruce Campbell movies (like the Evil Dead series - "Hail to the king, baby"). Duke isn't necessarily likable, but, of course, that's the point, and at times his obnoxiousness is very funny. It's kind of like a stereotypical-man's fantasy game with all the women bending over for you and all the other guys thinking your the biggest badass in the world, but at the same time it's a very twisted world, and Duke himself, being so arrogant, can blow up right hand babes of his knowing that he can have as many more as he wants. I, personally, find it darkly hilarious, because it's sort of like... the worst kind of cartoon parallel universe ever. Everything that goes wrong for everyone else can improve your character's ego, and it doesn't matter, because your character is better than everyone else - however this dark joke is taken much too long, and it even feels long for such a considerably short game. Compared to other games out now, this is pretty damn horrible, but that's only in comparison. On it's own, it's okay, and though I'm not too entirely sure about the game's replay value, I can at least enjoy it through one walkthrough - plus, compared to the Duke Nukem games of the past, this is a pretty decent improvement.… Expand

Duke Nukem Forever plays like a nineties FPS & I understand why that doesn't appeal to everyone, but for me it was a breath of fresh air to have a fun and highly interactive world to play in. Bring on more Duke!

This is an okay game. It deserves better scores that some critics have been giving it. It's not particularly original, the humour is hit and miss, the graphics are inconsistent in quality, the gameplay is alternately great fun and a bit boring, and it doesn't even come close to living up to 14 years of expectations. But it's not a terrible game. I'd give it a 6/10, but I'm giving it a 10 in protest of some of the really harsh, venomous, unwarranted criticism it's been on the receiving end of.… Expand

Satire is dead. everybody bought this game thinking it was going to be the usual CoD and gears style macho **** when it really MAKES FUN OF that kind of thing. so naturally, the CoD kiddies are going to think, "omg, this protagonist is such an ass", because they don't know any better and were stupid enough to expect something different from duke.

First of let me address the problems people are talking about in this game. First of they say it has outdated graphics when there are alot of games out there with outdated graphics games like Portal 2 and Deus Ex but people seen to ignore that. Secondly people are saying that the game has boring and repetitive environments, well alot of shooters specially the so called awesome FPS games have repetitive and similar environments as well but most of them seem to get critical acclaim and a positive reception. This game does have similar areas, but they were still fun and entertaining to me and on top of that there is some enemy variety which alot of FPS lack and fanboys and critics just totally ignore them and refuse to point them out as an issue. Than they talk about Duke's character being outdated, well Duke seems to have aged but what were you expecting Duke to be repackaged into a serious. nerdy or a big tough muscle headed guy, that would have been awful and would have killed and destroyed everything Duke Nukem stood for and destroyed his legacy. Sure some of his jokes can get old but there are alot of points in the game where I just cannot stop laughing, like at the parts when he says puzzles are for p*****s. People are also saying that the game is too hard, well if the game is hard than first play on Easy in your first playthrough. Complaining about a game for its difficulty is stupid specially when it has 3 difficulty options. The driving segments were fun for me and a decent change of pace, despite the badly assigned controls. The gun selection and customization options are also good, however I hate that the game has a 2 weapon limit, I will get to that in a bit. The music is classic Duke Nukem and sound effects are also very good. Plus the game has alot of nudity and adult stuff with alot of mature gamers may like. The multiplayer mode is fun and has a good amount of modes to keep your interest invested in it. Sure the execution could have been better and there are a number of flaws in the modes I still enjoyed it. All that being said this game is far from being great, there are a good number of issues the puzzles are just awful and boring, some enemies and all bosses are very overpowered so dying can be a real b**tch, the loading screen takes forever for the consoles,ridiculous voice acting. The mini games that are there are poorly designed and boring. And my major problem with the game is the 2 weapon limit why could it not allow you to carry as many weapons as you want the two weapons limits make the boss battles painful because if you want to win easily and without alot of trouble you will have to use the rocket launcher. The story is ok it is very similar to the old Duke Nukem games having Duke fighting and stopping aliens story is not well written or really in depth or anything but it serves its purpose. However the ending of the game was very very disappointing. Overall I would say the Duke Nukem forever is a good game which fails to live up to its potential and hype and considering this was in development for 12 years expectations were very very high for it. Despite having alot of issues and being dated I still think it has a fine number of things which will be liked and enjoyed by both some long time Duke Nukem fans and new players alike. However I don't recommend buying it you would rather rent it or borrow it first and give it a try and see if you like it. 7/10… Expand

I've never played a Duke Nukem game before this one so I really can't compare it to the other ones, I had heard a lot of mixed reviews, some saying it was awesome others saying it was terrible and the worst Duke Nukem yet, but if this is the worst I can't wait to have my mind blown by the others! this was one of my most anticipated games of 2011, so I had to go out and buy it, and for the most part I wasn't disappointed, the campaign is a lot of fun, with it's crude sense of humor and over the top action, and is easily the best part of this game, and the multiplayer is pretty good I had a lot of fun with it, and brings in a steady string of unlockables which you can look or ogle at in Duke's mansion, but it does have it's flaws it seems to lack polish in some areas, the graphics are dated, and it has some really long load times, so I can really understand why a lot of people hate this, but I love it, it's a great game, and I can't wait to play the older ones, and I hope they make a couple of sequels, "All Hail to the King, Baby!"… Expand

If Jesus came back in this day and age I'm sure people would be pretty dissappointed, after all the stories and tales about him 2000 years ago, even Mr. Christ would struggle to live up to expectations. The same can be said for Duke Nukem. It's been a long time coming, and many would argue it's too little too late. Not me though, because I can see past all it's faults and see the gem as it should be. It's a rough stone, uncut and unpolished, but contains something quite precious underneath. It's such a change to find a game that aims for the fun factor instead of being uber-realistic. People have tried comparing Duke to COD, but this is not a fair comparison. Just because the viewpoint is the same does not mean it has to be the same game - would you compare Gears of War to Tomb Raider just because it's 3rd person? No. Ok, so the bad points - The graphics are shabby in some places (but not others) - the game looks like it's been part-cleaned but never finished. The lip-sink and such are actually terrible, but in some way it all adds to the comedy of the experience. The loading times are a pain to work with, especially when you get stuck on a particular part and have to replay again and again - which happens often, as the difficulty level too is something out of the 90's, rather than the easy fly-through games we get today. However, Duke has just as many good points, which seem to have been forgotten by so many critics that are just intent on blasting it for the fact that's it's taken so long to be released. And this very fact alone is one of the starting jokes of the game - where a girl asks if the game was any good, Duke replies "After 12 F-ing years, it better be". The sense of humour is the same from previous Duke outings - it's sexist, crude, and over-the-top. the faint-hearted or easily offended need not apply. And as for people saying that this game will not appeal to the modern gamer, that the character is out of date - how come nobody says this about Mario or Sonic? The Expendables movie proved that there is still a market for 80's macho-briandead heroes, and this is the game equivalent. All in all, it could have done with more polish, and if it hadn't been so long in the making I think it would have garnered much higher scores than it has. I'll be honest with you, I wanted SO bad to like this game. I tried to overlook all of the Duke's flaws and see it for what I wanted it to be: a classic 90's shooter. Unfortunately this was something I couldn't do. The jokes are funny at times, and there are plenty of call backs to older movies, games, and even internet memes, but for the most part it just comes out as complete unadulterated toilet humor (and trust me that gets old fast). I could forgive the graphics and game engine given how much time this game has been in development, but the fact that they've spent twelve years making what is only the most basic of shooters makes me want to cry. The king may be back, but he's brought balls of fail with him this time. If you're a fan of Duke Nukem like me and have to play this game despite how bad it is, my advice is to either wait until the price drops or rent it.… Expand

Duke Nukem Forever's campaign was really fun, especially the interactive parts at the start. But after completing it multiple times, I tried the multiplayer. I would have rated it a higher mark if it was just the campaign, but the multiplayer is just so bad in my opinion.

I score this game 0 because it is simply not a Duke Nukem game. I like so many other people have waited 12+ years for the return of the king, what we got was another Call of Duty clone. Take away everything that makes Duke Nukem special, and you get this. Being a varitable waling armory of special gun? Nope. Fight hoards of enemies around every corner? Nope, 3 at tops on screen. The only surviving element of the King is his personality. Duke spouts one liners like the King he is, but they ruined him. Duke drunk on one beer? Duke letting some kid push him around? Duke making fun of brown and bloom shooters while being in one himself? All of it adds up to a generic game, and a insult to the King. We waited a long time.... it wasn't worth it.… Expand

I didn't know there were games that could be this bad. Awful graphics are fine, as long as gameplay and story hold up. Both gameplay and story are even worse than the graphics. The gameplay is like any other shooter, however the bosses and level design are atrocious. None of the guns are any fun to shoot and the levels are so bland, so generic you will literally feel like vomiting in the toilet because of the mixture of ugly levels and horrible graphics. The story is obviously nonsensical, but not in the charming or forgivable way. It's told in the most boring manner possible with no hilarious moments even though it seems like they really want to make it hilarious. There's a part in the game where you slap a wall with three boobs and it sounds funny but it's just kind of there and you slap it and duke says some one liner which isn't really funny. If you wanted Duke Nukem Forever to be like Duke Nukem 3D, prepare to be disappointed because it's nothing like it.… Expand

DNF left me feeling depressed and hardly surprised about the games short comings. I certainly hope this doesn't green light remakes of games of the era like Blood, Shadow Warrior and Red Neck Rampage, although due to this abominable failure such things will never surface.

It shocks me when critics and gamer's say why would you play this when you can play Halo, Call of Duty, or Battlefield. Gamer's and critics are missing the point with this game it was never suppose to be a triple A title like those games. Its a comedy people its not suppose to be taken seriously. The game made me laugh from beginning to end. The campaign for the game is around 8 to 10 hours which is very rare for a shooter these days. The game has glitches I'm not gonna sit here and tell you it didn't and yes the online mutiplayer for the game is terrible. People you have to remember this game was announced back in April 28th, 1997 and it came out June 14, 2011. For a game that was 14 years in development they did a good job with this. this was my introduction to the Duke Nukem franchise and I have to admit I am disappointed. the first thing you will notice is an intro scene which you must watch every time you play the game and it has some decent graphics which is extremely misleading. when you get to the start of the game you will laugh at the funny toilet humour interaction which kicks the game off but then as you walk around you will notice some average graphics with below average textures which may never load. THE GAMEPLAY : the gameplay is standard run and gun with a few on rails turret sections and a bad underwater section which is very difficult to control. there are a few interesting bosses, some driving scenes and some basic platforming, so overall gameplay wise there is a lot of variety. THE STORY : the story is very forgettable, it's pretty much the aliens are kidnapping the women which angers duke so you go to kill them while the president thinks you started it all and tells everyone the lie that you did. so the story is pathetic. THE MULTIPLAYER : the multiplayer is very basic gameplay wise but with a few friends or even on your own it is quite fun despite the difficulty of finding a specific just starting match. there is some funny map design in the multiplayer which could have you shrunk down and running through Duke Burger and getting burnt alive in a microwave. there is also some nice customisation when it comes to multiplayer from your headwear, shades and top. THE VERDICT : overall the story mode is average about a 5/10 but the multiplayer is fun and has replay value which seals the game as a 6.5/10. the game is slightly above average so if you don't mind graphics and textures problems and games with a bad story but enjoy toilet humour interactions and one liners then you will enjoy this game.6.5/10 (SLIGHTLY)< ABOVE AVERAGE… Expand

I really wanted this game to be good. After playing it for awhile, I realized it wasn't good so I just wanted this game to be something other than the garbage it was turning out to be. I knew about the graphics and animation and dated game mechanics, but none of that bothers me unless it is fun. I figured it would be good for a few laughs... it wasn't. I didn't laugh once. Jr. High School bathroom humor riddles this trash with the frequency that was really quite insulting. Did the developers really think I would find this type of humor funny? After the second tasteless abortion joke I turned this junk off and traded it in. With all of the anticipation, all the wait, all of the expectation, it really is mind boggling on where this whole thing went wrong. I think what upset me most is that they took a character that was funny with his macho bravado and quick one liners, and turned him into an unappealing jerk. I am not even interested in a Duke Nukem game if this is how they want to keep him. Hopefully Gearbox and 2K will realize their error in not fixing this game before releasing it and try to reboot it with favorable results. I will still not pre-buy it like I did this one. This is the last game I ever put on reserve for early purchase. The second time this year I have been burnt by paying full price for a horrible game. Certainly not worth $60. Not even worth $20. 1. Graphics: The graphics engine used for the game is nowhere near other AAA titles on the market at the $60 price point. No excuses about how the game has been in development for 14 years, etc. It is what it is and either the company lowers the price to reflect outdated tech or deal with the criticism. Even if you're only it for the **** and toilet humor, don't you want the best HD graphics available? 2. Weapons: Can only carry 2 weapons at a time...an attempt at realism, you say? Yes, they were going for realism in Duke Nukem...I'm sure that's it. Shrink gun was decent, but the rest of the selection was nothing impressive. No weapon sights- zooming just pushed the entire screen in a little bit. 3.Level design: Linear. Serious Sam had some sandbox levels, but managed to make the outdoor areas in those games feel fun...DNF felt more like a conveyor belt. 4.Gameplay: It's a shooter. Nothing too complex or innovative about it, but there are certainly better FPS shooter games out there if that's all your interested in. The humor of Duke is what sets this game apart, or rather, what used to set it apart in past versions. Like everything else, the jokes are really up to you to judge. Personally though, I only laughed once the entire game at was at the start when I was stil excited to play.. before the disillusionment set in. It just felt like the game was trying too hard to be funny and it came off like that guy you know that retells jokes from a stand up comedian, but his delivery is all **** up and it just ends up being stupid and sad to watch, but you halfway crack a smile because you don't wanna be rude. 5. Fanboy ValueTilt: Pretty high on this title. If you were a fan of the previous Duke games you will probably like this game no matter what anyone says, and frankly no matter how many problems the game actually has. 6. Bottom Line: Even if you are a fan I would recommend a pass. Save your money and replay Duke 3D again or at least wait until you can find this in the bargain bin.… Expand

This game tries too hard, and ends up stuck in the late 90s, without a leg to stand on or a brain to think with. I didn't like it. I don't think anyone who focuses on today's norm of gaming will like it.

i think that this game well it was good but they should of improve it a lot more. the graphics are OK but to say that this is a Xbox 360 game the graphics should be 10 times better. the loading screen takes the pi*s to load and its very poor indeed i feel sorry for people if they are doing this game on insane difficulty cause the mount of times you die and trust me you will get pi*s off about the loading screens lol. there are times were he is funny but i don't think that this game is a 10/10 .… Expand

What a complete waste of space this game is. When DN3d was out I played it for ages, I turned this cr*p game of before finishing the 1st level it is so bad. Graphics are terrible, game play terrible. I guess if they had released this in the 90's it would have been an OK game. Shame on gearbox.

I can't understand: why nobody like this game? It's really cool! A lot of good jokes, explosive gun part, and driving on the BIGFOOT makes this game quite interesting. I've finished Duke Nukem Forever and I can tell you with great pleasure that it isn't boring. You should try it!

Acceptable graphics, needs to be better. Really is the sum of the total experience and not just the few first levels. Pros: -Interaction -Environment -Delivery -Knick Knacks -Ego Builiding methods fit in nicely Cons: -AI needed to be more aggressive and en masse.(Duke saving the world from a handful of aliens, pshhhuuu...wtf) -Not an awesome shooter in sense of weapon selection (ex. need to expand melee)/ using terrain. -A couple levels lost some focus to fill time( just the driving bit, could have been slightly shorter, unless I missed something. Like the character head from borderlands on the water level ). I knew this game was going to be very outdated when I played it, after all waiting a decade. But I had NO idea it was going to be this bad. The overuse of being shrunk, combined with LOOOOONNNGGG load times made this game pretty much unplayable. Sorry Duke, but your forever ended with this game.

Thoroughly enjoyed this game! Ending was a bit fast but I'm not sure if that's because I completed it on normal difficulty. But yeah - unique, interesting, and stylish! Obviously not perfect and you have to take it on it's own terms and bear in mind it's history. Being a big fan of the previous game, I could appreciate every tweak, change, line, section and desire of the developers to do what they did! Some bits are truly amazing. Very rarely does it seriously disappoint, although the driving sections are a bit dull. Consistently a 7-8/10 in my book :)… Expand

As a gamer of a certain age, I played and loved Duke Nukem 3D back in the day. I've read a lot of reviews from the critics, almost all of them extemely negative. I thought this rather unfair on the game, a lot of reviews written along the lines of "doesn't like like a game in production for 12 years, sexist, swearing, awful graphics, no new guns etc etc". Almost every review I read was the same, ending with a low score. I want to address the balance slightly. DNF may have been in production for 12 years, but given the history of that production it's a miracle the game came out at all. The game repeatedly started from scratch, cancelled, started again, worked on at home by unpaid former employees, the reality is the game has mostly been developed over the past couple of years with some older material and ideas added in. The game is a bit of a mess as a result, understandly. Other negatives thrown at DNF by the critics are about the content of the game, sexism, nudity, swearing. We knew it would contain this stuff though, it's a Duke Nukem game, we were expecting it. The game was written for gamers who played the original Duke games, people who like games with fluffy dancing rabbits should probably not buy it. The game itself is unashamedly old school with lots of aliens to blast, babes to rescue, big guns, cheesy one liners and pop culture references throughout. There's the obligitory driving sections, jumping sections, underwater bits, alien lair level, massive end of level bosses, all unashamedly retro gaming. There are plenty of negatives to dwell on if you were expecting a modern game for a modern audience. But this isn't a modern game for a modern audience, it's a new old game for an older audience which sadly has suffered for all of its development problems. It's a mess, the graphics are adequate in places and poor in others, the loading times are ridiculous, and there's nothing really new in there that we wouldn't have seen in the year 2000 when this should have been released. If you are new to Duke, then the rampant sexism, bad language and nudity will be a shock compared to other shooters. On the positive side, shooting alien pig cops with shotguns is still great fun, stomping miniature aliens shrunk with the shrink ray gun is still funny, as is shattering frozen foes with the freeze ray. Despite it's flaws, if you were a fan back in the day, then DNF is not actually as awful as the smug journalists would have you believe. We knew what we were getting and overall it's not bad. I paid £40 for it and traded it back in 2 weeks later for £35. Did I have £5's worth of entertainment out of the game? Hell yes. Hopefully the game will sell enough copies so that Gearbox Software can produce another Duke game in the future that will redeem this belated effort. I honestly didn't think this game was that bad. I remember being little, Hearing about this game, 2003! 2005! Blah Blah Blah, It never happened. But finally it is here. This game DOES NOT take itself seriously, not that anybody expected it too anyway. If you are a shooter fan pick this game up. It is only like.. 20$ in U.S.A. Well worth 20 bucks

This game might be living in the last decade, but it has character and a great sense of humour that makes it unique, enjoyable and worth playing. I think this is the first game EVER to of actually made me laugh out loud several times throughout the game. It features strippers, swearing, toilet humour and is generally rude, crude and very vulgar, if your in any way offended at all by these or are a bit of prude, then do not play this game, you will not like it! The game actually starts you off in a boss fight, so straight into action, but for the next few levels afterwards the game slows down to a snails pace and relys too heavily on dukes character, one liners and actions for me. Its not until you get a few chapters into the game before the real gameplay starts to hit home. The game also has quite a few half life 2 inspired puzzles scattered around, ok so they dont fit into the incredibly (intentionally) stupid plot but they do well to break up the levels which can feel slightly repetitive. As the game progresses even further, more weapons, enemies and game mechanics are thrown into the mix and the game fares much better as a result. We all know there are a few issues with the game, the graphics are outdated, the textures are outdated, the gameplay is outdated, in fact the whole technology this game is based on.. is outdated. Outdated doesnt mean bad though, some people think, if the game doesnt have A, B or C then its not worth playing.. as duke would say... "My balls, your face"... I think on the whole, this game has been very harshly reviewed by critics and users alike... If I compare it to Wolfenstein which has got a much higher review score, Wolfenstein has more weapons, lengthier campaign, not totally linear, more features and probably better mulitplayer.. which game would I rather play - Duke Nukem, every single time - its way more enjoyable to play. The only one real bugbear I can really throw at this game and one that does negatively affect the game is the long loading screens, they generally last about 30 seconds but they occur going into each new level, and more painfully, everytime you die, which make tricky areas a chore. Thankfully the game isnt too hard, even on the hard setting, there were only two areas which took a while to complete for me. At the start of the game I was a bit worried the game wouldnt do the Duke name proud, at the end of the game I thought the game could of done with a bit more polish.. but I really enjoyed it and glad the king is back! Duke Nukem Forever is a great game. Yes it has some flaws, but we shouldn't expect any game to be perfect. Most of the current shooters are not perfect, polished games. This game might not be as good when compared it its predecessors, but it's a good game in itself. have never played any previous Duke Nukem games, nor had I even heard of him, but this game is one of my favourite. Games are supposed to be fun. You don't need stunning graphics and perfect mechanics to have a good time. I enjoyed both the story mode and multiplayer. The comical one-liners also add to the laughter of the game. It's a fun experience and a unique game. I recommend Duke Nukem Forever to anyone who wants to have a laugh, and relive this much loved old school game.… Expand

I really don't understand the reviews for this game. I'm a big Duke Nukem fan and have been waiting on this for a while now and was not let down one bit. Sure it has some problems including glitches and graphics that could be better but it has a ton of personality and fits in well in the DN series. You can't compare it to other recent shooters like Halo or COD and to due so is not fare to the game or creators. This game was in development for a long time and that needs to be taken into consideration. If you like games that are fun and have personality and can over look some problems here and there then you will enjoy it. The online though is awful so I say skip that.… Expand

If you like Duke Nukem 3D, youll like this game. If you despise the character or were too young to play Duke Nukem 3D, or simply dont remember it at all- ignore this and go play your CoD. This game is made for the fans of DN only. I believe many people are bashing it simply because it took so long to come out and its an easy target after all the hype, which is unprofessional. Heres what I liked: 1.Lengthy single player game. 2.Good pacing thoughout. 3.Duke says some funny stuff throughout the game. 4.Simply fun to play. Heres what I didnt like: 1. After installation on the xbox 360 HDD, load times between deaths/levels are still about 25 seconds. 2. Graphics are fine, but framerate can get muddy if explosions going onscreen. 3. You would think it would be the most amazing game in the world with having it take that long. Well as you can see by the reviews, it definitely did not live up to the hype that a lot of people gave it. The game is just like any other typical first person shooter and really nothing more than that. The monsters tend to glitch every now and then and a problem many Duke Nukem fans were angry about was that you could only carry 2 weapons at a time (The old Duke could carry a lot more). The story isn't anything special and the cut scenes in the game are pretty awful (Mouth movements of other characters do not match up when they speak and some enemies move like robots more than monsters. On the lighter side though it does bring you back to the old school run and gun games like Doom (Personally Excited for Rage BTW) and Duke's witty one-liners will help keep your mind in the gutter throughout the game. If you were a huge Duke fan than it may be worth your while to pick it up. If you"re a casual gamer looking for a great first person shooter, I would look elsewhere.…… Expand

Plenty of reasons exist for gamers to dislike DNF, but only one stuck out to me enough to mar the game experience: the technology running the game is a mess. Loading screens will easily last 30 seconds or longer (something I don't normally complain about, since Mass Effect 2 also had long load screens - except ME2 actually had gameplay worth waiting for), textures rarely ever load right away, and the quality of the graphics inversely relates to the framerate (i.e. good graphics with bad framerate, bad graphics with smooth framerate). I think I would have been willing to overlook any of the game's shortcomings if it looked and ran as well as Call of Duty or any other big-budget shooter. It's not the most inventive game to come around, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun. I actually had more fun than I was expecting to with the driving/platforming segments, and the shooting itself boasts a large variety of weapons and enemies. The level design is pretty linear, but the backdrops were often exciting to me. Sadly, the game seems to struggle even with the archaic technology behind it. It's not unplayable, but prepare to be frustrated by at least a few things if you decide to pick this game up.… Expand
