Codemasters Birmingham has excelled in improving upon F1 2010, resolving some of the issues that held back its first effort, with a game that offers the definitive Formula One experience.

For hard-core auto racing gamers, especially those that are fans of Formula 1, Codemasters revs up an immersive, realistic racing simulation in F1 2011 with all the official drivers and tracks of the F1 circuit and a nice selection of gaming modes, including a engrossingly robust career mode.

Much like Madden, NHL, or any other hardcore simulation of a sport, F1 2011 is really meant for fans of the sport, and little else. More casual racers won't find what they're looking for here. If you're a hardcore Formula One fan, this is your holy grail.

This game is only for those who follow the F1 sport and who knows a thing or two about racing. Sorry, Mario Kart experience doesn't count.

Casual racers need not apply. Even when you try to dumb down the game with options and settings F1 2011 will prove too taxing for all but the most serious F1 racing fans. Bring a good sound system, a comfortable chair, and a reliable racing wheel to the table and prepare for the ultimate F1 racing experience you can have without leaving the house…or the country.

On the surface, the changes made to F1 2011 over its predecessor seem small, but once you start a career mode or get to grips with car setup, you'll find that the game really is the huge overhaul they claimed it would be.

F1 2011 offers an very solid racing model, spectacular weather effects and is overall a highly authentic Formula One-game. A certain lack of polish in some areas prevents it from becoming a true classic, though don't let that stop you.
  12. 80
F1 2011 is full of the kind of improvements that you can't see, but will be instantly felt by anyone who has spent a significant amount of time with last year's effort. It's a big step forward for fans of Formula 1, but F1 2011 is also a game that will only appeal to that very specific audience.

F1 2011 shows improvement over its predecessor of last year in both polish and fidelity to the Formula 1 traveling circus, but might be too complicated for the F1 novice. Watching a few actual races first would help the novice get up to speed.

If you like the mystique of F1, don't hesitate to go out and grab this game. If you're a fan of one racing style, but not F1, I'd still say give it a go. If you don't like auto racing at all, but want an over the top racing game to play in your spare time? This probably isn't it, unless you're into a highly precisioned, more realistic racing style.

If you enjoy F1, there really is no excuse not to pick up F1 2011 - it's a wonderful balance between simulation and fun, although the learning curve is still relatively steep which may frighten off some gamers.

Formula One 2011 is an excellent racing game that respects and loves the sport. It's all about practice, precision and performance. All great components for a racing game.

For now though this is the definitive Forumla 1 videogame, and pretty damn essential for fans of the sport.

Overall, this game is a true simulation of today's grand prix racing. It is both as accurate as you could hope to realistically be able to play. Graphically and acoustically it is superb. If you like Formula One racing and want to play it at home on your console or PC then this game is the pinnacle of simulations on the sport ever produced. The only thing missing is the cramped cockpit and the g-forces you would get in the real thing.

F1 2011 is a technically stronger outfit than its predecessor, with some sweet new additions for fans, but we can't say that it's absolutely vital unless you're very passionate or curious.

F1 2011 is a good game built on a solid foundation that is only improving with each annual installment. Still, Formula One racing is not every gamer's cup of tea. It's strangely addictive, but it doesn't have the pick-up-and-play nature of a Burnout game. Dirt and Grid are more down to earth than Burnout, but F1 makes them look a lot like OutRun.

The changes to this years edition aren't big enough to be able to look on F1 2011 as a gigantic leap forward, but then they didn't need to be. Fans of the sport will no doubt find themselves questioning whether or not the new features and updated roster are worth their money, but it is undeniably an improved version of what was already a fantastic title.

This is the "F1 2010 that should have been". With this year's edition, Codemasters offers a truly remarkable racing experience that should not be missed by fans of Formula 1.

Thanks to differentiated difficulty modes and a wide variety of assists, the developers have created a game suitable for both casual and more advanced gamers with some beautiful graphics to serve as an ornament for exciting races. It's a pity there are some minor flaws - especially those ridiculously long loading times can destroy the minds of less patient players. Codemasters' game is a step forward from last year's F1 - hardcore gamers won't find anything here but others surely will be satisfied and should enjoy sitting in a safe and well paid Formula 1 driver's seat.

Codemasters puts you yet again behind the wheel of a great game. There are a lot of extra options that give F1 2011 some extra depth, making this one of the best racing games of the year. Some people might however have a lot of trouble with the high difficulty of the AI.

F1 2011 may not be a huge leap from 2010, but it's an improved leap. It brings better car physics, improved graphics, smarter AI and just an overall tighter feel to every facet of the title.

Pretty much an essential purchase for any self-respecting petrol-head, and a lot more compelling and enticing than those who don't dream about lap times might imagine. If he played it (it's not easy to imagine him sat in front of a games console), Bernie Ecclestone would surely approve.

It's the most exhilarating racing experience I've had since Dirt 3, and if you had to ask me which one I liked better, it would be like having to choose one of my children to sacrifice.

Maybe a bit rushed but an extremely important score for this newcomer. If we have a look at licensed motorsports we see that Codemasters are really ahead of its competitors, without a doubt; the only thing remaining is to obtain WRC licence for DiRT series and then move on some trucks, maybe? With Codemasters' sturdy engine and team of people, which are not afraid to get dirty from underneath of the engine hood, it would be a loss to not expand. So do it – we want more.

Fans of Formula One can finally rejoice that their favorite sport is being faithfully represented in the video game realm, and fans of racing games get another great series from a great developer. It's a perfect 1-2 finish.

F1 2011 is not a necessary purchase for the more casual racing game fan. Only the purists will opt to upgrade, in order to play it online, access the latest gameplay enhancement, and dive into the F1 racing world with updated cars and racers. A large update, indeed, rather than a completely new title. But the enhanced AI, better online play, and refined simulation still make for a very welcome addition ; let's hope next year's edition will also feature visual improvements.
  39. Sep 22, 2011

By nature, F1 2011 is a focused racer that demands driving with patience and perseverance. That being said, there's a lot of flexibility built in to let players approach it however they choose, and this season's changes translate well to changes in gameplay that fans will want to explore.

F1 2011 improves the results of past year edition and delivers a solid career and a perfect driving system. Unfortunately, some issues regarding the graphics engine and AI lower the score.

F1 2011 offers a fun driving experience and a welcome change to the traditional career schedule, but in the franchise's second year running, it's in need of a pit stop and some fresh tires.
  43. Sep 19, 2011
    80
It's refinement rather than revolution for F1 2011, then. But Codemasters have made a plethora of improvements under the bonnet, polishing an engine that should prove a fantastic basis for the planned yearly iterations of their F1 franchise.
  44. Sep 18, 2011
    87
F1 2011 is a good step forward in the series with better driving model and simulation, great graphics and some nice ideas on the gameplay side. The experience is only partially ruined by the high loading times and some unexplainable pauses when entering and leaving the pit stops. It remains however a must-have for every F1 fan.
  45. Sep 17, 2011

F1 2011 is a big step forward from the prequel. Codemasters has listened the feedback and worked so much on the multiplayer and all the small details. Good work too on the technical aspects of the game but we'd like to have 60 FPS.

The strides forward over last year's game really do place Codies' F1 series amongst the most dynamic sports series in video games today, ensuring that if you played and enjoyed last year's game then you'd be mad not to get in on the ground floor of this year's improvements.
  47. Sep 16, 2011

A worthy successor that is sure to please many and is easily the best option for any Formula One fanatics out there. It's not without its problems, but it has moved the series forward with a vastly improved handling model and a more engrossing race environment that will almost certainly have you believing you really are Lewis Hamilton for a split-second.

Every major issue in F1 2010 has been addressed, making an already great game even better. We'd still like to 'live the life' a bit more off the track, but in terms of racing, it's just an absolute blast, whichever skill level you approach it from.
  49. Sep 16, 2011

It's the little things that the core F1 audience will appreciate: the oscillating body work, revamped pit stops, improved tyre degradation, a dynamic cloud system. While casual players might question whether much is different a year down the road after 2010, those in the know - those whose second home is behind a steering wheel - will agree that F1 2011 is the most complete representation of the sport to date.
  50. Sep 16, 2011
    80
Strip away the new lick of paint and it's tough to tell F1 2011 apart from its predecessor, and though it's certainly tighter, smarter and more technically accomplished, some of the old faults remain. A marginally better outing than last year, then, and that's enough to ensure that, as F1 games go, this is still quite comfortably the best.
  51. Sep 16, 2011
    85
Play it properly, however, and F1 2011 is an incredibly satisfying experience. Difficult and draining, but ultimately extremely rewarding. Few, if any, other racing games can truly match its intensity.

Although it doesn't shine for innovation, F1 2011 proves to be a well-crafted and solid racing simulation, and one that will surely keep any fan of the genre very busy for a long time.

This new edition takes important steps forward. The tires are more important and the different types are more noticiable when driving, and the addition of DRS and more strategy options changes the way to race. It has also added much needed features like the safety car or the possibility to manage the whole Grand Prix event, from the free training durint Friday to the race on Sunday. It still has plenty of room for improvement and it is not the perfect simulator yet, but Formula 1 fans will be pleased again by this product.

Codemasters seems to have learned from its mistakes and have delivered a masterpiece for the circuit lovers.
  56. 90
While it's never going to be as surprising or novel as Codies' first stab at Formula One, for a seasonal update there's a remarkable number of tweaks and changes, all of which are for the better. What's more, the game has become one of the most substantial and compelling multiplayer racing offerings around and, with the addition of co-op at whatever diffi culty you choose, is more inclusive for all skill levels than the majority of online racers.
  57. Sep 16, 2011

F1 2011 is exactly the kind of racing game the previous one should have been. No one that enjoys F1 should ever miss out on this one.

If you're a fan of Formula 1 and/or F1 2010 then this is a must buy, the new features and improvements making it more than worth your time, money and effort. Anyone not so ingrained in the sport will struggle to see the upside of spending another £40, however. No matter what though, this is a better game than last year and (once again) the bar of expectation has been raised going into F1 2012.

This game is so similar to the last one it might as well be the last one. but that is not a bad thing. Last year they did everything right and this year they have just gone and make this one even better by updating the graphics, making everything better, the cars the drivers even the main menu, they all look amazing. The safety car is amazing, the KRS and DRS are so good the crashes the damage the pit stops, everything is just so good, the AI is so much more human, they make mistakes, everything is just so perfect. I don't this Codemaster could have made a better game. Full Review »

This game is boring and repetitive with minor little changes over f1 2010, multiplayer barely works and the game has many glitches this is a simple case of a game company releasing a game, then a year later releasing the same game a year later with not many improvements, This game is awful, jot worth the money, and I'm a massive racing fan I love Dirt 3, WRC 2011, TDU2, Forza 4, and the list goes on, but f1 2011 doesnt deserve a place on that list, not at all. Don't go near it!
    I bought F1 2011 new through the official F1 website (pre-ordered actually)
My "VIP" code would not work - rendering the
    game useless to play online.
"Customer service" sent back automatic answers - clearly unwilling to help & not giving a rats about their customers
WASTE OF MONEY - DON'T BUY!!!
