  1. The flaws hold the game back from being as entertaining as it could have been, yet its over-the-top take on a classic formula is worth more than a few laughs to fans.

Happy Tree Friends is a decent game that will please fans, but will end up boring most gamers. The difficultly never really ramps up from level 1 to level 30 and the levels are so short, you'll be done before dinner's ready.
  3. The initial reaction when Happy Tree Friends was fired up was "rubbish", "stupid" and "why are you playing this?" It looks bland, boring and slow...Yet for the person playing it, it's endearing, addictive and surprisingly fun.

Perfect fodder for a FREE online flash game. [Oct 2008, p.102]
  5. The Happy Tree Friends has quite a faithful fan base, but most people will be left disappointed with the level of difficulty and the shortness of the game.

It's basically four buttons, used in the same way each time. Fun. [Issue#36, p.115]

Make no mistake, Happy Tree Friends is pretty much a rip off of Lemmings, though in this case its a good rip. What really sucks is that youMake no mistake, Happy Tree Friends is pretty much a rip off of Lemmings, though in this case its a good rip. What really sucks is that you can litterally beat the game in about 2 hours
(hence my score of 6) and thats counting getting all gold awards. Like Lemmings the Happy Tree Friends will walk through the level with no consequence or any reason knowing that their heading to there deaths unless you help them. You have your freeze button (to freeze them in place), your fire button (to make them move faster), your nitro button (to blow up obstacles and clear paths), and your action button (pull levers, switches, etc). I'm glad to say that the graphics are nice and simple (it is based on a flash cartoon afterall), sound effects are spot on, music is ok nothing really special, and controls are easy to get a grasp on. My 2 biggest grips are once again the length, seriously no more than 2 hours and your done, and at times the A.I. will be spotty. There are times when i would lite a fire so that the HTF would move faster but sometimes one of them will run backwards instead of forwards, and also sometimes one of them will get stuck on a corner and not come out of it. But all in all i did have a good time with it, just know that you'll be done with it in no time flat.
