It won't win any beauty pageants or appraisal for artistic ingenuity, and it probably won't be marveled at for its in-depth story and character development; but if you crave that old fashioned, non-stop mayhem of an old school first-person shooter, no one does it better and with more attitude then Serious Sam.

While Serious Sam 3 doesn't quite evolve as highly as other quality first-person shooters on the market, it's one of the best – and most affordable – ones when it comes to the Xbox Live Marketplace downloadable front.

As a stand-alone offering, the XBLA version of Serious Sam 3 is undeniably flawed but also undeniably enjoyable.

It's a limited, simplistic experience, but still an enjoyable one for old-school shooter fans. [Jan 2013, p.83]

Best played with friends, but if you do, you'll get a delightfully simple and chaotic experience from the old school, where tactics are shunned and constantly squeezed triggers are rewarded.

It's a nice game if you just like to shoot stuff and don't care about perks and story-lines. I can offer a challenge, but lacks variation on the other hand. In the end the price seems a little steep for what you get.

If you're in the mood for some brain dead action and have a good friend to share it with - Serious Sam 3: BFE can be fun. As a single player experience it gets very monotonous after a while.

When you add it all up you get a package that feels poorly constructed. The port feels sloppy, the separation of online and campaign is mind-boggling and the repetition mixed with attempts to be more serious falls flat.

Fans of the action found in previous Serious Sam games will find this one fun for a limited time. New players will get frustrated fast and give up after a few deaths. Other than a graphic update, and a few new weapons, there really isn't much new here. It's not an overall bad experience like Duke Nukem Forever turned out to be, it's good, just not mindblowing. The price for the entire package, including the DLC, is also a huge hurdle. I recommend trying out the demo before taking the plunge.

In his best moments Sam is still Sam, with action as shallow as powerful. But most of the time he feels like a shadow of his former self.
  11. All things considered, Sam's been seriously shafted. [Christmas 2012, p.99]

Surprisingly a very good, even excellent port. I am praising Serious Sam 3: BFE for Xbox 360 because I played it since its release on the PC as well as 360. Let me tell you, the game is relatively demanding on the PC if you want it to look good, to be able to see the entire post apocalyptic landscape, and not have horrible slow down in frame rate. But on PC it is possible of course given good video card.
I never expected this game to be fine tuned in such good way that preserves most of the eye candy you'd see in a PC version and have it run at average 40 frames per second on Xbox 360.

Unlike the PC counterpart, the game comes with much better support for the Xbox 360 gamepad. Why it stands out is the options given to the user when adjusting the controller. They are mostly standard 5 schemes to choose from, but also sensitivity and acceleration as separate switches. In fact you are able to turn off camera view acceleration entirely which may be a good option for some gameplay styles.

You can also turn on the framerate counter. Whether you are surrounded by enemies or running through desolated streets it constantly displays from 38 to 44 frames in the screens corner.

The plot is pretty much non existent but the eye candy is very similar to the middle eastern cities you'd see in Battlefield 3 single player campaign. The difference is this runs much smoother. Interestingly enough this game also runs faster than Serious Sam First Encounter HD or Second Encounter HD (xbox version) Those are locked at about 30 frames per second and do not always deliver that.

Another good aspect of Serious Sam 3 BFE design is that as you progress you get to play in quite diverse environments. You go through crumbling streets, through an abandoned well lit building, through catacombs, outside areas with lots of vegetation and more.

Don't think this is serious, because it's not. It's a crazy shooter where you literally just run around shooting in every direction. Want a break from realism games such as MW3? This is it, it's an old school arcade shooter. The sound is great, from kamikazes to gun shots this game is covered in sound. Graphically it is actually a rather big leap from TFE and TSE but it's works really well. Well worth 1200 MS points.

Stupid mindless fun is the only way to describe the Serious Sam franchise, yet again Sam is back 2 kick ass in this modern re-incarnation of serious Sam that doesn't really change 2 much, besides feeling slightly easier then the last 2, also the graphics look like **** i don't care how amazingly good they look on the pc but on the console they look rubbish and laughable at times.

Overall serious sam is for the super of serious gamers that can truly handle the super seriousness of the sam of seriousnessis''': 8/10
