Sonic Generations takes the player on a voyage through 20 years of Sonic history. Pairing 2D-Levels with 3D-Stages Generations offers the best of both worlds and provides fans of the franchise with tons of unlockable art, music and gimmicks. Hands down one of the best Sonic games in the last 10 years.
The game is basically celebrating sonic 20th anniversary and the game is really good the platforming is good sonic speed is good the music is good the levels idea is really good and the story is great (probably its my favourite sonic game)
While Sonic Generations is far and away the best Sonic game in a long time, there are still enough niggles to put off new players who will not have the same love for the hedgehog and his blend of twitch reflexes and level memorisation. As a standalone title Sonic Generations is a fun, if short-lived, platformer that is great while it lasts, but will probably not captivate you in the same way its forebears did.
A combination of the best of Sonic, Sonic Generations reinvents, while staying true to the myth, and serves the fan well, whatever its generation is. It's an anthology of the musics, the pictures, the bosses, characters and levels we loved the most during those past 20 years of Sonic games, and one that, while not perfect (some gameplay imprecisions do subsist), remains a must-have for the Sonic lovers.
With Sonic Generations, SEGA delivers a decent game. The campaign is very short but well worth your time if you are a Sonic fan. With a little more tweaking, the series will be lifted to new heights.
Compared to Colors, Sonic Generations is a weaker, above average effort. Even taken as fan-service, the game's wavering quality, apparent lack of creativity and meandering filler feels like it's stalling until next year's birthday, and next year's game.
Sonic Generations is a bit overrated and has a better reputation than it should be.
It offers you a cool combination of stages from every former Sonic game at the time and I fully appreciate this. Crisis City, Speed Highway and Planet Wisp are visually my favourites. The interactions between the modern and classic versions of the characters is entertaining to watch.
The gameplay works well and it is the best game to get into the Sonic franchise.
However, this game has more issues than you will think when you read reviews from Sonic fans. The first and obvious one is, that this game is really short, when you only focus on the main objective. This will be for sure a negative point for many players, but actually it was not for me. Would this game be longer I wouldn't finished it a second time.
The optionial challenges aren't fun to play and you have to beat one for every stage to move forward. Sadly, as creative as they are, I don't like any of them, which means that the optional half of the game is skipable for me.
Than there is the feature of the game itself, you play every Stage as modern and as classic Sonic and you have to finish both to complete it and move forward. As much as I like the design of classic Sonic, I clearly prefer the modern Sonic gameplay, because of the 3D-Boost mechanic.
Unfortunately this is where my other issue with this game lies. In the 3D-Sonic stages are 2D-sections as well and they are not short. In fact they become more and more extensive in the later stages of the game
So you don't have a game, which is half 2D and the other half 3D, it is more two third of the game are 2D. The problem is the 2D-Sections in the 3D-Stages brakes the boost gameplay completely.
Finally the bosses are mixed in quality. Perfect Chaos and Egg Dragoon are easy the best bosses in the game and exciting to beat.
All the others are too easy or their mechanic does not work perfectly.
The final boss is the worst of the bunch. You will not get an idea what you have to do at first and when you get it, it is so boring to play.
Great sonic overall, i did hate the history and a lot of characters that didn't need to be there, the classic Sega Genesis sonic is also played on 4:3 for no apparent reason, the final boss is just boring, but all the rest of the game is incredible, just a great sonic with both of the styles built on the franchise in well done stages.
Bro this game is overrated af, most the things that u have to double tap for are really really hard to use and sometimes dont even work, boost system **** because they expect you to use a boost a certain way and sonic is hard to control
When this game was first announced, I was so excited for a new (good looking) Sonic game, especially one that revisited the two best Sonic games ever, Adventure and Adventure 2. Yet when I played the free trial, I was massively disappointed by the clunky gameplay and ignored it. Years later I revisited it, and made it through the game, but was still disappointed. There is no story at all, the revisits of the previous levels are weird, and there's literally a minigame where you have to perform homing attacks on musical notes. What is that?
The controls are horrible, he doesn't always jump when he's supposed to, his light speed dash is ineffective, turning corners is hard, and what is with this obsession of making a 3D platformer into a 2D platformer? If I'm playing as modern Sonic, why do I still have to sidescroll?
Very disappointing game, and this is supposed to be one of the better Sonic games? Still hasn't been a good one since the Adventures.
