I agree that if not for nostalgia, this game doesn't have many redeeming qualities. At 31, I have very fond memories of this game as a coin-op. That being said, I was frustrated that the xbox controls didn't translate well to the classic 8-direction joystick and spinner wheel. However, the 'absolute aim' setting helps to get close to the original feel. Kids of myI agree that if not for nostalgia, this game doesn't have many redeeming qualities. Now we can. Expand

I'm having a lot of fun playing this game, but it may be just the retro vibe that's responsible. The controls are fairly wonky, Tron for XBLA really misses the spinner from the arcade machine. Overall, they did with it about all they could do with the limitations of the controller. They did incorporate online modes (vs. and co-op) but the net code is lacking. If you like(d) Tron, and don't mind mastering the dual analog sticks, you'll enjoy this game, but I imagine the younger crowd may go 'wtf'. Collapse

  1. While you'll miss the novelty of a glowing blue joystick and an analog spinner, setting the controls to "Absolute Aim" (preset C or D) gives you enough precision to do battle on the Game Grid. [July 2007, p.79]
  2. Like a train wreck - can't help but look. [Aug 2007, p.103]
  3. The sole purpose of a coin-op ROM is to steal quarters away from the user. With that said, some of Tron’s achievements can be very difficult since such goals were originally designed as quarter munchers.
