Like it or not, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is the penultimate version of the game available. The gameplay has been refined, the roster is bigger and even more diverse than before, and everything else has been tightened and streamlined for online play. If you are a fan of the series, this is the version that you must own.

Capcom might be pushing their luck by releasing a Ultimate edition of a game that was already released early in the same year. However, it is this confidence that helps ease us into this timely update.

This is an incremental update with a lot of fresh paint.

That's the story of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3: This is actually the game that the original should've been. If you've not played MVC3 or traded it in and want another fix, this is absolutely the best route to go. If you bought the original, how much do you love MVC? If you want more, go get it – the newcomers are great fun.

With this extended cast of highly viable characters, the only thing holding you back from picking a group of characters you enjoy is your imagination. While this hastily released upgrade definitely has some room for improvement, there is absolutely enough new content to warrant the purchase.

If you skipped MvC3 back in February (perhaps because you weren't in a rush and knew this version would come), then for $40, you're getting a very solid fighter with a huge cast and lots of attention to detail.

Although it's a good fighting game the learning curve is steep and there are not enough news in Ultimate to make it worth your money.

This game is for two audiences- those who for whatever reason didn't pick up MvC3 and the hardcore fighters who are buying this in addition to MvC3. I find myself in the latter category- I had both MvC3 and UMvC3 on preorder. This game does add a good roster to the MvC3 group. They are advertising that the game is more balanced, and it definitely feels that way. Overall, this game is very fun. If you don't own MvC4, this is a steal at $40. If you do, then I'd probably only recommend this game if you are really a hardcore player- there is a lot of new stuff, but it may not be worth $40 more dollars for someone who already has MvC3. This is by far better than what was originally released. It is a great way to get friends playing fighting games if they are like 100% FPS fanboys, because this game is forgiving if you have a fault. The 40$ price tag is a good deal. People will cry and say the first one came out 9 months ago i paid 60. Ok well you buy the same COD game every year 60 a pop whats the difference? UMvC3 is a blast to play, the online is now way more solid connection wise + spectator mode is great. Though the online has the frustration factor if you are playing people that are just dedicated to the game and clean you out in 15 seconds. Expand

Good: Graphics, new mode "Heroes vs Heralds", mini card game, everything else MVC3 was and outstanding attention to detail on what the characters say in victory screens, special moves and even to each other. (The last part assumes the player knows the backstories as well) Also, there HAS to be something said for playing s Galactus!

Bad: If you had MVC3, you'r buying almost the same game again. The AI can get really "Cheap". The money grab for DLC costumes (when they are already in the game they just want your $20 to unlock them). Some of these characters can be retired and have new ones bought in. I'm looking at you Morrigan.

Summary: If you like the "versus" games (and a extra $40 in case you have MVC3) you can't go wrong here. The game does need some tweaks and re working, but it's a graphically fun button masher with just enough skill needed to play and enjoy for months.

Isn't this why we have DLC? Seriously I paid $60 on day one for MVC3 and now a year later I am expected to drop another $40 for some minor tweaks to the game mode and 12 new fighters. Why couldn't I just download an update for $15-$20 to my HD? I can't knock the game too much it is great game game, a bit of a button masher's paradise not a technical fighter at all, but great visuals and cool characters, alot of fast action fun if you have friends to play with locally, never did like playing fighting games online always more fun to trash talk in person :) But I give it 5 out of 10 because this is the game that should have come out last year. Capcom should stop making video games, this is awful. It looks and feels like it belongs in a 1990s arcade and just wants to eat all of your quarters with BS attacks by the computer. $60 for this is a joke, wait for it to hit the $9.99 bin at Walmart if you must have it. Expand
