It's not particularly flashy, but purer than driven snow. Get it for the ace multiplayer. [Sept 2012, p.101]

This is a crowning achievement in fighting games, accurately simulating the dedication it takes to truly know what you and your opponent are capable of, and what they'll do next given their style and instincts. This is, without a doubt, Virtua Fighter's finest iteration yet.

Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown is the best 3D fighting game out there. Deep, fast and visually impressive, this game is a must buy for every virtual fighter who is looking for a great fighting experience. The cheap price is the icing on the cake.

Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown has thrown down its challenge by providing an Xbox Live Arcade game that delivers more content than some retail fighting games.

Virtua Fighter may no longer be at the cutting edge, but Final Showdown proves that it still runs deeper than any of its peers.

It's this purity, balance and tactical depth that make Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown the best in its class.

Virtual Fighter 5 Final Showdown shines in its utilitarian simplicity, delivering a premium experience that's focused on the fighting at an economical price. If you've ever wanted to see what the hubbub was all about in the arcades of Akihabara, consider this your ticket to find out.

With the market now full of unbelievably fantastic fighting games, and it being a revision of a five-year-old title, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown still manages to stand head and shoulders above most of its competition. It may not have the install base of other fighters, but it's still one of the deepest fighting game experiences to date.

The fighting game fan's fighter. There are no frills or a fancy art style to mask lesser gameplay. It's a brawler, pure and simple. However, the more you put into it, the more you practice, the more it gives back, giving it an immensely rewarding quality that can only be found in truly great competitive online games.

If what you want most from a fighting game is a deep, technical, and incredibly rewarding competitive experience, you can't go wrong with Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown.

Its intuitive hands-on combat is still as dialed in as it ever could be, and the presentation, while hardly perfect, should keep fans enthralled for hours on end.

Other franchises do an admirable job of capturing the spirit of fighting, the spirited back-and-forths of a good brawl. But with Virtua Fighter, you get the very essence of fighting, the true artistry in martial arts. And it's a total knock out.

At the price point of a mere 1200 points, I can hardly bicker about the lack of truly new features or the absence of a new high-end-engine, but praise SEGA, that they haven´t put this update on the shelves for the full price.

A solid and renewed gameplay and the low price make Virtua Fighter 5 a title highly recommended to all fans of very technical beat 'em up.

It's balanced, fast, and all around fun, all packaged within a three button fighting system that is incredibly simple to learn.

Virtua fighter 5 final Showdown has stripped away things like back story to bring to the arcade a lean mean fighting machine, and to bombard the player in choices for DLC customizations of your favorite characters.

SEGA has dished up a new version of his classic 3D fighting game which deserves solid gameplay but lacks the pace, polish and possibilities found in the actual brawlers.

In the end, those who expect all the bells and whistles that have come to grace more recent fighting games, you may pass this up and feel no remorse. Same goes for those who already own a previous installment of VF 5 and feel content. Albeit, for die hard fans, those looking for yet another fighting game to add to their library and those who have strayed from the franchise but are still curious, this can be a good investment.

For the price, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown is a solid purchase, even if it's not exceptional. It's a bare-bones fighter that has the most basic of extra modes and features, but the main game is good, and the price point is hard to beat. The game is easy to pick up but difficult to master, giving you a great value for only $15. In the end, it's another release of Virtua Fighter 5. If you enjoy the series, you'll love getting a cheap and improved version. The comprehensive tutorial also makes this a great starting point for series newcomers. If you've never liked the series, though, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown won't change your mind.

For 1200 MS points, this is a steal, and there is much worse that you could spend more money on. Virtua Fighter appears to be entering in to its twilight years now, and it remains to be seen if it can keep up with the ongoing battle with the rejuvenated Street Fighter and Marvel fighting games, but there is still some fight left in the old dog yet.
  24. 70
1200 Microsoft Points gets you a fighting game that is decidedly different, but has a depth and a fighting system that's on par with the best. The rest of the package is rather lacking though, and so we'll only recommend this game to those who know exactly what they're in for.

Virtua Fighter 5 is a very good game, and Final Showdown makes it better in many ways…but it could have been even better than that with just a few reasonable changes.
  26. 70
If you've never played Virtua Fighter, this is the best entry yet, and if you're a fan, well, spend the $15. Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown is still everything it was in 2007 - fluid, complex, and fun. It's just not much more.

Sega's budget price and DLC structure make Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown an extremely attractive offer, especially if you didn't play the original. Hopefully, the netcode improves, though, as playing worldwide opponents right now is an outright chore.

Dedicated fans of the genre who maybe have gotten tired of the madness of Marvel vs. Capcom or other more crazy modern fighting games might appreciate this slightly enhanced and tweaked technical fighter. Most others, I'm afraid-myself included-probably won't find much to invest here.

"Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown" it's a great fighting game for the fans of Virtua Fighter 5: it has very nice and realistic graphics, with fluid animations without any slowdowns, and a solid gameplay added to the classic Virtua Fighter 5 that we know. For a XBLA game, and for 1200MS it's a nice offer - if you like classic fighting games, this is the one. I particularly doesn't like Street Fighter or KOF series, always liked more Tekken and Virtua Fighter, and this title doesn't let me down on my expectations. Add to that a Online mode, and you will have fun value, for many hours. Full Review »

This is the best fighting game ! Online game is great ! Price is awesome ! The gameplay want to be "realistic" so don't look after fireball or dummy things ; here it's Skill Only and mind game. People who don't understand the gameplay simply don't have/use their brain :]

    Thx SEGA !
