  1. Xbox Nation Magazine
Gross-out style low brow comedy is all it can bank on when you take all of this game's design flaws into consideration. [Winter 2002, p.107]
  2. It is fresh, new, and puts an unusual twist on the ordinary.

Muto has sly humor, difficult challenges, and some fantastic gameplay elements and comes out as the second best platformer on Xbox.
  4. Game Informer
Thankfully, the game's shape-shifting shtick lifts it above the average, by allowing the good doctor to transform himself into a spider, gorilla, and several other types of creatures. [Nov 2002, p.140]
  5. An innovative game that brings fresh air to genre.
  6. Official Xbox Magazine
Dr. Muto's creativity, long length, and variety make it a good effort. [Jan 2003, p.78]
  7. An excellent sense of humour that manages to make the older gamer chuckle without offending the kiddies.
  8. If it were not for the horrible camera, Dr. Muto would be one of my favorite games of the year.
  9. Even the best part of the game--being able to turn into different creatures--is ruined by poor design or execution.
  10. Cheat Code Central
A breath of pure oxygen to the platform genre... Despite it's inane premise and outward appearance, is really aimed at intelligent gamers with a sense of humor.
  11. 70
A pleasant surprise. The characters are amusing and a little different, the game is smoothly produced, and while it's somewhat derivative, it's still a lot of fun.
  12. It seems as if those at Midway decided that the “hook” they would use in the game would be the good Doctor’s ability to change into various inane things, such as a spider or squirrel. The whole game in fact is based around this concept, and it is easily one of the most contrived, useless gimmicks I have seen in a game to date.
  13. By not providing more details on where to find the items needed to progress fully, however, it just becomes an exercise in frustration and drags down what could have been an above-average title.

Most of my problems was the camera. it was controllable but never where i wanted. many of my deaths was caused by me not being able to see platforms. that is my basic complaint. i rage quit a few times and it looked a bit muddy but i was 10 and the style of the world makes the muddy environments excusable. i enjoyed the humor and the entire things being so campy. could be a 7 if the camera was fixed.
