  1. Despite being a rough composite of a half dozen other first-person shooters without much personality of its own, Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter is still pretty good.
  2. While the AI isn’t horrible (at times it can be very challenging) you will find it funny to have a horde of enemies coming at you, all too timid to shoot... Mace has not only stood up to my expectations, but crushed them and left me very happy.
  3. And, if nothing else, danger truly defines the lot of a Bounty Hunter; it truly feels as if the environment is somehow calculating your defeat (or insurgence).
  4. Contains many of the trappings found in bad science-fiction media -- poor dialogue, poorer voice acting, cool-looking firearms, and a story that seems cobbled together simply for an excuse to blow things up and spill some blood.
  5. The storyline isn't all that interesting, particularly considering the complete lack of relevant plot for the first half of the game. All in all, the good outweighs the bad, but not by much.

Fun at times (especially in the first few hours before the minor annoyances begin stacking up) and does a nice job of mixing up run and gun and sniper action, but the AI is buggy and sometimes the game absolutely drags.

A perfectly competent single-player shooter with neat space-sim elements (and Henry Rollins!), but if you absolutely need multiplayer replayability, look elsewhere. [Aug 2003, p.77]
  8. The space-flying gimmick surely doesn’t warrant a purchase on its own. This should’ve been a very decent shoot-‘em-up. What happened?

Isn't the greatest game ever made, but it certainly isn't the worst. I personally had a very good time with it, and recommend it to anyone looking for a good, solid singleplayer FPS fix.

The terrible A.I. is a big culprit behind the sense of lackluster repetition.

It is as rough around the edges as its main character and most players will probably be put off after an initial bout of controller frustration. Those who stay with it will find an enjoyable and somewhat satisfying single-player experience, but nothing incredibly memorable.
  12. Electronic Gaming Monthly

It's tough to overlook its frequent pauses for loading, brain-dead enemies, unrealistic animations, and repetitive graphics. [Aug 2003, p.122]
  13. Xbox Nation Magazine

Movement from left to right is way too slow, which screws up everything. It takes three full seconds to turn 180 degrees, so death is guaranteed in cramped quarters. [Aug 2003, p.85]
  14. More attention needs to be placed on the space aspect of the game, and players should have the same sense of freedom as in titles like Halo instead of wandering through narrow halls.
  15. The flow is maddeningly repetitive. It's also way, way too linear. You cannot fly around and explore at your own free will. Instead, you just land on a big base, kill stuff, shoot ships, then move on to the next level.
  16. GameNow

If it wasn't for the inexcusably idiodic enemy intelligence and questionable controls, this might have been a great game. [Aug 2003, p.30]

I actually quite like this game. It's got decent graphics, an okay storyline, and pretty awesome gameplay.
This game is kinda like Halo, but
I actually quite like this game. It's got decent graphics, an okay storyline, and pretty awesome gameplay.
This game is kinda like Halo, but it takes place in space. It's a first person shooter and space combat game from the creators of Star Trek Invasion & Battlestar Galactica (Warthog Games).
If you enjoyed Battlestar Galactica the Game or Star Trek Invasion, then I suggest you try this game out in the future.
The only two problems I had with this game is that it gets ridiculously hard later on and the soundtrack is pretty mediocre.

Being able to leave the controls of your ship while at hyper-drive, go back to the john, and look out the window at the debris flying by is Being able to leave the controls of your ship while at hyper-drive, go back to the john, and look out the window at the debris flying by is reason enough to buy it. That and the minigun... and the space cowboy pistola.... lets just say the ppl who made the weapons knew what they were doing. Halo is better though, by far. Full Review »
