  1. To say that the Lead Blocking Control completely revolutionizes Madden is the understatement of the year.
  2. So, the big question will be, then – is it worth picking up this year's version if you already have 2006? The answer is a definite yes – the new lead blocking controls and the refined superstar mode add a lot to the Madden experience and, as a minor plus, the game seems to run more smoothly.
  3. It sounds like work, but putting blitzing linebackers on their rumps as your halfback flashes by is beyond satisfying.

It shows depth, talent, and imagination. Everything any winning team needs.
  5. With all due respect to all the stat crunchers out there, this is once again the true "fantasy" football.
  6. Despite just slightly tweaking last year's game, Madden NFL 07 proves to have enough Pro-Bowl caliber features to prove its dominance as the best football and one of the best sports video games around.
  7. The Lead Blocking adds an all new dimension to the game, the Superstar mode lets you live the life of a NFL player, and the countless number of options and features add up to hours upon hours of enjoyment.
  8. The big word this year is 'depth', and with 217 new and classic teams (yes, we counted), tons of new gameplay features and both an in-depth Franchise Mode and an all-new Superstar Mode, there's plenty here to keep fans happy until 08 inevitably rears its helmet-wearing head. [Oct 2006, p.74]
  9. The core gameplay elements of this SKU are down-pat, which makes the extra features such as Superstar mode that much more enjoyable. I can overlook the lack of online leagues or dazzling graphics for a stout basic foundation, which this title certainly has.
  10. Despite the less impressive game modes added to Madden 07, Lead Blocker and the Highlight Stick greatly improves on the ground game. I was more inclined to attempt a 5-yard run than a 20-yard pass!
  11. A few more additions would have made this a spectacular title, but as it stands, Madden 07 is still a great game.
  12. The new kicking meter makes it way onto current generation, providing a ton of more control and consistency with the kicking game.

While the remake of the Superstar makes the game extremely unique (in fact, it's probably the biggest change made to Madden in years), there's a significant issue with the influence system, which really governs the whole mode: You can perform your assignments perfectly, but if one of your teammates screws up, you get penalized for it, which doesn't make sense.
  14. Despite the overall fun I had with Superstar mode, it's unfortunate other aspects of the game haven't been fixed. [Oct. 2006, p.92]
  15. Even though Madden NFL 07 doesn't have any big, game-changing features to make it an especially memorable iteration of the series, its roster of small, but useful changes are ultimately more compelling than anything Madden 06 had on offer last year.
  16. Madden '07 does make an effort at improvements at the running game but everything else seems to be a bit stale. From the graphics to the defense to the lack of Madden himself, it seems like EA is almost playing out the string.
  17. EA's challenge is not to simplify their simulation or stop adding detail, but to integrate those features so well that players can simply marvel at how advanced the game has become. The Superstar revisions are a step in the right direction, since they allow players to focus on the entire game one player at a time, but otherwise that's just not the case.

It's not a huge upgrade over last year's game, with nearly identical franchise modes, and most of the changes being made to one specific aspect of the offense (the running game) and the gimmicky Superstar mode.
  19. Its revamped Superstar: Hall of Fame mode is phenomenal and the enhancements to the running game make busting through holes in the defensive line simply a joy. But unlike last year's fiasco with next-gen Madden on the Xbox 360, this year Madden 07 on 360 is clearly the superior version to own.
  20. The EA team made their off-season adjustments and released a solid product. Maybe not groundbreaking or innovative, but certainly a step forward.

While Madden 07 does have a couple of great changes to its basic gameplay, it's beginning to feel like the same old game. It's a strong fundamental football game and lead blocker is a cool new feature, but it's not reinventing the wheel, like the passing cone was last year.
  22. The game, though, hasn't changed much since "06." It's little more than a roster update, ultimately. [Oct 2006, p.84]
  23. Simply put, it's everything you expect--another year of football with another year of Madden.
  24. While the series is definitely far from its prime, it manages to prove once again that EA and Madden know a good game of football, just not a very new one.
  25. A solid, predictable, and competent game. It's not a revolutionary step by any means, but the gameplay tweaks are for the most part meaningful additions.
  26. It may still be the best gridiron option by default, but Madden 07 is a disappointing step backward on the Xbox. [Oct. 2006, p.77]
  27. 65
If you played last years game, then it's almost impossible to justify purchasing Madden NFL 07.
